Sorry to be blunt, but that it pointless. The whole purpose of a NATO strap is to save the watch when one spring bar breaks. This strap doesn’t do that, so you may as well wear a two-piece fabric strap.
Nato design singularly was to prevent the entire watch slipping off through loose fixed bar lugs that were common back in the day. That's the only reason for the extra strap and loop. There's a documentary about it.
@@Ipeacocks Nope. You need that pass through the bottom, otherwise any strap design would still require two spring bars to keep the watch on your wrist. With a normal NATO, the strap goes all the way around your wrist, and would stay on whether you had a watch attached to it or not, which is how 1 spring bar is enough to save the watch. The one in this video is basically turning a NATO strap into the same behavior as a normal two piece strap without being two pieces. Granted I don't think people have to worry much about spring bars coming loose, but all it takes is one time. Another benefit of the NATO is that the pressure amount and direction on the spring bar is pretty constant, which also means it's less likely to have wear and tear that can cause a spring to come loose. With a 2 piece strap, the strap uses the spring bar like a rotating hinge. With a NATO, the strap is generally just resting on the spring bar and putting some downward pressure. NATO's also don't just have one layer, but two, one above the spring bar that passes through and above the other spring bar, and one below that which passes under the spring bar. This is why if one spring bar comes off, the other one is still held.
I guess I am failing to see why someone wouldn’t just buy a normal 2 piece strap that looks more finished since you removed the whole reason of using a NATO which is to have a fail safe if a spring bar breaks.
One of my favorite features of NATO straps is that you don't have to remove spring bars to install them. So easy to change to a new strap every morning. Would love to see a version which can pass right through, without having to remove that one spring bar
This defeats the purpose of using a Nato. Nato straps are tool straps to avoid your watch from falling off your wrist if one of the spring bars is busted. Makes no sense.
even on a Nato strap, if one spring bar is busted, you would still have another one to temporarily hold onto your watch. A Nato strap wouldn't stop the watch from flying off the end where the spring bar is busted.

Criticism of the NATO strap is totally unjustified. Cutting the extra strap defeats the purpose of keeping the watch away from the wrist to allow ventilation and lessen sweating. Also the watch can be stowed by reverse looping and it provides substantial cover for the front and back of the watch when kept with other items in the bag or pocket. It's the ultimate utilitarian strap.
So what’s the point?! Why not just get a regular thick strap? Excessive length, bulky wrist width, and still failed like any other single pass strap. On the face of it, it's a, cool idea but when I think about it, it doesn't really make sense. We use NATO style straps in particularly rough environments and have to put up with the wierd loop and keeper at the side of the wrist as a, trade off for keeping the watch on your wrist if you lose a spring bar. There's no real point in having that awkward looking piece if you're not going to have the protection. It's better to buy a good standard canvas or nylon strap as it just looks better. Or, cut off the double pass bit or use an original single pass while still having the safety with a bit less bulk under the watch. A good quality single pass or a cut away NATO will not feel flimsy at all. What we have here is a strap that's not very esthetic but it doesn't provide the safety. It's basically an ugly looking strap with no real benefit with unnecessary bulk on your wrist for no good reason.
Max, honestly this looks pretty intricate to put on every morning. Maybe needs some practice. It eliminates the safety advantages of a NATO but is still bulky, only flipped the double layer UNDER your wrist. I would prefer an innovative flat strap under my wrist when working in the office. I do congratulate you on the innovation shown here in such an established form factor of a wristwatch. I'm looking forward to giving one a go 👌
I’m going to point out the obvious: this design forgoes the primary advantage of a nato/Zulu strap - if a single spring bar goes, so does the whole watch. I use natos when out on the water.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial honestly, I got about half way through before clicking away because IMHO it was all a little ridiculous. I did see that it was mentioned, but I’d already written the comment and still believe it stands. You can buy a regular watch strap made of nylon for a nato appearance if you don’t want the underpass. The whole thing smacks of solving a problem that doesn’t exist, or if you want to put it another way, solving a problem that’s already been solved but doing it in an alternative and inferior way. No matter how you slice it, I wouldn’t consider the new thing to be superior in any way to any of the alternative old things. And it eliminates the primary advantage of the old solution. No matter how I look at it, the new thing doesn’t have a purpose, IMO. And it specifically eliminates a purpose of the old thing. But hey, the world is full of all kinds. If you can sell something to them, what do I care? I’m not buying it. 🤷
I could definitely see a version without the extra metal keeper at 6 (so you could just slide the whole strap through ) work well for watches with fixed springars like for the Tudor Pelagos FXD. No springbars to break, so it would be the perfect use for your design
I actually do manual labor daily while wearing nice German, Japanese and Swiss watches. I like my watches to be used and aged as functional tools rather than status jewelry . I pop spring bars regularly. I also use my dive watches to dive, and have likewise popped spring bars under water. A NATO is a functional tool for me. This idea is the equivalent of pumping fake motor noise through speakers in a modern Porsche. There will be a guy who loses his Rolex because of this idea.
Folks, check out the Zuludiver Octopod. It is clean, has no foldovers or hangers, and has the convenience and security of a milled bracelet clasp. Please pass on the ribbed straps because they are stiff and a PITA for exchanges. The standard and elastic straps are fantastic. Brilliant clasp concept.
Yooooooo! I just got my zero pass in. I am not a NATO guy. I have always wanted to be and could never find anything that works. Obviously the function of a traditional NATO is out the window, but I am also not storming the beaches of Normandy. It looks and feels so awesome! I will be ordering one of every color and I will be begging for more colors! Awesome product.
I just ordered myself one. Nato straps were designed to be used on watches with fixed bars. Like the legendary Rolex Milsub or the modern day Tudor FXD. So, without acception, these different options are all for people who just want the looks of a nato strap. Therefore discussion about functionality is redundant.
But the point of a nato is security when spring bar failure occurs. You're basically complaining about a crucial feature of a nato as originally intended. A zero pass strap is not that different from a two piece nylon (looking like a nato). I appreciate the effort but this is fixing a non-existent problem.
We're thrilled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with you on this exciting new project! 🙌This design is bound to reshape people's perceptions of NATO straps, without a doubt!
@@WatchCrunchOfficial brooo you're getting destroyed in the comments. Apparently the poor folk who paid months ago have not even received it!!! And your product is crap. It's a sad sad day in the watch world.
I think it largely depends on the watch. I have no problem at all with the double pass on my watches, it barely shows. Also, the fact that it's a bit upward removes the problem of the crown scratching the hand skin : it gives more flexibility to the hand, especially when I am physically active. Finally, I appreciate the fact that I can change the strap without touching the springs.
@@bbuck1bbuck1 Yes. It's a debate on NATO and as the majority seems to not like NATO design, I thought I would share a different opinion and defend it. Don't take it as a criticism or an agression for the project, anyway, just reading at the comments, there is obviously a market so it's going to work. We all have a choice now. Just a gentleman talk, thank you.
I completely see the purpose of this strap, ESPECIALLY for fixed bar watches that have no risk of having a spring-bar failure. Ignore the detractors, Max! The Zero Pass straps have purpose!
I bought the honey Dijon for my Tudor BB pro. Looks great, but the strap is too Short for my 7.5 inch wrist. Yes, I can technically get to to fit… but then there is an annoying tongue sticking out instead of being folded over. It just looks lame like that. People don’t buy a nato to have it *barely fit*, part to the whole look of a nato is to fold the remaining strap under the final keeper. I will be retuning the strap. I really hope they come out with a longer version for bigger wrists so we thicker chaps can enjoy this product too. (Cause I really do like it).
almost flicked away at the infomercial style in the beginning, but hung around and can see it's a decent idea - and good job on sourcing that leather you should probably link the site in the description box
There's a way to mount a NATO strap with only "one" pass underneath without compromising the integrity of the strap. I will try one for "fashion/comfort only" and to support the channel. I also respect new ideas.
You’ve totally removed all the benefits of a true NATO type strap. As far as the so called feeling of the strap under the watch I don’t find it noticeable As far as fitting under a cuff you’re version doesn’t eliminate it either being just as bulky if not more so on the sides. A nato isn’t meant to be worn with a dress shirt.
I would love a zero pass leather strap for the FXD. Would you consider doing removable hardware to make it fixed lug compatible for the future? Look at what Erika’s and Nick Manley designs do for fixed lug compatibility if that helps
Great idea. The problem is you will need strong springbars. My brother who loves NATOs has had his break several times, I had to get extra thick ones for his. You should make long straps for wearing on top of coats and jackets in the winter. It is surprisingly useful here in Canada
Looks great, thank you Max! Agreed, I love the aesthetic of NATO's, and keep forcing myself to try and like them. They're just bulk, not comfortable, and tend to slide up and down my wrist.
🔥 WHAT SIZE LUG WIDTH WILL IT FIT? 🔥 .. Nevermind. 20mm and 22mm. I saw that on your site. I just bought two. Can’t wait. Thank you for solving a problem I can’t believe nobody solved until now. 👊🍻
Very cool design Max and especially love the innovation and creativity! Looking forward to hopefully trying a zero pass on one of our watches soon! Hope all is well on your end and thank you for the great video! All the best, Ben
love those, I saw way too many conent creators use their platform and their new brand to overprice these things very hard. but 40€ for canvas and 80€ for leather is very, very good. I am looking to buy my first strap for my baltic hermetique and look into the more traditional, italian niche, but am sure I will come back to the Pseudo natos quite soon. Congratulations, seems like a well thought through product!
I don’t have any issues with the strap running under the watch on NATO straps. What I don’t care for is the extra bulk created by the strap looping up and back through the keepers which this strap sadly preserves.
Those who don't like the rear strap on a NATO should purchase the RAF version ie same material but one strap, the second strap on the army version is there for a reason as you know ( and mention ) however maybe civvies don't need those requirements anyway..... although your starp is to say the least looks a winner in my book I would be left with the problem I could lose the watch without bar security of the NATO . And of course I would have to pay for it unlike the NATO one given free .......... along with the watch !. One can also wear the NATO as a NATO with no alteration giving a single strap pass feel and height we just set them up differently and slip our hand through the formed loop and then do the buckle up
Congrats, Max! Love the concept and this is exactly what ive been looking for for my Marathon Navigator Stainless Date. Its such a thin military watch and single and double pass NATOs just unbalance it.
The primary function of a NATO strap is to prevent the watch from being lost if one of the spring bars breaks. In this “No pass” system, this factor is lost and we have a watch strap without this functionality. I don’t know if it’s worth it.
Sorry, but all you did is to defeat the purpose of a NATO or Zulu strap. Now if a spring bar breaks, the watch falls off your wrist. Recommend a Zulu strap for one layer below the watch OR the alternate method of attaching a standard NATO that again is only one layer below the watch which also has the added benefit of now moving the strap to the bottom of the wrist versus on the outside, which is just plain annoying.
Very smart and cool solution for a problem for every watch lover who loves to change straps and create more aracter options for their watches I will share your work in my small watch hobby channel 👍

I’m going to point out the obvious: this design forgoes the primary advantage of a nato/Zulu strap - if a single spring bar goes, so does the whole watch. I use natos when out on the water.
did you watch the video? This was mentioned heavily
The whole point of this is having those keepers there for the look.
@JohnnyPhate. Remember that competition is good. The best concept wins. It is what it is.
yeah but the octopod clasp is overly long, too long for many wrists and long than L2L of many watches.
Love this, happy to support you. Just bought two!
@@JimLecinski Clearly, you've never owned one or handled one in person. Your take is blatantly false.
I literally had this idea after buying a Nick Mankey strap and couldn’t believe nobody had done it. Thank you for making this!
Cheers!
Looks cumbersome to take off. I might break the spring bars as I take it off lol. It is a fresh idea though.
I choose any belt type strap like marine nationale, nato, zulu etc for one reason: Safe the watch, so nonsense for that strap.
NATO straps are for not loosing a Watch, this strap will not help with that.
After a few days of having it on the wrist its really awesome!
Awesome product.
thewatchsteward has done the same with the marine nationale straps. Makes a world of difference in terms of comfort.
So cool, I have always wanted the look of a NATO with any of its advantages.
@twostickstraps you guys are a class act through this entire process, thanks so much for helping to bring this from idea to reality!
Hahah but it isn’t a nato anymore
@@WatchCrunchOfficial brooo you're getting destroyed in the comments. Apparently the poor folk who paid months ago have not even received it!!! And your product is crap. It's a sad sad day in the watch world.
I think it largely depends on the watch. I have no problem at all with the double pass on my watches, it barely shows. Also, the fact that it's a bit upward removes the problem of the crown scratching the hand skin : it gives more flexibility to the hand, especially when I am physically active.
Finally, I appreciate the fact that I can change the strap without touching the springs.
Okay well if it’s not a problem for you then you won’t buy it. I mean.
Oh man, this is such a fantastic idea! Impatiently waiting for a version in black. 👍
bruh just get a 3 ring zulu strap. it’s less thick but you still get the robustness of a nato strap.
Lol. I've had my spring bars fail and the nato strap has saved my watch from just obliterating itself from my stupidity.
Lol I came up with this when I first got into watches, but natos always looked cheap so i never wore them 😅 I didn't realize this was new!
Great minds think alike
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Haha clearly! Good luck with your strap store!
I completely see the purpose of this strap, ESPECIALLY for fixed bar watches that have no risk of having a spring-bar failure. Ignore the detractors, Max! The Zero Pass straps have purpose!
You lost me at Seal Team 9😅😅😅…Defeats the purpose of a NATO strap, good job 😂😂😂
I bought the honey Dijon for my Tudor BB pro. Looks great, but the strap is too
Short for my 7.5 inch wrist.
Congrats man ..Something innovative and practical …
Thanks brother 🙏
Neat! 👏 Kudos on bringing a fresh idea to life. It's definitely more challenging than it seems!
Thanks Nick! Love that we had similar solutions with different aesthetics. The community needs more innovation!
This is so cool! It's a very interesting design. I just got one to put on my Garmin watch.
I use my double pass natos as a single pass, it's simple although I think your idea is a winner 👍
Thanks Jason!
Got mine on the way for my tudor 925 ! Great new option , good price too !
I just chop off the extra loop on a NATO strap and turn it into a pass through. I can never find the design I like on pass throughs.
Totally defeats the intended purpose of a NATO strap……to stop the head of the watch from being lost if a spring bar fails.
This concept is very much like The Watch Steward elastic straps in a more traditional material.
I always cut the second strap. and I always use a single strap - because if I lose a spring bar - the other is holding the watch in place.
I love NATO straps. Plenty of manufacturers sell two piece NATO type bands.
almost flicked away at the infomercial style in the beginning, but hung around and can see it's a decent idea - and good job on sourcing that leather
you should probably link the site in the description box
Good idea!
Why even bother? Just go and buy a regular strap... This defeats the purpose of a NATO strap.
There's a way to mount a NATO strap with only "one" pass underneath without compromising the integrity of the strap. I will try one for "fashion/comfort only" and to support the channel. I also respect new ideas.
You’ve totally removed all the benefits of a true NATO type strap.
As far as the so called feeling of the strap under the watch I don’t find it noticeable
As far as fitting under a cuff you’re version doesn’t eliminate it either being just as bulky if not more so on the sides.
A nato isn’t meant to be worn with a dress shirt.
This is a simple brilliant idea! Might be just the thing that gets me into Natos again.
Hehe, I'm a fan again 😎
Congrats man !!!
I would love a zero pass leather strap for the FXD. Would you consider doing removable hardware to make it fixed lug compatible for the future? Look at what Erika’s and Nick Manley designs do for fixed lug compatibility if that helps
We definitely prototyped it, will keep your comment in mind, thanks!
Yah, more options for the FXD would be fantastic
Thank you for this comment. I was on my way to purchase the grey one for my FXD but glad I didn’t blind fire the credit card trigger!
This is a great idea! Will work great on my thick cased chronograph
Great idea. The problem is you will need strong springbars. My brother who loves NATOs has had his break several times, I had to get extra thick ones for his.
You should make long straps for wearing on top of coats and jackets in the winter. It is surprisingly useful here in Canada
Thanks, good info
Looks great, thank you Max! Agreed, I love the aesthetic of NATO's, and keep forcing myself to try and like them. They're just bulk, not comfortable, and tend to slide up and down my wrist.
Exactly!
The infomercialesque format was a bit cheesy, but I ordered a Ron Burgundy for my 14060, and a Slate Grey for my son. Best of luck to you!
🔥 WHAT SIZE LUG WIDTH WILL IT FIT? 🔥 .. Nevermind. 20mm and 22mm. I saw that on your site. I just bought two. Can’t wait. Thank you for solving a problem I can’t believe nobody solved until now. 👊🍻
Let's go Harry 😁!!
Very cool design Max and especially love the innovation and creativity! Looking forward to hopefully trying a zero pass on one of our watches soon! Hope all is well on your end and thank you for the great video!
All the best,
Ben
Thanks for the support Ben!
love those, I saw way too many conent creators use their platform and their new brand to overprice these things very hard. but 40€ for canvas and 80€ for leather is very, very good. I am looking to buy my first strap for my baltic hermetique and look into the more traditional, italian niche, but am sure I will come back to the Pseudo natos quite soon. Congratulations, seems like a well thought through product!
Appreciate your kind words!
damn that looks so good it makes me want to get a speedy just to put it on a leather nato like yours
😉👍
Mazel tov on the new straps! Much success!
Cheers!
From the inventor of the siv without holes and the bowl with holes...😂
I don’t have any issues with the strap running under the watch on NATO straps. What I don’t care for is the extra bulk created by the strap looping up and back through the keepers which this strap sadly preserves.
interesting design but curious why this is superior to a normal 2 piece strap?
because it's one piece ;)
They look great Max - best ideas are always simple! Be good if David (at ST) could ship direct for your UK customers - is that a possibility?
Yes I will talk to him about this if the launch goes well
Very cool. Thanks for putting this up.
Imma just make them like this so I don't have to waste my money on your company 😀 thanks fir the design.
You get it!!!
This is clearly addressed in the video
Thanks! Just ordered
Very smart and cool solution for a problem for every watch lover who loves to change straps and create more aracter options for their watches I will share your work in my small watch hobby channel 👍
Thank you my friend!
Damn. Nick Mankey Designs Hook Strap.
I'll have to send Nick a message!
