- I picked up a discarded MTD Yard Machines walk behind push mower from the landfill in hopes that I could swap the bad engine on it. In this video, I am replacing that bad engine with a good one from an older MTD mower that I have had for 15 years.

I have a 20-y-old Deere walk behind mower. The Briggs engine is awesome. The deck is so rusted, it's now just paint (not exaggerating). So, I'm going to do the same thing. Great video. I feel inspired.
That old engine just needed a $4 primer bulb but I like they way you solved the problem WAY better ;)

190cc Briggs engine you used is stone reliable and has gobs of torque. Love em. Way more power than the engine you removed. I do this kind of thing all the time.
He’s ok dumping a load of gas everywhere....but a few grass clippings on the drive way is a pisser offer? Haha
I didn't dump any gas anywhere. It leaked out so I properly disposed of the difference
I have to do the same thing I have 4 lawnmower only 1 works but rusted out. Wish they all still used aluminum decks. Thanks for the great video
Hey, if you're looking for snowblower buy a simplicity. The best hands down on the market. I've had mine for 15 years and it's done 8 blizzards and it's a beast made to last
After watching your video I did the same. Unfortunately one of the engine bolts would not come out. Tried everything, even a grabber socket. And had a impact wrench, still no go. Finally had to Drexel it out. It's always that one stubborn bolt! But it worked out in the end....
my bagger never pick up tools and parts I guess I'm getting rid of the Toro.
I had a car like that once. It needed new tires, so I pulled the engine. Haha!

It's what I need to do now. I was about to buy a mower off FB right now but it's raining. Instead, I'll search for a new yard machine deck right now.

When you tip the mower sideways, it's possible the oil in the crankcase could find its way into the muffler. Depends on which way you tip it, I guess
I found a free lawn mower on the side of the road, the engine was dead. I found another free mower and the deck was good. A quick engine swap made a great free mower. The only issue I went from a self propelled to a push however I have a small property and is relatively flat.
If the wheels were the problem, couldn't you just replace them (taking the good wheels from the donor mower)? That way you can have the bagging feature of the other one. I guess replacing the engine may have been easier

Wheels suck on the mower.....instead of swapping wheels lets just take off the entire engine instead. Love it!!!!

I have an old Yard Machine mower with the bagger that I beat the heck out of. They are tough. It's what I use to bag up after I scalp with the GM1000.
Yeah they really do take a beating well.

All you had to do to other motor was change the gas primer and maybe clean the carb

Me ward. Any experience using predator. I’ve gotten rid of a couple mowers I love ( 30” residential toro 2 blades ). I would have lived to put a predator engine as the Briggs Stratton just didn’t last. Any numbers of cc or hp we need to pay attention to. The thing I ran into is the numbers aren’t exact same on old engine vs new engine. So I figured I’d buy the same Briggs and put it in old mower or sell used as is mower and buy new mower. I always bought new but wished I knew more. THANKS
Old engine just needed a carb rebuild or a cheap chino carb would be like $15.00. But I loved the engine toss @ the end.
Give it to the scrapers the toss engine
At the end just don't blow it on your driveway or get a leaf blower pull it backwards forwards far enough that when you turn it the other way it doesn't blow on stuff

A new primer bulb only costs a couple of bucks, you could have fixed the free mower and still had the one with the bagger.
But what about the pull string on that engine
@@lawnrebel My local hardware store sells starter rope for 79 cents a foot, probably the cheapest part on a lawn mower.

@@lawnrebel i did it on mine and it works great. The suction is awesome plus, like the washer trick, it lowers the blade down a little.

@@lawnrebel link you?!? Its all home grown. Grab 2 blades, preferably one that is flat and one that is like a C channel in the center. Notch the channel out so the flat blade rides in it, and bolt 'er down tight.
@Dave Noble that is what I originally wanted, yes. However it also cuts much better, mulches the clippings smaller. I have a couple trees that are constantly dropping branches and it sucks them in and chimps them up enough that they break down in .y compost bin much faster. Great for a clean up mow before the reel goes over it. Just make sure you balance them up. It takes a little doing to get it done so the whole mower doesn't vibrate to death. But its worth it. Side note, the extra weight makes starting it WAY easier, which was unexpected.

I hate when my mower leaves tools and parts everywhere.
I bought a brand new Honda HRH, and transmission was lost after 15 minutes... luckily enough I found a part on the lawn later, brought it back to the dealer who told me it never happened before, of course (he sold it saying "you won't have to care about it for 10 years") and I haven't had any more issues with it. In fact I wanted to post a joke like "Just buy a Honda and keep your engine"...
