ive played it for years, since GE2: Rage Burst. Its definitly a slow start but some later monsters can one shot you if your not careful. also every weapon, gun, and shield are all interchangeable, so you can choose based on your preferred style of play.
The godeaters went from soldiers to prisoners as the Aragami got worse, due to them having a increase in Oracle cells in their body if I remember correctly
Too bad this series is already dead but it really impressive that GE can survive this long considered it been around since PSP. most Monster Hunter Clone only have one or two games and they are gone while GE have 3.
I've played all of the games in the God Eater series, and was shocked to learn that Code Vein had a connection to the same world. The games have way more focus on story than traditional monster hunter, which plays a big role in the pacing and difficulty of early game. It ramps up fast, and you'll be wishing your AI allies were stronger lol.
Code Vein was a prequel? of some sorts. But Code Vein was the only game that has reference to God Eater. It blew my mind when I found out the context. Also for everyone reading this comment. Both games are freakin good.
I remember playing this and platinuming it. Was a fun game, I ended up buying this when it was discounted after I passed Monster hunter world on my ps4. That game did help prepare me in the grind out your weapons types in prep for ge3. I played some of GE1R and was not to finish because the bosses were just sponges and it became a super grind fest. GE3 was much easier for me to play through and with better graphics it made it more fun for me. Was able to pass code vein as well during the start of the pandemic which was also a fun game. Hoping for a code vein 2 or GE4 soon
I have about 500 hours in GE3. God eater is a really great game and I’ve been playing it ever since it first came out, never got bored and I’m always pulled back into playing it.
The best part about God Eater has to be the bullet recipe thing. You can make and design your own bullets or just copy them from the Japanese pros on the Internet. Good time.
i remember playing monster hunter freedom unite and gods eater burst (god eater 1) on my psp. now 13 years later watching your video and playing through monster hunter rise and god eater 3 on my nintendo switch. so awesome!
I think an incredibly huge facet was ignored here, perhaps not explored due to the 2 hour limit self implemented. The Bullet Customization. The Bullet Customization is AMAZING. Truly, if you don't look up guides for making bullet, it would be quite hard to make the same bullet as someone else, as the customization of bullets, while incredibly complex, the potential is actually quite limitless. It is imo better done in God Eater 2 Rage Burst, but 3 does it very well too. Anyone who plays this game, I would highly recommend playing with this feature of customizing bullets, as it's depth is truly one worth exploring in the game.
It's especially good in the older games where your custom bullets ran off of your OP and not a hard cap on how many you brought. In the right hands custom bullets can break the game something fierce.
honestly I never really bothered with the old meteor bullet cheese. I just liked blowing shit up, blast gun was fun as hell once you could make bullets not hit your friends. And I've never not felt satisfied popping a Borg's shield in a couple good shots.
Yeah, they nerfed custom bullets big time. First, they had set ammo instead of running off of your OP, so they were unreliable. Second, they had a hard cap on how many you could bring, and it was stingy. I mean, I've swapped from beams to radials recently and I'm getting way further for my buck outside of a few cases, it's just that I wish I could actually mess with those. So yeah, I hope they bring back Res/RB's bullet system in the future.
I don’t know if you realized it but every weapon has more than just x and y attacks that you can find in the database thing and learn more about them which gives every weapon a lot more depth with their unique abilities
If you played God Eater Resurrection, you will truly know how broken the guns were in that game, especially with the OP short blade you get towards the end of the game.
"...the characters are far from heroic." man, I miss the days when we God Eaters were the heroes /slap'd God Eater Burst was my first monster hunting game and I completely fell in love with the series after that so I'm glad you enjoyed it as well!
Probably one of the best entry points into the Monster hunting genre, more simple than MH but provides a great experience, less of a grind and more fast paced action, a good place to start if you're having trouble getting into World or Rise
I really should give this game another chance. It was just that the premise and theme of the God Eater games were so depressing that I couldn't really handle it at the time.
3 has this extra edgy feeling to it. The older games still have a bit of that, but they're generally more hopeful and the main characters are actually treated like humans instead of them being one huge collective punching bag for assholes I blame the studio change more than anything, 3 was developed mostly by Marvelous since Shift had their hands full making Code Vein
The problem with the companions is that they always operate at the same strength. They don't really get stronger and therefore are already at a pretty high base power in the early game. The difficulty in GE usually comes with the lategame content.
Great vid, u gave the game a fair chance and was unbias which is something many people struggle with. 1 tip I'll give for these videos is to maybe have someone like a guest on so they can give a few pointers, or mixture so first 2 hours solo and another 2 with a guest. This way it'll also show if the game is easy to understand to newcomers and also be a guide for some hidden things that 1 may learn later that can help newer plays 1 example being after u beat the monsters u should use your devour skill(quick or charged) to get materials as monster hunter craves. Now my thoughts on God Eater...I love the series I played resurrection(a remaster for 1) 2 rage burst(which is god eater 2 with an extra arc and a new final boss) and god eater 3. 3 is quite a bit easier compared to resurrection and 2rb but 3 is still a blast to play. 3 is great for newcomers that never played monster hunter style games and I'll say resurrection is the best with 3 a close second.
If you liked hearing how happy he got when he figured out that CodeVein is a far future sequel to God Eater, nobody tell him that Ghost in the Shell started out as a Blade Runner fanfic.
God Eater is honestly my favorite series. The ost composer is probably my favorite composer, I love the story and characters, the enemy designs are awesome, I love the post apocalyptic feel, and the gameplay has so much variety.
Yes and No. If God eater has the free roam concept like Monster Hunter instead a laid out path of story, it probably would be better, but its also the story that made it a fine game.
Fantastic games, been playing them since the very first one which was all bout the bite move having a quick charge lvl 3. 2 was the start of alot of the hunter art/blood art styles, 3 did it but made it better since this are 3rd generation god eater hunters. first gen hunters where pretty basic but op. All of them are slow starts just like old monster hunter games where you its like go get 2 rawr meat and cook and go get 5 herbs ect, mostly to intro you to how small monsters act, but soon enough you will fighting baddies that are faster and stronger and just hit so much harder, and fighting with mutli monsters on the map. Its hella great
IMO God eater 3 is a great game and definitely a must buy when its on discount, not full price (got it for $12 on switch) I didn’t know anything about the God Eater lore or any of the old games and i still had an amazing time with God eater 3. I would say tho that watching the anime made me even more invested into the game.
With that opening cutscene showing you and Hugo roughly the same age (perhaps only a year apart) taking the AGE Aptitude test on the same day and the in-game Database (viewable on the smaller round computer on the left of the big Mission Computer) listing Hugo’s age as 20 years old, I’d say the player character is canonically between 19-21 years old.
An important notice for those who want to try this game for it's online mode. There are very, very few concurrent online players of God Eater 3, so if you want to play online, you'll probably need some friends to play with.
Sad info because one and a half year later there was an active comunity, i want the game but if online game is almost dead maybe its time to look for other games
I personally liked go2 the most but all are good. Also as a scythe user myself there is one particular machanic with the scythe you were not using but still good job. Also the first two games have much more intriguing starts but again all are good.
I really loved this game, loved the customization, and the anime design. One thing that bothered me is the poor online service though. Its so hard to find a match. And once you finish the story there's not really much to do.
Since the PSP days, Freedom Unite, GE: Burst and Wipeout Pure/Pulse were my life. I felt like GE3 was a lot easier but I enjoyed it. Resurrection is my favourite. Really good series overall. Maybe someone said it, but the scythe has a cool combo, you can extend the schythe with R + square and then, triangle, when it hits the terrain, press R + Square again (I think) and you actually do a cool move.
To put plainly, God Eater Burst is what SAVED Monster Hunter for me. I originally despised Monster Hunter, but it was only after playing the first entry that I finally understood how the series was meant to be played. Went back to Monster Hunter later and now it's my favorite game series. I owe God Eater.
21:36 that's kinda how I feel about the buddies in rise. Atleast in the demo.. they seem to do a lot of damage and the amount of times I was setting up to do a really cool kill ending with mizu and it suddenly ended cuz my dog beat the shit out of it is crazy.
Its actually super helpful to know that its better later, A lot of games I often find that a really bad early game just makes me never get to the good part because I stop playing, and then tell people the game sucks, and then they say 'oh well didn't you get to the good part 12 hours in' and I say 'no of course not the game is terrible why would I waste 12 hours on it' and... so on.
i'm in the exact same boat. playing MHGU right now to pass the time til next week. God Eater seems interesting but it's hard to start this up knowing it's only a week til RISE!!!
I love God Eater so much I remember picking the first one (Burst, cause the original never made it state side.) up on a wime at the game store thinking it looked cool and I've never turned back. Purple element is called "Divine". Burst levels past 1 are given to you by other party members by them using their monster bullets from devours. Highly recommend moving the block button in this game, feels like it was crowded out cuz of the block Dash that was added in this game. While this game is good the second is still my personal favorite.
I just watched the MH movie and thought they missed an opportunity to have a grenade type slinger ammo in the unique Artimis quest for MH World. Would have made the quest a bit more exciting if you could find a crashed humvee, loot it and get a grenade item that acts like sonic bombs do, you select it from the item wheel and can launch it at the Rathalos.
I think we will get it and god eater 3 story make ur character goes to fenry now but I think in god eater 4 we will get new character I wonder who our character will be in god eater 4
Played this since God Eater 1 and is quite good fast paced MH. You can program your ammo which is I liked the most (combined all elements+homing+bomb). There’s a lot more features mid to later game. GE3 is the latest one. Toukiden is the ninja MH and was good as well.
God Eater is pretty cool and flashy. But It's not "deep", there's just alot going on. The combat is absolutely amazing. The weapons are cool looking and fluid too. 7/10 MINIMUM 8/10 personally
Thank you for the video, really makes the game feel more tempting to get after being very back and forth with it for ages now Btw in the vid description, first big paragraph starts off calling the game Dauntless not God Eater :P
Well the a place in the terminal you have access to a testing area that allows you to teat out new weapons seeing how much damage range and how the attacks look like over all with guns and all 21:44
Idc what anybody says, god eater 3 is fun as hell. It doesn't have the longevity or depth of a game like monster hunter, but the controls are great and progression isnt bad.
Well yeah in this game you're the prisoner on the way to the suicide mission, but if you want to go back to the older version you are nobody become a special force (like a swat team that hunt giant creature) by matching your blood sample to the weapon and become a hero
I may be the only one but I am really hoping that we get a review of Toukiden 2. I love the series and loved the fast pace fighting style. It was the only think I actually liked more about it than monster hunter. The weapons all felt unique and the mitama spirits gave you your own play style
Having played the God Eater series, Yes it is absolutely possible to do missions solo, heck the qualification missions force solo play. I do agree early game is a bit awkward but its is also geared towards being new player friendly (ie. someone who has never played this kind of game before to ease them into it). This game also does have a grind that can be rather harsh as well especially when farming materials. Now this is of my opinion and my opinion alone but GE3 is the pinnacle of the series and 1&2 and their remastered counterparts tend to be lacking. All in all the god eater series is a fun set of games to play.
"This game also does have a grind that can be rather harsh" oh don't get me started on that! at least some materials can be exchanged for certain rare items but yeah, God Eater and Monster Hunter are very similar in that case!
it starts with god eater 3, Bandai Namco starts releasing game that looks alike but play differently because if it ain't broke, don't fix it..cant wait to play Scarlet Nexus next!
I played God Eater Burst once until the end game. As a "Monster hunter" like game, GE is really good imo. I like the story, and the weapon mechanic that can change from melee to ranged or shield mode. The only thing that I don't like from GE is some of the monster (aragami) design sometimes feels too weird.
My only problem in God Eater is the chat boxes you need to go to first inorder to continue the story. You can’t hunt without talking to the necessary npc though it’s good for the story.
thanks for playing it. not expecting you playing tge 3rd one. its really fun, from bullet customization and the battle system. its pretty nice. thing i dont like from GE games is their map are too small, they need to expand it more. oh yeah, your defense calculated with your shield, so your appereance just a cosmetic, good for fashion. i really want to know josh and catton opinion about this game.
I'm unsure if you already found out already , but yeah you can solo hunt in the game if you want to, but it depends on the mission. I know most side mission that is not a story mission you can choose to hunt alone.
I couldn't get into it whilst playing the demo but that might be because monster hunter is in my comfort zone and we all know how time consuming these type of games can be.
This is a really good game. Not as polished as MH World or smth, but still is a lot of fun. All the weapons I've tried are good so far: buster feels heavy and powerful monstrosity, long blade is an agile multi purpose tool, scythe can easily cover the pack of aragami and a heavy moon is just a pure freaking carnage I sure am waiting for GE4
I love god eater 3, i found it a lot of fun. My only gripe is that in endgame the Arigami die a bit too fast, but i enjoy fighting them regardless. I love that you can block and parry with all weapons.
God Eater Fan here, just wanted to make a few clarifications/note some things both gone over and not gone over in the video for anyone interested. Firstly, God Eater is way more Story and Character driven and focused. God Eater 3 is the easiest GE game in my own opinion. 1 and 2 are harder but also don't have some of the QoL feature that make 3 enjoyable to play (such as its faster pace) however, a bit of difficulty is survival missions of which you do multiple hunts back to back without healing up or restoring items, with the exception of your NPC's abilities Any melee weapon can be used with any ranged weapon and any shield type It was skipped over but bullet customization is a thing. You can go very in depth customizing bullets which leads to OP bullets. So much so they removed a gun type between GE2 and 3 because of it Link Rounds are obtained from devouring and can either be used to fire a moderately powerful shot or give your allies burst. It also levels them up from level 1 to 2, and 2 to 3 Speaking of burst, burst enhances damage, allows you to double jump, and allows you to use burst arts in GE3 Not shown but every weapon has more to their moveset, for example the Scythe has an extended reach combo sequence than can be done that consumes stamina for each swing Also devouring a monster is GE's equivalent of carving, but only needs to be done once Engage is exclusive to GE3 and shares buffs between party members Also exclusive to GE3 is the dive mechanic (the shield charge) which allows you to follow monsters easier and travel faster. Part of why the game is easier but also more enjoyable to play in my opinion, though GE2 is my personal favorite. Overall, I really like God Eater, but that's probably my bias from playing it before I played Monster Hunter. I'd recommend people give it a try though. The demo for GE3 should still be on PC/Consoles if you want to give it a try and see how it feels.
i think one thing you missed out you can create your own bullet with combining and Programming how you like or the game let you but i love your review and can totaly agree with you and your arguments. Its kinda Sad this Game never would be released on Xbox, mainly on Playstation until part 3 because sony wants it to be exclusive.

ive played it for years, since GE2: Rage Burst. Its definitly a slow start but some later monsters can one shot you if your not careful. also every weapon, gun, and shield are all interchangeable, so you can choose based on your preferred style of play.
Watching that burst level 2 run out really hurt lol
Eh play these games enough, and you essentially can make it to the point you have burst from the moment you start a fight till the moment you end of
Just keep passing your bullets to your allies as well

Rise looks beastly! I played the demo, and Magnamalo is HARD. I’ve barely slain monsters in 20 mins.
The godeaters went from soldiers to prisoners as the Aragami got worse, due to them having a increase in Oracle cells in their body if I remember correctly
Let's just say the world from ge 2 to 3 is just the world goes to shit. It's like the post post apocalypse.

Biting Edge literally shreds Aragami in glaive form.
Hoo boi dont get me started on them moon combos
There are some combos you can make where you just sit behind a monster and do shit tons of damage
Too bad this series is already dead but it really impressive that GE can survive this long considered it been around since PSP. most Monster Hunter Clone only have one or two games and they are gone while GE have 3.
Currently playing God Eater Resurrection and I'm loving it
Best game in the series
13:17 I think there are more kinds of those shots later in the story 😂
It's a great game, I have it on the Switch, I love the customisation for each weapon, it's quite amazing.
lol I was wrong about this game it's great
Answering your thumbnail : YES
The best part about God Eater has to be the bullet recipe thing. You can make and design your own bullets or just copy them from the Japanese pros on the Internet. Good time.
GE is pretty fun. Actually been playing it a lot waiting for MHR.
I was looking into this. Glad you did a video, so now I can have a better grasp on if I want to purchase it or not
11:01 thats the most monster hunter thing I've heard
i remember playing monster hunter freedom unite and gods eater burst (god eater 1) on my psp. now 13 years later watching your video and playing through monster hunter rise and god eater 3 on my nintendo switch.
In the right hands custom bullets can break the game something fierce.
better in GE2RB. so good that they have to remove blasters because of "meteor bullet" becoming instant NUKE button
honestly I never really bothered with the old meteor bullet cheese. I just liked blowing shit up, blast gun was fun as hell once you could make bullets not hit your friends. And I've never not felt satisfied popping a Borg's shield in a couple good shots.
well, disappointing that it's proven to be not a feature kept.
Yes I love the God eater series it's something that I can't stop playing and loving
Is definitely one game I’ve wanted to play and never thought of it as a Monster Hunter type game but now just want to play it even more.
"...the characters are far from heroic."
man, I miss the days when we God Eaters were the heroes /slap'd
God Eater Burst was my first monster hunting game and I completely fell in love with the series after that so I'm glad you enjoyed it as well!
The older games still have a bit of that, but they're generally more hopeful and the main characters are actually treated like humans instead of them being one huge collective punching bag for assholes
I blame the studio change more than anything, 3 was developed mostly by Marvelous since Shift had their hands full making Code Vein
@@Mr._Sherwood One word: Phym
Yes, God eater recognition!
Yup
It's unfortunate that within 2hrs he didn't realize he wasn't making full use of the scythe.
Good luck with your NPC's in later missions though.
Good timing, I've been thinking about playing this
The problem with the companions is that they always operate at the same strength. They don't really get stronger and therefore are already at a pretty high base power in the early game. The difficulty in GE usually comes with the lategame content.
Bullet crafting
I always end up spending more time crafting bullets than actually playing 😆
You forgot to mention the ample plot of characters in your final review.
I do love me some plot. Although it must make the backstory suffer a bit.
Yes and No.
If God eater has the free roam concept like Monster Hunter instead a laid out path of story, it probably would be better, but its also the story that made it a fine game.
maybe if they include code vein group race
I hope so I just bought it on switch for about 9 bucks lmao
lol. a similar sale is the only reason I'm considering it right now. thanks for your comment

I've been seeing this game and really tempted to get it for a long time. If rise wasn't about to release, I'd probably try it.
I really loved this game, loved the customization, and the anime design.
One thing that bothered me is the poor online service though. Its so hard to find a match. And once you finish the story there's not really much to do.
The boss lady is worth the purchase alone.
Next installment or update, I want them to bring back gauntlet weapon ( in previous interview, they were planned but had to be scrapped).
I think you're meant to act more as support while your monsties do the real damage.
@@thelonemask lol it feels that way sometimes

Its actually super helpful to know that its better later, A lot of games I often find that a really bad early game just makes me never get to the good part because I stop playing, and then tell people the game sucks, and then they say 'oh well didn't you get to the good part 12 hours in' and I say 'no of course not the game is terrible why would I waste 12 hours on it' and... so on.

Solo hunting is a thing in this game but for the harder missions it's best to do as a group. I've come completed new game and new game+🦊
As an avid God Eater fan, I wish the anime would be extended and continued into the GE 2/3 story arcs
I have this game and I've been waiting to play it. Seems like it'll be pretty fun, but I probably won't get into it too much with Rise coming soon.
i'm in the exact same boat. playing MHGU right now to pass the time til next week.
I really hope we'll get a GE4 one day
I think we will get it and god eater 3 story make ur character goes to fenry now but I think in god eater 4 we will get new character I wonder who our character will be in god eater 4

Can’t wait to see you guys try the bahamute alternates that thing will reck your health bar if your not careful
I’ve played all god eater games
Theres one more moveset by Holding down the light attack button with R1
My only problem in God Eater is the chat boxes you need to go to first inorder to continue the story. You can’t hunt without talking to the necessary npc though it’s good for the story.
thanks for playing it.
not expecting you playing tge 3rd one.
its really fun, from bullet customization and the battle system.
its pretty nice.
thing i dont like from GE games is their map are too small, they need to expand it more.
oh yeah, your defense calculated with your shield, so your appereance just a cosmetic, good for fashion.
i really want to know josh and catton opinion about this game.
they actually did a Pro and Noon series on it but stopped pretty quickly, not sure why they stopped
Hollow: Burst Arts are like hunter arts

This is a really good game. Not as polished as MH World or smth, but still is a lot of fun. All the weapons I've tried are good so far: buster feels heavy and powerful monstrosity, long blade is an agile multi purpose tool, scythe can easily cover the pack of aragami and a heavy moon is just a pure freaking carnage
I sure am waiting for GE4
I love god eater 3, i found it a lot of fun. My only gripe is that in endgame the Arigami die a bit too fast, but i enjoy fighting them regardless. I love that you can block and parry with all weapons.
Also solo hunting is something you can do later on.
God Eater Fan here, just wanted to make a few clarifications/note some things both gone over and not gone over in the video for anyone interested.
Firstly, God Eater is way more Story and Character driven and focused.
God Eater 3 is the easiest GE game in my own opinion. 1 and 2 are harder but also don't have some of the QoL feature that make 3 enjoyable to play (such as its faster pace) however, a bit of difficulty is survival missions of which you do multiple hunts back to back without healing up or restoring items, with the exception of your NPC's abilities
Any melee weapon can be used with any ranged weapon and any shield type
It was skipped over but bullet customization is a thing. You can go very in depth customizing bullets which leads to OP bullets. So much so they removed a gun type between GE2 and 3 because of it
Link Rounds are obtained from devouring and can either be used to fire a moderately powerful shot or give your allies burst. It also levels them up from level 1 to 2, and 2 to 3
Speaking of burst, burst enhances damage, allows you to double jump, and allows you to use burst arts in GE3
Not shown but every weapon has more to their moveset, for example the Scythe has an extended reach combo sequence than can be done that consumes stamina for each swing
Also devouring a monster is GE's equivalent of carving, but only needs to be done once
Engage is exclusive to GE3 and shares buffs between party members
Also exclusive to GE3 is the dive mechanic (the shield charge) which allows you to follow monsters easier and travel faster.
Guard points are op fun fact
Especially against devour attacks.
i think one thing you missed out you can create your own bullet with combining and Programming how you like or the game let you but i love your review and can totaly agree with you and your arguments. Its kinda Sad this Game never would be released on Xbox, mainly on Playstation until part 3 because sony wants it to be exclusive.
I wish they continue their god eater series
If you use rb and heavy on scythe you get an infinite combo
