@@ashurad_fox5991 thanks for the advice! It took me a while but I learned the buster. I'm not proficient with it yet but I now understand it and combat. While it's the closest to GS it's much different. I've found that my main attack is the step X attack with the right burst skills on it. Also the jump X attack with the downward thrust on it. I charge sometimes when they're down but I mostly step X. It does crazy damage when the part is broken. I'm terrible with timing so I haven't landed any guard points yet, this is also a problem in MH with the CB. Overall this game is really fun and great at filling my time between Rise updates
@@atheist101 I can understand, I mostly nail the timing on guard point in 4u. But here in this game I can barely manage to only guard point a few attacks, probably since I'm on pc and not on consoles where I am used to. Well just like we all did in MH, just gotta practice and you'll eventually get used to it.
Definitely helped out a lot, as someone considering giving it a try from monster hunter background the combat system is much more complex and just messing around with the weapons in the switch demo hasnt really been enough get a full feel for each of the weapons styles
Wait a sec... they removed the Blast Gun!? But then again, it could get pretty OP easily especially with its storage bars and custom bullets, so it makes perfect sense to either replace it or heavily nerf it... I guess my bigger question is how didn't I know this until now despite watching every trailer and reading all the news about it?
I'd say that's for the best, Blast with custom bullets was OP as hell and was just straight-up better than all alternatives. Then again, a well-made custom bullet, like HDH is pretty unbalanced thing on it's own.
Wow, thanks for bringing this up! I just realized this. I played god eater since the burst and always love the close range combat. My friend then told me that the blast gun is the best (sticking to the assault tho, maybe shotgun for the third game) when we started the rage burst. Man... it kinda ruin the game you know. Alright! The head is not yet broken, aim for it! *Friends start spamming the blast gun with that oracle reserved*. It died, and i was like "dude... the head is not yet broken, why you do this?" I thought this blast gun meta will be back to this game but hey, i kinda like it since it is gone.
Appreciate the quick tips Boomstick Gaming. These videos have been really helpful on what weapons to go to in which sets, since I personally like to mix up different weapon types for certain play styles
Buster Blade/Assault is what I usually default to in all 3 God Eater games, but Variant Scythe/Sniper and Boost Hammer/Shotgun are fun to use from time to time.
For my Monster Hunter and Dauntless friends out there who still don’t know where they should start, these are my recommendations: *Monster Hunter* SnS: Short Blade GS: Buster Sword LS: Short and Long Blade, Scythes DB: Biting Edge, Short Blade IG: Charge Spear Switch Axe: Scythes, Charge Spear CB: Heavy Moon Hammer and HH: Boost-Hammer LBG: Shotgun, Assault, Laser HBG: Shotgun, Sniper, Laser Bow: Shotgun, Assault *Dauntless* Sword: Short and Long Blade Hammer: Boost Hammer, full stop Chainblades: Short Blade, Biting Edge, Charge Spear, Scythe Strikers: Biting Edge, Boost Hammer Warpike: Charge Spear, Scythe Axe: Heavy Moon, Buster Sword, Scythe Repeaters: Assault, Laser or just pick whatever n roll with it
I use the Biting Edge in God Eater 3 mainly because in the opening song of this game our main character or (Luca Pennywort) is using Biting edge as his main and canonical weapon
3:25 you should also add that Biting Edge's form prevents you from recovering stamina normally, so you should always be careful not to exhaust your character by accident.
Variant Scythe: Bloody Claw+Floating Mine is my go to attack for downed enemies. Step Dashing around enemies while laying out dozens of tiny floating explosives and healing HP with every hit is godlike. Distopia+Firebloom has massive knock down potential and the spin even allows for multiple hits. Most aerial enemies are grounded after only 2 rotations. Inferno Rush+Blade Storm allows you to focus massive damage onto weak points while still providing good area coverage. I use Machine Gun with explosive shots to deal large amounts of area damage combined with Rapid Fire status shots (Bind and Venom) to debilitate and a custom Healing Grenade for large area healing on multiple allies.
Wiki admin and That Guy from the community here. Some of you may know me from the discord or FB group, and I'm here to give y'all some condensed advice. First of all: Biting Edge and Heavy Moon outclass everything else in the game (melee-wise). Buster Blade and Boost Hammer come close, but they can't match both the damage output AND utility of BE and HM. BE has the highest damage output in the game by a long shot with Halo Assault, but HM is the meta favorite because it's not as situational and doesn't lock you out of guarding/isn't as risky a weapon overall. Buster and Hammer have amazing damage potential with BAs like Deadly Glide/Overkill (for BB; I'd include Anathema but being locked out of your primary method of ground damage when your enemy isn't attacking is kinda nah) and Lost Memory/Grand Finale (for BH), but they aren't nearly as aggressive as BE/HM and can't match their damage output. As for the other weapons... Charge Spear retains all its problems from the previous games. The hitboxes on Charge Glide are too thin to be useful, and the highest-damaging option, Valkyrie Glide (IIRC that's the aerial one), requires annoyingly precise aiming. IMO the most viable option is the one that replaces the glide with a stationary thrust. Short Blade is still the king of utility and survivability (with its infinitely-chainable air steps), but its damage output is nothing to write home about. The replacement for Astral Dive isn't nearly as good, since the angle is almost horizontal (making it harder to aim) and it'll carry you across the map if you miss. Long Blade is about as aggressive as BE/HM and is good for targeted parts breaking with Apsara Wings into Void Cutter, but it just doesn't have the damage output that those two do. *_Don't use Variant Scythe._* You honestly don't even NEED guns this time around, but honestly, if you're using anything other than Ray Gun you're missing out. Buy the L-sized laser bullets from Faith ASAP and just use those. There's basically nothing that won't melt to a well-aimed laser aside from a shielded Idol.
ty for the info! knowing the meta helps a lot, although it does limit the variety of weapons we see online. Anyway, I was going to go with the buster blade, but from what you say I may go for the biting edge instead. ooor maybe i'll just level up both of them.
@@thedarklordx metas don't really matter in pve games since you're always going to win, eventually, but if you're a player who likes to min max from time to time like me, then it's interesting to know.
@@koriy5915 well in some games something can be so shitty that it's completely unfun or requires a ton of work to be viable or straight up can't complete all the content. In multiplayer games you run the risk of being dead weight if the balance is poor and your build of choice sucks. On the flipside many games have opposite problems with the meta being boring or the game not being balanced around it so you end up wrecking everything with zero effort
@@thedarklordx agree, but the player shoudn't be the one to nerf himself just because the meta is too OP. That's the job of the developers. In GE3, let's just say you're dead weight if you bring the scythe, but that's about the only bad weapon. Even using a short sword correctly will get you decent damage, mostly because you're going to be able to focus on attack most of the time instead of healing, since you'll dodge everything.
As a God eater veteran I wonder why I still watch these videos. Then I remember it's because it's goddamn quality content and deserves to be watched even if you know already. Great breakdown of the weapon types and benefits of each. If there's one thing I would add in, the biting edge actually isn't as fast as it seems. While the moves themselves are fast and strike quickly, the delay from the moves to go into a step or a block is actually a bit longer than even the long blade, so while it might seem like a beginner friendly god arc it takes time to learn the timing and block patterns you should be using. If you want something similarly fast but with better step and block response then the short blade is your go to till you get used to the game first. Thanks to the delay, ironically I wound up just pairing a buckler to the biting edge to get those last minute blocks in, rather than a shield for better defence thanks to the speed, otherwise it's tough. You can pair a shield with the short blade for better defence and still be able to pull of last- second blocks, but doesn't quite work with the biting edge. But hey, that's how it is for me. If it worked for you right from the start, then good for you.
Great weapon overview! u did forget the ranged weapons special abilities( like machine guns recover OP with each shot) but aside from that it was well done. Been having a blast with the game myself, and my preferred weapons atm are Heavy Moon,Variant Scythe and Ray gun. i'm also experimenting with the Breaking Edge but needs more time. Keep up the good work!
Additional info for sniper. You can make a stealth field by pressing r1+0 on ps4 to avoid detection while aiming for a shot while you can store more op for raygun just like the cannon before
This guide is amazing trying to figure out which weapons i wanna choose but couldn't really pick one. And I been searching forums and all they weren't too helpful with the answers i wanted. And I stumble across this video and it explained everything I wanna hear. Went with the hammer it's crushing blows so powerful and breaks parts easily. I appreciate the video. TY. Subbed
So as a huge monster hunter nerd i've been interested in this series, and as a switchaxe main, the heavy moon just convinced me to try it finally cause that thing looks INSANE
In my first playthough Unga Bunga - Ignores all upgrades sides bare minimum, Neglects ranged, beats game without blocking or diving, scythe user Me going for the plat/Maybe New Game + *I unga, Theirfore I bunga* - Learning weapon upgrades, probbly still gonna ignore ranged,
Jesus i just realized that iv been playing this series for too long.. I master every arc type and gun depending on if aragami are weak against pierce slash and etc and memorise what the weaknesses are.. Wow.. Now theres heavy moon, biting edge and dual blades to master.. Im gonna love making combos with new arcs and gun types..
God Eater, Lord of Apocalypse and Toukiden stood the same ground as Monster Hunter back on the PSP era and was considered as the best MonHun clones with unique identity. Especially God Eater, who had a special place in my heart as it is the first game I played before discovering MonHun and becoming my favorite game series of all time.
I'm a noob but I'm liking the knife a lot. Honestly I appreciate that the weapons in this game are relatively easy to pick up and get all the moves down for compared to Mon Hun where I feel like I need to spend 10 hours with something just to get the basic flow of it.
Nikolai Rose nah, learning how to use the weapon is one thing in MH, learning how to effectively use it in combat is another in endgame solo. Especially switchaxe with its lack of mobility, so you’d have to be on point with your positioning, at least that’s how it’s been since mh3u - MHGU can’t speak for mhw since I haven’t played it.
GE1: LONG BLADE GE2: LONG BLADE GE3: DUAL BLADES Lol dual blades is so much fun! Especially when the monster is down and changing to glaive form and spamming the monster with it till it changes red and get more increased dmg... Can easily break 2 monster parts during a single down if spammed at the correct angle...
For GEB I mained Buster and Short blade For GE2RB I mained Variant Scythe and Short Blade For GE3 I'm maining Heavy Moon, Variant Scythe, and Biting Edge
GEB Buster, Short blade and Long blade GE2RB Boost Hammer, Buster, Variant Scythe and Long Blade GE3 Heavy Moon, Boost hammer, Buster and Biting Edge for sure
I would not recommend biting edge at the moment, because for the stamina it eats in both regular and doublesaber/naginata mode is not worth the damage, and out of all of the fast slash archetypes, short blades far outshines the biting edge
only played ge2, but scythe shotgun here. my goal was staying in their face and spike damage. looking at the dual blade here, but the moon does remind me of the switch axe from monster hunter. (im a hunting horn main there, with long sword and dual blade use) i don't know if the mechanics of GE would really support a hunting horn type group buff weapon. since links already kind of do the group buffs thing.
Thanks for making this much appreciated. I've always wanted to play this game and just got it for $4 on eshop using my points . It's only $10 right now thats and awesome deal. They have some killer deals this week , Metro redux and Starwars games are all under or around $10 🤪 At this rate I'm gonna need another memory card.
I mean scythe since GE2 2 itt as the best AOE move and with the right blood art all of your atack restore your HP my second is the hammer but i pretty much play all weapon type plus laser gun " because you can stock amo " and the bigger shield im still active on this game i play the Switch version regulary " i use to play on PlayStation 4 before the update that ave censor the game and change ALOT of dialogue with our daughter character ... Bassically in this game you end up being a dad/mom but every dialogue like " Dady/momy i love you!! " ave ben censored from the PlayStation version now we are only her bodyguard ... The switch version dont ave that censorship
Recently i finished GE2RB and now start to play this part. From the experience of previous game, i think the best weapons for best first playthrough is Short Blade in beginning and Variant Scythe in mid/lategame. Learning moveset of enemies with short blade and bring huge dps with variant scythe, using special ability. I enjoy 1 and 2 of series and hope that one will not disappoint me.
that was my thought too, so its dual blade and insect glaive without the bug. I dunno, some people like the bug, but it always felt silly to me. i want to be Darth maul, not a falconer- entymologist.
@John Johnson yeah so its basically dual swords from mhw and the glaive form is like the demon form of the dual blades in MHW you switch to demon form, button mash, switch to dual blades to regenerate stamina and repeat
*I still remember this game has only 3...* When my psp broke along with my game progress on god eater 1... _I didn't repared it... Such a pity Im very poor so can't afford another psp.._😆😂😅😅
If you're only using basic attacks, just use the spear with its heavy attacks. Trust me. I've been testing these stuff since Gods Eater Burst. If you only like using basic attacks in: Gods Eater Burst = Long Blade God Eater Resurrection = Variant Scythe God Eater 2 Rage Burst = Variant Scythe God Eater 3 = Spear They nerfed Variant Scythe in God Eater 3
Really feel like the Ray Gun's reserve ammo should've been mentioned in this, it's unique from the other guns in that fact. You can store up to 2 full OP gauges that will come into effect when you deplete your OP bar allowing you to stay at maximum beam strength for a very long time. Great when using strong bullets that exploit enemies weakness and if you can keep the beam in their weak spots.
Correction 3 gauges actually, and can get up to 450 if you max your Oracle level to 10 allowing you to hold a total of 450 OP! However the downside of this weapon is that its use of reserve make the gun frame shorter then have a long firing sequence, requiring people to trade the damage output of the gun for better stamina handling, making it only friendly for weapons that doesn't consume a lot of stamina.
This game is badass this will be my first god eatter game I can see myself gettin intwo the tv anime show but I like the fact u can cract your own guy or girl and I’m lovein my switch :)
You should try out the other instalments as well. While God Eater Burst is the vanilla of everything, it is very challenging still. Rage Burst offers Blood Arts and the Rage Burst mechanic (very late into the story), which is highly customizable and offers a variety of playstyle. And they have a very much detailed story which is very engaging. I suggest playing the latter two before you jump into 3. 😀
This is old but id like to point out that guns have special actiona too. For example the Ray Gun can stock up OP bars up to 2x thus granting 3 bars of OP for ammo
Shoudnt Sheilds be included since the delay of Sheilds also affects the game style of the God eater as well as. Buffs and its uses like: Buckler -quickly deployed but once hit by an aragami it decreases your health and stamina Sheild -a medium sized Sheild that's not fast and not slow as its damage is lesser than what the buckler can resist Tower sheild -one of the most slowest but toughest Sheild as it dosent decrease your health but it also decrease your stamina In conclusion, all stats have an effect to the game style of the God eater and how the use it and mix it with their combos against their foes
Regular Shield was great man , they legit had best skillset that makes them can block as fast as buckler, speeds up weapon changing , and boosts devour OP steal.
Long blade Addition : you can use zero stance to extend your ground combos simultaneously. Short blade Addition : after attacking, short blade special moves (not rising edge) allows the wielder to immediately step back and forth Buster blade Addition : your shield can be immediately deployed right after attacking or you can just guard parry (remember, guard parry will not work against certain aragami moves, it requires full shield to do so)
This is such a whiplash jump from the measly Knife, Long Blade and Buster Sword of old Last I played God Eater I just use Long Sword/Knife and Assault Rifle and that's it
I thought i would hate the dual blades, i enjoyed long blades in EVERY G.E. so i was prepared to do it again. However something drew me to the dual blades and i have NEVER looked back.
Scythe, Heavy Moon, Biting edge, with either, Shield, or Tower Shield and Lazer Build. I'd like to know the best endgame builds for as such, wanna break away from Restalph Gear. Thanks!
I prefer quick hits because I rely on dodging than blocking to get out of harm’s way, although since the spear has a back step feature I’ll consider that too. Must decide...

Custom bullets now don't consume OP and have an ammo based on the modules used
gatling, shotgun, sniper and laser...there bomb and flame bullet
Remember The old Days, There's only 3 Type of Melee, and all guns can use all Variety Type
It died, and i was like "dude... the head is not yet broken, why you do this?"
I thought this blast gun meta will be back to this game but hey, i kinda like it since it is gone.

For my Monster Hunter and Dauntless friends out there who still don’t know where they should start, these are my recommendations:
*Monster Hunter*
SnS: Short Blade
GS: Buster Sword
LS: Short and Long Blade, Scythes
DB: Biting Edge, Short Blade
IG: Charge Spear
Switch Axe: Scythes, Charge Spear
CB: Heavy Moon
Hammer and HH: Boost-Hammer
LBG: Shotgun, Assault, Laser
HBG: Shotgun, Sniper, Laser
Bow: Shotgun, Assault
*Dauntless*
Sword: Short and Long Blade
Hammer: Boost Hammer, full stop
Chainblades: Short Blade, Biting Edge, Charge Spear, Scythe
Strikers: Biting Edge, Boost Hammer
Warpike: Charge Spear, Scythe
Axe: Heavy Moon, Buster Sword, Scythe
Repeaters: Assault, Laser
or just pick whatever n roll with it
My hero.❤😊
Thanks for making such a helpful guide to all the weapons. I've been looking for a video like this. Great stuff!
For me i like the variant scythe, heavy moon, and biting edge. Im a heavy attacker when it comes to these games. Love this game
I've watched 6 of your videos in the past 3 days all for different games. Screw it I'm subbing
Ohdamn, you went and spent your permanently limited subbing energy.
I'm definitly gonna go wreck shop with the Biting Edge👌
*_Don't use Variant Scythe._*
You honestly don't even NEED guns this time around, but honestly, if you're using anything other than Ray Gun you're missing out.
Is this a game where the meta matters? Or is it like MHW where 90% of the weapons can solo everything in under 5 mins so it doesn't matter
Mmmmmm, the Heavy Moons looks to combine my 2 favorite things in GE2RB. The Multi hits from Variant scythe and the crushing power of Boost Hammer
I've been a HUGE Boost Hammer, and Short Blade fan since Resurection!
You can make a stealth field by pressing r1+0 on ps4 to avoid detection while aiming for a shot while you can store more op for raygun just like the cannon before
I sense some broken lasers inbound
Additionally you can use the shotgun special action as a way to traverse large distances at almost not stamina cost.
been sticking to the long blade since the first game! loving the zero stance infinite combo
In my first playthough
Unga Bunga - Ignores all upgrades sides bare minimum, Neglects ranged, beats game without blocking or diving, scythe user
Me going for the plat/Maybe New Game +
*I unga, Theirfore I bunga* - Learning weapon upgrades, probbly still gonna ignore ranged,
So far my favorite weapon is the short blade because it can dodge very quickly and do a lot of slash combos.
This game looks so cool I can’t wait to play it also thanks for this guide I think I’ll be using the scythe weapons

Love the moon blade to death, was an instant fav after I unlocked it
Thank you very much! This helped me to figure out the order I'm going to try each distinctive style.
God Eater, Lord of Apocalypse and Toukiden stood the same ground as Monster Hunter back on the PSP era and was considered as the best MonHun clones with unique identity.
Especially God Eater, who had a special place in my heart as it is the first game I played before discovering MonHun and becoming my favorite game series of all time.
my playstyle through out the GE series:
GE1: Short sword/Assault gun
GE2 - GE1 Re: Long sword/Shotgun
GE3: Biting Edge/Shotgun
You forgot about the new thing they added to
Buster blade where you
Can cancel the end lag from a charge slash by guarding
from god eater 1 even until now i'm still enjoy using knife lol
I'm a noob but I'm liking the knife a lot. Honestly I appreciate that the weapons in this game are relatively easy to pick up and get all the moves down for compared to Mon Hun where I feel like I need to spend 10 hours with something just to get the basic flow of it.
@Nikolai Rose yeah in the previous god eater games, it called knife
Something else I read: apparently they're pretty good for dealing status effects. Like Kigurumi's poison blade
That short sword is not short....every weapon on here is bigger than a person
Nikolai Rose nah, learning how to use the weapon is one thing in MH, learning how to effectively use it in combat is another in endgame solo. Especially switchaxe with its lack of mobility, so you’d have to be on point with your positioning, at least that’s how it’s been since mh3u - MHGU can’t speak for mhw since I haven’t played it.
Great video, after watching this I'm going to get this game for sure
Saw it on sale on steam. And got this sweet sweet game
GE1: LONG BLADE

GE3 Heavy Moon, Boost hammer, Buster and Biting Edge for sure
wow, we have the same exact mains.
I would not recommend biting edge at the moment, because for the stamina it eats in both regular and doublesaber/naginata mode is not worth the damage, and out of all of the fast slash archetypes, short blades far outshines the biting edge
Buster main up to ge2rb
Newly dubbed heavy moon main in 3
only played ge2, but scythe shotgun here. my goal was staying in their face and spike damage. looking at the dual blade here, but the moon does remind me of the switch axe from monster hunter. (im a hunting horn main there, with long sword and dual blade use) i don't know if the mechanics of GE would really support a hunting horn type group buff weapon. since links already kind of do the group buffs thing.

Bassically in this game you end up being a dad/mom but every dialogue like " Dady/momy i love you!! " ave ben censored from the PlayStation version now we are only her bodyguard ... Just got the game on sale today. Great video to watch while it's downloading! I think I'll go with the dual blades or the Scythe.
If you're only using basic attacks, just use the spear with its heavy attacks. Trust me. I've been testing these stuff since Gods Eater Burst.
If you only like using basic attacks in:
Gods Eater Burst = Long Blade
God Eater Resurrection = Variant Scythe
God Eater 2 Rage Burst = Variant Scythe
God Eater 3 = Spear
They nerfed Variant Scythe in God Eater 3
This reminds me of phantasy star online. Looks amazing.
Though I'm not saying you can't start with 3 XD

Oh dear. My two favorite monster hunter weapons combined into one. Dual Blades+Glaive form looks super fun.
I really like Biting Edge, Short Sword, Variant Scythe and Long Blade
I was always a long blade main but now I main the biting edge
This is old but id like to point out that guns have special actiona too. For example the Ray Gun can stock up OP bars up to 2x thus granting 3 bars of OP for ammo
Shoudnt Sheilds be included since the delay of Sheilds also affects the game style of the God eater as well as. Buffs and its uses like:
Buckler
-quickly deployed but once hit by an aragami it decreases your health and stamina
Sheild
-a medium sized Sheild that's not fast and not slow as its damage is lesser than what the buckler can resist
Tower sheild
-one of the most slowest but toughest Sheild as it dosent decrease your health but it also decrease your stamina
In conclusion, all stats have an effect to the game style of the God eater and how the use it and mix it with their combos against their foes
Regular Shield was great man , they legit had best skillset that makes them can block as fast as buckler, speeds up weapon changing , and boosts devour OP steal.
Heavy Moon all day though im the type of player who tries to get every single weapon in these types of games
Your a braver man then most of us
Long blade Addition : you can use zero stance to extend your ground combos simultaneously.
Short blade Addition : after attacking, short blade special moves (not rising edge) allows the wielder to immediately step back and forth
Buster blade Addition : your shield can be immediately deployed right after attacking or you can just guard parry (remember, guard parry will not work against certain aragami moves, it requires full shield to do so)
Buster, tower for best tanks
Additional info: short blade also able to do air step
The Long and Short blades have the hardest setup to max out DPS, as opposed to every other weapon. People should keep that in mind.
