We’ll look at what it is, what it does, how it works, what you will use it for most, and some safety tips too. If you’re gonna build props you gotta have this tool.

    You’d think with a video entitled heat gun basics, it would get you who to adjust the heat temp, and how far from the surface to use the gun.

    • @BlackSheepProps
      @BlackSheepProps  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, you’d think with only 2 settings it wouldn’t be that hard. And the video actually shows how far to hold the gun away from the foam. Not sure what you’re not getting?

    Thank you! I like that you showed us what not to do (heating glued seals). I wish you went into details about what settings you used for each technique.
    Do you have any advice about what features are a must or a deal breaker when buying a heat gun. Not all brands are available in Australia, so I’m having to figure out how to tell if a heat gun will do what I want it to do, and if there’s anything I should avoid.

    • @BlackSheepProps

      No problem! I only use one setting - high, which is 1100 degrees. And the gun I have is the Wagner Furno 300. I am m not an expert but I can share what I use for any beginners looking for basic info.

    Hi, is it ok if the electric circuits on the back vent of the heat gun start glowing & emitting electrical bolts for a few seconds after switching to the high setting?

    • @BlackSheepProps

      I do not know? That does not happen with my heat gun. Sorry I can’t help you. You should probably contact the company that makes it.

    What temp is the heat gun set to? I had mine set to 500 and it was taking forever to heat the foam up!

    • @BlackSheepProps
      @BlackSheepProps  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey ML! I think mine is the Wagner 300, it has 2 settings - 750 and 1100, I always use it on 1100 and it gets insane hot! And pretty dang quick too. So hot it melts some of my foam if I hit it for too long. Burned the heck out of my arm in the first week I had it. Haven’t made that mistake again!

    Hello,will the foam go back to its original density and thickness after its heated?

    • @BlackSheepProps
      @BlackSheepProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi!
      The thickness won’t change when you heat it and it doesn’t lose any density either. It actually feels a bit stiffer once it’s heat sealed.

    steve, i'm guilty of lighting one up, or a few, with my heat gun. 😁 these don't emit toxic fumes don't they? i would assume it's similar to a high-powered hair dryer

    • @BlackSheepProps
      @BlackSheepProps  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hahaaaaaa!!! Awesome. I don’t think they emit any fumes? As far as I know it’s the eva foam I use that gives off the fumes when it is heated or burned.

    • @JimmiWazEre
      @JimmiWazEre 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine does too, it's a cheap one off eBay. However as above, I believe this is because the heat is burning off whatever substance is on the inside when it comes from the factory

    Hi! Not sure what to get for my own heat gun soon, in my country the only specs are about 300-650°C. I got a thick a$$ foam that i need to sand out and i am unsure if this kind of heat gun will smoothen it out 🫣💀

    • @BlackSheepProps
      @BlackSheepProps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tsuki! My gun reaches 1100 degrees so it’s SUPER HOT!! If you are just trying to straighten a piece of foam maybe your gun will be enough heat if you point it on at foam for. a longer period of time? Or lay it in a warm place with some weight on top of it. I have also seen many builders heat their oven warm enough and put their foam inside until it gets soft.
      Good luck!
