In this video I'll show you how to swap out a lawn mower engine, thereby marrying a good deck with a good engine, and saving the planet in the process by not having to scrap both mowers! I fix and swap mower motors all the time. It’s a great way to make a few dollars.It keeps them out of the landfills.

Just replaced my deck on my craftsman mower, and despite the front bolts stripping, I was able to replace the deck. Perhaps now with the new one I will be more diligent and clean the deck after cutting the grass!

Well it might help if you put some penetrating oil on that to try and get it off sometimes that works

Buck tip your mower with your air filter and carburetor facing up
You still got good wheels too if you ever need spares and other parts. Looks like a brand new mower and saved you money why spend the money if you don't have to.
Try penetrating oil to break the rust.

How about spraying some WD 40
DEAR BUCK: I HAVE A TORO RECYCLER WITH A 6.0 HP AND A CRAFTMAN 6.5 HP, PROBLEM IS ONE IS SELF PROPELLED THE OTHER IS NOT, THE TORO HAD HAND CONTROLS FOR THROTTLE SPEED AND THE OTHER LEVER IS FOR THE SELF PROPELLED WHEEL SPEED. I DONT NEED THE SELF PROPELLED FEATURE. THE PUSH MOWER WHICH IS CRAFTSMAN HAS A SPRING FOR THE BRAKE CABLE BUT THAT LOOKS DIFFERENT ON THE TORO. I ALSO AW SOMEBODY WILLING TO GIVE ME A TORO WITH A 6.5 HP BRIGGS ENGINE BUT I DID NOT REALIZE IT WAS SELF PROPELLED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS OFF THE DECK AND I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO REMOVE THE BRAKE CABLE FROM THE HANDLE ON THE TORO. CAN I OUT AN ENGINE THAT IS SELF PROPELLED FROM A TORO DECK ON A CRAFTMAN DECK THAT HAS A DIFFERENT BRAKE CABLE SPRING? DO YOU HAVE A PHONE I CAN CALL YOU AT? MY EXISTING CRAFTSMAN DECK HAS THE HIGH WHEELS IN THE REAR WHEREAS THE TORO DOES NOT. THANKS, DAVE

@@Buckwsr as far as the toro with the 6.5 hp engine that is self propelled the brake cable is on the left side if I was standing in front of it and the craftsman has the brake cable on the right side. part of me thinks there is a possibility that this may not work on a craftsman deck because the craftsman brake cable is longer than the Toro brake cable because it is on the right side and loops around to connect to the left side of the handle. Buy some super clean and hose it off lot easier!
The "proper way" to save the planet is to buy a brand new $1000 cordless mower, throw away the battery every couple of years and the mower every 5 years into the landfill, and feel good about yourself.
Oh, so that's how you do it!
