Your troubleshooting tips were a lifesaver for fixing my mouse issues. I followed your advice step by step, and now my mouse is working perfectly again. Your clear explanations made the whole process so much easier.
After years of working, my MX Master 2s randomly stopped working just now. No signs of impending failure or anything. Searched, found this video, and fixed within 20 minutes. Thanks!
Hi, mngos; thank you for your comment and tip; really appreciated. I am glad you were able to repair your mouse, which hopefully is going to serve you for a few years more. Mine is still working after that repair. Ciao :)
Mine stopped working today and I almost bought a new one for $100, but thought to youtube this issue and came across your video! This fix worked like a charm
Logitech support said: „There is no way of fixing. We are not aware of this issue with this model.“ 5 minutes into TH-cam and another 5 to fix it and it is working again. Thanks for sharing!
i’m not surprised to hear that support didn’t know. a daily digest by email of an automated daily google search for Logitech product issues would fill their inbox with issues like this.
Hi, Klj; thank you for your comment and support. 😊 I am glad you successfully repaired your mouse. After that repair, I am still using mine for one and a half years, and it does not give signs of problems. Ciao
Worked like a charm and only took a few minutes ! thank you very much for this tutorial. It fixed my mouse and now it's ready for 5 more years of good service :-)
Works like magic. Just saved my money. Thank you. I was about to buy a new mouse, only two years after getting the MX "Master" (master disaster). I'm disappointed by Logitech, but luckily TH-cam and good people are existing!
Awesome solution . I almost thought I would have to visit local Logitech , run up and down for them to come back and say sorry it’s out of warranty . This solved the problem in less than 5 mins … thanks a lot
Wow. This is amazing. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! What a simple solution. + the added investment in a comprehensive electronics screwdriver/bit set. Absolutely worth it for anyone on the fence. I wanted to restore my older MX (currently using MX2) and this tracking issue was my only hold up. After loosening the screws, It works as demonstrated. Glad to know if my MX2 starts to get funky. CHEERS!
I spent nearly 1h dealing with Logitech customer service, just to be told I was out of warranty and needed to buy a new mouse. I only managed to get a discount from them to buy on their website. So, I looked on youtube and found this video. Without much hope I tried this, and it absolutely worked. Now I have a discount and my old mouse working 😊 Thank you!
Brother you deserve all the respect there is !!!!!! Thank you so much, the thumb button was stuck and my mouse was 3 years old so I thought of buying master 3 version. You saved me lot of money
Worked perfectly for me. I didnt need the electric screwdriver. Works just as well with a cheap manual one. Thanks for the video. It’s saved me going out and buying another mouse.
thank you, i googled the symptoms of my mx master cursor eing stuck and was afraid it could be the sensor. Found your video and tried your solution. Worked perfectly. Thanx alot!
Loved this video! I panicked when this stopped working for me and I was thinking I had to fork out for a new mouse but you've saved me a whole load of money so thank you ! Great clear instructional video! loved it! Thanks again
thanks a lot for this simple and easy to follow video! My mouse is basically my working tool so I panicked a bit when nothing worked anymore. You saved my working day (and my gaming days)!
Thanks, it totally worked! For anyone interested - it is important to stick the blade under the glue of the pads, so as not to separate the two layers that the pads themselves consist of.
Thanks! The repair worked for me. You asked how people use this thumb button - I set it to simulate the keystroke 'ENTER'. It works nicely when the other programmable buttons are set to Cut / Copy / Paste. After pasting something (mouse) into an app or web page, it's easier to hit the thumb button rather than finding the OK Button on the screen.
Dear you and dear internet, i want to thanks both of u to be amazing af and making me happy to see that my mouse is not broken. it was hard to get here without a mouse and only a keyboard but we did it and now we are way more happier than before
Been trying to get my old mouse to work for like 3 months now. Wish I had found this video before! I didnt have a screwdriver the right size but managed to scalpel my way into the side of the mouse. It's not as pretty as it once was but at least it's working again! Thanks for this!
Perfect fix thank you. This is a glaring design flaw that I hope they have addressed in newer versions, but at least it’s an easy solution. Thanks again.
Hey just want to thank you for posting this. This saved me a trip to take it to logitech shop and pay dont know how much to get it fixed. You're my hero
Thanks so much - I had the same problem and 3 minutes saved me a lot of frustration and money for a new mouse! My thumb button was giving me a hard time before the mouse stopped working as the default action was somehow triggered all the time - I was able to solve that problem by setting the actin to none for that button. However, that did not work when the cursor stopped moving.
Who is the world figured out this tweak. My dead mouse I had sitting around for 6 months and wanted to throw out but didn't cause I loved using it (plus it had just a couple of years use) came back to life just like that; Wow! Now I can put back my old MX 1000 to rest that served me very well but was getting a little worn out. Ooh! just Subbed as a Thank You!
This is amazing and worked wonderfully! If you're like me and you pried open the casing too fast, undoing the connection of the cable to the other part of the case, it's pretty easy to fix. Carefully line up the pins of the strip into the opening on the board, and there should be a white clamp that seals it in place when you place it in all the way, just close that and it should be repaired.
Twice have I done this and twice has it worked, on the same mouse! When it happens once it appears you will have to do this procedure once a year, so thanks for showing it! Update: It broke again, though not the same fault. I've given up and have bought a 3s, hoping it won't be as troublesome.
oh Man, thank you so much for this video!, I had a bunch of phantom clicks, and I basically replaced this mouse with Mx anywhere 3 and placed this beloved mouse in RIP, but now it's alive again!
Thanks, I had both my mice break with the same fault within 2 weeks. had to pick the first one out of the trash when I found your video. I opted to cut that gesture button board out on mine as I never use them and it saves it breaking again.
Just fixed mine for the 2nd time in a year. I never use the gesture button so I'm thinking of doing the permanent snip solution too. Now to find the best way to achieve that.
Excellent, thank you for this guide. I shall be trying the same with mine this evening. As for the use of the gesture button, I do a lot of work in AutoCAD so I had mine mapped to the escape key as in it would cancel whatever command I was working with in AutoCAD at the time. Extremely useful.
Amazing ... my MX Master (gen 1) is my backup MX and needed it tonight because I forgot my 2S at the office. The plastic was all sun-rotted and sticky (a little coconut oil rubdown fixed that) but I wasn't expecting this laser problem. I can't believe this worked ... THANK YOU!!!!!!! My 2015 mouse is back to feeling svelte and clicky again :)
Great video! By the way you can easily disconnect the flat cable between the top and bottom shell by unclasping the the little ivory-colored clamp that is holding it on the circuit board. When you are done, just insert the cable again and press the clasp shut.
Wow, this has worked perfectly on my MX Master. This is crazy.. basically a jammed button stops everything. I had to use an old wired mouse until I buy a new one but i looked up the issue and I wasn’t alone. Thank you for the advice!
Thanks for the detailed video. Needed a $7 toolset from Amazon and was good to go. Logitech were pretty much useless in their support as it was out of warranty, given the amount of feedback here on this video this issue is way too common.
Great video. Mine had 4 screws under the pads. I discovered this by gently pressing the pad with a bunt instrument and where the pad depressed slightly were 2 more screws. Then I peeled back the pads at those locations.
Many many thanks for this one!!! I did however order a new one but since it took longer to get here I thought I might as well try this out and it worked. I use the thumb button for Ctrl+X to close tabs/apps. Works like a charm and now can't do without it.
Thanks so much. This worked also for my MX3 Master. What a terrible design, even worse that the fault hasn’t been addressed and rectified. For 100% sure Logitech know about it 😡
Turning off the button funtion in the Logitech app didn't work for me. Thank you for the thorough directions on opening up the mouse. Loosening the screws fixed it. :)
You don't even have to open the mouse to fix the problem! What I did was just kind of bend the thumb button a bit to sort of loosen it. And then disabled the thumb button through the Logitech Options app. If you actually use the thumb button, you'll have to open it unfortunately. I personally stopped using it; it takes too much force to press it. Thank you for the video, I would never have guessed it was the thumb button that was causing the cursor lock.
im just experiencing this problem today and am glad to see this video although im yet to screw and fix it and happy to see exact similar case and diagnosis, im also a user of the thumb button, i use it for various function like minimize, thumb up for my computer, thump down for lock screen, left and right for copy and paste. i hope im succesful fixing it like u do
A huge thanks! tips: If there's s a problem with this button it may randomly pop up Task Switche!!! Because the default shortcut is Alt+Tab, at first I suspected a virus, so I checked my computer, reinstalled my system even cleaned the keycaps, such a annoying night! You would never know the criminal is the mouse until you Google Alt+Tab+Mouse!!! Now I followed the video to completely fix and clean up (tons of cat hair) I'll be using it for another 5 years hahaha.
Without doing all this job, by the way, thank you very much for the Instruction. I suggest using the Logi software and set "No Function" to this button and magically will start to work again. This worked for me.
I had similar trouble. Did not even know that button existed, after about 7 years of usage. Unmapped it but it was still buggy. This solution did however not work for me, since it seems to be some physical error with that button in my mouse. So I just cut the wire to it (since i've never used it anyway) and now my mouse seems to work properly again. :) Thanks for great video.
THANK YOU! Very happy to not be dropping the money for a new one of these. For anyone in the same situation, bizarrely just unscrewing and separating the mouse top and bottom portions fixed the problem for me. Assume there must have been pressure on the thumb button which was relieved. Also when taking off the pads on the base of the mouse make sure you remove the smooth laminate layer AND the adhesive layer at the same time. I am an idiot and on one end of a side pad managed to get my knife between the layers which then needed superglue to fix it down once finished. Not a big deal and didnt spoil the finish but wouldve been better not to do that!
My left click worked only if I pressed hard enough, and blowing underneath the button didn't fix anything. I ended up opening it, and found that the little (-) shape on the button caved in a little bit of the top part of the plastic above, requiring a deeper click to register. I just put a little piece of tape on it so reduce the distance required to click, it's almost perfect now. Seems like a case of planned obsolescence, why else would they use soft plastic for that mechanism?? It's so flimsy, especially for an expensive mouse! Thanks a lot! If you don't use the thumb button, and are tired of fixing it every couple months, you can unscrew the little green board (don't cut the white cable just in case you want to use it in the future), then remove the thumb button mechanism (is right below the board, with silver screws). Little green board is loose but that won't be a problem. A fixed mouse cursor won't be either!
life saver!!! i have a 2S model and after prying the top cover from the base (a little bit because the 2S has six screws, two of which are torque screws) the rubber cover of the fun-button just crumbled apart! now that the rubber cover is not pressing the button anymore. the mouse works!
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu !!! I had just such a malfunction, and it tortured me incredibly! I did everything as you said and the problem was solved! Thank you very much!!!
Thank you very much for this video - I had the same problem and Logitech Support was completely clueless about it. This thumb button isn't just useless, it's annoying: When being in a game, it will send you back to the windows desktop if pressed by mistake. The only way to get rid of this function is to install Logitech Options, but this piece of software isn't compatible to some games... And tools like 'XMouse button control' can't handle the unwanted "extra button". I never use it and as it's obviously the source of a very common problem that easily renders the whole device useless, I consider it to be really bad technical design. Still, Logitech sells it unmodified to this day. IDK about that.
I cant believe it actually worked, thanks a lot, I tightened it at first didn't work , then I loosened it a little bit then it started working. Glad I saw this video👌😎
Thanks a lot! The fix works, but for me the cursor stopped working again after a couple of hours. The second time I cut the white cable and removed the pcb with the button altogether as I have never used it. Now the cursor works and this exact issue can never occur again :)
This is crazy. One of those things that looks like a complete joke and then you do it and it friggin' works. God, I love the internet. Thank you.
This is the second time I experience the same issue years ago, fixing the same spot, with the same video tutorial. You're a rocket scientist man
Your troubleshooting tips were a lifesaver for fixing my mouse issues. I followed your advice step by step, and now my mouse is working perfectly again. Your clear explanations made the whole process so much easier.

I am glad you successfully repaired your mouse.

I was about to spend almost 70€ for a new mouse. Glad I stumbled upon this video. Now it works again.
Thank you so much! 😊
Just the problem for which I was searching for a solution. I did not want to investing in a new mouse. Thanks for sharing
Worked like a charm and only took a few minutes ! thank you very much for this tutorial. It fixed my mouse and now it's ready for 5 more years of good service :-)

Thank you, this worked like a charm. For anyone needing this, the small screws on top are torx T4
Awesome solution . I almost thought I would have to visit local Logitech , run up and down for them to come back and say sorry it’s out of warranty . This solved the problem in less than 5 mins … thanks a lot

I panicked too ! Haha I am so happy it works now
thanks a lot for this simple and easy to follow video! My mouse is basically my working tool so I panicked a bit when nothing worked anymore. You saved my working day (and my gaming days)!
Like other commenters say; this seems so dumb, but it actually worked. It took me longer to find my T5 bit than it did to fix my mouse. Thanks!
Thanks, it totally worked! For anyone interested - it is important to stick the blade under the glue of the pads, so as not to separate the two layers that the pads themselves consist of.

Just did it today! Thanks for the help, I Can't believe that many people have the same issue.

I have always hated this button and never used it.
This video showed me the exact fix.
It clicks again after being loosened.
Thank you.
What do you want to fix it for if you hate the button and never use it?
@@mollykeane2571 With that button jammed, the cursor would not move. Mouse is basically useless if that isn't fixed.
Amazing.. Worked like charm.. Did it for a friend and he gifted me an ordered toolset. Cool
Twice have I done this and twice has it worked, on the same mouse! When it happens once it appears you will have to do this procedure once a year, so thanks for showing it!
Update: It broke again, though not the same fault. I've given up and have bought a 3s, hoping it won't be as troublesome.
Moral of the story I guess is to be extremely careful with thumb button lol, many thanks dude!

Thanks a ton bro! I was worried that I'll have to buy a new one. This solution is weird but it certainly worked. More power to you and your channel.
Thanks for the detailed video. Needed a $7 toolset from Amazon and was good to go. Logitech were pretty much useless in their support as it was out of warranty, given the amount of feedback here on this video this issue is way too common.

Thank you so much, worked on my mouse & saved me a lot of money and my respect for Logitech
Thanks so much. This worked also for my MX3 Master. What a terrible design, even worse that the fault hasn’t been addressed and rectified. For 100% sure Logitech know about it 😡
My friend you just save my life, I love this mouse, and you fix my MS2!!! Thank you!!!
Turning off the button funtion in the Logitech app didn't work for me. Thank you for the thorough directions on opening up the mouse. Loosening the screws fixed it. :)
My mouse stopped working in the middle of a project- this was a life saver!
You don't even have to open the mouse to fix the problem! What I did was just kind of bend the thumb button a bit to sort of loosen it. And then disabled the thumb button through the Logitech Options app.

Thank you for the video, I would never have guessed it was the thumb button that was causing the cursor lock.
I didn't believe, but it actually fixed my MX master 2s. I wish I knew this a year ago, when I bought Master 3 for that reason...
you came in clutch. I was already shopping for a new mice.
im just experiencing this problem today and am glad to see this video although im yet to screw and fix it and happy to see exact similar case and diagnosis, im also a user of the thumb button, i use it for various function like minimize, thumb up for my computer, thump down for lock screen, left and right for copy and paste. i hope im succesful fixing it like u do
A huge thanks! tips: If there's s a problem with this button it may randomly pop up Task Switche!!!
Just fixed my mouse using the instructions on this video. Thank you!
BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for posting this! Worked perfectly.
Also, opening this for the first time requires pure brute forcing of the shell... I found that pulling the part at 5:12 only worked up to a certain point, I had to use a butter knife in that opening to force it to snap. The rest opened with much less force.
Hi, thank you for your comment.
Unfortunately, while our politicians are pushing toward a greener world, forcing us to keep up with their somewhat meaningless rules, with no plastic and electric cars; the manufacturers move towards unrepairable products which will inevitably end up in the landfills and some take advantage by removing the charger from the new phones.
Simply the world we live in today.
Ciao
thank you very much ! I was able to repair my mouse in a few minutes thanks to your tutorial
A fixed mouse cursor won't be either!
bless you man - it worked - i was just about to shell out a ton of money for new one - you rock
Thanks!
Thank you for the great instructions. Managed to repair my mouse with the tutorial. All i needed was the tiny screw driver kit for 18 €
life saver!!! i have a 2S model and after prying the top cover from the base (a little bit because the 2S has six screws, two of which are torque screws) the rubber cover of the fun-button just crumbled apart! now that the rubber cover is not pressing the button anymore. the mouse works!
Thank you sooo much!! My mouse works again 🎉
Never imagined that you have to go for the thumb buttom to repair the optical sensor.
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu !!! I had just such a malfunction, and it tortured me incredibly! I did everything as you said and the problem was solved! Thank you very much!!!
Thank you so much! You just saved me $180 to get a new one!
You are a saviour!!! thank you. Followed the steps and it worked!
Thanks a lot for such a simple and easy to understand steps.. got it fixed in less than 10 mins..
Hi can you help to provide an explanation of how come there is such an issue and what the above repair does?
ahhhh - this happened to me a week ago and thought my mouse was done. This video saved me.. thanks!!!!!
Many thanks ! I feel so good after successfully following your tutorial. It really worked you guys.
I cant believe it actually worked, thanks a lot, I tightened it at first didn't work , then I loosened it a little bit then it started working. Glad I saw this video👌😎
excellent! thanks, worked for me, be careful lifting up the adhesive pads.
