I’m so damned existed for you Johnny, I really can’t wait to see this finished , the amount of work and the amazing detail that you are all putting into this build is outstanding, im a bit jealous, will a say little bit 😜 I’m actually jealous as hell , only in a good and loving way 😁, I’m at the age where I grew up with these things , we used to call them EGG ROLLS ,😂😂, not sure if that was just a Scottish thing , love how you are bringing this once probably hated car back to life as a sleeper , what a great idea , it’s crazy how something that i personally hated when I was young and now doing a complete 180 to now loving it , crazy as hell , and to do it in that same colour is priceless 🤣🤣, love your videos buddy , just not keen on you doing the electric ones , keep the great work going tho , sending love from Scotland ❤️🏴
Can’t wait to see this thing move under its own power, and the resulting huge grin on Jonny’s face.
Me neither. It's been a long time coming, but the progress is really solid now. Very chuffed to see it coming together with the quality I wanted. 👍🏽
@@TheLateBrakeShow Do you think it will be finished this year realistically or is it still years away?
I want to see Tiff shaking it down for haaaandling purposes
@TheLateBrakeShow these things to so long unless you can put 3 or 4 people on it constantly at a cost that is completely unrealistic and even then it would take over a year to build something that detailed and if it was rushed you would make mistakes about how things are laid out ect. It's a great build and love seeing the progress.
Probably be finished before Project Binky....
Can’t wait to see baby Binky on the road! Hope it’s not a wait till episode 1472. 😊😉😉
I'm amazed it's still being done. I wonder if the build was done by a "non TH-camr" it'd be done by now. Also it's no where near as complex as Binky.
Badly fitted carpet trumpet over that shifter would be a standard British Leyland look
Add a huge quantity of rust holes for the complete package
Carpet Trumpet is my new band name.
@@AdamJRichardson looking at your photo, it really does but you.
Best wishes Carpet Trumpet.
@@AdamJRichardson I won't judge your preferences.
Your new band name provides a graphic indication of your sexual preferences.
That's 👍
@@AdamJRichardson dang it that means it can't be my pr0n name :(
That engine bay is a work of art, Adams skills are unreal.
Though... there seems to be some room behind the engine (1:28), maybe better weight distribution would have been possible by installing the engine a bit further back. Seems kinda nose heavy.
@@pffyespffgearbox dictates where the engine goes in relation to driveshafts. Unfortunately it’s just not possible to but it wherever you want 😊
@@FabCoUK Fair enough. Still, with a different engine-box combo or maybe by tilting engine back it could've been potentially a front-mid engine car, with better driving properties.
Has anyone anywhere put this much time and effort (and money) into making an Allegro this cool? So looking forward to seeing and hearing it out on the road 🙌
This and retro rides.
Only the recent Retropower Allegro builds (influenced by this car 😘)
Could think of a better sleeper..the allegro is such an ugly motor..can’t understand the costs and time to make a fast allegro, even worse imagine doing a marina 🤢
@@ianwatson3315 The Marina coupé isn't a bad looking car IMO - when it came out (I remember it) it seemed pretty cool. Honestly! It's only the fact that it turned out to be such a terrible car that its styling is tarnished by association. It would make a fine sleeper! Total floorpan transplant obvs...
th-cam.com/video/29NnP3sirWg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pkUCdH4_2PzniOqg
Can’t wait to see the sleeper in action but I’m equally enjoying the ‘journey’ of this build. Well done Adam and Jonny, great progress 😊
YES !!! The Allegro Type R! Good to see it back on the channel.
Love the engineering going into this build. For anyone thinking of upgrading to the biggest brakes don’t forget to have clearance for wheel weights. Had clients forget about the addition thickness and wonder what the clicking noise is.
Use balance beads...
Shifter option 4
Honda CRZ shifter and cables. One of the cables needs shortening by about 10mm on the gearbox end but other than that, works a treat. That’s what have in my K20 Honda Jazz with fn2 gearbox.
Nice update,Jonny! That interior will look clean. One day it will be ready together with the Retropower Allegros and we'll see an Allegro trackday. 😉
It'll be an All-aggro track day.
My Aunty had a purple one, with white vinyl interior, back in the day.
Horrible thing.
I recall as a child getting the back of my thighs stuck to the front passenger seat when I got into it on a blazing hot sunny Summer's day, wearing shorts.
18:41 I agree…just got my Mk2 GTI on the road with some hidden track bits…even with the sport seats spirited near track day driving is tossing me everywhere… can’t imagine those fine Allegro seats being much better.
I limited steering lock to save a wide wheel from connecting with a modern gear box. Makes no difference driving at speed. Only frustration is parking, but it is so entertaining that a few extra back and forths is worth it. Can’t wait to see this run…love this build.
Jonny I hope I see you out and about locally in our area. Really want to see this car. Bet it’s faster than my mums 1979 chocolate brown Allegro. Think it was a 1500cc😂. How my sister and me hated being picked up in the “crap car” as we called it. Fabco are bloody fab. ❤
Gorgeous car, you must be so chuffed with how this is coming along. good luck with the rest of the build, looking forward to seeing it finished.
Really chuffed. After quite a few years of dormant activity, and then being misinformed about what to do (then companies promising to do things and never doing them) I can see true quality and progress that matches the original dream!
The attention to details is mindbogglingly amazing! Beautiful work!
Great to see you back at Fabco, I’ve,been following this and their wedge shaped project.
Amazing progress and what a ⭐️ Adam is. This is really inspirational 👏🥇
Thanks dude🤘🏻
Man, that is so fuc*ing cool. Love the way everything runs parallel in the engine bay, and mega clean. And not swaying from your original vision. Love it. Also, Adam has got way more comfortable, engaging & informative in front of the camera.
I love that total sleeper look,
That’s gonna turn some heads.
But not too many!
I think you need one Recaro Pole Position trimmed in the same way as a track day seat. With some nice mustard coloured harnesses
This is an awesome project! Time to get a bucket seat covered in the same fabric as the allegro seats.
Looks great. The only concern is the very short length of the flexible part of the upper rad hose. It doesn't look like it will accommodate movement in the engine without transferring forces to the rad.
Damn was just thinking today we hadn't had an update on this for ages!! So awesome to see, hats off to you Jonny and Adam. Dream team.
To get 15" wheels on my EP3 Type R I had to sand the calipers slightly. People were wrong about it not being possible.
It's all coming together nicely now. Well done Adam! This is one of those projects where I can't wait to see the end result. But I'll be equally sad when it's all over. Oh, and the seat fabric is absolutely perfect 👌🏻
Making good progress. Adams skills and attention to detail are amazing. Can't wait for this to be finished.
Can’t wait to see this machine moving out in the wild .
It’s great to hear an Exeter company getting a mention. Don’t forget HEL for braided hoses- brakes, oil and larger hydraulics.
I'm 100% doing this to my rusty 240Z, great video, thank you
I would LUV to see what Jonny would create with a HUGE budget! This build is very cool and is not breaking his bank (I hope!)
I think the budget for this build is already huuuge
Look at the Allegro projects over at RetroPowerCars. Those are pretty much open cheque book projects.
@@ThibauTMAgree, just had some jobs done on my Westfield. New cam belt and water pump plus some investigative/ECU work due to an overheating issue. All now sorted and it’s running great but that was £1800 gone very quickly. New stainless exhaust was £750 so it quickly mounts up. The kind of custom work being done here must be costing a fortune but it’s great to watch 👍
Well, I'd say when it's finished it will be a 70k car, so that's a pretty big budget! 😂
Nice one Jonny. It's always great to see the diriment parts of the jigsaw pieces being made. Fitting some of those pieces together certainly shows some progress. Many thanks for sharing. It may be some time away from an initial start but it's certainly looking a tad closer.
Back in the early 90s, when I was doing my A levels, one of my classmates had an Allegro. Normally I'd have been jealous of anyone with their own car but... well... I was ambivalent. Until I heard that one of the wheels had just fallen off while he was driving it. Then there was no envy at all. Great choice for a sleeper! Very much enjoying these!
great series of videos. It's:
a) exactly how this sort of conversion should be done
b) really eye-opening how much effort goes into making something look original
c) clear now why people don't do this often
This is a build I am very excited about and you have no idea how much I've been looking forward to the updates on the progress. Keep them coming.
Great to hear!
Cannot get enough of this project - love the progress!
Cheers v much!
@@TheLateBrakeShower..... Progress.....!?!?
.... Just my tiresome, tedious, repetitive joke, Johnny..... nice to have SOMETHING to do on a Sunday afternoon.....!
Seeing this cars paint detailed for the first time was when I really became intrigued about seeing the finished article. The engine bay is looking like a beautiful bit of craft. It’s my mission to come see this car when you hopefully want to show it off one day.
Thank you v much. We hope to display it and drive it in many places in 2025
Looking forward to it
Super COOL... Adam is a platinum Chap!
Cad has come a log way since I started 3d printing is great I sketch of paper draw 3d then test using a computer ( FEA CFD ) then modify, 3d print test and then make it has saved me so much time and money ( cockups ) Freecad and Kicad ( electrical) all free and very powerful Currently I wring up a bike drew the frame in cad ( 3d exported to 2d ) then positioned the components on the drawing wire length then designed the loom in Kicad wire size etc parts ordered love Cad a scanner is the next purchase !
The only build that can compare is of the Bad Obsession Motorsport Mini. Amazing job Johny!
It'll be fun when it's done... This feels like a restomod build dragging its' heels through axle grease!
I vote keep the wheels black. Awesome progress, great update. Loving this build 👍🏻
Awesome project this, the engineering behind it is next level fellas
Thank You Johnny & Adam.. Coming along nicely.
This has become as exciting to watch as project Binky from BOM.
It will be exciting to see the result of the build 😎👍🏻
The Allegro badge really needs to be redone with a red capital R in it I think. AllegRo. Subtle detailing.😊
It's really starting to come together now. 👍
Beautiful and methodical work there 👍
Will be interesting to see how it handles on the track, its a real work of art, looking forward to seeing it finished.
Pressing the bell against the knuckle!
I've run into a lot of similar things building my NA Miata. The further you go down the path of pushing the limits of what people have done, you find that you need to create your own solutions (often starting with a bit of carboard or a 3D print).
Good work! 👍 It's been interesting to compare your project to the Honda/Allegro builds going on over at Retropower. Similar general specifications, but two very different approaches. I have to say your car is much more in my budget range. 🙂
Best Aggro episode for a while. Excited to see this progress!
Can’t wait to see this move! Love the concept idea of this car. It just works
Hi Jonny, great show, and I can't wait for the Allegro to be finished. One concern I noticed is the top hose looks great but no room for flex, no matter how well you tie in the top torque reaction mount for the engine it will always move a certain amount.
This is one of my favorite builds. Makes me want to do something similar with the car my mom had when I was a kid: An orange '78 Mazda GLC wagon with plaid interior.
Thank you. You totally need to do a Mazda Mom spec project.
Absolutely love the thought process behind this. 😎
All I’d say is be wary of the clearance (or lack of it 😄).
My GT3 and previous ones have so little clearance if a decent sized stone finds its way in it jams and grinds a lovely groove into the barrel of the wheel. 🤦🏼♂️😄
I dare say if it hit that transfer pipe it could split it. I’m sure it will be massaged a bit further though, as Adam says.
Top work anyway. Super attention to detail. Exactly the type of details I’d want on a build. Even the non bucket seats. But yes… you’re definitely falling out of those on track. 😂
Looking forward to the next episode. 👍🏻
PS. That T7 gear is making me want a Honda engine to put in something. Lovely stuff. 😎
Near Project Binky level packaging there! Looks like there’s room for a heat shield around the cone (with a rubber seal to the bonnet), and some ducting.
A great project. My own Allegro has been sawn in half and will have a metre long extension welded in - tricky enough but I’m confident that it will make a lovely little limo.
It will mostly likely be painted in a non-metallic black.
Hopefully it will be the most distinguished looking Ausin Allegroom on the road.
I hope you cover the gaps around the fan brackets it's incredible the difference in cooling with a full shroud, sucks the cool air directly through the rad rather than all over the place
I had a Vauxhall Firenza I shoehorned a Rover V8 3.5l into. That shifter up the road quite well,, and it looks like this is going too also. Nice fab work 2x👍
Bloody hell Jonny. This thing is absolutely next level. Hate to think how much money has gone into it. I hope it’s finally on the road soon.
this is shaping up to be absolutely insane. So excited to see the end result but enjoying the process
Son of Binky right here, with even more bracketry!
Did that thing ever get finished?
I got bored with it a few years ago
@@procatprocat9647 Binky is still a work in progress. The boys have been busy (if that's the correct expression) with the dash, switchgear and other bits and bobs over the past year. Unfortunately, other than an occasional update through Patreon there does not seem to happen much at BOM central. No update on the Escargot, the MG or any of the other projects that are in the pipeline. To be continued... 🤞
Jonny epic build. Been following since the start
Hopefully the square steering wheel will give you a bit more knee to wheel room . The mock up wheel looks tight to your legs unless you can lower the seat height
Adam and local expertise business helping this build fulfil your dream build.
What a sleeper this is going to be
If you need power steering, check out the electric (EPS) used in Fiats. It sits in the column just below the switchgear. No engine bay compromise. The 169 Panda is similar size to the Allegro so Panda EPS should do the job.
Heater blower could be given a fan speed control knob. Just put it somewhere suitably Allegro.
The madness continues! What a car this will be.
Great progress. Can’t wait to see it on the road.
This is amazing, can’t wait for next and see this in person!!
Looking good, some Cobra RS (RSRs are a bit on the "tight" side, I have a set in a car) trimmed in suitable brown vinyl with the super bright fabric inserts....I'm imagining the Recaro strobe style material used in the old school JDM stuff but with the Austin text & flying L logo...that would be epic. There are some decent aftermarket shifters out there too, I bought a copycat one from eBay & swapped all of the bearings, fixings & with a few machiing tweaks it's been bang on. Very cost effective.
Speak to James at Driftworks about seating choices on track days , he did the Drift Matsuri at Anglesey in his Hilux using the OG bench seats and it didnt go swimmingly IIRC 😬😬
Oh, really? We shall ask...
Good work on dry build and then paint. Make sure after dry build you give it some serious shakedown driving then once all the niggles are sorted tear it down and paint. Premature paint is danaged paint.
Dry build will hopefully be done this year, then we can rebuild painted before spring. Or sooner!
@@TheLateBrakeShow greqt just make sure you thrash it before the paint tear down. Something will give you trouble. Find it before paint.
I've been hooked on this project from day 1 and I've been on your case a few times for more content etc on it and I'm sure there's many in comments saying, "Come on Jonny, we want to see it ripping." Infact as typing, I'm thinking in my head, my last project, a Jensen took me 9 years to do. LOL
That's gonna be such a cool car when finished. Love it!
Honda do make a fantastic gear shift feel, even on a lowly jazz it's still a joy
This is a fascinating project/process to watch.
Can't believe you never fitted it with the almighty 2.2 Prelude Vtec. Austin prelegro. Believe yeah ❤
ep3 type r owner and i have the same heater matrix water pump parts on mine...exceptional parts if your worried about engine movement, look at tegiwa engine torque dampner i see the rad is tegiwa and they make great stuff.
i HATE Allegro;s but i LOVE this project, been following since the start and can;t wait for updates! The quality, vision and execution are awesome....well done!
I do like the fax it's just two guys having a chat you do that well
Nice running into you at Le Mans, keep up the great content!
Id love to see your bucket seats with the same check pattern and brown surround that would look really trick 👌
What an amazing bunch of guys, it's looking awesome 😎
Cheers v much 🤘🏽
Hell yes… the details, so incredibly cleanly built. Wow. Go CarPerv!
Such a cool project, can't wait to see more progress! The front end looks like it's got very little castor angle? May just be the viewing angle though. I'm guessing it's going to have to go through an IVA test given all the major changes? Would be great to see the process for that when the time comes.
Good luck with the rest of the build!
Love the concept of this sleeper. Can’t wait to see it done with all the details coming together!
Couldn’t you fabricate a spacer to lift the original centre console up enough to clear the shifter?
I faced a similar challenge getting Boxster wheels under stock beetle wings.
Chasing mm's by grinding clearance on the beam was totally worth the extra steering lock.
Best car project on TH-cam. Hope to be doing the same in an allegro Vanden Plas because I’m posh.
✊🏽
Looking forward to seeing this finished, will the Allegro DLS have a cage?
Love it, Adam is a genius, can’t wait to see it burn a boy racer at the lights. 😂😂😂
Was searching TH-cam for an update only 2 hours ago!
It's your lucky day...
I heard you can use the shifter from a CB7 90-93 accord and that will work for the shifter, a lot more low profile but a lot harder to find. Rover 600 might work too.
This build is flipping awesome 👌. Have you watched 'kiwi ev adventures' allegro build!
It's a must watch( not as great as yours!) But very interesting
Kiwi EV Agro is glorious. Really enjoying following that one ourselves.
I love those London bus fabrics seat covers
I get the feeling this thing is going to be a lot of fun!
Absolutely Fabulous Job so far
Gettting closer! Also, the caliper was mounted upside down.
Beautiful engine build and subframe. Needs perspex panels really... ;)
If the pipe really is as close as it looks, you may be within the range of fouling with different wheel tolerances. I found that with my sleeper - I *had* to retain the original 13" wheels but wanted to upgrade the brakes. I got sufficient clearance with the first wheel I tried, but not all the wheels!
In the end I had to take a flap disc to the brake caliper, which would be a real shame in your case!
Jonny! Just get recaros in matching upholstery! 🤣 You're going to be on the passenger door the first time you turn right!
It wont be an OEM solution, however a no cut Hybrid racing shifter would be much lower profile and allow you to use the Allegro trim. You would need DC5 shifter cables to go with it i believe.
