    Surely its better/safer to trace and connect the two bulb wires to the connectors in the lower part of the head rather than having an exposed ceramic block in a place that gets very hot. I don't think i've ever seen such a awful repair suggestion and would not recommend it!

      This is what I was thinking, surely the heat will eventually melt the connector but I’m not an electrician 😅

      Yes you are right, if you are willing to spent your time and effort. But I did not go into the trouble of opening the whole assembly. I just wanted an easy fix. With the ceramic connector I have changed the bulb twice since, in no time at all as these bulbs are likely to fail because of oil splashes. I still use the airfryer with no problem.

      Hi ceramic connector blocks does not melt and can withstand high temperature. They're designed to protect the wires.

    Thanks just ordered the ceramic connector and new bulb. My brand new tower cooker only used 5 times the bulb just flickered and gave out. Can't be bothered to go through the warranty as a hassle sending stuff back. Great thing about this fix is now if the bulb goes again it's easier to replace with the connector in place. Can't believe they don't come with connectors as this is a replaceable part. Cheers for the video hopefully back cooking again soon. Edit to add In preparation for delivery of the bulb I have just taken out the dead one cutting the wires not too short and I cut off the outer insulation off the dead bulb wires and slipped that over the wires that go into the unit to give those more heat resistance because they didn't have that second layer of outer insulation on them. Now the wires will be insulated both sides of the ceramic connector block.

    Just did this. Took longer to get the screws off as they got stuck. Next time it will probably only take 5 minutes to change as the connection block is already in place. I reused the clips that were on the cooker but kept the new ones just in case. I bought both the bulb and connector on amazon for less than £10.

      I've changed the bulb twice now. I've noticed that after roasting the oven developes moisture if I leave the cover on when the meat cools down. Shortening the life of the bulb. I ensure that the lid is slightly open to prevent moisture. I also place foil on top of the meat if it's too close to the bulb to shield it from splashes.

    Interesting! This would make changing the bulb much easier. As someone else said, putting the connector the other side of the fan plate might be better. Great fix though.

      Fidly jobs on wobbling item simplified by using an upside down lap tray - one with beads - and this stabilises the thing so 2 free hands.

    ...I just got a Galloping Gourmet Cuisine Express 707 unit, like 12 Qt unit. Found it at a thrift store in Tyler Texas, for $7 US. I've never used one, because they were always too expensive. So I couldn't pass up the opportunity 👍
    I cooked a 7 lb chicken in it, it was fantastic 😋
    My unit, uses a induction heater element, I thought all these air ovens used halogen bulbs. Apparently the older units, the first generation air convection cookers, used an induction element. I think my unit is over 10 years old, but it looks like it was hardly used. 🤔
    I'm happy with mine 👍 But I like the way Halogen units light up the cooking area. I might have to add led's or SMD's lights to mine above the glass top,, to simulate the halogen lights 😂

    I have put the ceramic block behind the fan plate by taking out one of the silver screws that holds the next plate (black) in place and adjacent to where the cables come through. The screw will go through the centre hole of the ceramic block and is long enough to secure the block in place and away from the fan, just tuck the wires out of the way and put it all back together. A bit fiddly but worth it 😁

    I've found it best while your are on with the bulb that top fan and the plate below quickly attract rust it should be stainless steel and the fan, they rust that quick due to the nature of how it works so take it all apart for a good clean and score the service to take something like BBQ spray paint and clean up all screws before replacing you will thank me next time the bulb goes Oh and it's a left-hand thread on the little nut that holds the fan on before you chew it up like I did first time trying to get it off thinking the little nut was seized on with heat and wasn't

    I hope this vid will help many of us to fix these ovens....fixing it does not take ages as we were made to believe ...great job👍👍😘😘

      Hi Sofia I'm glad my video has helped to inspire you to fix your oven. The bulb is so cheap that it's definitely worth to fix the oven. Please don't use the plastic connector as it will melt with heat. Please use the ceramic connector that came with the halogen bulb. My oven lasted only for 4 months. Because I use to grill whole chicken or duck in it. The fat from the meat would zizzle and splash oil on the bulb which in turn shortened the ceramic bulb's life. After replacing the bulb I still cook whole birds but I now cover the top part of the bird with a round foil and fix it with toothpicks to protect the ceramic bulb.

    Just changed my halogen oven bulb using your video- thanks! Just one question, I have quite a bit of excess wire from the bulb- where does this go? Is it safe? Thanks

    • @conrad1026
      @conrad1026  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi the wire from the bulb is insulated that can with stand hi temperature. I can mine to length for tidy finish. When cutting the ensure that the outer heat insulation still covers the wire. Or if you don't want to cut you can push the wire inside the round splash guard..

    • @conrad1026
      @conrad1026  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Better to cut the wire as it can get caught in the fan.

    Is that white blocky connector neccessary ? The long-term heating/usage could easily compromise & melt it ?

    • @conrad1026
      @conrad1026  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi, it's not necessary. If you can access the terminal in the whole assembly, you can attach the wire directly. I find it complicated to trace the terminals and opted for the ceramic block connector instead. These halogen bulbs are prone to fail from the oil splashes when cooking and will need changing again. With the ceramic block connector, I can replace the halogen bulb in no time. The ceramic block connectors are designed for these high temperatures and will not melt. I still use the airfryer a lot. Hope it helps.

    I tried replacing the bulb, a 1300w with a 1200w-1400w bulb, but the temp only reaches 250F. Not sure if this would be an issue. I bought the bulb on ali-express, and it does say that power on the bulb, but I'm doubting it. All I did was cut the 2 wires at the bulb, removed, and installed, wired the new one in. Was there more I should have done? Thanks.

    Would have been better to put the ceramic connector on the other side of the plate so it is not exposed to so much heat. The first fan is removed by turning the screw clockwise as it is a reverse thread. Can also see th-cam.com/video/5LZRFx9ubAQ/w-d-xo.html though has limitations showing the wiring

      The first one lasted for about 1 1/2 years, only because I was roasting whole chicken. The fat would splash on the bulb, shortening its life span. The second replacement is still working for nearly 3 years now after I cover when cooking large portion of meat or chicken with a round foil to protect the bulb from oil splash and partially opening the lid after cooking to prevent condensation build up in the cooker
