I just noticed your trackers work perfectly fine even when covered by your clothes. That's a really good feature, I'm tired of my ive trackers 2.0 loosing tracking all the time because of this.
Yep, I sometimes have my slimes in "stealth mode" under my clothes if I need to go elsewhere to do things, as they are comfortable enough that I don't notice them. Nobody knows I have them on! lol

Those look great! Just sad they only last for so long before they need to be reset. Perhaps they could be combined with AprilTags or any other outside-in tracking and reset automatically when they're starting to drift..

I had fun making it, thanks! I'd say for the velcro straps, I have a table that I place them all on, spaced out from each other, and fold the velcro underneath each one, when I take them off - it works pretty well, but yeah the velcro getting stuck to each other is annoying. I may eventually make snap-together clasps rather than velcro, I've seen others do that and it seems like a practical solution. There have been a few people with wifi connection issues with their new slimes, most of them are getting sorted out in technical support, but hopefully the devs can address this with future updates. The ones with issues seem to be Apple Airlink, firewall problems, and specific routers that are older models. I had one slime not want to connect, but restarting my PC somehow fixed it, for what it's worth.
Hey zrock, real loving the showcase and reviews. I'm planning to make some for myself for mocap. In your opinion what's the adequate number of tracker you think is best for mocap? And also what imu do you use? Do you notice any issue with drift?
Thank you for your support! Great that you are planning to DIY, it's really fun! I use exclusively BNO085 trackers, with my DIY set configured to use magnetometers, and the Official set in default "no-mag" configuration, although I do have BMI-160 and MPU-6050 trackers that I built and have used (those don't have magnetometers btw). Drift is not an issue with magnetometers enabled IF you have a good mag environment. Drift with "default" non-magnetometer firmware is always there, but it's not too bad - every so often (10-20 mins, longer if not moving much) I need to reset with the keybind button, but it doesn't bother me. IMO Given the fact that SlimeVR supports 20 points for mocap, I'd say (mocap mode) mocap starts at 13 trackers - head, neck, each upper arm, each lower arm, each hand, hip, each upper leg, each lower leg. That would be sufficient for most full body use cases, however, adding foot rotation would be nice for some things, so depending on how much you need that type of movement, 2 more for feet could help. Shoulders I was not overly impressed with, but again, depends on how much you want shrugging. I don't consider adding upper chest to be a big benefit, nor is adding an additional waist tracker to the hip really that much better than a hip tracker alone - it's a little better, but not wildly so. Hope that helps, feel free to ask more questions - I'm glad you are considering this for mocap!

Yep, there's some important differences: I have Hyperions, as well as jewelry box slimes, and the official slimes are made with injection molding, which looks like (and feels like) it will be more durable than the other ones in the long run. I had Hyperion strap loops break multiple times, the official slimes don't look like they'll have that problem. These are also smaller than the Hyperions, which is nice. Also, they can be on while charging and have battery sense so I can see what percentage they are at in VR, my DIY slimes never had resistors or diodes, so that's a major upgrade in quality of life (and safer too). The extension wires on the officials are my only real issue - the JST wire breaking sucked, but to be fair, I used them in extreme ways by dancing, rolling around, basically doing real stress testing.
I made this question already on another of your videos but how do you avoid overheating while dancing? I noticed your play space is outdoors maybe? Deam... slime not needing basestations make you practically free to play anywhere.
You nailed it - I actually created an outdoor VR play space, using two connected enclosed car canopies with plywood flooring, for a total space of 40'x10' which allows me a lot of freedom. I have a fan set up as well, for when dancing gets intense, but as I live at a fairly high elevation usually that is not an issue for me. Being fully wifi based makes these very convenient, no need to be stuck in a room!
Do you think it would be in our best interest to go ahead and hot glue the extension wires once we get them to avoid cable breaking? Kinda paranoid of having one snap on me now.
I think so - I have seen others have those wires break now since this video was made and people got sets, and although they are covered under warranty, the fact that they don't have strain relief is a real issue. I think you would be better off reinforcing them for sure!
@@ZRock35VR For real DIYers you can get shrink wrap black microtubing, it's dirt cheap, for electrical work, it slips over wires, then you hit it with heat and it shrinks into a flexible yet stiff film, it's the same material on the end of a fan for you pc, for example, on the end that plugs into a motherboard, a lot of fans will have that on there as an example so you know what it is
I have ordered some custom SlimeVR trackers that use BNO08x IMUs, do you think they will work comparably to the official trackers? Or is it worth cancelling the order for the official ones? I like the design of the trackers I'm ordering from the custom tracker maker which is why I ordered them.
They are very light and comfortable when strapped on, and don't slip at all - the only one that I noticed slipping down was the chest tracker (mainly when I was dancing or jumping up and down a lot), you can either tighten that one on a lot, or do what I did and just add a bit of velcro to stop that from happening completely!
I got 10 point tracking recently and set it up a few days ago, i currently got a problem where i need to reset/recalibrate every 2minutes because my chest seems to rotate left and the arm trackers got all prezel. Do you have any advice or pointers on how to solve this issue because i notice loads of people don't seem to have this issue. (I'm new to fbt please go easy on me)
Subtitles broken, it miss the timings and showed at start one big block text. So it need fixed for sure. Don't know what happened but subs are broken for me.
I'd say minimum to get is build or buy 6 trackers, which if you are looking at the CrowdSupply site is the 5+1 set, which gives you good full body tracking in VRChat - you don't get foot rotation or elbow tracking with that, but I found that for regular everyday use (casual dancing, laying down, sitting etc) that amount is quick to put on, comfortable and works well! Most of my videos are with 6 trackers, and unless you really want more, like for foot rotation/elbow tracking, it's the best price/performance IMHO.

I encourage you to research it, the SlimeVR discord has lots of information, but current estimates are people who order now will be getting them likely early next year.
True, I tried using NVidia noise cancelling which only helped a little, I need to learn how to tune it better - tbh I had only used it for like a day before making this, so I'm an absolute noob at tuning. Still, wanted to show something goofy and different from my normal stuff, which I think this was.
That was in Unity, I was not in game - there's a plugin called "External Receiver Pack" that can let you use a VRM model and do live mocap in Unity with Slimes!
I got a development set early directly from the SlimeVR company (I do beta testing/youtubing and have been contributing every day for a couple years now), but I also pre-ordered through CrowdSupply back when the project first started, and am still waiting for my pre-order to get through customs currently. There's a LOT of backed up orders that the company is trying to get through (over 10K pre-orders currently, and they are making them at a rate of about 1.5K sets per month) which is why they are saying 2024 for new pre-orders. It's tough because they are a small company and have had a lot of setbacks in the past that have delayed things.
The review set I got was directly mailed to me from the SlimeVR company and did not go through CrowdSupply - it was fairly quick. I am very grateful to have gotten it, but that is not at all typical. The pre-order set (5+3) that I ordered 2 years ago, is still currently stuck in US customs, and I am waiting for news on when it might get through! I have no idea how long it will take, I hope once it clears customs it doesn't take too long, but I can't say really yet. The wait continues!
Generally with active movements using BNOs, it's about 10-15 minutes between resets, but can be longer if you aren't jumping around and dancing, like 20-30+ minutes before needing to reset.

It sucks, but I've been waiting since 2021 for the 5+3 set I pre-ordered, but hopefully I'll get it soon, I was fortunate enough to get the review set early, but yeah....it's going to be a long wait for the official slimes for all the recent people ordering. On the other hand, there are sellers in the SlimeVR discord making DIY sets that ship out fast, but you need to do research before just ordering - some sets use BMI-160s, other use BNOs like the officials.
Are you using official trackers, or DIY version of Slime made with BMI-160 IMUs? It's possible the BMIs were not calibrated, if they are just constantly "drifting" non-stop.

Which VR headset are u using? I have the index but I want to look into a wireless VR headset.
I'm using a Quest 2, with Virtual Desktop on all of my videos - fully wireless is super worth it IMO!
