Love how you broke down your object and it’s surroundings!!! Never would have guessed the pumpkin - love how you look at things - thank you for sharing and teaching
Thanks, Kelly! Painting has helped me, as it has many people, look at the details, shapes, colors, textures, etc around me a little differently. I'm always thinking, "How would I paint that?"
Hey Bill! So glad this helped. I'd love to say that I'm cured of too much thinking when I paint, but my mind keeps hopping in. Seems like a lesson we have to keep learning. These warm-ups have definitely helped me progress though.
@@chrisloudart Yes, indeed, and that's why doing it just about every day , whether I have another project or not, is sooo helpful. I keep getting wonderful paintings , even out of those 15 minute warm ups!
@@billyonthewheels75 Same here. I've been pleasantly surprised how much I like the paintings done in such a short time frame. They've also given me great ideas for larger paintings.
😂😂😂 I was laughing seeing the real image at the end. A pumpkin! Honestly, I didn't expect that. I was convinced that it would be a takeaway coffee cup with a spoon. And that's not a criticism. I was laughing about myself. I love the end result. Fantastic! I personally am struggling a lot with turning a real image into an abstract. You seem to do it so easily. Thank you, Chris, for showing us how to approach this. I will give it a go straight away. 😊
Really like your vids... and yes... you have got me doing painting. Not sure if it is warm ups or just fun for the sake of fun and the passion for getting colour moving on a surface. At any rate, thank you for your inspiring videos.
Hey Emmanuel! Thanks for watching and your kind words. As artists we all seem to need inspiration now and then, I know I sure do. I'm so glad these videos work for you. Keep on painting!🖌️
Thank you for showing us how to let go and just create. Overthinking is one of my main issues and often I don't even start. I appreciate how you demonstrate letting your mind play freely, and then gradually but swiftly, in less than 15 minutes, you turn it into something beautiful. Subbed!
Thanks, Luken! I'm glad these videos are helpful. Overthinking is something that most artists have to deal with, probably more often than we realize. I do these daily warm-ups and still find myself struggling with it now and then. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much, Stefan! I was in Athens about 7 years ago and absolutely loved it. I hope to go back soon! Drinking a frappe is not the same anywhere else.
J'aime beaucoup votre travail. Je le trouve magique. Je ne comprends pas ce que vous dîtes mais votre manière de peindre ce fait comprendre d'elle même. Je vous remercie pour ce que vous faites.
I liked it upside down also, but I liked it when it was on its side with the stalk pointing to the right.😃 I've been doing the 15min warm ups and enjoying the exercises. As always thank you for the video.
@@chrisloudart still very wet and cold, weather wise, but I'm weird I quite like winter, well except when it's gale force winds. I'm working on a painting at the moment it's not exactly an abstract but it's an unusual request an ultrasound of a baby, you can only just pick out the baby or rather it's outline. Once I got it round my head that I didn't have to paint a baby it got a little interesting. Cheers!
@@chrisloudart I'm still on the fence as to whether I like the idea or not, but at the stage I'm up to its kind of looking a little creepy! I think I need it to be more abstract and less ultrasound. I've just done with breakfast I thought you'd be tucked up in bed?!
@@howlingwind1937 Haha...I can see how that could turn creepy. Not in bed quite yet a few more hours to go until then. Getting ready to do a little more painting before I turn in.😴
I do this in watercolor, but you have me itching to dig out my acrylics. It's a more freeing medium, in my opinion. Love the drawing with water soluble crayon. Thanks for the creative content. Oh yeah, I like the portrait orientation with the stem facing left.
Hey NaD Art! I paint mainly in acrylics, but am getting more interested in diving into watercolor. One of the reasons I've stuck with acrylics is just how easy it is to pivot and change directions. But I love the beauty of watercolor paintings. Thanks for your feedback!
I really loved this video and how the painting turned out!👏🏻 I’ve made art before by abstracting the basic shapes and it really does work so well. The upside perspective is my favorite also. Many thanks for the inspiration!
Thankyou and great to see. You are good with colour. I never know what style to adopt. I look at Monet Renoir Degas and I want to give up. As I could never draw like Degas does.
The shapes are so defined it seems to be straining for representation rather than abstraction. Oh, now I see it’s a pumpkin. So I definitely prefer the final vertical orientation as compositionally it feels more interesting, mysterious, and balanced.
Hey Betsy! This is definitely walking the line on which style it wants to be. That's my favorite vertical orientation now as well. Thanks for watching!😊
after you've extracted the main shapes and general colour scheme from the photo do you keep looking at it or do you just wander and let it develop of it's own accord?
Hey Antoine! I typically don't look at it again. I sometimes do a quick sketch for the general shapes and might refer back to that, but usually the image is just to get me started.
I really like your style of painting but would also appreciate if you could show some of the paint mixing you do on your palette as that is the area I have most trouble with.

Haha, I hadn't noticed that but you are so right, it does.
My mother said: you have to find a dentist. She was so wrong: Its more important to find a painter. 😊

As you were painting I was trying to figure out what the original image was. I was seeing a female figure on the right. Boy I was wrong.... haha.
Haha...now I need to go and rewatch this to see if I can find the female figure.
