You have dedicated your precious time in the Himalayas to show the world how beautiful life can be without owning a house or land. You remind us that what truly makes a home is family. While we often get caught up worrying about material possessions, your work inspires us to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of life. I also encourage you to explore my district, Sirmour, in Himachal Pradesh. Our Hatti community has a rich history as one of the largest kingdoms in the Himalayas, with roots linked to Jaipur. The Gujjar culture here mirrors that of the Bakarwals and Gaddis, who take their buffaloes to the higher Shivalik mountains during summer. Additionally, the Dodra Kwar area of Shimla, nearby, is another hidden gem worth showcasing.
Really tough life conditions but Happy people... surprisingly youngsters don't get job opportunities after education...hope the community is getting due share in the development efforts 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks "India in Motion" for Videographing the Bakarwal Nomads of JammuKashmir for the larger Audience ... In JammuKashmir we have another beautiful Nomadic Community called "Gaddis" as you have mentioned in the documentary... These local indigenous communities add much beauty to the cultural landscape of the region.. In these fast changing times and due to depleting forests, urbanization and industrialization, their space is shrinking fast.. These communities should be supported to preserve their centuries old culture and traditions.... Thank you❤🌹🙏
Bakarwals, especially, comes from a group of Gujjars and Awans who migrated to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) from the Hazara Division of Bharat (Now Pakistan) in the 20th century. In Himachal Pradesh, call him Gujjar. And, most of them live in the districts of Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, and Una. . Thanks, INDIA IN MOTION & Saravana Kumar for showing the Beautiful life journey of Bakarwals .... Love from हिमाचल प्रदेश ❤❤❤❤
When their parents migrated from the hazara region, at that time there was no Pakistan. It was the part of undivided India. Stop doing Pakistan Pakistan
I am a linguist and so excited to observe the mixing up of Punjabi in their language, aling with their lovely culture despite the extremely difficult lives !
Everytime I see your videos, i get so involved in it that within few minutes I feel I'm also right there physically present in that place. Awesome! Thank you 😊
The coverage of Bakarwal Shepherds provides insight into their lifestyle, demonstrating how they handle challenging situations. Thank you for your immense efforts. This channel is any eye opener.
I had the opportunity to trek to Tarsar lake and interact with the nomads called bakarwals Or gurjars. Their life style is so close to nature. even a tablet of paracetamol or a pair of socks is a precious gift for these simple community. A kid in their hutments was sick with fever they brought her to our tent amidst the hailstorm. She had high temperature, I gave her PCM and antibiotic. her father came in the morning and thanked us that the kid and family slept comfortably. I wish to go to those placed again. The sky was so black at night that after 30 years I saw that sky is still full of stars but we do not appreciate them in cities due to light.
Beautiful and very informative video ❤, keep up your great work with the heritage of Indian Himalayas 🙏.. one very touching line was- 'small kids, both with 4 legs and 2... ', depicts such a harmonious relationship between humans and animals 🙂
I really enjoyed watching this video about my Gujjar-Bakarwal community. It beautifully captures how, despite India's journey through modernization and progress, our people still hold onto their unique way of life. The deep mistrust in government promises and urban living reflects years of unmet expectations, but it's inspiring to see how we find happiness and satisfaction in our own world of struggles. It’s a reminder of the strength in simplicity and the value of preserving our traditions.
Bahut dhanyavaad for this splendid video documentary on the Bakarwals! Having lived 6 years in Kangra district of Himachal and having had contacts to Gaddis, it was great to learn more about commonalities in their nomadic sheep-herding ways of life. Incidentally, the name for the mountainside dwelling "kota" is similar to "kota" in Finnish meaning hut or teepee. Cordial greetings from the "Uttara kurus" Northland!
Awesome work Saravana, your work will be seen by many through a long time..this is discovering India.. your documentary is better than of National Geographic and Slice...
What a fantastic video! The storytelling, narration, and capture of both nature and people are outstanding. It's clear how much effort you put into filming these beautiful scenes and understanding the culture. Glad to see it featured on India in Motion with such a detailed documentary.
So many beautiful moments. The image of the children smiling at the camera will stay with me for a long time. As a reminder to smile more often. You and your videos are a balm to the soul, Saravana!
During covid I visited your channel , Since that time I am big fan of your content ❤ I really want my ist number favorite channel one day 1 million 🎉🎉😊🎉🎉 Lots of love ❤ From punjab ❤

Your hardwork n perseverance shines through in this documentary, every second of is worth the long wait 👌. Thank you 🙏.
Saravana you have done a great job in documenting the summer season of these people. It is a pleasant time after sharing the road with impatient drivers and thieves. The drone shots of the Machail road and group crossing the river are superlative! So interesting to see how well they handle this hard outdoor life. The wool board needs to assist these people!
Mr. you make wonderful video documenteries of the Himalyas.. Being from south India your effort seems commendable. I think you have passion of hiking.. Too much remote and isolated areas that you cover are soul soothing
Thnku for this documentary. I heard or read that gujjar Bakerwal are same they're just divided on the base of work. My grandfather was also shepherd but he tried to give best education to his children. Now we are in city and preparing for competition exam. And my ambition is do something for my shephard people. Like australia Shepherd. How they're modern and leaving peacefully, need training, need education. It's should be a profession so everyone join happily. Like other countries hope
What an excursion documentary about BAKARWAL their way of living rather surviving This documentary is full of predicament pathways valleys rivers moreover their makeshift bridge Funny how our perception changes in to another gear when we see the real hardworking people of this planet I have every reason to applaud your heroic work and hope to see more in the near future
Grazing animals in these pristine grasslands isn’t just about tradition; it offers unique advantages. The natural vegetation in these areas enriches the chemical composition of their milk, curd and ghee, making them richer in nutrients and probiotics compared to those produced in lowland regions. This natural, nutrient-packed diet is a gift of these high-altitude pastures, contributing to both health and heritage. Truly fascinating and worth preserving!
You are a one man documentary film maker! Kudos to you for a wonderful documentation of a way of life which a lot of us think is very romantic and charming but in fact involves a lot of hardship. What really struck me was the fact that now due to changes in the governmental set up the Bakkarwals are compelled to dump their precious commodity of fine wool from their sheep ...... I sincerely hope that someone in the local administration who has decision making capabilities can reverse this trend by making sure that a fair price is paid for the wool and that all their supply is bought. Thank you once again for producing such an informative and in depth video - I know it has taken months of hard work on your part to get this together. My best wishes are with you as always and do keep making this kind of content, as it is unique in the TH-cam universe!🙂
Thank you so much Mr.Alok. Hopefully videos like this will bring out more awareness about the difficulties faced by these people. I will also try to reach out to some NGOs that I know and see if they can do anything to help.
Esquire sarvana ji.. You r the master in your field. Hardwork, pain, devotion and narration everthing like Nation Geographical channel. Best dacumenty of unseen hordworking people.. Salute for your matchless efforts.

The way you present it, combined with the soothing background music, deeply touches my heart. I can't resist leaving a comment to show my appreciation for your work. Thank you for filling my day with such wonderful memories of nature. One small correction: regarding the structure built for residing, it's not "Kota" but "Kotha." Thanks again for your amazing efforts!
Thanks for the kind words Rohit. And thanks for the correction.. It is too late to change it now. I should have probably checked the spelling with my friends.
