Its funny you said he was called Suga because he's a ladies man because its a running joke in the fandom that we always say "Yoongi marry me". But his name is actually from Shooting Guard, his position in basketball. He was a baller as well as a rapper, writer and producer.
They get so much hate because of stereotypes. Suga has said he only wants people to give them a chance and listen without prejudice.
The explanation video for this from DKDKTV shows just how clever they are with these lyrics, as well as giving cultural context. :)

Please try to always listen to a live performance over a lyric video. Their "Yet to Come in Busan" concert had "UGH!" and one of their Cyphers, I think "Cypher 3 Killer". So good!!! Thank you!!! 💜

thank you for reacting to my boys. I'm a 54 year old Army girl, I joined this purple world in 2020 during the pandemic, in the summer, where we have a week off here in Japan because of the dead. Honestly, I've never been a fan of rappers, hip -hop even enjoyed the beats at the age of 20, I thought that the rapper's lyrics spoke a lot of nonsense, lol, that's why I was never interested, without wanting to belittle it. But after I met the rapper line of BTS and started studying their lyrics, I fell in love with the rapper, or maybe it was for the boys, anyway, I'm very happy that J.Hope's collab with the great rapper J.Cole is opening doors for both sides of music genres, I'm looking forward to their return in 2025 when the Sete Reis will be back, and I'm sure this return will be at the height of kings, because I really trust the ability of the HYBE team that takes care of BTS's part. I hope you continue on this journey in pioneering the purple world, the BTS world ,and passionate.Have a great day.

Suga loves basketball and his name refers to the times when he played basketball as a shooting guard, whose initial syllables resemble the pronunciation of Suga in Korean.
Suga is from a Korean city called DAEGU and when he was young, in his first steps in RAP, in Daegu he was called D Town. DT stands for Daegu Town. So AGUST D is SUGA D T backwards: AGUSTD = DTSUGA.
Actually, his underground rap name was Gloss. D Town was the name of the rap crew he was in. After BTS debuted, for solo projects, Suga goes by Agust D ( Suga + DT for Daegu Town, spelled backward).
Suga’s name comes from basketball derived from the first syllables of the term shooting guard, the position he played in basketball as a student. He adopted the alias Agust D in 2016 for his mixtape, which is derived from the initials DT for his birthplace, Daegu Town, and "Suga", spelled backwards. Some info: SUGA comes from Basquetebol Suga's position (Shooting Guard) when he played back in the days. His solo work goes under the name of Agust D (Suga backwards + Town Daegu his hometown).
We Army support our reactors when we see maturity analysing BTS music and sincerity without prejudice. So if you are really on board, welcome and enjoy the ride. Everybody say we find BTS when we needed them because they really are a group of great human beings. RM just released his Indigo album with Erika Badu in his song Yun. If they were not quality material, she would never ever collab with them.

5:04 The story for Suga's name that I heard is that his favourite basketball position is shooting guard so it's a combo of the first syllable from each word. His aka is Agust D which is Suga backwards with D for his hometown Daegu. His birth name is Min YoonGI...Yoongi marry me has become a running joke between BTS and Army so definitely all the ladies want him, doesn't come across as a player though.

Dont worry about pausing, we understand. Their lyricism is the work of art after all. This song in particular has SO much meaning. It resonates at so many levels. It also is the big fuck you for the people who hate on people for no reason, causing pain (a famous female artist named Sully in Korean committed suicide and many believe this song was dedicated to victims like her)

I just devoured all of your BTS reactions and just commented about reacting in order because their growth is amazing and can get missed bouncing around through the timeline. As someone who grew up on 2Pac, KRS One, Biggie, Keith Sweat and Usher and the end era of New Jack Swing and has been ARMY since 2014, BTS's foundation is steeped in that world.
