I think 99% of most rpg, jrpg gamers missed the best jrpg of the year. Dragon quest x offline. 500 hours long. Awesome journey. Hope for more expansions or other mmos to make offline versions.
Its crazy only one game on this list, won TGA award. Does jrpg really have great year in 2023? Maybe for AA titles and remakes Anyway, my personal jrpg of the year is "Trails into Reverie" Not for hype you up 😅 And also, Sea of Stars a must play too if you haven't
TGA people don't have time to sink their teeth into "100+ hour outdated turn-based grind fests." To be fair, for Trails to Azure or Trails into Reverie has a little bit of gatekeeping... Azure being a sequel to Trails from Zero, which is a sequel to the Trails in the Sky trilogy. Reverie takes place after Cold Steel IV, and most likely not where anyone should start. It's like starting One Piece at the Wano Country ark, where sure, it is a substory (to the overarching plot), but starting there kinda skips past the character building, context of certain set pieces, among other things. Good luck getting their jury to play a game series of 10 'hundred hour' JRPGs just so they can appreciate the plot of the most recent title, then expecting the voters to all do the same. I do feel Xenoblade 3 Future Redeemed got snubbed too, but yeah, same thing applies to it too.
@@Jay6xexcept turn based isn't outdated. Action games have been around nearly the same amount of time. Anyone that says turn based is outdated is just their way of saying that they don't like it.
TGA are an odd beast. It’s decided by game news orgs that are nominated by big name hardware and publisher brands…so. A very specific demographic. It’s kind of like how Oscar winners may or may not actually be the best movies of the year and definitely won’t be the most popular. Though Sea of Stars won best indie, so there’s a little representation.
I've literally played none of these. How do you play so many games? I have two kids, a wife, a house, and a job so I have very little time to game unfortunately. I do want Octopath 2 and super Mario RPG. I might get star ocean 2 as well.
Nice list but most of them suck bro sorry to say it i dont like most of the games but super mario rpg fire emblem engage and final fantasy xvi i do love so yeah usually i dont do it but for you i will i give you a thumbs up your welcome btw bro ^^

Octopath if you ask me is starting to become the new Final Fantasy.
It is. Final fantasy is an action game now.
I love Octopath but I also love FF16. Played both. Had a blast.
Octopath at 1. Well deserved. Also, One Piece Odyssey was my surprise of the year. Had a ton of fun with it.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed One Piece as well!
Bought Octopath 2 and downloading now. You sold me.

I’ve always thought JRPGs don’t get enough love at TGA. It’s ridiculous that some of these games aren’t held as high as the more mainstream games.
