Personally I found the Golden book a bit fiddly. The new edition is much more attractive physically. It feels like a stripped down, more straightforward version of the Godern book. I like it a lot. It is so much more digestable and usable. Character generation seems quite Super. World, Magic World, Future World orientated. What's in, is what works. I was one of the few Magic World reboot fans and this feels like a resource that fits that so well. Laser guns in Cthulhu etc... It's all there. Just great. Let's hope the product line expands. Good to hear it is selling well.

Great interview, thank you! I know it was originally a GURP campaign, but I would absolutely love to see a licensed Malazan book using the magicworld!

Glad I stumbled on this review though it is a bit late for me. I played RQ (1st and second editions) roughly 40 years ago and have not done much RPGwise in the last 30+ years. A week ago I was talking with a friend who said he we interested in playing so I bought the set from Chaosium. I have only reviewed the PDFs however I agree that the system is a little more tied to the setting than I would like. That said, it is not a hard thing to modify the setting and adjust character creation.
It is still a great quality product and system in a great setting.

Why doesn't anyone mention that Superworld was the game GRRM and his fellow writers were playing when they developed the Wild Cards series and most of the foundational characters were from their campaign?

My thinking (as a huge fan, but not a pro) is that for a sci-fi game/setting for BRP I'd find a cyberpunk/minority report/bladerunner style near-future book very useful. I think BRP would match fantastically with the tone and scope of settings like that rather than a traveller/dune style epic in scope setting. Not saying BRP can't do it, just that IMO it'd be simpler to adapt the near future, and not that difficult to extrapolate to a game set farther in the future. Plus, Traveller itself is a really great game that already has the far future pretty well covered, so why butt heads with that juggernaut (relatively speaking of course)? The darker, grittier tone of cyberpunk seems to me to match well the tones of CoC and Runequest.

Likewise! I just got BRP and I would like to create a cyberpunk world. Some official advice for building cybernetic implants would be great! I did find a fan forum discussing it but a good splatbook would be nice.

I think I had an earlier version of this (Worlds of Wonder?) 100 years or so back. Sadly, my mother threw it out along with so many other relics I had from the same era. ☹️
26:05 - I never realized that Magic World is essentially the old Stormbringer game with the IP removed. I look forward to my PoD copy when it shows up, any day now....I hope that the MW game comes back, even if it has a different name. 🍻

I started migrating away fro D&D a long time ago. The only reason I believe people keep playing it is because so many people know it and don't play enough other games. At my house, you won't find us playing D&D. I will do my best to never play another D&D game as long as I live. I consider it i a very inferior system, pretty much since after 1st edition. I played Elric when it first came out and have owned a couple of BRP games, like Pendragon and Magic World. I really like generic systems because I like making my own settings anyway. I've always liked the simplicity in understanding the BRP system. It's got complexity, but percentile is just easy to do math with. You know instinctively what your odds are. I've also always loved the experience system of usage dictates progression. Actual experience. Want to increase sneaking? Sneak a lot.

I just received my physical copy a few days ago, and it was definitely worth the wait! For me, BRP could become THE one real universal rpg system that covers all possible play worlds and play styles. The basic rules are streamlined and intuitive.
And though the book only has 256 pages, it really has it all, from character creation, skill system, combat rules, different magic and power systems, additional rules, adaptations to all kinds of worlds, to a compact but useful bestiary.
I feel inspired to use it for playing with RQ and CoC, and inventing my own worlds.

I definitely think I’ll try my hand at making a system for kids using this. If you’ve ever played Fate Accelerated that’s basically what I’m thinking but making it my own.

The thought about the price of equipment should given a huge focus as it provides treasure. I put the book away because I can't give a gem the size of hand to a poor character.

I think the cover is rather ugly. I know you were going for a new design on the original, but it looks disturbing and wrong. Original looked waaaay better.
