But why exactly does the body shiver when you are going down the road of cyberpychosis? Was David's Sandevistan activating all while he was shivering? What do you guys think causes those eye shiverings?
Also a common theme in cyberpychosis seems to be thinking about your past. For example, Maine fought about his past when he was a soilder and almost no cyberware.
I think he walked to night city on foot and that is why we saw that road.
And david also sees his past layed on top of the things actually going. The past with his mother.

In the original draft scripts, Lucy had some unspecified dream that David would try to help her accomplish. A lot of the reason it hit so hard for me is bc we rarely get well-made tragedy these days, esp in more mainstream media. The ending is sad, for sure, but it's cathartic. It's a safe sorrow the way that horror movies are a safe terror. Too often stories go for tragedy and end up in motiveless grimdark and it's exhausting.
I once heard a lecture where someone said that the great appeal of tragedy is to see terrible things happen to people you're supposed to empathize with and see yourself in, and that the catharsis comes from seeing someone's life go horribly wrong and still have the author hold your hand and tell you 'this story mattered. even though it had a sad ending it still mattered. even if you don't succeed your attempts matter.' Grimdark tells you that the world sucks and nothing you do matters, well-written tragedy tells you that sometimes the world sucks but everything you do matters so so much, your story is still worth telling even if you never achieve that happy ending or if you lose it along the way. People have inherent value and their stories deserve to be told no matter if they turn out okay or not and in a reality that has no concept of 'fair' that shit just hits good man!!! feels good!!!!! it's COMFORTING (

      @magnumbeef ปีที่แล้ว +7

Well said. I like grimdark to a degree, depending on how you define it, but I think the word you were going for there is "nihilism". And you're absolutely right about Edgerunners--it's a tragedy, for sure, but it is a very well-told one, and it is not nihilistic. That's the thing I love about the world of Cyberpunk, the Cyberpunk 2077 game, and this anime--it is dark, and it shows darkness and depravity for what it is, but it celebrates characters who don't give in to all of that, even if they struggle terribly and don't very often succeed. There is beauty in that kind of portrayal of life.

I feel people want Cyberpunk to be way more cynical than it actually is - and are somehow enjoying this implanted pessimism. But it's not really that bleak... [SPOILERS] Anime literally ends with Lucy embracing the light. Someone seeing that ending and thinking it's NOT deeply optimistic is a bit weird to me.
Also... Despite the quote you shared, most of game's endings are also optimistic. One that is not comes with the game actually booing you for your decisions. Night City is often described as a prison, Lucy even calls it a 'prison of light'. Of course, it's not an actual prison of body, but one of soul. People can't escape it not because it's impossible to just get out of it, but because they are chasing something self-destructive inside of it. For some it's just about monetary reasons so essential to this hyper-capitalist dystopia. That's why every ending that presents characters being able to get out is highly symbolic - they are finally free. If that's not a great closure, what is...
Cyberpunk is not very subtle. Everything it wants to say is fairly transparent, that's why I'm a bit baffled by this forced nihilism.
P.S: Sorry, Bird Boi, this was not aimed specifically at you, but to many-many comments made in this vein I saw on the web. Cheers! ^^

One of the rules of a cyberpunk setting is that life is moving so fast that the characters can't ever seem to find a moment to catch their breath. There's intentionally no downtime in the story as that's part of the setting. In night city people live fast and die young. And yet... underneath that there's a beautiful concept. Yeah that's kind of why imo it felt a bit rushed. Not necessarly that the story didn't come through well enough, but because I liked the characters so much that I wanted to spend more time with them. Basically they only showed us their missions where someone died or something really major happened, while I would like to have seen them just doing a couple normal-ish missions and see them build up their relationships with each other and all of that good stuff (just to be clear I didn't want them to do 2 or 3 more seasons or anything, but maybe 15-20 episodes instead of 10). That being said I still absolutely loved the anime

This show is awesome for multiple reasons:
-Death is not beautifull, it's ugly, you see it from all perspectives
    -Killing have consequences
-In the harshest environment, people can still love each other
-Friendship isn't something that need to be with flowers
-Shooting someone does splash things everywhere, it's not rainbows
-Brutallity was shown in a more realistic manner than "conventionnal anime for all audience"
-Each characters have stories, background and bonds
    -There is a plot
-Porn and sex is shown, but in a realistic futuristic and dystopian manner
But the ost, how the show was made, having some poesy in, while a shotgunn shell blast flesh everywhere
It's mature in the way it is shown.
I love this show, and it make us have so much hope for things to get better

@@tiltedbybox6118 You're entitled to your opinion of course, but in terms of story-telling, animation, cinematography, relatability, they truly hit the nail on this one. I take it you prefer a bit of a cliché happy ending instead of a human one, because that lack of communication on both Lucy and David is truly relatable in human behavior nowadays and is a perfectly placed example of how things could've gone totally different but didn't.
I think saying you "wouldn't recommend the show to anyone and forget it entirely" is highly unfair to such a masterpiece since you said yourself you knew what you signed up for, "I know this genre isn't supposed to end well..". That was precisely their aim with the anime, to have us fully immerse in the Night City experience, hit us with so many different emotions and truly connect with the characters on a personal level. The fact that the ending hurt you, me, and all of its fans this much only proves how great a job they did. Props TRIGGER 👏

In today's society with all the social media that kind of stuff also doesn't happen. Communication is lacking even for the most mundane problems. Or at least that's my opinion on what I see from other people I know.
Additionally Lucy was super scared of Arasaka. Just given her reaction shes was probably paranoid and wanted to handle it herself. That is a common human behavior, to handle things yourself so that the person you care about isn't burdened. To "shield" them from the danger you are aware of instead of asking for help. Is it the correct answer? No but it's a pitfall millions of people will fall into.

At first she wanted to leave from the night city, but after meeting David, ger goals changed to something like saving David From Arasaka(in episode 6, she found out that David is a test subject for the company or something like that) and leaving the night city with him.The moon is merely a symbol of her desire to leave where she is right now. So,in the end, nobody's dreams came true.
