- It's time to spruce up my 1 year old nano aquarium with a new background plant. Today I'm planting Umbrella Hair Grass aka Eleocharis vivipara! This plant will fill in the very bland looking background of my UNS 5N (4 gal). Thank you to Buce Plant for sponsoring today's video!

Another awesome video Logan, keep up the great work!
That looks a lot better Logan! I keep montadivensis which I think is basically the same! It grows great in my 9 gallon flex scape! Even low tech! Just be aware that they are prone to getting algae on the blades closer to the light! But maybe since you’re dosing co2 yours won’t do that! Mine spreads across the surface like a floating plant if you let it! Hope it works out for you!
i keep vivipara before but i doesnt know how to trim it. Do you know how to trim it?
I trimmed it like any other hairgrass and hacked it down. Some folks comb it out and replant the plantlets
Vivipara looks messy after few weeks. Eleocharis montevidensis would stay like that one
I would echo the same. I had v poor experience with vivipara. It splits in 2 plants at the very edge and it continues till a mesh of hair grass is formed at the surface. Instead of a long grass like look it provides a messy bird nest like look.
@@aquahobby1982 exactly!
I've heard. I'm excited to try it out and see if I can keep it tamed. Either way it's a good learning experience for me :)
@@LoganRandoAquascaping will look forward to it. Also , u might have few trick under ur sleeve which might teach us how to handle vivipara at background.
Eleocharis acicularis would be a smarter choice , vivipara is too big for the tank and will shade too much.
I'll have to try acicularis sometime
