      I'm from Houston tx and my 2012 cts has a vacuum leak I really need a good mechanic like you to work on it.       ravenlorans what year Ford Probe was it? I had a 94 GT, never had to replace the alternator on it tho. That was a super fun car to drive.

    Scotty make a video about Nissan finally going to recall the altimas from 2013 to 2016 that have had transmission problems. Time to bash these junky manufacturers. It was said that these transmissions would go to 20mph while in the highway randomly causing a risk of crash.

      Yes. As I am getting older, I find my patience is wearing thinner. Or is the cars I have to work on now? An old 60s V8 water pump change was easy. When I did a water pump change in a Saturn, it was 2 bolts from the top, 2 bolts thru the wheel well, (remove the tire) and 2 bolts from under the car. My back wasn't happy snugging the bolts down on the gasket.

      Doesn't seem reasonable to me. The real problem is the designers and manufacturers that create these modern Frankensteins so that you get discouraged and bring your car to the dealer. Thermostats should not be this difficult to get to and this repair shouldn't cost anywhere near $400 - $500 dollars. They are cheap and in the past, very easy to change yourself. Also, the dealership mechanics work on these vehicles all the time and know the ins and outs and can do this very quickly.

    My old 84 Toyota Truck thermostat would be a 5 minute job....MAX or 10-15 minutes given adequate beers.

      Almost gone are the days the thermostat was right on top of the engine in the front and all you had to do was remove top hose and loosen a couple of bolts on the housing

      Thats another 12 pack easily.
      All thats left is to get some coke and snort it off her caboose.
      Then the next day or 2 later after recuperating you can change your thermostat in 5 minutes, probably.

      I'm pretty sure his wife is the one doing all the editing and stuff. Editing can take hours. So i'm almost certain he doesn't have that kind of time doing all that he does.

      I know so many videos how to repair mercedes for low prices. Someone succeeded how to fix airmatic suspension for w220 without changing them. If you buy a repair manual you will save a lot of money instead of going to the dealership or i mean stealership.

      my 2001 sierra still has original thermostat ,waterpump ,starter , alternator, radiator only compressor for air and fuel pump gave out 2 months ago .

    I miss my 1971 Ford F100 with a 302 Windsor. That thing was a breeze to work on compared to these newer engines and cramped compartments.

      At the dealership, a thermostat used to bring 1.25 in parts markups because they were easy to replace.
      Now it's probably at least 1 hr. flat rate plus the markup. If it were easy, right?

      @Joe Casson Well he should mention that the only true way to prove that would be to put the thermostat into a pan of hot water..
      If it is truly stuck, it will not open.
      The one he showd was at room temperature, naturally it would be closed.

    17 years for a thermostat is pretty darn good. On my old Mini my thermostat built into the plastic thermostat housing didn’t last 6 months.

      Get blue driver scan tool if your worried about high prices for scan tools there always updating their stuff for more codes & cars Scotty also has a video about that as well.

    Jiggler valve on a Toyota 3.4 goes 6 oclock position. Check manual some cars have even different times than 6 & 12 😁👍🏻

      I worked for a company where the design engineers had to rotate into a production engineer role when the design/product went into production. Serviceability & ease of manufacturing became a top priority.

      I always thought since the designers/engineers did not have to do the work replacing parts they did not care. Similar Popular Example: Chinese knockoffs products sent to U.S. "can't see it from my house and can't hear you when you get ripped off"

      It's a lexus they had to make it more difficult so the average Joe cant just fix or replace a part in 15 mins kinda like how some bmw motorcycles have oil filters hidden behind the case.

      Likely would have eventually set at least a pending code. It all depends on the last time codes were cleared and/or how long its been a problem. As long as the O2 sensors are working the way they should, and I'm willing to bet they are since its not coding, then he should have been able to watch fuel trims on his scan tool to get a good idea of what was missing very quickly.

    What a place for the thermostat! You make it look easy, Scotty...the thermostat housings are not hard to crack when a thermostat is mounted vertically or buried. Love watching you diagnose a vehicle problem!

      Yet, that Lexus was a simple job when compared to the stupid "engine out" jobs for routine maintenance in Porsches, Ferraris, etc.

      It seems like 70% of the bolts on metric cars are M6s (M6 bolts of 10mm heads).

      If I remember some people cut holes in the fender to get at the rear plugs. It was made for racing and practical wasn't a priority.

    Love these mechanics videos. Reminds me of my dad working on his 81 VW Rabbit diesel. That thing ran to well over 500K miles and it was my first car too. Dad sold it still running in 98 when I was away in the military. Thinking about it my dad was a genius mechanic cause that car had some mad electrical gremlins. Dad even had to bypass the ignition switch and put in his contraction of push button start switch even before push button was the norm.

    Been watching your videos for a while. Shopping for Lexus RX 350, do you recommend 2nd or 3rd generation for ease of repair. 2nd gen 2008-9 going for about $8K and 3rd gen 2010+ over $11K in San Diego ... the newer ones have that push button start and more tech

      I was gonna go for Lexus also but that repair turned me off. If thermostat was that difficult its likely other things will be difficult due to poor design.

      Hamza Jaffer i have the same car. Check the catalytic converters(2),coolant hoses, fuel injection, and the trans. The milage isnt super high but still high. I have 117k on my 2001

    On my Toyota's I've had two failed thermostats, they both failed in the open position, so actually it was overcooling come fall/winter.

      I have changed thermostats many times to japanese car's and they were always stuck in open position.
      Maybe those parts are designed that way so engine doesn't overheat and possibly get damaged.

    From the Lexus Haynes Book.
    Replace the thermostat in Three simple steps:
    1) Remove engine
    2) Remove and replace thermostat
    3) Place engine back in.

      New ones sure, old ones? Immensely reliable. I've had to replace the wheel bearings and hubs (pricey) but other than that ive had 25k pretty trouble free miles on my 2000 gs400. bought at 230 and its at 255k miles now. Try that with any other luxury brand lol. Plugs, oil, filters, just needs an evap canister and o2 sensor.

      Thats how the repair manuals diagnose as well! From the easiest fix to the hardest and most expensive last. Haynes manuals have saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars
