  • Penshurst is a historic hidden gem village in Kent, in the district of Sevenoaks situated between Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge wells, so this week we’re taking a break from the usual seaside exploration and instead stepping back in time - I’m taking you on a 4K walking tour so you can see this picturesque wonder for yourself and see why it’s one of the best places to visit this summer.
In this video I start at the edge of the village and walk along the streets, taking in the breathtaking Tudor-looking buildings and houses, the ancient St John the Baptist Church before exploring the Penshurst Estate - the main attraction! Penshurst Place is an iconic 14th century manor house once owned by King Henry VIII, surrounded with beautiful grounds and gardens, and a very popular filming location for TV and films. Afterwards, as always I have a well-earned pint and spot of lunch at the charming Bottle House Inn, a cosy 15th century pub just down the road.
Surrounded with walking paths and country lanes, it’s a perfect place for walking routes or hiking to immerse yourself in the Kent countryside.
This should be top of your list of places to go in Kent, so walk with me as we travel back in time and explore the village of Penshurst!
If you don't know me already, my name is Jack and I'm exploring the UK and Europe, making travel vlogs as I go. I'd be so grateful for your support so please do 'like' the video, leave a comment and subscribe to the channel!

Incredible! Looks very quiet and unspoilt. I'm sure it's used as a filming location, and so close to London! Pity there is no train station, but that's probably helped it stay so unspoilt. Still I see it's not far to the nearest town with a train station. I've hit the sub button now! 👍Cheers!

Thanks so much Sandra and welcome! 🤗 there is actually a Penshurst station but I didn’t think it was worth mentioning as it’s literally around 2 miles from where I filmed this video! 😅

Well you had a look around my village, I have lived here for over 70 years and seen quite a few changes. We used to have 5 pubs at one time but as you found we are now reduced to 3. Penshurst Place has made a lot of changes to draw in more paying customers and the Porcupine Pantry was a working farm back in the 60s. The Forge stores and petrol station was a working garage that my brother and I ran for many years but was converted a few years back to a working shop and Post Office as all the original 4 shops in the street as well as the original PO were slowly closed down. Although it is normally a quiet village you obviously soon found out that we are on Gatwick approach in the high season.

I have just had a week off work and visited 2 of the places you filmed, both were really lovely days out so thank you Jack for your uploads.
We had a day looking around Hastings Old Town Although I have been to Hastings many times, I had no idea it was so interesting if you walk around the old part.
Had never heard of Penshurst but it was a great place to visit. 🙂

Ah that is amazing to hear thanks Sharon, and I’m so glad this video made you think of visiting Penshurst especially as not many people saw this one. I’m glad you had two great days out

@@jackryanmiller I was talking to 1 of the guides at Penshurst House and she said not many people know of it, shame really as it's beautiful. Hopefully more will get to know of it from here on. We are now watching 'Wolf Hall' which was partially filmed at Penshurst House.... so far so good. 🙂Now following you as you are a great tour guide 🙂

    Hi jack
Loved this video. I am old so the history side is always nice to hear without getting bogged down too much with it. Your cappuccino was a good price as well. Nice to see it without too many people around just give it a few weeks and it will definitely be booged with loads of people.
    Thanks, Jack
