A benefit of a Goodyear welt is that they can be repeatedly resoled. I have had several pairs of Florsheim Imperial shoes during the last 40 years that I have had resoled at least three times.
While that costs the same as a medium price range new shoe. The premium grade leather, after a resole is far more comfortable than the medium price range shoes, because it has molded to the shape of your foot, so it fits like a glove.
As I have spent my business life as a Corporate Salesman, working in the CBD, where I walk often miles in a day, because I can't be bothered about constantly re-parking my car, I just love walking in the comfort provided by resoled shoes. It's not about trying to save money. Phil.

Another thing that worked for me was to condition the leather a few times using a product that won't hurt/discolor the leather. I use Venetian Shoe Cream. It softened the leather some and made breaking them in quicker and easier.

Blake Stitch is a “no-no” for people who live in rainy EU cities.
Goodyear will not leak as easy, more protection.
Thicker sole - better for cobblestone walking, add rubber to the sole.
Blake will leak water from the street into your sole.
