- Today I am in the beautiful hidden gem village of Battlesbridge in Essex, close by to Wickford and Chelmsford, and only a train journey away from exciting London. In today’s 4K walking tour I’ll be taking along for the ride as I explore all there is to see and do. If you’re looking for a charming, dog friendly, cosy village with shed-loads of amazing antiques shops and independent traders then this is the place to go this winter!
Walk with me as I start out at the famous bridge itself, head over the River Crouch, grab a bean to cup coffee, visit the church, the village green, the four main group of antiques dealers (Old Granary, Cromwell House, Muggeridge Farm and Bones Lane - all with quirky shops in magnificent old buildings) and of course stop for a pint at an amazing cosy pub, The Hawk Inn. I also get to experience Nerd Base - one of the UK’s biggest toy stores with modern toys as well as vintage, rare collectibles and general nostalgia overload (board games, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, retro games, comics, wrestling action figures and so much more!).
Perfect for a daytrip from London, come and see why this historical village is one of the best places to visit in Essex!
If you don’t know me already, I’m Jack and I’m exploring the UK, making travel vlogs as I go. I’d be so grateful for your support, so please do like the video, leave a comment and subscribe to the channel!

Welcome back! Remember to leave a thumbs up on the video my friends. Also if you’re not already, feel free to subscribe! 🎉
Thanks for the video, Jack. I grew up a mere 10 miles from here in Maylandsea on the Dengie Peninsula. A lovely village that has barely changed - not really anything worth your visiting, just a nice place. I never even knew Battlesbridge existed. I doubt I could tear myself away from that toy store, it was a nostalgia rollercoaster. As always, please keep up the great videos, they are a tonic from all the madness happening over in the United States of Trumpington.
Thanks Richard that’s very kind, I’m trying to visit some more places this year that not many people know exist. The toy store was a real highlight. Cheers for the support 👍
I love The Hawk pub!
I really enjoyed it, very cosy
Yes! Jack is back.
Yessss! 🤣🥳
Welcome back Jack. Thanks for the look around, we keep meaning to go there!
Thanks very much John, would definitely recommend a visit
Wow! What a strange and intriguing place!?😮 so many cars, but no people 😂..Never heard of Battlesbridge before untill now. Funny coincidence, on Fri i had a gas engineer in my flat installing a boiler, in S.E. london. He told me he lived in........WICKFORD!! which is right next door to....Battlesbridge!? Bit of a coincidence you have to admit! I didn't really know where WICKFORD was until Friday!😅 You live and learn! Great to see you back, and looking forward to more videos! 😁👍👋🙏I would have left a comment quicker but TH-cam was not cooperating.
Thank you very much Sandra and what a small world it is ha ha! I only knew about this place because my parents used to visit for the antiques but wow what a place 🤩
Another fascinating vlog.. Jack.. ❤❤
Thanks very much mate
Watched a few of your videos now starting with the Ramsgate . I shared a few like that you give good insight and information without being boring and giving me some good ideas for days out !❤😊
That’s so lovely of you to say, thanks a lot. I try to create the videos so that if I was watching them myself I would enjoy them 🤣
thanks, as we drove over the bridge again both of us wondered where the name came from! it certainly is a warren of different outlets, good for gifts
Thank you very much, the amount of outlets in one small area is incredible
Great to have some mind blowing activities, coffee and beers again - was half expecting to see a price tag on the bench overlooking pond. Realised we had seen the Muggeride place on Hotel Inspector and 4 in a bed I think... Certainly might consider a diversion when next other side of the bridge/tunnel
Thanks so much Kevin, I did say a sign actually on that guest house that they did feature on Four in a bed 👍
Yay you're back! Glad you enjoyed Battlesbridge (only a 15 min drive away from us). You should of bought that Squawky though 😂
Thank you! I was very tempted to buy squawky and take him along to every new vlog I do 🤪
Looks good. Glad you enjoyed it, looks a nice visit
Thanks, I absolutely loved it 😻
Great video. I'll have to visit the antique shops there again.
Thanks Matthew!
I'm really excited to check out your video today as soon as it's ready, Jack! Can't wait to see what you've created.
That’s so kind of you to say, thank you!!
ANTIQUES!! I have to go!
You would love it! It’s a small village but everywhere you walk there’s another antiques place
Love Battlesbridge, we stayed in our motor home overnight there and had two days of antiques. Is there still a cafe at the top of the 'Sandcrawler' building?
Love it! There is indeed a cafe on the top floor, the only reason I didn’t go there is because there were no doggos allowed 🫨
I got my skiing gear from there when I went with the school
Oh yeh I saw the ski shop, it was in that old mill by the river!
