  • Can you just give a firearm to a family member in California legally? Not exactly. But you can avoid the FFL if you are in direct lineage with the person giving the gift.
Here’s how to transfer a firearm to a family member while following all CA laws and regulations. Refer to CA Department of Justice form BOF 4544A instructions for the complete rules and information.

The government has no business knowing anything about who owns firearms.

I certainly agree. I'm advising people of the law so the government doesn't screw them over. I'm not giving advice. People make their own decisions if they want to comply.

Isn't that entire point of having to register to own a firearm? So that the government can know who owns a firearm. What's the problem with that?

@@diegop_01112 it shouldn't be a thing, but it is.

@@TheRudolphFirm yeah I know it's a thing, but why shouldn't there be some knowledge of who owns firearms?

@@diegop_01112 The entire purpose of the second amendment is for citizens to be well armed such that they can overthrow their government if it becomes oppressive the way the British government was and had to be overthrown by the colonists. Allowing the government to know who has arms, what type of arms and how many arms makes it easier for an oppressive government to seize arms and put down any rebellion. So, no, the government should be completely in the dark about gun ownership of citizens.

Does the transferee have to be 21+ to be gifted a pistol from his mother? The ca doj only says adult child but I’ve read 18+ and a safety certificate

Every person in possession of illegal firearm to be able to obtain it should have to take a gun safety certification training. Please explain to me what is wrong with that please I want to understand I love target shooting I believe them the right to defend my family

There should be no government mandated training of any kind. It never stays the same. It always gets more burdensome and more expensive.

I know many people that agree with you. But if you get into trouble, that's where I come in, as a defense attorney.
