      I'll try to be gentle, but I swear, _ALL_ of what I'll say here is stuff *all NFL fans saw.* 1) "The Bears _had to_ order Fields to not throw to certain receivers on certain plays to simplify the offense for him because he can't read defenses."
      Take that up with Brett Kollmann th-cam.com/video/QuhUbISnr8s/w-d-xo.html. Since one can't _unlearn_ how to read defenses, we now have No Possible Excuse for Eberflus to keep calling for Fields to not throw to open receivers.
      Yet he kept doing this for A Full Year despite that he never needed to. I have just burst 3 separate things you all thought were Fields' fault in one fell swoop, A) that he needed the offense simplified, B) that he cant read defenses, & C) reminded you all that "he holds onto the ball too long" was what you all started saying _AFTER_ Eberflus ordered him to not throw to open receivers.
      2) Eberflus acted like a total nut-job *for **_WEEKS_* after calling these plays, chop-waving his hands at reporters who Dared Ask Him About these plays as if he was threatening to spank them like an angry father if they wouldn't shut up.
      3) After week 7 of '22 Fields called out his coaches, publicly yet diplomatically naming no one specifically. The next 3 weeks the play-sets were 70% or more Different Plays & Fields led the NFL in offense proving it *was* the play-calling holding him back.
      4) These same plays were used in weeks 11 & 14-17 of '23. Notice that again, the Bears' offense was Way Better. So we have a 100% correlation between the 8 games where one play-set was called versus all 22 of the other games started. Even here you mention they won 5 of their lat 8 in '23.
      If your contention is that Getsy called the bad plays, why tf did Eberflus allow him to reinsert them *for a **_full YEAR_* between week 10 of '22 & week 11 of '23? If Eberflus Is Competent, explain just that. Do I _have_ to point out that this first streak was _after_ Fields called them out, that they changed everything *only **_because Fields_* drew attention to it?
      So what we have here is an HC who either can't see good plays when they happen in front of him or would rather the team lost using His Plays than win using anyone else's. Which one makes you think this team is in good hands? Another alternative was that the bad plays were designed to undermine Fields & that he won't use them now Caleb is here.
      Again, _this_ makes you feel confident in him? As for Waldron, he inherited Dave Canales' system & got incredible additions like JSN, Bobo & a great receiving RB Charbonnet & never got the run game going & achieved far less with far more receivers with everyone saying they used JSN incorrectly All Damned Year. Even assuming Waldron will be calling plays, what good is that if he clearly doesn't know how to use players correctly or call successful ones, or Change Anything when he realizes the ones he's calling aren't working?
      So who are you expecting to call effective plays?

    People criticized the Tory Taylor pick but I think it’s important to think about it in the context of what team he played for in college and the new kick off rules.
    Taylor was an essential piece of the Iowa Hawkeyes team last year. Their lack of offense put a ton of pressure on their special teams and defensive units. Most of their points last season came from the defense being given great field position from Taylor and being able to force turnovers
    With the new kick off rule accuracy is much more important than power and hang time. You want a guy who will be able to consistently drop balls within 5 yards of a spot. Taking a punter now also means that the Bears can have him grow up in this new style of kicking rather than teaching him to kick traditionally at the nfl level and then making him rethink his entire game part way through his career

I still think Getsy sucked, but he deliberately called a shitty, pedestrian, tank-ball offense with play calls that had absolutely NO situational awareness. If I'm right, then the Bears did a good job at rebuilding. I'm still glad Getsy is gone, though.

    5:53 You'd have to do this same "turnover points removal" thing for every team to come up with an "adjusted points allowed". Very likely the Bears would not still be 10th in points if every team got the same adjusted treatment. Teams also go much more conservative offensively when they're already up big, which boosts the bad points allowed ranking the bears had, too.

    I'm a huge Bears fan and I at least agree with the summation of the video which amounted to a wildcard game and a quick exit as the ceiling. The primary issue for the Bears is a lot of if's ands or maybe's. Will Caleb play up to his potential from the get go or is it going to take time? Will the offensive line improve, especially the middle of it. Will the defense be able to get pressure on the QB? Will that young secondary continue to improve? All of these things are up in the air and it's extremely unlikely the Bears get the benefit of positive results across the board. I will say though, that if the middle of that offensive line isn't squared away it's going to lead to a lot of negatives.

      @kylekamins6034 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed. I think its safe to assume that this team is going to need 2 seasons to mature to its full potential. But as described in video the chances of sustaining our record and floating over sinking are higher for sure compared to what we had when we first had during the Justin Fields era. I imagine that Calebs season will look similar to C.J. Stroud’s season as he took a bit to start cooking. Will Caleb be as successful as Stroud? Probably not, but if all the gears turn smoothly, we could see something interesting this season.
      Like you said, it’s all up in the air!

    • @umphfr3ak
      @umphfr3ak 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If the secondary and d line are the same as last year, at worst, and the o-line improves just a little the only question would be how does Caleb work in Waldrons system and is that system any good.
      Otherwise, with an easier 2024/2025 schedule, and the same defense and o-line as last year, there's no reason why the bears can't win 8 -10 games.
      Don't digress on defense or on the o-line and they should be able to squeeze out a few more wins. It's simple, though easier said than done.

And getting an iowa punter is a great idea because he's obviously good at his job because him and the Iowa defense are always bailing out that terrible offense, but I'm thinking the Bear's offense won't need him to be an amazing pointer because they will have much better production.

      Better than Detroit. Even with Houston. Houston has made some great pickups. Everett is a beast.
      That being said, there will be a lot of growth from the young, talented secondary. Edmonds was hurt most of last year, and he will breakout back up to his top level of play for Buffalo. Dexter will break out. Waldron will run a fair amount, plus K Allen will help move the chains. Plenty of long drives will rest the defense. Many fewer 3 and outs with Waldren's offense. Tory Taylor will also help the defense by pinning the opposing team deep. Think how he helped Iowa's defense?
      Eric Washington DC will greatly improve the dline. Miminmizing their lack of quality and depth.
      Waldron will have training wheels on Caleb the 1st half of year, letting the defense carry the load. Plus the 1st 10 games are with mostly bottom half offensive teams.
      The Bears will play the whole year on defense like they did the 2nd half of last year on balance. Top 5-10 defense.

    I think you're misconstruing the "paying good players" argument. The burden is having to trade for and then pay good players. It's not like they are a free agent signing or extension through the team that drafted them. Having to give up draft capital (which is probably the most valuable asset every team has beyond the ones with top tier QBs) and then give up a significant portion of cap space is the issue. Not simply "paying good players". Love your content but I think you know that.

    As a long time Bears fan I was really bummed about Fields leaving. I was extremely high on him all his career with them and I was stumbled about not paying Fields, yet paying people like Sweat and others. However, you make a good point that Caleb will be on a rookie contract and you get to steal Keenan Allen. I'm staying optimistic and saying they will go 10-7 and barely make the playoffs.

    It just looks like that every year where the Bears will win the Super Bowl but then at the end of the season, they are usually there with six or seven wins and looking to rebuild for the next year. But hey, as long as all the tickets get sold, that’s all that matters.

  • @dbeast03
    @dbeast03 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This Bears D could end up carrying for a year, but we ALSO need to keep in mind that this Bears team LOST THEIR DC early last year. The improvement was insane between getting healthy and getting staff settled and getting Montez Sweat.
    The offense? Well if the slight improvement last season is any indication, they needed the influx of talent, but ditching Getsy should work wonders. If Williams is even mediocre, that offense should be OK, because the line is (at least theoretically) improving, and every else is DEFINITELY improved. Glad to hear the Getsy hate all around.
    It's not impossible to see this team fall apart, but the last 8-9 games trended up, and it's not unreasonable to see continued growth on both sides of the ball . . . which even a bit of improvement puts 'em in the playoffs. A 7-10 team that plays like their 9-8 level second half really only needs to grab one more game while staying SLIGHTLY healthier at RB/QB. Though tough, this team really does get to build up to the end of the season.

    I think the Bear's hype is real! I think they will finally have a 4000 yard passer. I think a lot of lessons were learned with how they failed Fields, and that shows not just by getting Caleb weapons but they've bolstered up their defense too. I can remember thinking their roster was laughable I think 2022. But I think they have a chance to compete for the division depending if the Packers n Lions play as well as they did last year, but sleeping on your Vikings would also be silly because I think Darnold has potential to play at a high level.
    I think Caleb will have growing pains but I think his it factor will show through and his ceiling will be very high.

At the end, it comes down to QB play and they have a rookie, no matter how good they are and they are a year or two away from making the playoffs. Cant use the Stroud argument as what happened in HOU was an anomaly. Could Williams have a Stroud-esque season, sure, but highly unlikely.

    I think a wildcard spot is more than in play for them. I doubt they’ll win the division with Detroit and Green Bay, but I don’t think it’s hard to imagine them sneaking into the 7th seed. 4 divison winners, then I think it’s safe to assume the Packers, Rams, and one of the Eagles or Cowboys, depending on who takes the division are the only real likely candidates to make the wildcard, and I don’t think it’s impossible for them to sneak in due to them beating the Packers, or the NFC East wildcard just collapsing.

    There is a reason the Bears haven't had a QB that has been outstanding for decades. This team simply doesn't seem to know how to develop a draft prospect. Also, the idea that just because a player is a high first round draft pick, that they'll somehow just automatically become game changers in the future only occurs about half the time. With QB's, that percentage goes down to about 20-25%.

    If Bears win less than 10 games and or miss the playoffs it would reasonable to consider it a failed season. With all moves they made this off season , if they had kept Fields you would expect them to win at least 10 games. Especially when you consider keeping Justin means you could have gotten more with trading of your first pick. So anything less than 10 wins and or a playoff spot is a failed season.

    Well the fact of the matter is the Bears have had a QB curse since after ww1 and the only reason they won in 1985 was there defense being god tier and then created perhaps arguable one of the greatest tactical football plays in history, leading sacks etc etc but the best QB’s ever seen for offense in the bears? Was in the 1920’s and 2018 with Jay Cutler…simple put. I do believe Caleb is the answer we need and Eberflus did show flashes of competence in the end of the season last year and with the first win from a second string QB rn in the preseason. I think the bears this year are the best they have ever been arguable and the best we have seen on the offensive side. Just wasn't in a great situation with a below average o-line (they were for sure bottom 1/3rd) and probably one of the 3 worst O-coordintor / play caller in the league. Tough to tell how good someone really is when the 2 most critical aspects you'd need to succeed in the league as a QB are an awful combo. Even if the Bears o-line was average, how bad would they have looked if Fields didn't break off 20yd runs at will? Its hard to believe a 9% sack rate (which was 25th worst 23/24) would be better with anyone else at QB, so their #'s are probably way worse than meets the eye.
