We are raising a small yak herd in North America, Utah at 6,000 feet. They fit in so well with this land and love moving and walking in the mountains. They are resilient animals.
Yes! This story is true across all cultures. In USA people also worry about losing a traditional occupation without preparing for an uncertain future. Stay safe. Thank you. My great grand father fed his people from making buggy whips. Good job. Now - no buggies so no market for whips. This person died bitter.
I've really enjoyed this beautiful documentary, but I have one question: Was the narrator mistaken in saying the village was at 1,300 feet elevation above sea level? This being the Tibetan Plateau, shouldn't it be more like 13,000 feet above sea level?
The Yak (Poephagus grunniens) is a large cattle native to Central Asia, it is the second largest living cattle species, the second largest living bovine, and the second largest living bovid in the world, it is the only extant species of the genus Poephagus and the closest living relative of both the European Bison (Bison bonasus) and the American Bison (Bison bison), the scientific name of the yak means "grunting grass-eater" in latin, there are two recognized subspecies of yak: the Himalayan Yak (Poephagus grunniens grunniens) and the Kunlun Shan Yak (Poephagus grunniens kunlunshanensis).
This species of yak also lives in northern New Mexico, in the Ortiz Mountains near Truchas (and probably other places in the Rockies, too). I think they were introduced by ranchers decades ago. I really hope I get to see them on one of my hikes.

The land they lived on had no grass for the yaks. How did they survive? I'm very curious
25:27 Plz read it as in meters not in feet. Average elevation is around 4500 meters or almost 15000feet.
Most grateful with Love ❤️🌸🙏

I am amazed at how did she took Yaks from Himalayas to Switzerland ❤
May be I am wrong but said several times 100s when it sould have been 1000s?
hilarious well done
Their meat is amazing..
All this is filmed years before the recurring floods that brought Ladah to its knees.
Indian occupied J&k have very stunning views 😍.
Ne amma Puku in kuda India occupied that’s why so beautiful
Yak looks like hybrid cow's, European jarsi cow's.
Perhaps the yaks are decreasing in number because the young generations don't want to herd in altitude, and not because of global warming ...🙄
Too much of slow motions.
If Indians herds, then they are poor. But if west herds then they are civilized lol
Yak running 😂
