Is anyone else feeling like so unbelievably stressed about potty training? My child is 3 years old and two months and EVERBODY around me is like "Why isn't she potty trained?" I feel like a loser and a failure. We tried when she was like 2 years and 8 months and it was just an epic failure. Watching this I'm like about to breakdown in hysterics because she is showing all 5 signs of not being ready. But what am I supposed to do? She can't go to preschool without being potty trained (literally a requirement in my state) but she's "not ready" according to this? I feel like my child's development is going to be completely delayed if I can't get her potty trained.

By the time she is an adult it will completely even out. This is very temporary. Way back when people didn’t even have books much less social media to tell them when their child “should” be potty trained.
If you’re super concerned maybe you could call your pediatrician & see what they recommend, a Physical Therapist or Child Development Specialist?
Your kid is going to be okay with a mama who cares like you do ❤️

This is very good mam. Thank you. I felt sooooooo much pressure to potty train but my baby was NOT ready. This gives me hope.

This probably saved me a lot of headache. My son is 19 mos old and rushed out to buy a toilet training seat then sat him down on it only to discover that he was just crying sitting on it. Probably not ready. He doesn’t mind nor notice at all that he has a wet/dirty diaper. Thank goodness the seat was inexpensive. Will wait when he starts to show h to e signs. Thank you💓

I appreciate you saying the not ready signs. You don't hear that often. It's always signs of when they are ready. Which can be taken both ways but still helpful. This is coming from a mom deciding this after having a 13 and 17 yr old but has a 2 yr old trying to learn new techniques.

    Thank you for this.
My son is 3.5 years old and refuses to sit on the toilet; that is the only one of these signs he has. He lets me know when he needs to be changed. He is scared of using the toilet, even the little toddler sized one we got for him.
He will be 4 in a few months, and I'm getting a lot of pressure from family members because he should definitely be potty trained by now. Also I know he is expected to be potty trained for daycare (even the Montessori one I'm wanting to put him in). My husband and I encourage him to use the toilet often, but nothing has worked so far. We don't know what to do 😔 will check out your other video that you mentioned for some tips.

Preschool is not legally necessary, thank goodness. We're going to skip preschool.

I’m sure you already are, but I would try taking him into the bathroom whenever you go & explain every step of the process from the time you feel the need to washing your hands. Also maybe having a special ritual you only do on the potty (eg, special song, book, treat afterwards, or even blowing bubbles while he’s sitting to help him relax the sphincter.)
Lastly let him hear lots of stories of people who were afraid of things but then were really brave & did it when they were afraid.
The pressuring I feel like makes it worse because it adds shame to the mix.
I hope it all “works out!” 💩

Hello Dr. Jazmine. My princess will be 3 this November and we are in the process of potty training. She can tell us when she’s pooped. Today I placed her on her potty and she began crying. As soon as I put her pull-up on she urinated. How can we encourage her to use her potty with confidence or is she ready for potty training? Thanks in advance Dr. Jazmine❤

My questions is: how to do teach my daughter to realize that she needs to go pee before she already goes. She will be like " I need to pee" but she has gone already.

I’ve heard you let them run around in panties or even with nothing on from the waist down, and then also you learn what their pee cues are and point them out to them (eg, “I see you wiggling your body and shifting feet. You might need to go pee!”)
      I hope this helps

It is number 5 for us, our son is going through a lot of changes so we decided to take a break from potty training for couple of weeks, hopefully things will work out ok after the break

It only took me one day to realize that my almost 2.5 year old daughter is not ready. I thought maybe we could get her potty trained before her little brother gets here in four months but after hearing this, I’ve realized that she’s indeed not ready. She can’t push her pants down or pull them up and she’s not bothered by her soiled diaper. The only thing she does is follow us in the bathroom and try to flush. She’s also now interested in washing her hands.
Update: the quiz also let me know she’s a diaper princess for a little while longer. Guess we will have to continue introducing her to the idea in the meantime.

  • @sonicleaves

I just decided not to push it at all. She's 2 1/2 and when she's ready, she'll let me know. In the meantime, I'm just going to let it be. I really don't need unnecessary stress.

My son is already potty training. I am so glad that he is already doing it. I just need to let him wear his boxers instead of his diapers, but my son was really into it. I am very happy about this

I’m watching because I finally have time to really potty train my 3yr old. He’s showing all the signs . Trying to figure out what I can do, because I know it’s mainly me not being consistent.

3 y/o daughter is “potty trained” but not potty trained. She’ll go hours without a diaper and when she needs to pee or poop she lets us know she needs a diaper. She can go several minutes holding it if we’re driving and isn’t safe to pull over. She’s been doing this for about 6 months or so. When we ask her to do it in the potty she says no because she can’t relax and release her bladder. Verbatim lol she’s got a fancy vocab 😂😅 how can I help her release in the potty and say goodbye to diapers? She’s literally there as far as knowing about her body and listening to it. Just not comfortable in the potty.

Sounds like my son. Especially no. 2. His not comfortable releasing. I see your comment is older. What ended up happening

I’ve heard if you have them blow something like bubbles or a harmonica or a candle or blow their nose it might help them release!

Potty training has been my personal Mt Everest of parenting. I followed advice of waiting for him to “be ready” and it never happened. Nope. He didn’t really show ANY signs. He was almost 4 and was perfectly content with ‘status quo’ so to speak. I would test him just to see if it bothered him. He could wear a dirty diaper without a care in the world. I was like “if I don’t initiate this process then it’ll never happen.”
So my advice is do not assume your child will magically one day want to be out of diapers/pull ups.
What would be great is to have a milestone age where the parent should take action if the child still doesn’t show signs on their own.
    Example verbiage I never heard.
“Your child will start showing signs…BUT if they still haven’t shown much interest by age (insert age) then you might need to intervene by doing x,y and z.”
Something along those lines would have been helpful.

Chocolate. The only thing that convinced my 3.75 year old son to consistently poop in the toilet (and not diaper or underwear) was consistently getting chocolate when he did.

So… what do we do if we’ve already started and realised they are not actually ready? Just stop?

    • @TheMomPsychologist
      @TheMomPsychologist  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Great question! And yes - Stop, let your little one know you’re going to hold off until they’re ready, and re-start the process when the time is right. In the meantime, keep talking about going on the potty and keep reading books to continue the conversation while you wait.
