@@zxbryc interesting thing is the gameboy also has a single wave channel, but not many people utilized it to the fullest extent. Unless you were in Europe where some obscure German games actually utilized the channel fully
Holy crap man, those N163 instruments are amazing! Literally the best I've ever heard. Also, those Pulse drums are something rarely seen outside of the Game Boy scene!
I had a burst of intense joy as I saw this notification pop up. I dramatized playing this with a countdown and heightened volume. And I was *blown away.* This might be your best cover so far. Maybe I'm biased because this is my favorite track from one of my favorite soundtracks. But *you did it perfectly.* I love you, man. I love you. Thank you a million times.
ngl this doesn't sound like a 16 bit compo, this actually sounds like some 32 Bit compo made into a 8 bit chip, yet reminds me of N64 instruments the way they all sync together.
ANOTHER COVER TO HAVE SOUND CHANNELS THAT ARE AS MEATIER THAN A SIZZLING SPAM, A JOYFUL CHICKEN JOY AND A KRABBY PATTY. Melt some cheese fries but I like sweet potato fries covered with melted cheese on it!
The title reads like it has a story of its own. Gimmick remembers every time he died in the game, and the memories haunt him. By the extra stage, you can see ghost Gimmicks where they died earlier. (It's unused because they couldn't afford the save memory needed for such a cheap gimmick)
I think the track was originally going to be used for a boss rush in the final level. Of course, you already killed all of the bosses, so that name makes sense.
This is an amazing remix of this song. Still a head-scratcher why this wasn't used in the final game. Truly an underrated gem on the system. So as you may or may not know, the NES game, Journey to Silius was originally planned to be a Terminator game, tcrf.net/images/d/d4/Journey02.gif but lost the license halfway through development. I am currently in the process of hacking the original game to restore the Terminator License, changing graphics, text, palettes, (hopefully levels), and etc. I was wondering if you would be willing to to write the opening theme from Terminator 1 in the Sunsoft style for the hack. Similar to SiivaGunner's high quality "rip" of the Prologue theme th-cam.com/video/qOaHiKElhs8/w-d-xo.html from 0:00 from 1:17 and has that stinger ending part from 2:21 to 2:30 I will make sure to give credit to you. No pressure. Just a thought. Thanks! :D
Sounds interesting... Are you sure that a NSF could just be implemented into it? I’m aware that NES games tend to have different audio engines, that’s why I wonder.
It’s a possibility, I can definitely say I’m interested. It all depends on if I can make something that I think sounds okay. I have begun working on something already, but I can’t make a sure promise just yet.
Sir Candle It's similar to the FDS in the way it can create custom waveforms, but they are in variable length and you can have multiple of them in memory depending on length
this almost doesn't even sound like a retro music maker program should be able to do this

MrJimbo1qaz No reverb, just panning in NSFplay.

blara2401 *snap* yep, this one's going in my cringe compilation
S. Zilog Using a meme that bad and dead belongs in a cringe comp.
You people take a guy's enthusiastic comment way too seriously.
This sounds like it could be in Blaster Master Zero.
Funny you should say, because the soundchips used here were in fact used to compose all 3 of the soundtracks
I expected a bait and switch to Take on Me.
Btw, the cover is amazing! As others have said, you used the N163 instruments masterfully.

i legit expected take on me to stay playing
nice work
Just like the vrc6, the n163 had so much potential!
0:47 Man, that organ instrument is something else!
It feels like an 80's pop song! Well done!
This cover always gives me goosebumps. 🥰
0:36 TOP GEAR? IS THAT YOU?????
I'll never get over this! This is sounds very good! and I absolutely love the way you used the waves here!
You wow me every time!
Fantastic 8-Bit Midi-Synth Soundscape!! Imagine The Adventure In Famicom World.
I was just thinking, "hey, I wonder if VinylCheese has done any more Gimmick covers," and lo and behold this masterpiece
And hey! Even the Sunsoft bass and drums are present!
Chiptunes this good shouldn't even be legal!! You aced this one, completely!

You gotta have some balls to cover Gimmick, you pulled it off. Impressive.
Those little "ugh, ugh, ugh" at the beginning have a Streets of Rage vibe to them
Great job as always

God DAMN
Sounds like something from a Rocky film.
This sounds a HELL of lot like a turbografx16
Very gud
can i dl file?
Feel like someone should make an Etrian Odyssey-styled cover of this song. The song title sounds like it's straight from Etrian Odyssey, too, lmao.
damn son fucking sickh

How the heck did you get the sound to not clash?

Sunsoft is 2A03, right? Just with the classic bass and samples. NSF files can be implemented in, you just have to know where to put it in the hex.
Are you up to it?

Whats the inspiration behind this beautiful tune?
Thank you for your videos! May I please have the ftm file?

SNES version of Sunsoft's "Gimmick!"!
more like pc engine
No way, the SNES could never sound this sharp. It's more on the Mega Drive / PC Engine league.
More like GBA
wow
much better than the original
NSF/FTM?
How the heck do you get all 8 namco channels to work??
Can someone please explain to me how exactly the N163 chip works? Because I really don't get how it makes the sounds that it makes.
Sir Candle It's similar to the FDS in the way it can create custom waveforms, but they are in variable length and you can have multiple of them in memory depending on length
The best song in the game, and it isn't actually in the game.
QOTD: Yes
I gave you 2:16 minutes of watch time.
Kind of miss when you made more 8-bit sounding tunes instead of pushing Famitracker beyond it's limits into SNES/Genesis like sound
He literally made the title theme to Time Trax using only 2A03, I'm pretty sure he's still okay with doing 8 bit stuff.
What is the NI63 anyway?
