The Ultimate Doom, Part 2 | Transformers Generation 1 | Season 1 | E09 | Hasbro Pulse
Cybertron's nearby presence has sent Earth and everyone on it into chaos. The Autobots and the Dinobots have their hands full trying to protect innocents and themselves from every possible natural disaster. Undoing what Megatron has done is a major priority, but so is rescuing Sparkplug. He is currently a Decepticon prisoner on Cybertron, and the Autobots aren't about to hang him out to dry. Spike and an Autobot team are sent out, but Sparkplug is still wearing a hypno-chip meaning more danger than expected. Meanwhile, the Earth-bound Autobots try to stop Megatron.

I love how Snarl, Swoop, and Skyfire all show up here despite them not being introduced yet.
TH-cam's playlist is out of order like in the original broadcast but in DVD sets this episode is after Fire in the Sky and War of Dinobots
The proper viewing order is
1-6, 13, 7, 15, 11, 8-10, 12, 16, 14. Completely jank 😆
They must have mixed up the episode numbers.

The thing is though, Starscream was right.
One of the great things about being a kid and watching this in the afternoon is being innocent enough to not care about things like continuity errors or animation mistakes. And I'm saying that affectionately.
Yeah, from the very beginning with episode one until now, I think I’ve seen at least 10 times where one bar is talking, and the wrong mouth is moving.

So this is where Bay got his ideas for the dark of the moon movie, having the decepticons bring their home planet to earth and having the autobots being kicked out of Earth to get sent to the Sun, but later came back to kick decepticons butts

I honestly couldn't fault Prime for that. He knew Spike would find out anyway, so he was honest with him. Optimus Prime respected Spike enough to be truthful. When you think about that, it's awe-inspiring.

I honestly love the goofy childlike charm of the original series. It's absolutely stupid in both the bad logic stupid as well as the good wacky hijinks of Saturday morning cartoon stupid.

1:41 "My actions may have caused earth it's future." I remember watching this as a kid so long ago, and never putting my finger on what episode it was for all that time. The only thing that was kept in a loop was that dialogue. That was in 1989, and I finally saw this episode 34 years later!!
9:30 Wow, they really tried to shoot down Laserbeak while he's got Spike in his talons? Bold move by the Autobots lol. Imagine having to explain to Sparkplug that his boy got vaporized by friendly fire lasers lol.
I love how in depth this show is. It had a lot of thought put into it. Especially for a show in the 80s. It explored a bunch of new concepts that weren't really a thing back then. It was completly new too. It wasn't based off of anything from what I know.
Well it was technically based on transforming robot toys from Japan that Hasbro bought the rights to and imported to the west, but the entire Transformers story, personalities and factions for the robots and stuff that was applied to the robots was made up by essentially one Marvel comic writer I'm pretty sure. The whole show was designed to sell the toys that came before it, which is why characters would randomly be introduced and phased out, due to mandates by Hasbro in regards to whatever toys they were selling. But the story and concepts around the toy characters was original, so yeah I guess it's pretty much original and only partially based on something.
@@Squishito It's funny how the old franchises made specifically are the best ones out there. The same thing happened with Bionicle and it's imo even better than transformers. The only thing that went wrong was that it was discontinued to work on other projects at the time.

Grimlock's always in it for himself and the Dinobots. But how can they survive a planet blowing up? Prime and Wheeljack are playing on his loyalty to his Dinobots.

As a kid, I always noticed the animation errors in this show. And I am aware that some plots are kind of goofy and nonsensical. But to this show's credit, it also has some solid episodes with great story telling. And The Ultimate Doom really stands out for me. It always has.
You can tell that Megatron likes Soundwave when he tells him to get back at 14:34. With any other Decepticon he probably would've just blasted away lol.

These are not in correct order for we just had SoS Dinobots, and now we see Swoop and Snarl here, as is Skyfire.

Who needs science? Ironhide stops a volcano by covering it with rocks. Earth is being ripped apart by Cybertron's gravity, yet Earth's gravity isn't doing likewise to Cybertron.
They're robots....it would be a lil different....acid rain at times....all I can think of at the moment
In Part 1 of this episode, they cut a hole in a space ship that was under water, and it didn't immediately flood.

Spike is fortunately able to breath on Cybertron (though it does suddenly have an atmosphere with clouds in this episode, for some reason) without any suit or mask, but he does have his construction hard hat on.
As much as I hate to say it, Bumblebee has to be the most jinxed "friend" a human could have. Dude let Shia LaBoeuf get abducted by the Decepticons a second time since the G1 series began.
If there's only one thing the BayFormers movies did halfway right, it was making Bumblebee somewhat badass...
I agree. Considering the abuse Bumble Bee has endured in this show, he deserves to be a more formidable fighter.
But Bee is just a scout, not a heavy hitter.

skyfire was supposed to be named jetfire but due to copyright issues if I recall with the name it had to be changed to skyfire

@@jh302 Macross toy. In fact, in America at least, Jetfire originally prevented Super Valkyrie from being included in the Robotech toy catalog. Hasbro had legitimate rights from one of the mold's distributors (Takatoku) to use the mold.
The most likely explanation for why Jetfire changed is that Takara did not want to advertise other companies' Super Valkyrie molds in the Japanese market, and possibly because they didn't want copyright entanglements with Big West (ie, Studio Nue, the IP-holders for the Macross mecha designs.)

Just finished watching Fire in the Sky/On the Mountain....and thought the same thing....which brought me here. Oh well....probably the only discontinuity in the episodes.
This was SUPPOSED to come after the episode where he was introduced, but the order got changed later on.

Ooh, there's a switch... Prime ordering a retreat for the first time. I always wondered what Sound Wave's power was. It proves that Sound Wave, above most other decepticon's, has the ability to be able to beat the Autobot's on his own.

I've been enjoying these episodes a lot but they sure are a great exercise in suspension of disbelief
Cybertron has an atmosphere. They showed it several times. So, cooling spaces with air would still be efficient.
I guess so nothing would overheat
I always considered the Ultimate Doom three parter and it's aftermath episode Countdown to Extiction as the perfect season one finale rather than Heavy Metal War.
It way too dramatic and the stakes are definitely sky rocketed.
so everywhere I look, the episode order is right. I can only conclude that Skyfire, Swoop and Snarl are in violation of the temporal prime directive and can expect a visit from Temporal Affairs at some point; edit Wiki has a production order list. Also: Spike, what part of 'mind control' were you not clear on?

Gotta appreciate how the Dinobots intelligence levels go from zero to 100 sometimes
A few things that would have been better for this episode are the following:
1. The Autobots that go to stop Megatron and the Decepticons (Frenzy will be there) activating the Pylons are the following:
Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Prowl, Hound, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker, Mirage, Bluestreak, Wheeljack, Spike, Bumblebee, Windcharger, Cliffjumper, Gears and Brawn and the Omnibots (Powerdrive, Camshaft and Downshift).
Ratchet, Huffer, Jetfire and the Dinobots are at the Ark.
Similar to how Ratchet was betrayed in the comic book majority of the time.
2. Rumble and Frenzy are with Dr Archervile when he has the human on the operating table.
3. Buzzsaw and Ratbat help kidnap more humans for Dr Archerville along with Laserbeak.
Buzzsaw and Ratbat kidnap the two workers from the plant instead of Laserbeak.
4. Rumble and Frenzy come and get the two humans that I mentioned Buzzsaw and Ratbat kidnap out of the electric cage.
5. Now that Cybertron is in Earth’s orbit have Thrust, Dirge, Ramjet, Blitzwing, Astrotrain and Octane help with the transportation of energon cubes to Cybertron.
6. Have Hoist, Grapple, Inferno, Red Alert, Tracks, Smokescreen, Skids, Beachcomber, Warpath, Poweglide, Seaspray, Cosmos, Perceptor, Blaster, Rewind, Eject, Steeljaw, Ramhorn, Springer, Sandstorm, Broadside, Top Spin, Twin Twist, Roadbuster and Whirl detect Decepticons flying to Earth.
7. Wheeljack is with Hound, Bluestreak and Windcharger are there to rescue Spike from Laserbeak and Bumblebee from the Crevice.
8. Have Thrust, Dirge, Ramjet, Blitzwing, Astrotrain and Octane being sent to Eartb to help transport Energon Cubes to Cybertron.
9. This does not go unnoticed by Autobots on Cybertron.
Hoist, Grapple, Inferno, Red Alert, Tracks, Smokescreen, Skids, Beschcomber, Warpath, Powerglide, Seaspray, Cosmos, Perceptor, Blaster, Rewind, Eject, Steeljaw, Ramhorn, Springer, Sandstorm, Broadside, Topspin, Twin Twist, Roadbuster and Whirl.
10. The Autobots that go to Cybertron with Spike to rescue Sparkplug are Trailbreaker, Wheeljack, Bumblebee, Brawn and Jetfire.

Really, Starscream was not dumb, he was very intelligent. He was right quite a few times. They could have destroyed the autobots so many times but megatron always missed the opportunity
