    [AMAZON KINDLE PAPERWHITE SIGNATURE EDITION REVIEW]
    Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is the most comfortable e-reader I’ve ever used. With a display diagonal of 6.8 inches it’s big enough to read easily, without being so big that you can’t fit it into a pocket (albeit an oversized one). I miss the light weight and the more aggressive design of the Kindle Oasis I reviewed a few years back, but I don’t miss those things enough to make me want to spend over a hundred bucks more for them. The Kindle Paperwhite is Amazon's midrange option, and while I’ve lost interest in that category when it comes to phones, where e-readers are concerned I think the midrange is probably the sweet spot. I'm Michael Fisher; join me for MrMobile's Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition review!

      I got mine 2 days back. For me the biggest upside is the paper feel. So comfortable to the eye. I used to read on an ipad and phone before this. Comfort wise, it’s not even a competition. It’s day and night difference. If you like reading, a lot, e-ink. You need it. Thank me later.

      Same here. I only take my paperwhite to the pool or the beach but that is about it. I also don't see much reason to keep upgrading it. The only reason I upgraded a couple of years ago is that I lost my first gen device. This new version looks cool but it is basically the same as the first gen device I was using until 2019.

      @@Dragon1276 You're misrepresenting his point in a boorish attempt to be smart. The point is that you can fit a staggering collection of books on a small device, which, if you're strapped for space or not wanting a lot of things in your home, it's a fantastic thing to have. I have a hybrid library, but I'm much more selective about which books I buy to display on my shelf than the books I download for my digital library. Also, having an e-reader is great if you want to preserve the condition of your books. I read my physical books at home, but when I travel or am on my lunch break, I break out my e-reader because it's smaller, lighter, and more durable to take with me than a book. If you think such a device is too expensive, that's fine, but there are plenty of of us like what this kind of technology has to offer, and there's enough of us who continue to support this kind of technology.

    • @Dragon1276
      @Dragon1276 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Vipercobra88 girl, you are PRESSED! Buying books to “to display”, and miss thing tells ME I’m boorish? Sister, there’s a reason why everyone gave up on eReaders: consumers didn’t find them cost-effective. eBooks aren’t cheaper than physical copies, they aren’t your property (Amazon famously deleted everyone’s copy of “1984”), they can’t be resold, and the lending scheme is restrictive.
      I think maybe you should really think about gaining some culture and visit a library. Books arent just decorative items, even if that’s why YOU buy them.

    The temptation of wanting to check something else is always at the back of my mind when I use my phone/ipad for reading even when DND is enabled and it always distracts my horrible attention span. I don't get such urges when I'm on the kindle and it makes me go to sleep with a peace of mind.

    I’m an avid reader, and I just made the switch to e-readers (I like the Kobo Libra 2 better than any Kindle model, but to each their own). I was very skeptical about them, as I love the feel of physical books, but it’s become difficult finding time to read over the last few years. After 2 weeks with an e-reader, I couldn’t be happier! The amount I read every day has skyrocketed. I didn’t miss the feel of a book in my hand as much as I thought I would, at all. In fact, I actively look forward to picking up my Kobo. Whichever e-reader you choose, just get one. You’ll love it.

    I just recently bought the previous version of paper white (at a steep discount) after not having an reader for a good 10 years and I absolutely adore it. I used to absolutely demolish books when I was younger but in recent years I have struggled to reignite that passion. Ive had smartphones and tablets/iPads pretty much that entire but the reading experience on those is just not on par. I did read one ebook on my iPad Pro 12.9 before buying the kindle and the mini LED screen was pleasant enough to look at while reading but the sheer enormity of it meant I had to do so while curled up on the couch and resting the iPad on my legs. Since buying the kindle I haven't been able to stop myself from reading and honestly I would recommend an reader to anyone in a similar situation to me.

    After finally getting one in decent condition at a bargain price, you know what my favourite kindle is? The Kindle DX. Yes, despite its old age and limitations. I just love that big screen - especially since I peruse lots of PDFs and manuals on a regular basis.

    As someone who works in IT (and likes playing video games), reading is one of the time in a day that I consider as rest for my eyes. So after looking at screen almolst whole day - yea, I enjoy the hour or two without screens that hurts my eyes, with a book or e-reader. I can't see myself starring at those small letters on phone.

    (2:40) It appears to be a cost-cutting measure. The mainboard takes up the bottom half behind the display, so putting the power button on the bottom keeps it on the mainboard without running a long ribbon cable up to the top. I prefer how Boox managed to put their (Poke series) power button at the top!
    _(EDIT 5 months after posting: Running a long ribbon cable to the top was what Amazon actually did with the power button on the Kindle Voyage!)_
    (6:30) Michael, I can understand why you don't really want to get one! It reminds me of how, as someone with autism, I can't use regular Kindle/Kobo e-readers as my primary e-readers, and tend to prefer Boox e-readers instead for a feature ditched on Kindle e-readers back in 2013: active content, or applications.

    I finally broke down this summer and got a Kindle Oasis after doing some research into all e-readers. I can't say enough good things about it. After using it for 4 months I can also say that I agree with everything in your review, even if I take exception with your preference to reading on phones and tablets. Sore eyes and piling up battery charging cycles on a $1000+ device just to read doesn't feel right to me. E-ink makes it so easy on the eyes and the lack of other internals makes it easier on the hands (weight savings). This is especially true given that the first book I bought was one I hadn't read since school, The Fountainhead...a tome that were it in its physical form, would have doubled as a nightly forearm workout. Since then, I've gone through 5 of the 7 Foundation books from Asimov in preparation to be underwhelmed by Apple TVs rendition (oiy). I have many physical books, but I don't think I'm ever going back to reading on those anymore than on ipad/phones. I am keeping them around though, for when the zombie apocalypse knocks out the power.

Battery life is still amazing to me because I only do the basics on this Kindle. Such as ebooks, emails, surfing and some streaming. I dont play games or video chat. I just wished those paperwhite ereaders were a littlen cheaper because I got this Kindle Fire HD for only $27 on prime day and I got the exclusive blue teal colored one too. lol Great review by the way.

    I get the points you make against getting one of these when you own an ipad or a tablet that can run kindle, but nothing beats reading e-ink on a sunny day or when your eyes are tired. And I mean, if you can have the luxury of having both a tablet and a kindle, problem solved.

    • @user-sf9gs2pg1b
      @user-sf9gs2pg1b 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. I have several reasons for why I’m getting one.
      I have an iPad Pro, and it’s just heavy (with a case) making it super difficult to read on. Plus, even at the lowest brightness it can be rough feeling on my eyes. The Kindle just looks much nicer.
      I get distracted with notifications on my iPad, and the games on it. Not to mention, it dies faster than the Kindle, so having the option to use the Kindle in place of my iPad for reading allows me to persevere the battery life on my iPad.
      I take public transit, I’ll have to take 1 hour there and 1 hour back. I’d rather have a cheaper Kindle out on the bus than an expensive iPad in case I drop it or robbery.
      All that being said, my iPad is still useful. I mostly draw, take class notes, game, and watch stuff on there. It’s so good for doing class work in bed when I can’t be bothered bc I’m lazy, lol.
      So yeah, weight, battery life, less-likely to get robbed for, and more distraction-free. The Kindle is great for that.

    • @AgentZeroNine1
      @AgentZeroNine1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Been doing that since 2018 (or 2019?). Initially, the USB-C ports (not so much the cables) were a problem for me due to some of them being limited by excluding either data, charging, and/or video.
      Since 2020, USB-C ports have been pretty solid and super convenient, especially if you have a modern USB-C equipped laptop and a USB-C desktop monitor to connect it to. Bluetooth 5.x lightens the necessity of the port when it comes to some accessories.
      All that's left is USB Type-C 2.1 for 240W charging + Thunderbolt 5 for 80Gbps data transfer speeds to make eGPU viable. Hopefully USB4.1 (or whatever it'll be called) will be home to both.

    I agree with you on the USB C thing. I straight up do not buy new devices with micro USB. I despise that port and was thrilled when I finally was able to switch fully to USB C. It being less prone to breaking is the main reason for that. I honestly don't care about the wireless charging thing though. You barely ever have to charge these so the benefits of wireless aren't nearly as evident as in something like a phone

    This looks nice and getting rid of my final Micro-USB charger is appealing, but don't think it's enough of an upgrade from my Kindle Voyager. Not sure why they discontinued that line, I like the page-turn buttons on the sides that the Paperwhite doesn't have.
    Now if someone made an e-ink e-reader with the form factor of the Surface Duo (two screens so you get a book-like feel), I would be all over it. I _love_ reading on my Duo, but e-ink and the lack of distractions of an e-reader is what I need. Having the Duo slightly bent and cradling it in the palm of one hand is a nicer feeling than clutching the side of a tablet.
