i purchase a Cerfi.used RX.330 2007 Still Driveing one hundred sixty nine thousand miles never had a brake down only tires and oil change wiper blade. bakes pads front and back thats it.Still get up and go like champ.when i jump on the E WAY.ZOOM!!!

2-3 years ago you could, used to see 2nd gen IS’ and 3rd Gen GS under 10k and I look now and I’m seeing like 06-08 IS250s and they want 15k + I bought a 16 GS350 F sport a year and a half ago and I could sell it now for more than I paid
That and they put people to sleep and then they don’t do an ounce of maintenance. I always think, poor Toyota/Lexus!
Avoid buying toyota, lexus, scion, honda, acura, they are the most stolen vehicles out there, also are highly over priced.
Have a 2003 Lexus ES300. Bought it used for $2000 with 173,000 miles on it. I have over 212,000 miles on it and it runs like a champ. Only major thing I’ve changed so far is the radiator and brakes. Other than that it’s been a very solid and reliable car.
Have you changed the transmission fluid ?

I have a 2004 Lexus RX 330 with 282,000 miles on it. I'm the original owner. I replaced the transmission fluid with Amsoil full synthetic. It corrected that 2nd to 3rd jerk. It's way smoother. Best decision I ever made for that vehicle.
My 2004 Toyota Passo didn't have this issue. The auto shifted normally but wasn't super smooth. Being fussy, I drained the ATF fluid and replaced it with Penrite full synthetic fluid. Although it was a mix of old and new fluid, the shifts became imperceptible and silky smooth 😊
Be ready the 330RX's have shitty transmissions, youve gotten a lot out of it.
i have an 06 rx330 105,000 ! it has a power steering leak from the pinion does yours?
@@fernandosousa2402 I did have a leak, and replaced with a remanufactured one. Spend the money on that part and buy a Lexus part. I replaced it 3 times with a rebuilt one from Oreillys. And that goes for the power steering pump. But Luxus or you power steering will whine. Also use synthetic transmission fluid for the power steering not regular power steering fluid. I did all the work myself, it was a pain, but possible. But not for the faint of heart.

Scotty, a family member has the same problem with a Toyota Highlander from 2006. It's been like this with no other problems for years now and thousands of miles.
Exactly. The trans can be reprogrammed if you insist the dealer do it, but they don't like to and I don't think their programming 'tries' hard enough to totally resolve it.
Had an 01 Camry that started doing the same thing at about 275,000 miles. I sold the car to one of my tenants cheap. That was almost 4 years ago. They are still driving it with almost 300,000 miles and still gets them where they need to go.

My '07 ES 350 did the same thing. It was the transmission computer acting up. Lexus re-installed it for free. Never had a problem after that
07 model is totally different, , the one here is 03-05 model,,330
@@ansv3340 Yeah you're right! Te 03'-05' were based off the Avalon platform whereas the 06'-10' are based off the Camry. I'm just saying that in my case, the tranny is still in excellent shape, just a software bug.

We had a 2004 Lexus ES 330 that we purchased with 101,000 miles. At 243,000 we sold it to my father in law. It always had a frequent rough shift between 2nd and 3rd but at 243,000 the car still runs fine. I would still drive the car to California and back to Michigan without a 2nd thought. It's a tough tough car! It survived my wife (2 accidents), my youngest son and now my elderly father in law. Repairs on this car were very, very minimal. In fact, my inlaws swear the car runs better than their leased Ford Escape!
Watching all these Scotty videos makes me wish I’d taken auto shop instead of accounting and french in high school.

My 05 camry v6 does the same exact thing. Been doing it for 6 years now so I just live with it 🤷♂️
My ES330 (2004) does the same thing under gentle acceleration... When you stand on it no such issue. Like the ecm wants to skip to a gear besides 3rd... Also my ES was very overfilled with atf when I bought it FEB 2019, over a quart over...

I have 2007 Lexus ES 350 with 217k miles , it has the same problem since long time ago, but it still running great.
What breaks my heart is Scott not doing another review on his 94 Celica.

The celica has been discontinued for so long, why would review be done on it, makes no sense, when it's not in production.

1:54 Yes, but Fix It Again Tony has produced some cars with fairly rugged non-interference engines, those FIAT Integrated Robot Engines or FIRE in short. :)
I have a 2005 ES330 that I bought in 2007. It has done 250,000 kms and has been a great car. Just a couple of bits of Canada rust but mechanically sound!
My aunt drives since brand new an ES330 2006 and now has over 200k miles with 0 issues but most important regular maintenance.
My 04 es330 have the same problem. Owned it since 130k miles now at 175k. I changed the transmission fluid 3 times but it didn't help at all. I gotta admit though that it's one of the most reliable cars i have ever owned. Im considering upgrading to an 07-10 es350 if i get lucky and save some $$. Overall i love this car its my 1st Lexus and definitely won't be the last
These 05-06 ES330's are known to have an occasional hiccup on the shift, something to do with the trans programming. I've got one, it's got 175K on it, and it's fine - just the occasional funny shift when warm. Live with it, the trans is fine, just the quirky shift once in a while. Toyota and Lexus used this trans for ages, it's bulletproof mechanically. Just this series of ES's has the funky shift.
Shifting issues can trip a CEL. PO730 PO740. Could also be a faulty solenoid.
I'm adding to, "Don't fix what ain't broke.", to include, "And sometimes don't even fix what is broke." Reminds of the time I got and EGR valve failure. I got 1 more mpg out of the truck... so that never got fixed!!!
Thank you for giving us all this knowledge , I just recently purchased the same exact model Lexus. I’m having the same issues with the valve cover gasket and my car slipping between 2nd & 3rd gear , I’m going to try out that additive .
Have fun changing the timing belt on that.

The Es300 Es330 of this period had transmission problems, they were known to slip and jerk. I owned one ended up having to scrape it, because of the transmission, even though the engine was still good 🙉

My old 95' Lexus SC300 v6, had 203k miles when I sold it last Spring and the auto tranny still shifted like new. I did change the tranny fluid every 50k miles or so. Lexus are great cars.
Honda, Toyota, Acura, and Lexus . That's what ppl should buy , for the most part. But people should stop buying new cars for a while
.. but people are stupid, and that's why the prices aren't going down anytime soon...why would the dealers stop overpricing , I'd people are stupid enough to pay the prices?

My 04 ES330 is at 340k miles without ever having had a major issue. Most reliable vehicle ever built!
This is the 3rd Lexus ES3** video i've seen on Scotty's Channel. He did one were he had to replace the alternator. In this video he said the valve cover gasket will leak, and the transmission slips between 2 and 3 gear. My ES330 have all the same issues.
Problems with this transmission are rare but nothing is failsafe. But then again this kind of problem is very common in almost all automatic transmissions at some point and you can drive them for many years like this. You just don't want to drive them hard. A friend of mine in high school had a 1972 Olds 88 and he had to have neutral dropped that beast 100 times. Didn't phase it. That was one solid transmission.

Only problem I have had with my ES330 is the check engine light coming on every few years and it's always the gas cap. Replace with OEM cap and problem goes away for three years.

Lexus customer service is second to none . We bought a RX and love it absolutely not one problem in 3 years motoring .
2002 ford escape does the samething but from 2nd gear to 3rd gear rpm takes a little longer to rise up I guess I'll just live with it like scotty said
I fixed that in my 05 es330 with Amsoil signature series ATF. Just drain and fill about 3 times to be in the safe side. 2 times might work. Depend what’s the condition of your fluid. And now works perfectly fine. I lived with that for 5 years until I switched to amsoil. Runs like a dream 115000 miles. And no they don’t pay me to say this. Haha. 3.7qt btw each drain and fill. Don’t overfill the transmission! I hope it helps. Good luck

I think this is a common problem with Es330. I currently own one in Nigeria and occasionally, it shift rough from 4th to 5tj gear especially under hot weather which is usually somewhere around 37 degree celcius. I eventually replaced transmission for $500 because it got worse by the day.
I have the same problem on my es300, it won’t shift funny if you’re on the gas pretty heavy, but if you’re feathering the gas doing stop and go city driving it’ll act up.

My 2002 ES 300 has the same mileage 167k. Shifts smooth like butter. Bought it last April w 163k miles from original owner. Transmission fluid is bright red.

Had the same car with same problem, swap out trans. fluid twice within a month with toyota/ lex fluid, problem went away.
I've used lubegard to stop converter shudder and man that stuff stopped it entirely! 16,000 miles since I put it in.
What kind of lubegard did you put in ? I see many different products

It’s called a flared shift and to fix it all you have to do is change all the solenoids in the valve body and reset the transmission
Personally with that transmission issue, I would just monitor it. I mean the worst is you need a new transmission or a rebuild (luckily this one is a geared automatic so they are probably easier to rebuild than a CVT). But I think it's one of those things you sort of live with and if it get s worse then you do something about it (sort of like what Scotty is saying at the end...) And it's not tripping codes or cause the car to act funny (other than when it occurs between 2nd and third gear). I mean it could be as simple as an engine computer problem, but like Scotty said, just live with it. I mean I drove a 95 Ford Taurus for about 3 years with a bad transmission mount and a bad motor mount. Never got worse, just stayed the same and if you accelerated slowly you'd feel the clunk from only 1st to 2nd, but it wasn't worth fixing and I drove it for 3 year like that (put about 80k miles on the car in that time frame).
They rarely rebuild them anymore usually will offer a used transmission. I guess for $3500 if he gets two years out of it its a win.
I got my 2007 ES350 3 years ago with 133k miles doing that 3rd to 4th when cold or briefly after hwy driving. Now has 183k I did a drain and fill about 2k miles ago and gonna do a 2nd one. Also hear it's a designed to protect trans until warm up or there was a software update to fix the issue. Anyways mine still runs great!
My RX 350 from 2007 does the same thing . It shifts really smooth between all gears cold and hot however going from second to third gear it kind of has a glitch almost like it engages the third gear twice. But no jerkiness nothing still smooth as silk. Does it only when transmission warms up and cruising at low rpm’s. Once you give it some gas and rpm’s go higher than 3000 all gears shift perfectly with no double shifting between 2-3. Changed the oil , no improvement so I decided to live with it. The fluid is good red color with no debris on dipstick and I drove a lot with this issue. Still going strong , knock on wood. I have read on the internet that Toyota introduced the adaptive automatic tranismissions around 2005 era where shifting is adapted to your driving style. Maybe something relating to that
Lucas stuff gums up, lubeguard is the best additive I've ever used.

My 08 rx350 does it from 2nd to 3rd at around 20 mph and 2k rpm. Mostly when driving slow behind buses. Not always. Read about "Lexus ASL". When I put it snow mode it almost never happens.

I own a 2004 Camry 3.0 is been doing exactly the same thing for years the problem haven’t get any better or worst now the car has 230 thousand miles and still runs like a champ… it just unbelievable how good this things are built
If it was built that good it would not have this issue.

I recognize a lot about that vehicle, appears to be 2006 ES 330 likely engine 3MZ-FE, because similiar components with 2007 RX 400h, even headlamp appear same beside engine characteristics.
*My 04 gs300 ( one of them ) didn't shift into gear well from a stand still. It wasn't the transmission, but the transmission oil was cherry black. Flush, change, or let it be?*

Afternoon Scotty, got a 21 Camry. Only 15k miles recently on the first drive of the day for about 10-15 minutes going from 3-4 it seems to slip/high rev up to 4k with very little gas, any idea what it could be? Once it warms up completely it goes away.

NICE! I have the same car lol. Silver color. Got it in 2015 with 69k miles on it for like 9,000 dollars. I have about 113,500 miles now lol. Only did brake and muffler maintenance and tires, but that's standard for all cars.
Great find! I bought mine in 2022 with 160,000, for $2,000. What a great car! Rides smooth, brakes great, blows cold air A/C. Got it for my youngest in college. Needed brakes, tires, and timing belt. Easy peezy

Form my experience Toyota automatic transmissions are pretty indestructible as long as you keep the fluid clean and don't do something stupid like shift from reverse to drive while the car is still moving.
That’s basically how it is even with other manufacturers

As advised in the "car care nut" channel a solution to this issue is: Replace transmission fluid and reset vehicle memory with dealer level scan tool. All the best.
That won't work if it's a wear & tear issue.

I have the same car and the transmission is acting up I have read a couple of forums it seems this Lexus has a problem with the computer, they say you can fix it by updating the computer.
hey scotty not sure if you'll see this but I found an amazing price on my first car which happens to be one of my dream cars, it's a 1984 Pontiac firebird trans am roadster the only issue is that the ragtop is missing the back glass and I cant seem to find anywhere that has it by any chance would you know anywhere I can find one or what I can use to replace it or have it custom made id really appreciate the help

What I do is I save video in my "Watch later" Playlist. When I go for long drives, I watch that Playlist with my phone on it's hands-free stand. I was listening to music at max volume and forgot to lower it before starting my "Watch later"playlist... Scotty's intro plays "REV UP YOUR ENGINES VROOOOM VROOOOOM", the police pulls me over. They thought I revved it up for real...
Hey Scotty....I have a 2016 Tundra 4x4. Toyota said i needed to service the transfer case and both diffs at 30k miles. I thought that is too soon to service them. Your thoughts ?
Drove a mechanic nuts when i dropped a Jetta off 4 times issue was losing power, finally acted up for them the, 4th time, problem was a loose spark plug 8 inches in the engine
I agree with scotty I drain and replace the transmission filter and fluid every 50 k to 60 k. I change fluids frequently on almost all my cars hell when me and girlfriend bought up her family heirloom a 98 Toyota rav4 the thing ran like crap did some basic maintenance and all fluids flushed thing runs like a chamois again.
Scotty I have lexus GS300 and it has broken silenoids in the transmission, the car gives a jerk when going from 2 to 3rd gear. Is this a big problem or should I keep driving it

I have a 2004 ES330 with 130.000 km on it. I change the fluid and filter in the beginning of the summer (month of May usually) to start the hot summer with clean fluid and filter. It means I change the trans fluid and filter every 10-15k KM not miles !!!!
I have a 2002 lexus gs 300 with 82,000 miles Cinnamon Pearl Red. . It needs new roters I hear a noise when in reverse. Other than that its great!!
For minor shift issues id drain/ fill with toyota fluid and put some lubegard red.
How does it compare with Lucas Stop Slip?
My 2003 ES with 230k miles does the same thing. It's still worth getting the transmission rebuilt.

Scotty, think I should use some of the LubeGuard Red in the 2014 IS250 I just bought? It has the A960E 6-speed automatic. 179k miles.

Had 2015 and ‘19 RX350s. Other than appearance, I liked the ‘15 much better…
My 2007 Lexus es350 had same issues when I bought it the previous owner said it has a sensor inside the transmission needs to be change I have the car for 6 years and it still has the problem every morning just when it's cold.
What i've learned is that the a541e is the indestructable transmission and the u140e the weaker one.
Hey i have a question about a 2007 lexus is250, i was wondering if i bought one of these cars would getting unleaded gas instead of premium be completely fine with no disadvantage? My dad has an 04 rx 330 with the same engine, and the timing belt broke while driving and caused no damage. I also own an 05 sienna with same engine that’s on the original timing belt @ 300,000 km
There’s about 30% chance the valves will be closed & the piston doesn’t hit them. You just got lucky

Those 3.3s used to be the SLUDGE engine too but... Only to those who never changed the oil. IF you used a good oil and changed it before 4,000 miles it was fine
I've had people talk all kinds of crap about Toyota engines and sludge buildup here on TY comments. Toyota engines are some of the cleanest engines the world has ever seen. This is why I tell people, yeah, check the owner's manual for the oil change interval but that's just a guideline. You HAVE to look at the oil at least once a month on the stick. I've seen brand new engines need an oil change from factory fill at 2k miles. You'll know there's a problem because your MPGs will be waaaay down and the oil will literally look like molasses. All modern engines with VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS (that have poor oil circulation by design) regardless of who makes the engine... If you look at the oil and change it when it needs to be changed (putting aside the interval) you will never have a sludge problem. Most people (especially women) are not car people and so makes sense when engines build up sludge, I've even seen practically brand new cars (2020-2021 MY) smoking out the tailpipe blue smoke. There ya go. Buy a brand new car, spend all that money just to never change the oil.
@@justacinnamonbun8658 TL and already know. Guess you never worked at a Toyota dealer when these engines were being replaced under the sludge campaign. Some were real clean on the bottom too but the cams, the head was gunked which was strange. I think they changed their oil sometimes but it was cheap oil. The 2020's era cars smoking bad alot of times are direct injection issues.
Good to know because I plan on takin my 2016 Camry to 2030.
