Hey Scotty I got a 2005 toyota corolla that recently started shaking after installing a "brand new battery" from o'reilly yet nothing comes up when testing it, any idea what it might be
Really need help getting my vehicle fix need help paying for the parts and for them to be put on I will show proof I got it done need coolant reservoir and catetlac converter please help so I can be able to do my delivery job $moereed94😢
everyone knows the second one.. it was famous for many decade, since it was on top gear as most durable engine (22re) and i had one in florida. took to west coast and sold if it instantly with a blown head gasket.. same year as his... in denver to guatemalans... 😅
Old manuals for sale. Take it for a test drive....quietly find a tree. Nudge up to the tree. Set the brake. Start letting out the pedal. If the engine doesn't stall at or before 2000RPM...the clutch is worn out.
My dad had a 94 4x4 Toyota pickup. Loved that truck. Drove it from new till my 18th birthday. Sold it. Still trying to find it again. Been searching for years.
I'm surprised they're selling for what that guy bought the one in this video for because they were always in demand. I blew an engine in my F250 coming off the grapevine into Bakersfield. Strange that I got all the way over the grapevine hauling a huge 4 horse steel trailer with 3 ramps (super heavy) loaded with four horses. My veterinarian had moved there and I was bringing horses to him. He had one of these trucks. Then he bought a Chevy S10 when they first came out. It couldn't handle the weight of his vet box (they contain hot water as well as supplies). Dealer replaced something and it went less than 10k more miles and did it again. (Later they beefed it up -- apparently they didn't realize people planned to use it as a pickup truck.) So he pulled my truck and trailer with four horses on the flat into Bakersfield with his Toyota pickup that had over 300k miles on it. And he had his vet box on it because he was using it rather than have the S10 fail again!
About Japanese Suzukis - Scotty was on to it this time. One way Suzuki did themselves in was to partner with GM who had them rebadge Daewoo designs for the North American Market. I have had a few Japanese Suzukis which have been excellent mechanically, especially the engines My 1991 Swift is still all original including the brakes and clutch and keeps up with traffic easily. The way it is going it will easily last another 30 years.
I'm going to sign Scotty up for a talking contest. He's the best. There is absolutely no way I could keep up with him with my southern accent. Seriously, I really like him and the advice he gives out is very good. Great stuff!
I'm a mechanic and a lover of auto anything.. I like seeing Scotty get excited over good deals... The way to get good deals IS to not rush.. and be able to produce the cash when you find that great deal.
Got well over 300k on my '90 Toyota SR5 3.0 V6 5-Speed,Tow Package, power everything, A/C, CD/Cassette, AM/FM..burns No oil, runs like a sewin' machine 😎👍
my first car was a granny car. She bought it new when she was close to retirement. 1978 Pontiac Phoenix 305 v8. Garage kept. I got it around 2001 with 40,000 miles for 1500 dollars.
Just bought an 07 Lexus RX350. $3,200. 295k miles. 1 family owned. It's basically brand new. Smoother than most new cars I've driver. AWD. I've had 13 cars, trucks, suv's...this is my favorite.
I brought 2002 Toyota Corolla that has 27K miles from senior citizens from FL about 10 years ago dor 8K. I only paint the side and hoods last year. The car still running fine.
Where I live...I still see A LOT of old vehicles running around. Toyota mini trucks, Chevy and Ford pickups, from the 70s, 80s,90s. These are by no means restored vehicles. People maintain them...and just run them. The guy across the street from me, has an 88 Chevy, with a 350. It has almost 800k on it, and is completely reliable. He drives it every day! Never had the valve covers off of it!!! Another vehicle I see a lot...82 -95 Olds, Buick, Pontiac, Chevy sedans. And...Any Crown Vic!!! All bullettproof.
There's 2008 Lexus RX400H AWD(w/timing chain) sitting on Craigslist in Naples, FL for $13,900 with only 60k miles...the thing is mint. That's not even broken in yet. lol
Here in Kentucky, you go up one hill and down another and the small engines struggle to overcome it. Maybe, it would be the same in Tennessee. The VW love bug didn`t go well here because the lack of pep on hills didn`t impress the girls.
Good tips. Thank you! But I think people are pretty aware of the value of the little Toyota pick ups. I get notes on my '87 from time to time from people asking if I want to sell it. A week ago a professional house painter said he'd paint my 2 story house in trade for the little truck. By the way, it's pretty easy to shift without a clutch...while you're saving up for the new one. 🤣
$2500 with 250k on it...plus probably $1000 for a clutch if they had it dkne by a shop...so, $3500 for a base model 91 toyota pickup with 250k on it. And a top end knock..... yea, its pretty clean. But ,no thanks...
I have a Suzuki SX4 1.6L from 2012 with 165,000 km, 5-speed manual transmission. It is a rock made in Japan, totally reliable, it has never let me down. Excellent car. Greetings from Chile.
Yes! That is the best deal of them all in this video. and I'm with Scotty -- I never had an automatic car or pickup. The only vehicles I drove had manual transmissions and none of this transmitting crap they put in them today.
I had a '83 tree quarter ton. Toyota pickup. Ran so long the timing chain wore through the guides and then through the timing cover. Thought it was a head gasket because it cut in to the water pump area. It still ran good. New cover and back to work 😀
Yeah that's a good point about manual transmissions... Even a little 3-cilinder engine can be pretty spiffy if you let it rev up to 4000rpm before manually shifting, especially if it's in a lightweight car (like a compact).
Triple the price? Well then whats stopping you from going to a different state to buy a car? I'd say a $100 1-way plane ticket to a new state to buy a car and then drive it back home would be more than worth it. Unless thats too much effort to pay 1/3 of your states price.
A family member just bought a 2012 Suzuki Sx4 awd for $4500, only 123,000 miles on it! Had it looked over and all it needs is one outer tie rod, brakes, n rotors. (Gonna do both outer tie rods) Its an automatic and Ive driven it n i'll tell ya, in the 2wd setting plenty of pep n pickup getting on the hwy! I actually love that lil guy lol lol..
Chevy Colorado trucks are very good definitely over looked. My son bought a 2018 New he has 74000 miles on it today tires , brakes, still good the only thing he has done was change the oil every 5000 miles
I bought a 2003 Susuki 4x4 mini SUV just a few months before the Pademic 2019 with 93 thousand on it. Been driving ever since, and it doesn't burn oil, very quiet. I just replaced the exhaust behind the cat, two pieces and that's all I have done to it besides regular maintenance. I am embarrassed to say how cheap it was so I won't. It does have auto transmission and yes it is gutless but its fantastic in Minnesota winter. And the Susuki wasn't a Minnesota vehicle so no rust!
I bought a 2009 sx4 3yrs ago.. 4x4 automatic.. it did lack power.. but after I removed some transmission oil and replaced with Lucas fix.. and learnt to shift manually when I go up or down hill.. I must say I enjoy driving that tiny thing!! I can easily go uphill at 120km (75mph?).. I feel safe solid driving even in our Canadian winters (6months up north).. it's now up to 377000km! (235 000miles)! .. the previous owner didn't maintain it that well so I had to change a few parts eventually but I got it for 1200$ so pretty good deal!
@@petayV8 replaced all. Seals are easy - got from a online Toyota dealer, AiSIN timing belt kit. The tools are cheap on eBay. Crank bolt is he hardest and I got a long breaker bar from harbor freight.
All good cars to find and that's just it, a needle in a haystack here in Florida and if you find one, buy it on the spot like you say Scotty........A lot of sellers around here want gold for cars that are near worthless, and hard to get a deal, but you have to look never the same.
Yay! You finally got an SX-4 to talk about! I was going to ask you about how reliable the engines were and you answered that question. Glad to hear the engines last a long time. I own a 2008 SX-4 with 21,000 miles.......Yes. That's not a mistake......21,000 actual miles. I inherited it from my mother. She bought it brand new in 2008. Mine has an automatic trans. and it gets up and goes just fine. But I baby it anyway because I can't buy parts for it anymore so I'm trying to make it last. The only bad thing about this car is I can't get parts anywhere since they pulled out of the country. If it does break I'm screwed :-(
I had a Suzuki SX4 with an automatic transmission and I lived in the mountains and it worked great. I did have to change the automatic transmission fluid at 60,000 mile intervals because it would burn. I did get rid of it still running with 210,000 miles, I got a Subaru which I did not like as much.
Suzuki are a great car, very popular here in australia.the 1.4 litre turbo with a regular 6 speed auto is phenomenal. Suzuki should try again in the USA. You guys are missing out
Rubber timing belts are usually not too bad to replace when you can see the entire timing cover. I'd rather have an easy to change rubber belt than a difficult to replace chain. They cram stuff in there so tight that an easy to service late model is hard to find
Nice video! I'd love an RX300. By the way, my V8 1UZ VVTI is an interference engine. Bought it at 170,000 miles three years ago and immediately changed the timing belt. Now at over 200,000 miles and running smooth.
My 2003 Lexus RX 300 has 250k miles on it and it still running well. Had to put a timing belt on it 20k miles ago. The water pump was leaking so l had to do it. Bought it for 5,500.00 five years ago.
That's a great price, good for the new owner. In Canada with an 06 Highlander with 450,000km for my US neighbours that's 280,000 miles. That Lexus will go forever. Thxz Scotty
Well I just picked up a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire with 105,000 miles for $100. Had a check engine light that said PO303. After replacing the old battery. The battery read 12.75 volt 100% charge and only 235 cca and 59% life.
0:28 not really. Unless you live in the mountains or Alaska, AWD is a complete gimmick. It makes the vehicle more expensive to repair, including tires (the tire shops will always complain that your tread is mismatched etc, then you buy more tires more often etc etc).
I miss driving a standard shifter, yes there fast, I've driven a semi with 10 speed standard and when I'm light loaded or pulling empty trailer, I skip gears and drive it like a muscle car by skipping gear.
To be away from EV trap, we must maintain our cars specially with manual transmission, so we can drive them, forever. And Scotty mentioned it can go even 400K miles.

Agreed
I will wave both arms to that!
Our 01 Rx300 has 230k miles on it, doesn’t burn oil or leak any fluids. Amazingly built car.
My hondas and fords have had over 300 to 370k and still ran like new too
My uncle has a 91 Toyota 4x4 stick shift pickup and still going strong. Never had a major problem with it. It's a true work truck 👍👍

I was looking around for a Lexus Rx 300 too and then this video pops out, Scotty never disappoints thanks Scotty !!
He’s right about everything aside from the gas mileage. They only average 20 mpg.
RX300 had a transmission issue (no recall). -Most were dealer fixed. RX330 maybe better.
I brought 2002 Toyota Corolla that has 27K miles from senior citizens from FL about 10 years ago dor 8K. I only paint the side and hoods last year. The car still running fine.
Why wouldn't it be.....you have 27k miles..

I agree those old Toyota pickups are wonderful but the window cranks do break. Not just the handle but the funky looking gear inside.

That RX300 is a great car. Wish I could have come across that deal I would buy it.

Carp Scotty! Now them-thair lexueseses will cost $27,000.00 on Monday! Sayin’ goes: “Scotty rant on Sunday, sell em’ all on Monday.” 😕
Truth!! I drive Lexus only and I'll have it til the wheels fall off😂
Sorry but Scotty doesn't influence the market like Warren Buffett 😅
He talks about whats reliable and whats not the real people that drive up the prices is like that douche bag whistlen diesel dude
I believe every time you post about the cheap ones those ppl raise the prices up 😂😂😂
Only one of those cars has set the overall record for The Pike's Peak Hill Climb. The Suzuki.
I have kia spectra 2005 I don't remember when last time I put gas 😅😅 probably a month ago and I drive it everyday and everywhere
My 07 highlander has a timing belt but it's a non interference engine. Older vehicles are better than new in my view.
God bless this man. Protect at all cost
Rubber timing belts are usually not too bad to replace when you can see the entire timing cover. I'd rather have an easy to change rubber belt than a difficult to replace chain. They cram stuff in there so tight that an easy to service late model is hard to find
Suzuki- “Jump in and Drive it! Then get out and say-‘well that’s an experience I’m never going to do again.’” 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Scotty’s literary drooling over this lexus
Nice video! I'd love an RX300. By the way, my V8 1UZ VVTI is an interference engine. Bought it at 170,000 miles three years ago and immediately changed the timing belt. Now at over 200,000 miles and running smooth.
Scotty sure does love that True Coat!! Felt like Fargo 😂
Best little car I ever owned was a 1991 Suzuki swift 5 speed.
Thxz Scotty
Grannies cars usually have bumper dents, or they have run over stuff. Check the undercarriage.
Scotty, the coolest mechanic on TH-cam 😎
I remember you back in the day . What channel. Was there only three?
Well said Scotty, as always !!
Crank operated windows can break. Although not as much as electric windows.
Im sold on lexus i bought a 2004 rx330 due to you for 5800. I thank you so much! I will buy granny lexus for rest of my life
Enjoy your videos keep going ty Scotty
For a european like me, its hilarious to see that "grannycars" in America have V6-engines 😁 love it
I thought 1st gen Lexus RX300 had a known transmission problem which caused it to often fail after 100k miles.
To be fair what early 2000s car didn't?
@@Yophillips3272 Camrys don't have transmissions issues as far as I know.
@@Yophillips3272plenty of others didnt....
@@Johnny-bm7ryI have heard those Camrys were the best I ones ever built. 97-01 Camrys are seen on the road today.
i have a 99 rx300 with 260,000. had it since 2000. best car ever. am looking for that “granny car” of the same.
Well I just picked up a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire with 105,000 miles for $100. Had a check engine light that said PO303. After replacing the old battery. The battery read 12.75 volt 100% charge and only 235 cca and 59% life.
I definitely agree he never disappoints !!
Thank you Scotty for all your video’s. I also love that your voice sounds so much like
Joe Pesci
Who would take a chance on a used E V ? Could be a low trade in value .
Oh, Scotty doesn't know
So don't tell Scotty
Scotty doesn't know
Scotty doesn't know
Scott knows
Can you review the Lincoln Town Cars Please..
0:28 not really. Unless you live in the mountains or Alaska, AWD is a complete gimmick. It makes the vehicle more expensive to repair, including tires (the tire shops will always complain that your tread is mismatched etc, then you buy more tires more often etc etc).
Long live Scotty Kilmer!!
