I guess I am failing to see why someone wouldn’t just buy a normal 2 piece strap that looks more finished since you removed the whole reason of using a NATO which is to have a fail safe if a spring bar breaks.
Although I agree with you, I think some people may just want the nato look without the added thickness.
Was gonna say this. Looks like NATO but has none of the functionality. Good luck w/ your product - I’m sure there’s a market.
Sorry to be blunt, but that it pointless. The whole purpose of a NATO strap is to save the watch when one spring bar breaks. This strap doesn’t do that, so you may as well wear a two-piece fabric strap.
But one piece strap can solve the problem with losing one springbar. Doesn't it?
Nato design singularly was to prevent the entire watch slipping off through loose fixed bar lugs that were common back in the day. That's the only reason for the extra strap and loop. There's a documentary about it.
This is like trying to get into the drivers seat in a car, but from the trunk.
One of my favorite features of NATO straps is that you don't have to remove spring bars to install them. So easy to change to a new strap every morning. Would love to see a version which can pass right through, without having to remove that one spring bar
Without upsetting, its perfectly possibly to do a zero pass with a normal single pass nato
@@kbeightyseven1783I'd imagine you'd need a longer strap, right? I'm not sure how I'd do it with a standard single pass NATO.
Quick release spring bars would only add a few seconds to the process if you did it every day or so and got good at it
Soooooo you made a longer strap to just loop it differently making it less secure. This isn't that great of an idea
This defeats the purpose of using a Nato. Nato straps are tool straps to avoid your watch from falling off your wrist if one of the spring bars is busted. Makes no sense.
It’s for aesthetic and balance, not for the purpose of a nato. If you are a purpose-driven enthusiast, you won’t want this strap.
So basically you remove the intended functionality of the NATO and just focus on aesthetics. The antithesis of what a tool watch is all about but hey look, it’s thinner!!
I had a spring bar snap off on a field excursion . My NATO saved my watch. NATOs aren’t about “ the look.” They are designed to save your watch in rugged outdoor activities. It was never designed for desk divers.
@@user-tx4wj7qk4t Due to the springbars, I have had my cheap seiko come off my wrist twice at work and hit the floor. If I was wearing my nato on those occasions it would not have fallen.
You lost me when you said it didn't do the function of what the Nato strap was designed to do but keep the look.
Bro said “what if I ripped off a CNS Paratrooper strap… and made it worse?” 😮
Also, patent pending means nothing from a legal standpoint until it’s awarded.
I love how easy it is to change nato straps for different looks, I love knowing that 1 missing spring bar won't drop my watch, but these aren't essential for everyday. I do congratulate you on the innovation shown here in such an established form factor of a wristwatch. I'm looking forward to giving one a go 👌
Very cool. For me though, I like NATO and MN straps because they remove the negative space between the spring bar and the case that you get with a leather band and some bracelets. This isn’t for me, but well done!
There's already 2-piece Nato strap out there
Nice one Max, this is a great option for those watches on the thicker side who love the versatility of a NATO. Well done, I hope the sales go well. I'm certainly interested.
This sacrifices function for form, i guess it depends on which one is more important to you.
Hawkrigger "Grappleband Fixed Bar" is a very similar concept and eliminates the excess fold over for those that dislike the bulk.
Lol man, this is literally a copy of the Grappleband with just different hardware.
The point of this Zero Pass is keep the NATO appearance once installed, but without the buck under the clock.
This Grappleband, the CNS Paratrooper strap, the "RAF strap"... avoid the bulk, but don't have the same appearance of the NATO strap - after all people buy NATO strap due their look.
Just received mine today. Have to say this is pretty amazing. I am impressed. Good job!
I would love a zero pass leather strap for the FXD. Would you consider doing removable hardware to make it fixed lug compatible for the future? Look at what Erika’s and Nick Manley designs do for fixed lug compatibility if that helps
We definitely prototyped it, will keep your comment in mind, thanks!
Thank you for this comment. I was on my way to purchase the grey one for my FXD but glad I didn’t blind fire the credit card trigger!
Not a fan of double pass natos. Single pass are amazing however. I think the beauty of a nato is being able to keep your watch safe in case of a spring bar failure.
Well you could always just sneak a piece of thread inside both parts the zero pass strap at the springbars.
The Watch Steward has been making a strap basically like this for ages. It just doesn't have the loop keepers and instead has an MN clasp. But still, pretty much the same thing.
I was thinking this. I’m all for more cool options, but nothing has been “invented” here. A pre-existing idea has been adapted to apply to NATOs 🤨
I just got my honey Dijon nylon in the mail and I LOVE it! I’m using it on my white dial Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition. It’s a perfect match. The mustard strap matches the faux lume on the hands. I had completely given up on NATO straps even though I love the look. Even a single pass feels weird on my wrist. I don’t care that the zero pass loses the feature of staying put if you break a spring bar. I don’t worry about that with my other 20 rubber, leather, and metal straps. In 50 years of wearing watches I’ve never had a spring bar fail. So why would I worry about it with this one? Max, you’ve created a total hit. Way to go!!!
This is a great idea! Will work great on my thick cased chronograph
Lol. I've had my spring bars fail and the nato strap has saved my watch from just obliterating itself from my stupidity.
Oh man, this is such a fantastic idea! Impatiently waiting for a version in black. 👍
so when will you come out with a version that works on fixed bars? anything in the works?
3years+,you say?? I took my strap to a tailor's,had it cut and sewn. Took like half an hour.
I may be a genius.
Fun idea! It looks like you took the single pass NATO strap and widened the inner loop to allow the hand to pass through. The tradeoff from a practicality standpoint is reasonable (just look at any standard watch strap and if a spring bar breaks the watch will fall), but I think the fact that you have to slide your hand through before tightening (as opposed to just slapping it on your wrist) makes this more of a difficult sell (Apple does this with their elastic bands, but now there is the added complexity of tightening it down). Could you have achieved a similar aesthetic result (and I guess conventional result if we're considering the weight distribution) with a conventional 2-piece fabric strap by just doubling the layers?
It has the downsides of both the nato and a normal strap! I'm not sure I see the point in this
We wanted to keep it to one piece and retain the nato aesthetic. There are more additions than just lengthening the strap if you look closer ;)
1. There are single pass natos
2. That way of using a nato defeats the purpose of a nato strap.
3. If you still want to use a nato with 0 pass, there are 2-piece "nato" straps and you don't need that 2-layer strap on each side of the watch.
Why would anybody go for this design beats me...
Seeing how you respond to legit criticism with solid points tells us a lot about your maturity man
Max, honestly this looks pretty intricate to put on every morning. Maybe needs some practice.
It eliminates the safety advantages of a NATO but is still bulky, only flipped the double layer UNDER your wrist. I would prefer an innovative flat strap under my wrist when working in the office.
Most of my NATOs wear good and fill the space under the lugs, so the watches sit very well (better than with single layer straps).
I think I recall a similar strap technique (with leather) at a 1940s vintage watch I got offered in Switzerland about 25 years ago. Interesting you had the same idea now.
Colors and designs look great and prices are ok too (my NATOS are between 12,- and 200€)
Wishing you a perfect start!
Very cool design Max and especially love the innovation and creativity! Looking forward to hopefully trying a zero pass on one of our watches soon! Hope all is well on your end and thank you for the great video!
All the best,
Ben
Looks cumbersome to take off. I might break the spring bars as I take it off lol. It is a fresh idea though.
They look great Max - best ideas are always simple! Be good if David (at ST) could ship direct for your UK customers - is that a possibility?
On the face of it, it's a, cool idea but when I think about it, it doesn't really make sense. We use NATO style straps in particularly rough environments and have to put up with the wierd loop and keeper at the side of the wrist as a, trade off for keeping the watch on your wrist if you lose a spring bar. There's no real point in having that awkward looking piece if you're not going to have the protection. It's better to buy a good standard canvas or nylon strap as it just looks better. Or, cut off the double pass bit or use an original single pass while still having the safety with a bit less bulk under the watch. A good quality single pass or a cut away NATO will not feel flimsy at all. What we have here is a strap that's not very esthetic but it doesn't provide the safety. It's basically an ugly looking strap with no real benefit with unnecessary bulk on your wrist for no good reason.
Wait so do we have to remove spring bar every single time when wearing the watch?? Can someone confirm please
Totally defeats the intended purpose of a NATO strap……to stop the head of the watch from being lost if a spring bar fails.
Very cool. Thanks for putting this up.
I’m going to point out the obvious: this design forgoes the primary advantage of a nato/Zulu strap - if a single spring bar goes, so does the whole watch. I use natos when out on the water.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial honestly, I got about half way through before clicking away because IMHO it was all a little ridiculous. I did see that it was mentioned, but I’d already written the comment and still believe it stands. You can buy a regular watch strap made of nylon for a nato appearance if you don’t want the underpass. The whole thing smacks of solving a problem that doesn’t exist, or if you want to put it another way, solving a problem that’s already been solved but doing it in an alternative and inferior way. No matter how you slice it, I wouldn’t consider the new thing to be superior in any way to any of the alternative old things. And it eliminates the primary advantage of the old solution. No matter how I look at it, the new thing doesn’t have a purpose, IMO. And it specifically eliminates a purpose of the old thing.
But hey, the world is full of all kinds. If you can sell something to them, what do I care? I’m not buying it. 🤷
Neat! 👏 Kudos on bringing a fresh idea to life. It's definitely more challenging than it seems!
Thanks Nick! Love that we had similar solutions with different aesthetics. The community needs more innovation!
Love what you’ve done here. Any plans to make a thinner version that will fit a pelagos fxd?
anyone know the model of the white Seiko 5? Straps look great, love many of the combos
I've actually worn my NATO's with cheap spring bars so I had that reason. :D And sure enough, a bar did fail once. I didn't even notice.
almost flicked away at the infomercial style in the beginning, but hung around and can see it's a decent idea - and good job on sourcing that leather
you should probably link the site in the description box
Would love to have a version of this where I didn't need to remove the 12 o'clock spring bar.
This is a simple brilliant idea! Might be just the thing that gets me into Natos again.
We're thrilled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with you on this exciting new project! 🙌This design is bound to reshape people's perceptions of NATO straps, without a doubt!
@twostickstraps you guys are a class act through this entire process, thanks so much for helping to bring this from idea to reality!
@@WatchCrunchOfficial brooo you're getting destroyed in the comments. Apparently the poor folk who paid months ago have not even received it!!! And your product is crap. It's a sad sad day in the watch world.
Have you started shipping the Zero Pass Straps yet? Placed an order on 12/8 and wanted to see if they'd arrive by Christmas.
Just ordered my grey zero pass NATO. Would love to see a navy blue option down the road 😎
Ok, but the purpose of a NATO is to ensure even if one lug fails the watch is not lost. Doesn’t this mean you lose your watch now if not side fails,
Thanks! Just ordered
Can this work on fixed lugs and what size would u reco for 19mm fixed lug watch?
Got mine on the way for my tudor 925 ! Great new option , good price too !
thewatchsteward has done the same with the marine nationale straps. Makes a world of difference in terms of comfort.
The thing I like about the nato is that it puts material between wrist and watch. This stops sweating and sticking. So I simply use the single pass over the back of the watch and the bulk goes under the bottom of my wrist. Best compromise.
But nice alternative design. Well done.
I think it largely depends on the watch. I have no problem at all with the double pass on my watches, it barely shows. Also, the fact that it's a bit upward removes the problem of the crown scratching the hand skin : it gives more flexibility to the hand, especially when I am physically active.
Finally, I appreciate the fact that I can change the strap without touching the springs.
Okay well if it’s not a problem for you then you won’t buy it. I mean.
@@bbuck1bbuck1 Yes. It's a debate on NATO and as the majority seems to not like NATO design, I thought I would share a different opinion and defend it.
Don't take it as a criticism or an agression for the project, anyway, just reading at the comments, there is obviously a market so it's going to work.
We all have a choice now.
Just a gentleman talk, thank you.
Will this come out in the 18mm? Just ONE case of many, I imagine there are a lot of seagull 1963 owners that a) don't mind paying for accoutrement more expensive that the watch and b) could really use a zero pass on that thick case for 38mm.
Max crunchy brother hey with that material what do you think about putting a deployment clasp on it kind of like the orias almost like a nylon NATO but more like a braided nylon leash you've seen the Oreos with a deployment clasp think about it I would purchase one from you also make the band uniform no taper and in a 20 mm for those of us who often switch bands between watches
Good idea, but I really wanted to retain that Nato aesthetic on this one!
damn that looks so good it makes me want to get a speedy just to put it on a leather nato like yours
Congrats, Max! Love the concept and this is exactly what ive been looking for for my Marathon Navigator Stainless Date. Its such a thin military watch and single and double pass NATOs just unbalance it.
I use my double pass natos as a single pass, it's simple although I think your idea is a winner 👍
Lol I came up with this when I first got into watches, but natos always looked cheap so i never wore them 😅 I didn't realize this was new!
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Haha clearly! Good luck with your strap store!
I just chop off the extra loop on a NATO strap and turn it into a pass through. I can never find the design I like on pass throughs.
The marine national is the perfect rugged watch strap. The watch sits low, it's super secure and it has a classic look
You lost me at Seal Team 9😅😅😅…Defeats the purpose of a NATO strap, good job 😂😂😂
Very similar to a Marine Nationale as in putting the spring bars over the strap and feeding your hand through less the single pass of a MN..SUPERB invention love it....
This is so cool! It's a very interesting design. I just got one to put on my Garmin watch.
I love this. But the shipping to Australia is far too expensive. $66 AUD just for shipping
@@WatchCrunchOfficial do you understand the concept of exchange rates?
Congrats man !!!
This concept is very much like The Watch Steward elastic straps in a more traditional material.
This literally serves no purpose... If you lose a spring bar, you can kiss your speedy goodbye...🤠
Max, the next stage is one where there is no removal of either spring bar. This is possible and fairly easy I think. Good job on gen1 though!
This could already be achieved by simply removing the lower keeper that normally would keep the watch head from falling off the strap when it's not on a wrist.
Which of course in this case is purely aesthetic and has no function.
So cool, I have always wanted the look of a NATO with any of its advantages.
I do like the fact that the watch strap isn’t resting on the case.
love those, I saw way too many conent creators use their platform and their new brand to overprice these things very hard. but 40€ for canvas and 80€ for leather is very, very good. I am looking to buy my first strap for my baltic hermetique and look into the more traditional, italian niche, but am sure I will come back to the Pseudo natos quite soon. Congratulations, seems like a well thought through product!
Would love for someone to design a nato strap where the “bulk” resides on the underside of the wrist rather than on the side. Especially for a small wrist like mine where you have to tuck the end of the strap in that extra bulk above the 12 o’clock looks unsightly when you’re looking at the watch imo
Folks, check out the Zuludiver Octopod. It is clean, has no foldovers or hangers, and has the convenience and security of a milled bracelet clasp. Please pass on the ribbed straps because they are stiff and a PITA for exchanges. The standard and elastic straps are fantastic. Brilliant clasp concept.
@JohnnyPhate. Remember that competition is good. The best concept wins. It is what it is.
yeah but the octopod clasp is overly long, too long for many wrists and long than L2L of many watches.
@@JimLecinski Clearly, you've never owned one or handled one in person. Your take is blatantly false.
Is there a version without the stitched in keeper? If there was I think it would be a cleaner look and would be much easier to switch out straps (and would fit on my FXD!), I would get one immediately!
This is what I was wondering. How necessary is that keeper? It would be smoother on the wrist without it. I wonder if it’s just there to replicate the look of a NATO with zero pass.
Now I think about it without that keeper it’s just a long single pass. Not patentable and doesn’t replicate the look of a NATO
It gets too floppy without the extra keeper, and I found I had to readjust the overlap throughout the day
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Cool. Well I’m glad it’s functional as well as looking the part. I wish you success with this product
Any intention to make 19mm for Omega speedmaster fois
Never had a problem with the supposed bulk/height of a NATO, and I wear a lot on various watches. As I type this I have a 42mm diver on a leather NATO/Zulu and doesn’t feel tall or “wobbly”
Nice product! However I have a 9.25 wrist. Wear 60mm watch and use NATO now. I like the fact there is not material underneath the watch. Do you make longer versions?
Shoot, man I was hoping this would work on my Bertucci fixed spring bar field watch because the materials look good.
ohh ok cool, it's like a traditional nato mixed with a watch steward. looks great
Hey what model of IWC was that you tried the NATO on? It looked great.
I don’t have any issues with the strap running under the watch on NATO straps. What I don’t care for is the extra bulk created by the strap looping up and back through the keepers which this strap sadly preserves.
Congrats on developing a new design.
Personally, as well as the strap thickness behind the caseback, I hate the visual bulk above 12 o'clock and the keeper below 6.
What are the advantages of this compared to a two piece nylon strap which will look sleeker yet also utilitarian?
Still happy you're doing something new!
Incredibly brilliant!!!
Yooooooo! I just got my zero pass in. I am not a NATO guy. I have always wanted to be and could never find anything that works. Obviously the function of a traditional NATO is out the window, but I am also not storming the beaches of Normandy. It looks and feels so awesome! I will be ordering one of every color and I will be begging for more colors! Awesome product.
Love the straps, I think I'm going to try one on a Glycine Goldeneye but don't know if it should be Ron Burgundy (prob) or Anthracite
Congratulations! Does it come with different length. I don’t like the look of two fold at the end, it was my main issue to go with nato straps. For my BB 58 I ordered the original nato strap
interesting design but curious why this is superior to a normal 2 piece strap?
Great! I would order if there where blacked or titanium buckles.
🔥 WHAT SIZE LUG WIDTH WILL IT FIT? 🔥 .. Nevermind. 20mm and 22mm. I saw that on your site. I just bought two. Can’t wait. Thank you for solving a problem I can’t believe nobody solved until now. 👊🍻
Pretty cool. I'd be seriously down to try one of these Zero Pass straps.
The only thing I hope you change or maybe add to the collection is different hardware. Not a big fan of the Zulu style hardware with the large rings which never seem to sit completely flat against the strap as they can often be a bit larger than they need to be... Rather they can be angled flatter against the strap, but they can also shift to another direction if you know what I mean?
Not to steal your thunder here, but, a similar concept, but, perhaps with the MN strap design in mind with an elastic strap and hooking hardware are straps from The Watch Steward. They are made to order and there are a number of color choices as well as configurations to be made. I personally prefer their "minimalist" configuration as it eliminates one extra layer that their original design configuration has as well as makes it less likely to scratch the lugs with the adjustment hardware on the strap as you're putting it on.
Cool I'll check then out, mine is designed to look just like a nato
Love this idea, is there a size available for those of us with larger wrist? IE: 11" wrist? nevertheless great idea here. thanks for your innovation and bringing it to market.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Please do. I just saw this and was thrilled, then let down to find only standard "up to 8" wrist". At 8.25 I fall only just slightly over average, but in reality it only takes that quarter inch to put us out of consideration. I'm not even that big a guy. Think about really big dudes.. athletes (fighters, strongmen, etc), military, husky, the list goes on. We over average of wrist love our watches, too! Trust me.
I literally had this idea after buying a Nick Mankey strap and couldn’t believe nobody had done it. Thank you for making this!
