What do you think? Is the generac a good alternative to the Honda or would you buy a different model all together or stick with Honda…??
Need long term info . Btw, i hoped u can stay quiet for a minute in the video so that i can compare ac sound and generator sound. Or u can play music for a comparison
If you need it seldom or noise is not a concern get the cheaper one if you run it at a camping area/near your RV definitely the honda.
Honda all the way! Worth every penny!
I’d stick with Honda. I also have an 11kw Generac as a back up house generator. It five years old and hardly ever gets used and already leaks oil………
not for double the money
I bought a Honda 3500 watt portable generator in 2004. It never let me down. Even after having it stored with fuel (and stabilizer) for 4 years it still started on the first pull.
Honda engines are legendary. Cost more but trouble free.
"buy once, cry once" ... especially with a piece of equipment that will literally be keeping the lights on... or not ;)
*A quiet **Generater.Systems** , love the dual fuel capabilities, camper is 50 amp but the adapter helps and found it still handles the load. Haven't taken a camping trip yet, that's in a couple of weeks. Will see how well it does over a long weekend.*
A lot of variables there. But mainly any type of inverter generator as they have controls on the carburetor to adjust the engine speed up and down. So on low loads it will drop down engine rpm to a little above idle thus saving fuel.
I service all size generators for a living and at the beginning of summer the largest cable company contacted my company to service about 60 little guys like these. They had 29 Hondas and 27 Generacs. After these very abused units were serviced, 26 of those Hondas worked perfect. Only 7... 7 of the Generacs were 100% after the services. The rest needed parts or outright need replaced. So I'd advise anyone buying one of these little guys, if you're going to use it a lot and even abused it, buy the Honda.
Agree the Honda is definitely built for all conditions and abuse but always good to but the appropriate size as well.
But the cheaper I think are best for the occasional rec user.
Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 👍🏼😀
How many hrs on them?
@@tomzhang8675 none of them have hour meters installed, but I would say with their age and how they use them most often, avg runtime of 2-3 hours during each heavy storm, the Hondas probably have 1200-1500 hours while the working Generacs (two years newer) probably in the 900-1200 range. That's if they're used evenly. While servicing them, the guys would literally wait until I finished with a Honda before taking a working Generac. If that holds true when I'm not there, Generac use case and hours would go down but quite a bit.
Daniel Hopkins i c. As fsr as u know, how many hrs can a honda last before completely dead?
I have read of replies from Honda owners with over 3000 hrs on the small 2000 and the bigger 3000. They said they have hour meters from what they said but I have no proof just from what they said. 3000 isn’t bad or unlikely with proper care and not abused, basically not running over 90% of rated power all the time.
But the 2200 really is a beast for what it is. Wish they had a 2500.
I’ve had my Honda EU2200i for 5 years now. Great generator. Just this winter we lost power for 4 days at the cottage. It ran 24/7 straight. Powered the fridge/freezer, lights. No issues at all. Low oil automatic shut off worked great (that was my fault). Very little maintenance needed. It’s just a great machine. I find the fuel consumption is very good also. Thinking of buying a second one for parallel use.
My EU2200i ran 24 hours for 4 days last couple days without any problem (using Propane) ... 1 tank 20 lbs can run for 30 hours. I love this Honda now.
I repair generators. Generac inverters are unreliable. Engines are great, but their inverter boards are low quality and prone to failure. New boards run $450 plus. Spend the money and buy the Honda. Trust me.
So far not impressed with the generac. Good engine yes which is just a Yamaha engine basically but so far…ehhhh.
Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 👍🏼😀
Do the small Generac generators use the Chinese Durac engine?
They use the same as predator which is the Rato from what I remember
i have a few hundred hours on my craftsman 2200i (generac gp2200i rebranded) and it still runs like a dream
What would you say about Champion?
I owned a Honda generator (2000) in the late 1980s - 90s for eight years total. I used to to detail cars mobile for 6-10 hours a day. Then I sold that business along with the generator. 15 years later I called the guy to see how he was doing. Generator still running fine. Thousands and thousands of hours. Decades of use. Always started on the first pull. Absolutely amazing.
That’s awesome, cool to hear the stories on how well they are doing. They do run for ever if you take care of them.
This is my experience with the Honda as well. If you are looking to buy a portable, just do yourself a HUGE favor and buy the Honda. It just works forever...
I put an eu3000 in a semi. It ran for over six years running eight to ten hours a night five days a week. And it’s quieter than a 13000.00 tri-pac.
Excellent unbiased review! Finally a reviewer who uses a professional sound pressure level meter, electrical load meter and real world testing parameters. Fast paced and concise. Very impressive. Very informative. Thank you.
Your welcome, I try to keep everything unbiased with a comparison or just a overview of the product, then it’s your choice if it fits your needs. 👍🏼😀
Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching. 💪🏼👍🏼
I went a different direction with a Yamaha EF2800i about 10 years ago, they are a little more expensive but it still always starts first pull when needed a decade later and has never had any issues.
Those are kinda like the Honda 3000is but from the early days. They are tanks and run for ever.
Good unit. Just heavy and wish it had more power. But it will probably run for another 10-20 years…🤷🏼♂️
Was a laborer on a power plant ,my job was to keep the two 5500 watt Honda’s with gas and oil ,those generators ran 8-10 hours a day for 3 1/2 yrs some times 7 days a week ,only shut down for 1/2 lunch , carpenters drill ,saws electricians pipe benders .... never changed oil as the boss said we don’t have time for that ,when it’s a $ 27 mil job ,still started first pull ,zero problems
Wow, abuse lol. That’s awesome I like to see machines just get worked and still keep going. That’s engineering and craftsmanship. Like stuff from the 50’s and 60’s, old electric pumps and such or old generators, stuff just keeps working.
Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 👍🏼😀
I would have changed the oil anyway, screw em
@@copisetic1104 Absolutely agreed. It takes 5 mins. No way an employees 5 mins of hourly wage is worth... what are these, $1300 here in Canada?
To busy to take 5min to change the oil?!??!? Do they know how much money they will lose with a broken generator...
Daaamn
I've been having my Honda EU 2200 for 7 years now and never had a problem with it. They are reliable generators and you can't go wrong with owning one.
I love my 2200 only wish it was a 2500. Few more amps to run a 15k ac unit would be nice. It’s starts and runs it but in the heat it’s maxed and only really burning it up.
Could have easily been a 2500 in its current setup. Other then that it’s a great unit.
@@johnnysweekends I agree and that's why I have a larger generator to run my house. I usually take the Honda on camping trips and overnight fishing I run 2,000w stage lights and some other LED lights and it runs perfect.
Bought the generac for $365 on Amazon a week or so after Black Friday. Haven't lost power yet but I bought it specifically to handle the pellet stove in case we do. I ran it for 10 hours with no load just to break it in with a magnetic dipstick. Also added a run time counter.
After the initial test I went ahead and changed the oil and then ran the pellet stove for around 24 hours. Unsurprisingly, had no issues.
For the price of entry compared to the frequency I'm likely to use it (we've only really had one real outage in the five years we've lived here), I'd say it's a winner. Honda does have a stellar reputation, but it's hard to justify $1000+ for what we are using it for. For those who use this for camping or work, I'd say that makes the Honda a much more justifiable price.
I agree, save money if it’s just infrequent use.👍🏼
Everyone, including myself, loves Honda everything: mowers, motorcycles, you name it &... their generator(s) are no different.
The Genmax is the best budget buy imho. The sine wave produced is clean and consistent.
Would us Genmax owners LIKE to have the Honda, of course.
Sometimes you've gotta do watcha gotta do.
$455 generator is better than NO generator when the power goes out.
Darn right. Just depends what your needs are. If you are going to use it all the time and really beat them up then a Honda may be your better option but for recreational and here and there use then many other options are fine.
Also a generator sometimes is only as good as its owner. You have to remember to look at them once in a while and fire it up.
I live in far Rockaway Ny. YOU SAID AN ABDUNDACE😀😀😀😀😀💯💯💯💯
😁😁👍🏼
Only if runs!!
Thanks Captain Obvious 👍
I own the eu2200i and it is great. The fuel pump on it allows you to use the extended run fuel cap and connect to a 6 gallon portable boat fuel tank. I really wish honda would make this a dual fuel from the factory so you could run propane.
I agree a dual fuel option would be great and easy not to mention 2500 watt would be killer👍🏼
I have used the Honda for years and never had a problem. I finally put and hour gage on it to keep track of oil changes. It is a smooth running long life beast.
That heat gun test is impressive.
The Honda put out cleaner power and was considerably quieter doing it. Remember decibel measurements aren't linear, so 72 constant decibels can almost seem twice as loud as 62. This makes a huge difference if you're at a camp site.
I'd love to get a Honda, but the $1100 price tag is too much. If it were closer to $800 or so it would make the choice easier IMO. I know Honda price locks their generators, but I'd like to see a dealer invoice to know exactly what they're getting from Honda. Pricing competition wouldn't be a bad thing for us consumers.
I agree, way overpriced and their application leaves a lot to be desired.
I agree I have for a while if Honda dropped the price by about 15% they would probably acquire a lot more sales because everyone in there moon is coming out with small gens.
@JOHNNY'S WEEKENDS Honda is a premium device. No need to reduce the price. Poor people can buy other brand
Well the reliability of Honda has been suffering over the last couple years. And with Honda having China build more and more units, it won’t be long till they manufacture the products and use cheaper bearings and cheaper electric components.
Who knows.
@@chuckyl3978 Poor people aren't buying any generators lol.
Excellent review. I bought a Honda EU2200i on the morning Hurricane Helene hit western NC in Sept 2024. It was one of the last 2 units our nearby Lowes had in stock. We were without power for 4 days and used it at two different homes to keep the freezers powered for a few hours every day, run a TV and heat things up in a microwave. It ran great. My brother has a Generac GP2200i and we couldn't get it started. Now that I'm getting more educated on these things, it sounds like he either has an oil fill cutoff switch issue or perhaps one of the control boards went bad. He said even on the first day he used it, it would surge up and down continually when running in eco mode and low load. I suspect it was probably bad out of the box.
I own the Generac GP2200i ... it's handled several multi-day outages without a hitch .. we even had a movie night generator style.
Awesome still a good gen and not bad for the price at all.
Glad it’s working out for you and thanks for watching
👍🏼
Bought mine for $323 brand new in a box.
Steal…!!!! 👍🏼
I work in construction. We use the Honda eu2200. And I’m constantly amazed at what they will do. Unbeatable.
Nice!! Thanks for the feedback. How many hours you think they have ?
@@johnnysweekends we have a couple of these that are 10+ years old and use them a lot. Even guessing 1 tank of fuel/week, that equals thousands of hours.
Wow cool..!! Thanks again. 👊🏼
Own a WEN 4300, dual fuel, electric start, no expertise but it did a good job during a 7 day power outage.
I'll take my chances with the Honda. Got mine before Wilma (2005); still working today in 2022.
If cared for they are pretty bullet proof
I own on of these 2200 generacs for a while now and can say it’s a great machine for the cost haven’t had any problems with it but if you got extra money it’s the best to get the Honda but still generac is good
I bought two Hondas 2200. Great machine never let me down. There are cheaper ones but not the quality
My wife shows dogs. At today's show, nearly every exhibitor was using a portable generator.
She liked the ryobi electric start from home depot. When she compared the ryobi to the honda, she decided that the ryobi was twice as loud.
She was using my 20 year old Central Electric inverter generator from Harbor Fright. It is a little harder to start and much louder than modern generators.
After comparing several generators she decided on the Honda. I probably would have chosen the Predator from harbor fright. The Honda has a larger engine and is rated for a few more watts.
Tried both for myself. Got a Generac 2200, great value, not all that loud and a seemingly solid unit. Couldn't resist trying the Honda. Immediate difference in volume level, Honda is just so darn quiet and runs at a different, more mellow "sound/tune" that helps it be even more unnoticeable. Thought the app would be trivial, but its actually handy to see actual running amps and keep track of maintenance intervals/etc. Could absolutely do without the CO2 monitor thing, maybe a 12v & usb could by put there instead. Saved a hundred and nine bucks on the Honda at Home Depot with a discount.
You can unscrew the front plate and unplug the CO censor and the generator will still run as intended.
Ended up sellin the Honda and getting a Generac 3300i. Needed a lil bit more power and bonus was, its even a smidge quieter than the Honda is.
That particular unit is really quiet
@@johnnysweekends yes, for sure, love it
@@UABFWSS they are quieter i have the generac 3000 love it never has let me down. I’m in Mn and have ran it in -20
I’d love to see that same test with the same size Yamaha generator. I’ve had the IS2000 for 5 years and have over 2,000 hours on it with absolutely zero issues. It has run perfectly, as quiet as the Honda, and also has a fuel gauge and fuel shutoff. Maybe the new Honda’s have one or both of these now, but they didn’t when I bought mine. These days with ethanol fuel, that fuel shutoff on the Yamaha saves a whole lot of frustration and carb cleaning if the genny sits for a month or two.
I did test the Yamaha and Honda 2000 watt units. It’s in my video play list..👍🏼😀
@@johnnysweekendsThanks for the quick reply - this was the first of your videos that I’d seen. It just popped up on my feed and since I own and use many different generators, I was curious to see how the General compared to the Honda. I don’t use the is2000 for AC - I have an older RV and the AC unit will overload any genny less than 3.5 kw.
I’ll look up that Yammy test right now. Thanks again and great test process by the way!
Thank you. Check out my latest video. Even though it’s a off brand it’s a good perspective on what’s coming out. I like Yamaha and Honda but it’s time for them to step up there game a little.
@@johnnysweekends I watched that older Yamaha-Honda 2000 comparison - great review but it was strange that the Yamaha unit held on so long without kicking off. Mine doesn’t do that - if it’s overloaded, it shuts down pretty quickly. Up to the rated load, although the voltage was slightly lower than the Honda, it was still well within the acceptable range for for AC products. And although 1 db lower noise doesn’t appear to be a lot, remember that the db scale is logarithmic, not linear, so a db or two can make quite a difference in sound level. In any case, I have enjoyed watching your reviews, and you have a new subscriber.
As a side note, and while I could scroll through your full video list to answer this for myself, have you tested any of the Firman inverter generators? A few months ago I bought their 3650 remote start unit (model W03383). I had to return the first one due to engine surging issues, but I have been very impressed with the one that replaced it. I can’t speak to the longevity as I only have about 100 hours on it, but my wife and I sure like the remote start feature, and it’s relatively quiet for the size of the unit!
Thank you for subscribing 👍🏼😀
I too was surprised at the Yamaha As I love there products and really hoped for a little more. Overall it does what it is designed to do. But when you have a unit with a 98cc engine that little bit helps against 80cc one.
But those little Yamaha’s are pretty bullet proof. People report back with the amount of hours and it’s in the high hundreds to a Couple thousand.
And no I haven’t got into the Firman yet. Will see.
I love Honda's, but recently service centers are having trouble getting parts
Interesting didn’t know this…. Thanks for the update…👍🏼
My brother had a Generac house back up (propane) system and it was a huge money pit (always failing). My father bought a Honda (5500w) and had a panel installed in the house and has never had an issue.
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten. You get what you pay for.
Good luck finding a Honda to pay more for
@@juliogonzo2718 no luck needed. Just went to home depot and bought it.

Nice comparison review! The sound difference is huge. That's why you see Honda generators at TV towers at golf tournaments.
Yea especially in the low rpm ranges it where it really shines. Nothing can compete in that range. Some are close and some people may not even notice much but overall it’s a tough gen to beat for overall noise level.
Only wish the 2200 was a 2500 though. It could have easily been with its current set up.
Yes I see the eu1000 at shows extremely low noise. I’m thinking about the new eu3200 to use with my companion to be used with my home transfer switch I’m only going to get 120V not 220V. But it will run my oil heating system refrigerator lights & etc. my 5000 unit in the shed is getting heavy hell will the 220V. Plus I can store my Honda’s in the basement. Them mice 🐁 can do damage to anything in the shed I have them smell packs from tractor supply to keep mice out so far they work. Thank You
I've had 2 Honda EU generators. Simply they are the best. Very quiet.
I own (2) EU2000 Honda’s, one for 11 years and the other for 9 years. There isn’t any telling how many hours I have on them! I use synthetic oil and change it every (3) days regardless of hours used.
The Honda product is reliable, durable and one of the last things in this world that you actually get what you pay for....quality, service and longevity.
I have a feeling that "buy once, cry once" is the real name if the game here.
Why I bought two 2000i: Reliability and value. One is over twenty years old and the other five. Neither has been in the shop. The elder has been through six hurricanes, (Typically 3-5 days without power.), and the other three. Also numerous lightening-related power outages of 4-8 hours. The reliability issue is based upon the need for continuous refrigeration. We have two refrigerators full of frozen goods and medication. The medication must be refrigerated. Combined value- thousands. I paid $1000. for the oldest twenty years ago. I can sell it on MarketPlace for $700-800. So my "over priced" 2000i cost me $300 plus five spark plugs and four quarts of oil.
I had both of these in their earlier models. the EU2000i and the Generac 2000. The Generac was no where near as quiet and smooth as the Honda. The generac struggled and failed to start my small air compressor, yet the honda would start it every time. The generac was just junk in my opinion. My Hondas would run for literally hundreds of hours, day after day for weeks on end with extended run fuel tanks. The hondas never let me down.
Yea I don’t like this model or recommend after further testing.
For the price of the Honda 2200 you can buy the bigger generac iq3500 it’s awesome I’ve had one for 3 years and it’s never missed a beat has around 1600 hours on it handles the AC and microwave no problem but yea I like the red box to
With your name I figured you would be Blue through and through….😉😁👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends yea you would think so but I’ve had a fue issues in the past with a ef2000 it was always struggling to run what I wanted to and finally the inverter unit decided not to come to back to life running tire warmers and a air compressor so was back in the market for something just a little bigger and yea don’t know why I did but I’ve had good luck with the generac I think I was won over by the features and the price of the Generac and that I had my pit back up and running in 45 minutes cus Home Depot was right down the road at the time with it in stock … i don’t regret it at all amazingly
Wow nice 👍🏼
Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 😀
I have the iq3500 too and it exceeds my expectations. I rotate a Westinghouse igen 2500 and the EU2200 at the cabin. The iQ3500 and a WPro 8500 for home backup.
The spec sheet tells you what your going to get.
i have a yamaha 4800! bought in 2001. i was a caterer in the oilfield! i ran it prob 8 hrs+ a day for 6 yrs! then after that whatever! prob over 100000 hrs! at least, still pulls 1st or second time! also have 1000 watt! last forever . i cant believe it! great product
The old Yamaha and Honda products from then ran for ever. Even Hondas new stuff is not as good as the older products. I guess they found they were lasting to long lol.
@johnnysweekends planned obsolescence..sell more.
I had a Generac and will never buy one again.
Agree
After Ian, ran the 2200i basically 24/7 for 8 days. Changed the oil 3 days in, Ran my deep freezer, fridge, tv, fan & a lamp. Stayed in eco mode until my wife fired up the coffeemaker. Burned 2-3 gallons per day
Wow that’s awesome! And fuel burn wasn’t bad at all.
Yea just depends on how conservative you are with you power and fuel consumption. If you wanna live it up and have everything on well it’s just money lol.
Thanks for the feedback 😀👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends I’m a Contractor, have a few other generators at my shop but only one was running at the time (the 2200). I can’t say enough about these little Hondas, I know they are a little pricey but it paid for itself plus some by saving me from ditching the food in my freezer. I’m sold on Honda, the little generator that could.
I love the 2200,,, just purrrrrsssss lol
I bought a 3.5kva Honda gx240 generator in 1996 for construction work. Only this year 2022 stopped producing power. Sent it in for repairs. Got it repaired. Got all the rust removed and repainted. Repair cost 360 rands equivalent to +-18 dollars. Starts first time everytime.
Honda motor made in Japan.
I suppose that makes all the difference not the Chinese ones we get nowadays.
🇿🇦
True Honda Japan makes bullet proof stuff, unfortunately more and more is being made in China. They have now transferred as well and I think some product is now showing the the quality has dropped some.
I would love to see a print out of the powers sine wave. I bet the Honda is way smoother than the generac. Another test would be measuring the temperature of a table saws motor after 4 minutes of cutting.
I bet sine wave would be close as a lot of small units are getting really good. But yea with lower voltage on the generac it may increase motor temps on some units. I doubt a table saw or circular saw will car much as they can use dirty power all day on a construction job.
Ac units, fridges and more could need up working harder though. Premature wear.
I’ll have to get another oscilloscope. I had one years ago but rarely on all this new stuff I hardly see anything that draws much attention. I dont think they could sell it.

The old saying you get what you pay for applies. I have had a conversation beside a Honda running a cottage and they start when needed. Take your chances on others, that are a pain to start and loud.
I would buy the Honda over the generac. I would buy many things over the generac Lol
Does the Honda App require an account to be created? Does the Honda App require internet access to operate (like EcoFlow)?
I Honestly don’t remember its been so long since i signed up. I think it does as it will ask for the serial number of the unit possibly. But it will work only on Bluetooth. It actually does not have Wi-Fi. Just Bluetooth only. But I hear what your saying. Why do I have to create a account for everything, I just wanna Bluetooth connect and be done.
Got the gp2200 and I decided to go a little bigger with a gp3300I and i can tell you this generac is 5db quieter and starts on the first pull no matter how cold it is, I would like to see how the gp3300I compares to the honda on noise?
I haven’t been able to grab one of those yet. But yea would love to compare one at some point.
Honda for long term part availability and support. I can go down to the local Honda small equipment dealer for anything I need. How long will Generac support their stuff.
Also converted mine to tri-fuel. Gas, propane or natural gas for emergencies with a direct connection to the side of the house.
Using a generator for off grid living really puts them to the test, up here in Alaska.
I know it’s opposite to what everyone says, I have had more problems with a Honda 2200 than the generac 2200.
I use one of these inverter generators for my entire power generation (live off grid) and run them 10-12 hours a day minimum. I put at least 6000 hrs on the generac 2200 and had no problems other than recoil cord needing replaced and I was hard on it. Oil changes maybe every 400 -500 hrs. It did burn oil heavily at the end.
It did eventually die but I was hard on it.
The brand new Honda never started on the first pull, it needed a new Carb and throttle within the first year and a brand new inverter unit as well.
It was awful to start, and was out of service for almost a month under warranty repair. It hated the cold as well, (-20 through -40f) but the generac didn’t mind.
Currently running a cheap champion model that cost $350 and it’s on its last legs after about 8 months but I don’t know if I can complain.
I want to give the Honda another shot, I’m sure I just had a lemon. But it’s a big chunk of change.
It’s true the upfront cost is a lot. But people seem to abuse them and they last. But you have a great way to test long term as your conditions really put the generators to the test. And it’s true they can all have problems.
Only thing I would recommend is more frequent oil changes because the oil reservoir is really small, only a half quart as you know. Recommend is 50hrs for the small gens because they don’t hold a lot of oil. But I bet you could get away with more but it also depends how you use it. If your running at 80 percent load or there about a I would change more often. If maybe only a 1/3 rd load then you could stretch it. I don’t think heat is a real problem up there. Lol 😂
Thanks for the comment and letting us know.
And thanks for watching 👍🏼😀
Synthetic oil would help with engine wear if your not already using it. I agree with you, go with the cheaper generator because they're still no way a little Honda is going to last for years and years in your particular case. I'm not saying Honda isn't a good quality generator but you really need commercial grade equipment when you run it like that.
Have you ever tried the Yamaha generators? I have had a Yamaha IS2000 for 5 years and have probably put over 2,000 hours on it and have had ZERO problems. It’s as quiet as a Honda (or better), is incredibly fuel efficient, and typically starts first or second pull any time of year (and it gets used in Canadian winters). I did a ton of research comparing the Honda and Yamaha before I bought it. Both were well rated but the Yamaha had both a fuel gauge and a fuel shutoff, neither of which the Honda had. Both are very helpful, especially if you’re genny gets put away for a month or two. I just shut off the gas and run it dry. I’ll buy another Yamaha if and when this one every dies.
You get what you pay for. Honda is a Honda motor, built by Honda. Runs at lower RPM to reach rated power, so is quieter. Has a top shelf inverter that is coveted by even the solar community that wishes they could source it separately. Hondas are known to accrue thousands of hours and still run strong. VS Generac, with a cheaper, smaller motor, louder, has to run faster to reach rated output. Not to mention aftermarket accessories and mods such as propane conversion kits and external fuel tanks. Honda's popularity brings those aftermarket possibilities. Don't get me wrong, I also own a Generac (GP3300) and it has served me well, but it isn't in the same league as a Honda.
The thing to remember is dB is logarithmic so 10dB is SIGNIFICANT. I have a Yamaha and I like it; it's about as quiet as the Honda. I use to have a Subaru generator; and it was LOUD...
First of all very good comparison. I didn't do a lot of homework before buying my Honda Companion. I live close to Southern Honda Powersports and I've always liked Honda engines. I got it to use on the farm. I've never seen a hearse being followed by a Wells Fargo truck so I assume you can't take it with ya. I can't fault the Generac either if it holds up like a Honda.
I’m actually not impressed with it after having it a couple more months. Louder then most and other have more power now for less.
Are you showing the Honda runs the air conditioner with no issues?
Yes, correct. It’s a little power house!
That was on my older 2018 cougar.
But not my newest unit. Haven’t tried yet but I should.
Hey! Could you do a comparison between the Honda 2200 and the Generac 2500? On ther premises that Honda has the bigger cc engine, I think this would be a more fair comparison even though the watts are higher. And the engine on the 2500 generac is about 10cc's bigger than its 2200 brother, but still smaller than the Honda. And the 2500 is still half the price of the Honda.
What do you think?
I just bought the 2500.
And you can slip in the whole fuel shut off thing in the same video. Win, win.
I do have other videos I’m working on but I’ll see if I can find one. But may be a bit.
@@johnnysweekends no problem. I understand. Just a suggestion.
Would a generator/ inverter this size run a shop vac?
Yes, most shop vacs all run on a 15 amp circuit. You’ll want eco mode off when using a shop vac as the draw will go up and down a lot when using it.
If I was going to use a generator once, I would buy the Generac. If I was going to use a generator more than once, I would buy the Honda.
You were able to start your 15k ac with the Honda? I have the Honda 3000, never thought you could do that with the 2200.
Yup! It also depends on the trailer and how old. The newer ones are not as power hungry and are more efficient. But when firing up AC units you should have the eco off. 👍🏼
Bought the generac to replace a generac I had from the '60s
Wow.
That one was probably made in the USA unlike everything today.
@@johnnysweekends 1000 watts all steel still runs too
Wow that’s awesome..👍🏼
Have mine (Generac 2200is)to run my home gas boiler with the Ez generator switch for winter outages
Those switches are nice..👍🏼
Am I correct in thinking that both are about to be banned in California?
2028…. But can still run what ya have. Or go across the border and buy what ever.
It’s stupid
Eventually California will ban farting.
That's okay, most of us in the country have already banned California.
😂
If you start your AC unit in eco mode, you have a high chance of frying wiring in the AC unit. I made that mistake with my boat’s AC unit. Fried the transformer and fuse holder.
Yes, it’s not good for the generator either. But I figured 90% are going to use the generator this way. People buy them set it on the ground fire it up and leave it on eco and go do whatever in the RV or what ever items they power and don’t think much about the generator.
The technological people are becoming rare…lol
@@johnnysweekends , I wanted to say that your video was well made. Nice work.
Thank you very much and thanks for watching 😀👍🏼
Great comparison video. I’m glad I purchased the Honda (2018) EU2200i. No Bluetooth but hey. Don’t really need it. Cheers!
They are great gens but yea the Bluetooth is cool but when are you really gonna use it much. Probably in the beginning the first few times to check it out but after that… not really.
Could this Honda still run in very hot weather? Or will it shutoff? Here in Texas it can get over 105F heat index (the 'feels like" temp) even if the actual temp is 100F or less.
It has a rated temp of 104f but it helps a lot if you keep it in the shade. That’s crucial. It will also depends on the load. Because when it’s hot out heat will rob power. So it may have been able to run a 13.5k ac unit with a little room to spare, but at those temps now it’s about max running the same unit.
Haha that moment the honda hit its rev limiter staring the a/c was gold for me :)
GREAT VID. when I go to Amazon the Honda is mowing showing $2,500. Did something cause this spike?
Yea online orders for some reason are crazy verses local places are still around the $1199 ish area. But I assume stock is low since they are stuck on boats…😂😂😂
Seems like that with all product hence the Honda just isn’t even worth now when you can buy 3 almost 4 other gens.
I like them but honestly I don’t like moving it or heck even storing it now lol.
Honda Hands Down,Regardless Of Price
Are either one of those generators meant for camping only or they can do the job at a home powering up a few items , like a refrigerator and a light / heater .....? thanks.
That helped SO much. Thanks!!!
You’re welcome 👍🏼😀
At 2:36 I thought I was going to see a Bus run over the Generator.......lol
Someday I would love to blow one up with some Tannerite 😂👍🏼
The Honda engine even on low eco is running far better, clearly a winner.
as a ABC (anywhere but china) i noticed the honda was made in Thailand, the generac did not have country of origin on the labels that i could see. i’m assuming Generac’s are made in China, is that true?
Depends on model some are chine and some Vietnam and other locations. This model pretty sure was China. The 3300i is Vietnam 👍🏼
I believe the Honda engine is manufactured in Japan and generator assembled in Taiwan
What about the fuel consumption for the same load is the Honda better?
According to specs the Honda is less fuel efficient due to 121cc engine and smaller fuel cell at .95
The generac like many others use the Yamaha clone engine at 80cc. Which even though in upper loads it may spin a little faster overall it will be more fuel efficient or the same at full load but more fuel efficient at .25 load. And again a little larger fuel cell.
I believe the 2200i generac is on a sale

@@johnnysweekends wow thanks for the info. Very much appreciated!
No problem 😀👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends I’m still undecided looking for around 3KW power I’ve seen Honda coming up with smaller package with injection. Option to put that in parallel, I want use it mostly I case of power outage and going to my camp in the wood couple time per year like 5-6 times per year. What would you recommend to me, noise and reliability is what I’m looking for? Maybe 2 smaller units I’m really undecided, what I like about Honda is I can get any parts if needed at 5 minutes from my house. Thanks again and very good videos!
I would buy two 2200is before a single 3000i.
The new model coming out looks awesome and has the power many are looking for in a compact size. It will be interesting to see what they price it at. Which I can only imagine. I bet over $2000usd.
I assume mid summer when it will hit the states. But who knows in these times.
Anybody using theirs for more than twice a week or twice a month should probably get the most expensive one but if all you're doing is going camping 3-4 times a year get the cheap version... I've been on the fence about getting one for about a couple of years now for the main reason of going off grid camping ... and that thing that keeps me from buying one is the noise... I like the silence and peacefulness of the outdoors 😏
Every small engine should have a fuel shut off. Running the carb dry will greatly reduce problems with occasional use. You can get away with this a couple of times, but the varnish will build up, and you will have to eventually tear the carb apart and clean it, a big pain in a small generator.
I have owned a Honda EU2200 for 15 years. Powers our hunting camp each year running 24/7 for days at a time. Other than change oil, filter and plug has never required any other work. May have to change the pull cord as it is starting to Frey. They are expensive but worth every penny!
The Honda 2200 I a nice unit. Wish they had a dual fuel ready or even that unit as a 2500 would have really been nice.
Honda Didn’t sell the 2200 until 2018
I assumed he meant the 2000 unit.
I have had a Honda generator for about 6 years and it is still running but I just got a
Genarac for about two months and it is already messing up
Yea I don’t recommend it.
What does inverter indicate/mean? Does that mean I can run this say inside a garage or shed to keep noise down, ....does it even emit carbon monoxide/smoke at all? Thanks
Noooo! You do. It run any unit in a garage that is connected to the home. A shed far away that’s up to you but every gen should be at least 15ft minimum. 20ft is what is stated or more.
Any gas engine releases carbon monoxide and can kill in minutes if inside
@@johnnysweekends Thank you for the reply, really. I just asked because I kept seeing videos with folks running this in their garage? I've asked this question a couple of times, and I suppose the answer was so obvious no one would ever reply, so I do thank you.

With both or just the Honda?
Johnnys Weekends honda. Concerned about the other one's quality. Where is the other one made?
China like 95% of every other inverter generator except Honda and Yamaha which even then it’s starting as well.
Although most the other little gens are made there they have proven motors. Almost all have a 80cc Yamaha clone engine made by various companies. Biggest changes are the features and amount of power by the inverter board on it.
What can I run on a generator
A lot of items it just depends on what you are trying to run. What do you want to run on a generator?
I am on a land search and I have not planned out every single thing and I just wondered how long I can run this. Daily, nightly, or on some days? I was looking a solar panels and have no idea about those either. Vacant raw land and no utilities until I do.
@@johnnysweekends Portable AC unit, and possible small grill to eat, a few charges for phone. I look at the state auctions and I see many of them from fire department.
There is alot of info obviously you have to gather but yes solar and batteries and a generator are pretty much your main power items. Wind could be another extra later on for the off grid set up.
But I have reports and many comments on here from off grid subscribers that run there generators for hours at a time and some almost non stop for days except for oil changes.
Care is what will make them last long and not running them at max. Some will buy two to double the power or a emergency one or even rotate them as to not burn one out to quick.
The Honda will easily run all those items and the ac unit will just determine how big. If you can go with the newer style mini split. Cost is a pinch higher but power draw is way less and you get heat and ac. It also depends though where this off grid is.
My neighbor got a generator and tested and stored it without take out the gas. When the freeze hit, it won't start.
Did he run the carburetor dry..?
Did he change the plug? Or when stored as oil to cylinder? Check for spark?
It won’t start it’s not enough for me. Got to be a reason…👍🏼
For long terme go for Honda! You will save money!
I have a "Wen" and it's pretty good. Pretty basic, starts up right away, quiet...
your "test facility" looks better than my house
Lol I try, thanks 😁👍🏼
Can you do the firman 2100 1700 in this test the w01784 really curious if it will start the ac
I can look into that but not a fan of the firman design though.
@@johnnysweekends why’s that just curious because firman makes champion is it the air filter issue
Actually if anything champion makes firman but in reality a lot of them are all the same and the inverter board is normally the only thing that changes along with features.
The air intake is one but two is that I don’t know who you would call to get any help.
When it comes to customer service and warranty these seem to be the best…
Honda
Yamaha
Champion
Wen….
As far as the others it all depends on the warranty you buy.
@@johnnysweekends I get you but one good thing is cornwell tool is a dealer now so they should be able to get parts
@@johnnysweekends ducar makes almost all the clones.
I’ve got the Generac iq2000 which is an older model. The Honda can be worked on and parts replaced. Generac just mails a new unit and has you throw the old one away.
Interesting… I’ll take the new unit lol. Probably be a updated model because the old one is not being made anymore lol.
@@johnnysweekends I should have mentioned that only happens during the warranty.
Well yes but it is 2 years I believe so not bad.
Honda has a store I can take the generator to if it has an issue. They have all the parts and service techs. Never seen a Generac store
Only problem is by the time you pay for a dealer to work on it and parts you could buy a whole other generator again.

I have seen awesome deals in used Hondas… barely used! Nothing wrong with that..👍🏼
If I were to spend a grand on a small generator, I would buy two of the Generac, it is a quality product.
I’m actually not found of these small generac units actually after having them for a couple more months. Louder then others and not as much power. Better units now available and the generac name is just a sticker. They don’t make it.
what about the timing belt in the honda? do they need to be changed ?
I never hear of anyone changing them. They only do when they break if they break..🤷♂️
Honda's GX engines are OHV (pushrod)engines and don't have a timing belt.Their GCV range are OHC engines and use timing belt and are pita as you can only dismantle the engine from the crankshaft end.
Yea I learned this a little while back and had this exact thing crossed. The the GC engine is a belt. Which I’m glad because the push rod engine have a hard time dying. You could burn a valve or burn the piston up but much easier to work on if needed.
Thanks for the info👍🏼😀
Ive got two 2000 hondas that are over ten years old with over a thousand hours each, dont see too many generacs around at the art shows though so I cant comment on those.
I preffered to get two cheap one instead of an expensive Honda
I hear yea. A lot agree..👍🏼

Don't let cost sell you on clone quiet generators. Honda is what you want. Our company has has one since 2005 and has zero issues and starts on the first pull. Honda for the win
How many hrs on it?
@@tomzhang8675 We have 15 years worth of use on a 2000. cant even calculate the hours but it ran hunting camp for years. now we use a 2200 and have the 2000 as backup.
Don’t let yourself get but hurt by overpaying for a generator. I have over 9999 hours on a clone. Been running it 10-14 hours a day for 4 years. That’s 5 days a week. No problems at all other then a spark plug change and oil changes once a week.

Thank you, and thanks for watching 👍🏼😀
As a general rule I try not to exceed 80% of the max power rating for the circuit breaker , generator, transformer rating for extended periods of time. 90% is okay for brief periods only and 100% is like never or Mabey in some sort of an extreme emergency. Can’t go wrong and would prefer the Honda but the price point of generac is enticing..
It’s very true, if you run 80% or more almost every time then you should upsize to a bigger gen.
Thanks for the comment and thanks again for watching 👍🏼😀
Another test you need to do is an RFI comparison since Ham Radio Operators often use generators and constantly complain about RFI issues with the generator running.
Well I don’t have a Ham radio but a bass or guitar amp would work…👌
@@johnnysweekends I'm sure you know a local Ham operator, but this would be a very interesting test to perform by measuring the RFI put out by various generators.
