Thank you for this guide, it relieves a lot of stress about my purchase, I'm excited to get back into VR in January after my surgery, and surprise my friends by moving but for right now I'm stuck on Steam Deck and PC.

I built my trackers back in February but used them ONCE. The Discord is VERY good in the DIY section - but when it comes to getting the mounting and proportions done - its a friggin ghost town. All they do is point to a pinned message to a guide that is so old the UI isn't even the same and doesn't have some of the same features anymore. I had given up and was just gonna try and somehow save for Vive's (I have three currently because a friend was supposed to give me base stations but that fell through lol) Now I think I can get the Slimes going and actually be able to use the things I put blood sweat and tears into building (not exaggerating with that. I had to teach myself everything and managed to cut myself while making holes in the case XD). Thanks so much ZRock35

Also I'm glad that this guide encouraged you to try again. Since the server has developed to be much more streamlined and easy to use, it was time - I plan on doing a more detailed guide with arms and feet highlighted (and shoulders, I need to revisit them), they are a little more tricky to get properly set up than just this basic set.
I always see hate for Slimevr trackers and how vive is better, I see old set up tutorials that are confusing and I've been waiting for my trackers for months and thought I messed up with even buying them, this video gave me the hope I needed and I am excited for my trackers and not disappointed I didn't get other trackers. Building my own so this'll help. I decided to build a set of 8 with spare parts, if everything works, I'm making 10 trackers. I don't wanna wait for August to get my trackers, I'd rather build them and know I can fix it if it breaks.

Handy tips if your slime doesn't really match your movement in real life. 1. Stand still whilst clicking the reset button. Don't click reset and start moving for at least 3 seconds or so. 2. Go to the menu and click calibrate, when you click calibrate, find a mirror and not your personal mirror and when you find a mirror make sure you align the trackers to the avatar's body as perfect as you can and then click trigger on your controller Have fun VRChat citizens!
When you use 6 trackers, which part of your hips or waist is more comfortable? How did you orient yourself when you wore it on your hip part? That's a very good video.
Thanks, I appreciate that! I have my hip tracker mounted directly in front of my body, slightly below my belly button - side mounting is not optimal, as when you sit down your hip will tend to be tilted. You can also have it mounted behind you, on your lower back, but since I do yoga and lay down a lot, it's not as comfortable for me there (but it does work!)

ive done the set up but when i go in game my legs will bend and kick in the opposite direction. Also, on 1:28 I didn't get that screen, only recording.
You need to have at least one tracker turned on for that to show up - BMI-160s have their own calibrations, and are recognized by the server and don't show it. Thanks for noticing that, I was not aware it did that, but it's pretty cool!

I was gonna buy them, but I saw how badly the wait time was and that majority of the first batch hasn't even got theirs yes. 2 years and still struggling to ship to anyone. I decided to just build my own. I splurged on everything I needed, I just need a 3D printer and I'll be set. Starting from literally nothing, not soldering iron, heat gun for shrink tubing, wire strippers, ect... It's cost me around $350 USD. All that's left is the 3d printer for $180 roughly and I've saved a good amount. The parts are dirtcheap if you can wait 2 weeks for most parts. $80 USD for a 6-8 tracker set-up.
Dumb question, but I remember seeing a setup video where you had to tinker through a bunch of code instead of using an application by SlimeVR themselves. Is it really that much easier now?

hi, first of all i love your videos, they've motivated me to save up for slimes haha (50% of the way there!!) i was wondering if it's at all possible to do a tutorial on how to set them up with quest 2 standalone? i'm completely unsure if i'm supposed to download an application on the quest itself or if i'm supposed to connect them wireless-ly to my computer? i've had issues with OSC in the past but i'm assuming using slimevr is different as it seems far more high-tech than some silly little FBT mobile app (viso haha) anyways, if you are unable to do a tutorial on quest standalone set up, would it be possible to point me in the direction of another one? just doing that extra bit of research before committing £200 to anything at all 😅
I'll look into it, I've never actually done "true" standalone (with the server app on the Quest) but it's possible, text instructions are in the SlimeVR discord. I just run the server on my PC and output from that to the Quest using OSC directly, no SteamVR involved. I need to get SideQuest going to do the "real" standalone from what I know, with no PC involved, I'll check. If it's easy enough, I will make a video showing how!

Hi how do you set up the extension i got 5+1 core set and it doesn't work, whether main tracker is on or off, the extension is not recognized and make me unable to connect main tracker if i plug the cable
Make sure you have your headset on and connected to SteamVR - it should show up in the SlimeVR server if it's connected properly. For more technical support, the SlimeVR discord is very useful since you can embed pictures and such when needed.
I got mine setup with this tutorial, thank you for the video. It's not precise, with my feet together, my feet cross. Can you make a video for the fine tuning? Oh, and do we need to go through this calibration each time we use slime?
Yep, I'm doing an updated video for calibration, it's about half done and is being tested by people from the SlimeVR server. I'm getting good feedback from it, it should be ready soon! The body proportions are saved in the SlimeVR server, you only need to do the "Full Reset" and "Mounting Reset" at the start of a VRChat session, and lock em in with VRChat's "FBT Calibrate" button
I really want Non Base Station tracking since my Vive Trackers have been going on the frits lately (I think all my base stations are heckin up...) I'd like to get Slime Trackers but I'm at a loss on where to get them or how to even make them lol...

The way you did the proportions section. The part where you're meant to rotate and reach towards the ground. I've been doing mine differently. It looks in the docs like they stand up straight. Rotate then reach. But you're still squatting. Did I misunderstand the image? Or do both work?
The moves themselves are actually not "set in stone", they are just moves that seemed to work well in general - if that works for you better, then do that, I found that this worked for me fine, and has worked for others well too!
Hi, I have installed 8.3 version (also tried newest beta) but I dont have calibration step (after confirming that I connected tracker it goes straight to putting stickers and straps). Did they removed it or I have to enable it somehow?
That step does not show up if you are using BMI-160 based trackers, they have user set manual calibration. Information on how to manually calibrate them, including video tutorials, are in the pins of the BMI-160 thread in the SlimeVR discord.
You can use a phone to run the SlimeVR server - a PC or android phone is needed at first to assign the wifi credentials to the trackers, but after that you can just use a phone to run the server and have the trackers connect to that (and forwards the tracking to VRChat)
It saves in the server, but just means you need to be careful to do the automatic proportions with the trackers on where you know you'll be putting them every time!
The headset needs to be connected to SteamVR for Automatic Proportions (and it will show up in the SlimeVR server when it is) - if you are trying to do Quest Standalone, you need to do manual proportions.
@@123123123123833 Ah yeah I see - you are right, I edited the bit where I assigned hip on out by accident, my bad - if you look, you'll see I had 6 trackers to assign, and later they were all assigned, it was an honest mistake.
Currently in a bit of a holding pattern till the new merged server version releases (I covered some features in "News" videos briefly, but yeah I kinda need that to happen so it's not obsolete instantly - should be very soon though!)
Follow the Calibration Guide, it's much newer than this video and has all the settings for SlimeVR and VRChat that you need - also, if you don't have arm trackers or only upper arm trackers, the skeleton model in the server won't have bendy arms, it'll still work fine in VRChat though

SlimeVR Server doesn't take almost any processing power, almost anything (including a phone, or even the Quest itself can run it), and the trackers work using Wifi only (2.4ghz band) - no base stations are needed! My review video covers that, and I recommend a minimum of 6 Slime trackers for VRChat.
I got 3 trackers with the imu6050 to do a test, before spending for the bno085, and when I enter vrchat the trackers appear on my neck and the avatar is twisted, someone told me to see the OSC but I don't know how it works and I don't know what else I can do, I put one on my chest and the other two on my thighs because I was getting an exclamation
You can run the SlimeVR server on a laptop or even a phone, or on the Quest itself using OSC, for VRChat, if you are not able to run SteamVR - I have videos showing how to do the phone method and the Quest method
Yep! The only difference will be that with BMI-160's there won't be a "lay trackers flat on table" page in the setup wizard, since BMIs have manual calibration saved.
So quick question; I run an ethernet to my pc because my wireless internet is HORRID. Does the tracking quality decrease depending on internet quality?
Slime trackers work on 2.4 ghz local wifi network, so it's not about internet quality, it's about your local wi-fi connection quality. A congested 2.4 ghz band (lots of other 2.4 ghz networks/other high bandwidth draw devices) can impede tracking to some level, but that's fairly rare. Distance can decrease tracking quality in a sense, I found that after going about 40 feet or so away from my router, the trackers start to lose connection.
Well, there's lots of options since you can build them yourself, buy DIY ones from other people (marketplace forum on the SlimeVR discord has sellers), or pre-order from CrowdSupply, which will probably take longer than either of the other options. Current pre-orders from CrowdSupply will likely be shipped early next year, from what I can see. Once the current backlog of orders has been sent out, I think there will be a much better sense of how long it'll take between ordering and getting them in hand. For now, with Official Slimes, it's a wait.
Fair, it sucks how long it's taken (been waiting almost 2 years now personally), and although some is shipping now, it's going to be a while before everyone gets them. You can always sell the Vives later if you decide that Slimes look like they fit your needs more, so it's really up to you!
you only need to do the standing reset and ski pose when entering VRChat each session, then during the session you can just use the yaw reset every so often to fix the drift - the server saves the body proportions from that little autobone dance so that's a (hopefully) one time thing!
I made my own using parts I bought from Amazon, Ebay, and AliExpress, and soldered them together following instructions and diagrams in the SlimeVR discord, in the DIY channel. The Official CrowdSupply SlimeVR trackers are not yet finished being made, but hopefully the first batch will be sent out when they are completed in about a month or so (estimated). Any that you find for sale from other sellers online are also just DIY builds of various quality, buyer beware.
I'm using 6 BNO08X based DIY trackers in this video, functionally the exact same as what the official CrowdSupply trackers are but built with parts I ordered online and soldered together myself about a year and 9 months ago. It wasn't too difficult to do, there are detailed instructions on the SlimeVR discord server, in the DIY channel (the pins there have a detailed component list as well). I put information on what trackers I am using in all video descriptions, and where they are mounted as well!
I did for this, but SlimeVR server also runs on phones and even can run inside the headset itself! (it's not the greatest that way though, very choppy I found)
I have a question I’m trying to get answered does anyone know if you can use slime vr as a head tracker looking for a set of trackers I can have connected to my vtuber on pc while also being able to switch and use them for gaming if needed.
Nope, you only need to do the resets as I mentioned in the video - once you've done body calibration for the body proportions, that stuff is saved in the server. Once I'm in VRChat, I just do the resets and that's it, takes like less than 30 seconds to be doing my thing.
If you have BMI-160 based trackers, it's possible you didn't do the calibration for each tracker correctly. It's a manual procedure that has instructions and video on how to do it in the BMI-160 thread in the SlimeVR discord server. This is for BNO08X based trackers, which do automatic calibration upon startup. Without more information, I can't really help you more than that, your best bet is to make a Support-Forum ticket in the SlimeVR server and provide details on exactly what is happening!
If im using a lan cable and also is connected to a wifi repeater (not sure if you know what is that, is similar as an access point), how can i connect the trackers??? Or its not possible???
The repeater needs to be on repeater mode, not running it's own network, but yes that should work. If you encounter issues, you may need to factory reset it, but otherwise it should work!
That means you need to have your VR headset turned on, and connected via SteamVR to the SlimeVR server - it's important for doing automatic proportions, since the entire SlimeVR skeleton is based from the absolute position of the headset. Without the position of the headset being reported to the server, the automatic proportion math cannot be calculated properly.
Hey i find the auto proportion instructions super confusing. Like bend forwards and squat? You did a very different thing :x Then the next step you keep squatting? while reaching down and turning at the same time? Its just so different to the instructions .. like i dont even know if i should follow the instructions or what you do. I guess what you do maybe .. not sure. Cause some say "while squatting" but the ones which dont say squatting or while squatting you still squat
Butterscotch!, who designed autobone, said the movements for autobone can literally be "wiggling your body as long as your heels stay flat on the floor" so it's not very important to exactly follow this set of steps precisely. Additionally, there is a new animation that me and Butterscotch! worked on together that is going to be added, with "official" movements so don't worry.

The Official CrowdSupply trackers (which I ordered back in 2021) are shipping out in batches, and unfortunately if you order now, you will be in a later batch - which means you would not get them right away, it will take as long as 4-6 months from now to receive them. There are other sellers of trackers out there, you may have seen the ads in various VRChat worlds, but those are simply DIY sets that people are making, and all I can say about those is BUYER BEWARE. The quality and support of those trackers is not going to be as good as the official CrowdSupply trackers, so I generally tell people to avoid them, or do research and know what you are getting into. Don't waste your money on lower build quality trackers that use worse quality chips! Hope that helps, feel free to ask me more questions if you are curious.
If you need to access the SlimeVR server, a program such as OVR Toolkit can make it easy, as then you can have a floating window with the server available.
This is in the main SlimeVR installer now, v.0.8.0 got released proper, you can get it easily by joining the SlimeVR - I'll put the link in the video description here to make it easier for you to get!
Join the SlimeVR Discord server, check out the Beta Test forum! I would not recommend getting this exact version right now though, since it's going to be updated to v.0.8.0 Release Candidate 2 quite soon. There were some extremely important improvements and bug fixes that are just now being added, that are not in v0.8.0 RC1. Beta testing is at your own risk, be aware that sometimes these beta releases have issues that don't show up until testers have tried them for a little while and experimented with them.
spent 1 day soldering and 3d print 10 trackers.. all of em work well in the slimevr server.. and then i spent 1 month+ (still not working perfect) calibrating and raging and playing with space drag, offsets, at this point.. can i just buy htc vive and throw my slime in the garbage.. every tutorial laugh at me because its so easy, and everything work first time..
I did make a video on that! It's not possible right now to completely do the full setup, since you need to sideload SlimeVR using a PC to the Quest at first, but after that it's completely able to do standalone

Mine Slime 8.0RC1 server does not show IMU calibration.. it jumps straight to straps window on BMI160 :?

Make sure you have your headset on and connected to SteamVR - it should show up in the SlimeVR server if it's connected properly. For more technical support, the SlimeVR discord is very useful since you can embed pictures and such when needed.
I got mine setup with this tutorial, thank you for the video. It's not precise, with my feet together, my feet cross. Can you make a video for the fine tuning? Oh, and do we need to go through this calibration each time we use slime?
Yep, I'm doing an updated video for calibration, it's about half done and is being tested by people from the SlimeVR server. I'm getting good feedback from it, it should be ready soon!
The body proportions are saved in the SlimeVR server, you only need to do the "Full Reset" and "Mounting Reset" at the start of a VRChat session, and lock em in with VRChat's "FBT Calibrate" button
I really want Non Base Station tracking since my Vive Trackers have been going on the frits lately (I think all my base stations are heckin up...) I'd like to get Slime Trackers but I'm at a loss on where to get them or how to even make them lol...

The way you did the proportions section. The part where you're meant to rotate and reach towards the ground. I've been doing mine differently. It looks in the docs like they stand up straight. Rotate then reach. But you're still squatting.

The moves themselves are actually not "set in stone", they are just moves that seemed to work well in general - if that works for you better, then do that, I found that this worked for me fine, and has worked for others well too!
Hi, I have installed 8.3 version (also tried newest beta) but I dont have calibration step (after confirming that I connected tracker it goes straight to putting stickers and straps). Did they removed it or I have to enable it somehow?
That step does not show up if you are using BMI-160 based trackers, they have user set manual calibration. Information on how to manually calibrate them, including video tutorials, are in the pins of the BMI-160 thread in the SlimeVR discord.

I get far better 1 to 1 tracking with auto calibration than I've ever been able to get with manual proportions, it's fantastic in my opinion.

You can use a phone to run the SlimeVR server - a
PC or android phone is needed at first to assign the wifi credentials to the trackers, but after that you can just use a phone to run the server and have the trackers connect to that (and forwards the tracking to VRChat)
when you measure your body do you have to do that everytime you want to use the trackers or does it save the measurements?
It saves in the server, but just means you need to be careful to do the automatic proportions with the trackers on where you know you'll be putting them every time!

I went to do automatic priportions but unfortunately it says i need to connect my headset to slimevr and im not sure how.
The headset needs to be connected to SteamVR for Automatic Proportions (and it will show up in the SlimeVR server when it is) - if you are trying to do Quest Standalone, you need to do manual proportions.
How can i change the wifi credentials if i have already one configurated in the slime's?
Connecting the SlimeVR tracker with USB and turning it on, the server will pop open a window where you can assign new credentials to the tracker

there's 6 trackers active, look at the server - chest, hip, right thigh, left thigh, right ankle, left ankle all are assigned and working

Follow the Calibration Guide, it's much newer than this video and has all the settings for SlimeVR and VRChat that you need - also, if you don't have arm trackers or only upper arm trackers, the skeleton model in the server won't have bendy arms, it'll still work fine in VRChat though

Hi im a questie with pinoquest and i wanna start my fullbody journey. I trying to figure out what monitor and pc to get to have slime vr .. do i need any base stations? Please explain to me.
SlimeVR Server doesn't take almost any processing power, almost anything (including a phone, or even the Quest itself can run it), and the trackers work using Wifi only (2.4ghz band) - no base stations are needed! My review video covers that, and I recommend a minimum of 6 Slime trackers for VRChat.
I got 3 trackers with the imu6050 to do a test, before spending for the bno085, and when I enter vrchat the trackers appear on my neck and the avatar is twisted, someone told me to see the OSC but I don't know how it works and I don't know what else I can do, I put one on my chest and the other two on my thighs because I was getting an exclamation

You can run the SlimeVR server on a laptop or even a phone, or on the Quest itself using OSC, for VRChat, if you are not able to run SteamVR - I have videos showing how to do the phone method and the Quest method

Yep! The only difference will be that with BMI-160's there won't be a "lay trackers flat on table" page in the setup wizard, since BMIs have manual calibration saved.
So quick question; I run an ethernet to my pc because my wireless internet is HORRID. Does the tracking quality decrease depending on internet quality?
Slime trackers work on 2.4 ghz local wifi network, so it's not about internet quality, it's about your local wi-fi connection quality. A congested 2.4 ghz band (lots of other 2.4 ghz networks/other high bandwidth draw devices) can impede tracking to some level, but that's fairly rare. Distance can decrease tracking quality in a sense, I found that after going about 40 feet or so away from my router, the trackers start to lose connection.
So if im planning getting VR next year i shall make my order now like 6-8 months before?
Well, there's lots of options since you can build them yourself, buy DIY ones from other people (marketplace forum on the SlimeVR discord has sellers), or pre-order from CrowdSupply, which will probably take longer than either of the other options. Current pre-orders from CrowdSupply will likely be shipped early next year, from what I can see.
Once the current backlog of orders has been sent out, I think there will be a much better sense of how long it'll take between ordering and getting them in hand. For now, with Official Slimes, it's a wait.
I’m about to just buy Vive 3.0 if they push it back again. Set to ship end of July and I would like to have trackers before end of my summer break.
Fair, it sucks how long it's taken (been waiting almost 2 years now personally), and although some is shipping now, it's going to be a while before everyone gets them. You can always sell the Vives later if you decide that Slimes look like they fit your needs more, so it's really up to you!

Do you need to do this every time you restart your PC and the trackers?
you only need to do the standing reset and ski pose when entering VRChat each session, then during the session you can just use the yaw reset every so often to fix the drift - the server saves the body proportions from that little autobone dance so that's a (hopefully) one time thing!

I made my own using parts I bought from Amazon, Ebay, and AliExpress, and soldered them together following instructions and diagrams in the SlimeVR discord, in the DIY channel. The Official CrowdSupply SlimeVR trackers are not yet finished being made, but hopefully the first batch will be sent out when they are completed in about a month or so (estimated). Any that you find for sale from other sellers online are also just DIY builds of various quality, buyer beware.

I'm using 6 BNO08X based DIY trackers in this video, functionally the exact same as what the official CrowdSupply trackers are but built with parts I ordered online and soldered together myself about a year and 9 months ago. It wasn't too difficult to do, there are detailed instructions on the SlimeVR discord server, in the DIY channel (the pins there have a detailed component list as well).
I put information on what trackers I am using in all video descriptions, and where they are mounted as well!

I did for this, but SlimeVR server also runs on phones and even can run inside the headset itself! (it's not the greatest that way though, very choppy I found)

Nope, you only need to do the resets as I mentioned in the video - once you've done body calibration for the body proportions, that stuff is saved in the server. Once I'm in VRChat, I just do the resets and that's it, takes like less than 30 seconds to be doing my thing.

If you have BMI-160 based trackers, it's possible you didn't do the calibration for each tracker correctly. It's a manual procedure that has instructions and video on how to do it in the BMI-160 thread in the SlimeVR discord server. This is for BNO08X based trackers, which do automatic calibration upon startup.
Without more information, I can't really help you more than that, your best bet is to make a Support-Forum ticket in the SlimeVR server and provide details on exactly what is happening!
If im using a lan cable and also is connected to a wifi repeater (not sure if you know what is that, is similar as an access point), how can i connect the trackers??? Or its not possible???
The repeater needs to be on repeater mode, not running it's own network, but yes that should work. If you encounter issues, you may need to factory reset it, but otherwise it should work!

What does it mean by, "This requires having your HMD connected to SlimeVR"
That means you need to have your VR headset turned on, and connected via SteamVR to the SlimeVR server - it's important for doing automatic proportions, since the entire SlimeVR skeleton is based from the absolute position of the headset. Without the position of the headset being reported to the server, the automatic proportion math cannot be calculated properly.
Hey i find the auto proportion instructions super confusing. Like bend forwards and squat? You did a very different thing :x Then the next step you keep squatting? while reaching down and turning at the same time? Its just so different to the instructions .. like i dont even know if i should follow the instructions or what you do. I guess what you do maybe .. not sure. Cause some say "while squatting" but the ones which dont say squatting or while squatting you still squat
Butterscotch!, who designed autobone, said the movements for autobone can literally be "wiggling your body as long as your heels stay flat on the floor" so it's not very important to exactly follow this set of steps precisely.
Additionally, there is a new animation that me and Butterscotch! worked on together that is going to be added, with "official" movements so don't worry.

The Official CrowdSupply trackers (which I ordered back in 2021) are shipping out in batches, and unfortunately if you order now, you will be in a later batch - which means you would not get them right away, it will take as long as 4-6 months from now to receive them.
There are other sellers of trackers out there, you may have seen the ads in various VRChat worlds, but those are simply DIY sets that people are making, and all I can say about those is BUYER BEWARE.
The quality and support of those trackers is not going to be as good as the official CrowdSupply trackers, so I generally tell people to avoid them, or do research and know what you are getting into. Don't waste your money on lower build quality trackers that use worse quality chips!

If you need to access the SlimeVR server, a program such as OVR Toolkit can make it easy, as then you can have a floating window with the server available.

I would not recommend getting this exact version right now though, since it's going to be updated to v.0.8.0 Release Candidate 2 quite soon. There were some extremely important improvements and bug fixes that are just now being added, that are not in v0.8.0 RC1.
Beta testing is at your own risk, be aware that sometimes these beta releases have issues that don't show up until testers have tried them for a little while and experimented with them.

spent 1 day soldering and 3d print 10 trackers.. all of em work well in the slimevr server.. and then i spent 1 month+ (still not working perfect) calibrating and raging and playing with space drag, offsets, at this point.. can i just buy htc vive and throw my slime in the garbage.. every tutorial laugh at me because its so easy, and everything work first time..

I did make a video on that! It's not possible right now to completely do the full setup, since you need to sideload SlimeVR using a PC to the Quest at first, but after that it's completely able to do standalone
most of all of this isnt even close to being included in the slimevr apk.
It is actually, 0.13.0 RC1 is being tested currently and there's been an APK that lets you do all this for quite a whle.
