@ No affection at all, You know I have 6 other videos promoting different Honda and Yamaha models? See my others th-cam.com/play/PLmKRmTO3-OxoZweDRaqU47Alos0NmYmWc.html
I've had a Honda since 1902. It starts first pull every time. It powers my house, my wife, my kids, my dog, my truck and the nuclear plant down the road. Amazing unit.
Best generator ever built. Take it from a hurricane expert and 30 year Army vet. I used one during hurricane Maria in St. Croix, USVI and had no issues.
I just wanna say that I’m running my modem with that generator to watch this video. It’s been working great for now, around 100 hrs of use in the last 1.5 years.
I worked at a shop that sold Honda generators. Hondas are extremely well made, but you can't deny their prices. I also own some Generac products and I am satisfied with them. Pay your money and make your choice.
Many people being so hard on this guy. I believe the Honda is a better unit which is why I purchased one. However, having owned it for 4 years, I’ve never used it accept to start it occasionally as recommended. The generator here was reviewed because not everyone can afford the Honda. Will it last as long, maybe not, but how often do these things get used? In my case, I may have been fine with a less expensive option, but I wasn’t aware. No need for the negative comments here. Are you going to knock reviews on a Toyota and insist people buy a Lexus? -----Thanks for this review, it contains useful information. Just don’t see why people feel the need to be so negative.
Perfectly said, I think everyone missed the fact that I started the video saying Hondas are great but like your Lexus example not everyone can afford one and this is a great option for much less money. Thanks for the support.
I sell outdoor power equipment for a living. Generators are a very small part of our business. But I like the Honda's because I never see them come back for any warranty work.
Have one these the first month of having the recoil broke. I fixed it and sure enough it broke again after about the fifth time ended up getting a honda recoil and had to do some mods to get it to fit. Works great now bit if you cant fix it yourself don't get one
When you add oil because it's low, you're not going to be putting a full container. Also when you do an oil change there's always some left so a full container will over fill the generator.
We recently had a nine hour outage, .. my little "quiet" GP2200i performed like a dream. Fridge w freezer, room fan, floor lamps, electronics including TV and a tiny 600 watt microwave and 900 watt induction hotplate. We actually had a movie night using generator .. cozy, not bad!
Great video very informative. For those mentioning that they’ve never had any problems with their Hondas, this video isn’t knocking Honda. He’s simply giving a review of the generac for people who want something more affordable.
This generator is sold under several importer band names including Westinghouse, Pulsar, and Workforce. I have had mine for two years and have been very pleased.
Yeah I have the Westinghouse variation. I think they are all exactly the same other than a few stupid features like outlet covers or USB plugs. Mine will power my gas furnace, fridge and all my lights. Year old, I take great care of it and run it at least once a month because I know it isn't a Honda.
You guys have been lucky, for the moment. Change your oil often, & cross your fingers. I recommend getting a new generator & keep it handy. I would never feel comfortable running a Generac.
Nice option- you can do a lot with 2kW of power. I've owned a large generator for years as a standby for my entire house. This product will work for a lot of people who only want to run a few circuits for a fraction of the money required for the full systems. Good vid and thanks!
Thank you so much. For two days I have been searching for a good quality generator. I live in central Texas and just went through the winter storm that took out our power for 96 hours. At the coldest the inside of our home dropped to 40 degrees. Outside was 7. Will be buy two of these.
I've got to add my two cents here. I lease a year round vacation lot in a nature reserve in northern Canada with 270 other people. Almost everyone here uses honda generators because they've proven themselves over and over again even against Yamaha and other top brands. They get heavy usage here. They are rock solid performers over the long haul. When you're in a remote part of the bush, reliability is what counts. Just sayin'
This is very true . But with the extra money I have saved , I can get three or four more hookers for the summer . See you over at my place ! Your good friend Vinny in good old Fla.
I get your point and it valid but for the average home owner spending three times as much is nothing more than a waste of money. I have a lot of outdoor equipment and none of them are Honda and I have had nothing but good results. I see a lot of bragging about Honda snow blowers and I am sure they are very good but paying over 3,000 is crazy town. I have a very nice Arians that cost me less than half of a Honda and it runs great, 20 years old. The place you lease sounds like a little bit of heaven. Take care
Some of the comments on here are hilarious. "I've had my Honda running it 29 hours a day, twelve days a week and it has never failed me". (Obvious sarcasm) Cool story. Most probably your average guy looking at a generator review on TH-cam isn't buying this for daily use. They are probably wanting something economical, light, easy to use, and relatively durable for camping, maybe backup for a power outage at home, etc. I'm sure that Honda is amazing. It's also $1200+. If you're going to use the hell out of something, anything, it stands to reason that your price sensitivity is different than the guy using it a couple times a year. FWIW this generator gets really solid reviews and you can find people who have put hundreds if not thousands of hours into it. I'm betting that's more than what your average buyer of this price point generator will demand in its lifetime.
We have a Honda eg1400x from the 80’s and it has over 700 hours on it and recently a reletive lost power and it powered their fridge and basement freezer for 5 days straight with no issues. Starts first pull, 12 hours on a tank of gas and is 3 decibels quieter than this one.
I JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL... you are honest. and you review things without holding punches. This is important as i understand money making and marketing and a lot of "reviewers" are shills and peddling "nothing but positive reviews" those dont help anyone.... YOU are helping me making informed choices on products. keep this up and everything else and never sell out...your honesty will be the path to fortune! hell yeah.
Honda is proud of their generators. Most people don’t put but a few hundred hours max on them. I put a 60a panel on its own transfer switch with the furnace, fridge, freezer and lights. Power goes out and in a few minutes I have our power is back.
Just received by Generac GP1200i yesterday and it ran like a champ. Change the oil at one hour using various loads; changed the oil at hour two same loads. Now were ready for that unexpected storm or recreation use. I feel that as long as one performs the required maintenance and keeps the loads reasonable (for me 80% or lower of run load range) it will last. No ethanol fuel and monthly cycles are key in my opinion.
First of all, good job on the video man. Like most comments, I read I to am a Hona man. When it comes to emergency power Honda is a name I trust. You can run their gens for mega hours and they just keep running like the day you bought it. Generac is a good name in household gens I guess only time will tell how they last as portable units.
Honda has a built in fuel pump which allows you to use a companion tank. Depending on my location I bring a 2, 3 or 5 gallon can. This prevents having to fill the generator every 8 hours. We were in a 24 hour thunderstorm and I didn't have to refill my Honda 2000. I have had this unit since they first came out. Change the oil and spark plug, clean the air filter every season. We use it 2-3 times per month. It worked perfect during our California blackouts. Didn't have to refill for 3 days. It ran 24 hours a day. Luv my Honda!
A guy on another channel had one of these for a year. He was having trouble starting it low on oil. The oil hadn't been changed for over 300 hrs and was placed on a tilted platform towards the oil fill port. He never did put it on a level surface to fill it properly but at least changed the oil in this poor thing. If you do tilt it, tilt it the other way if you are so busy you can't be bothered to change the oil. All this speaks well for this unit.
I work on power equipment for a living. I can say without a doubt most Generac products are junk. I see a fair number of Honda generators that are 20+ years old that still work as they did when they were new. Honda’s are the best for a reason. This unit will get you by in a pinch here and there but will let you down in the long run.
Generac is a reasonable piece of equipment, hovever you get what you pay for. I may use a portable like this 3-4 times a year to maintain cold storage through power outages, and for that purpose, a less expensive genset works well. Of course, maintenance on a small air cooled engine makes all the difference, too. If I were still using generators to supply job sites or as a primary power source for a cabin, I would choose based on a different set of criteria and would be likely to invest more in a higher quality, more reliable system.
Generac is just the name that happens to appear on the side of this generator but the same unit is sold under many brand names. I own the Wen version of this generator, and it is a solid unit that has given me yeas of reliable service with no issues. Honda stuff is good, but definitely way over-priced. I'd rather have 2 of these than one Honda, any day.
You my friend are full of bs Generac is in my back yard and as for myself and all the surrounding farmers ALL use them and love them Honda’s is foreign garbage that’s over priced. Honda’s are cheap junk now they are not like they were ten years ago +. Please do some research
Excellent and well done video, straight to the point and very informative. In seven minutes I learned everything I need to know to operate and ultimately get me one of these babies. Thank you !
I have a Chinese Suitcase generator called Senci which uses a Yamaha engine and was well over half the price of the Honda. It now has over 4500 hours on the meter which I bought separately for the oil changes. The only replacement to date was a new pull cord it’s very well built and would defiantly recommend. Honda although reliable is now a very expensive brand to buy in comparison.
I've had a portable Generac generator for 8 yrs now never had a problem with it. Most of the home generators here in coastal Ga. are Generac, been handy with all the storms we've had lately.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.. but I use my generator in emergency situations. I want to know it works 100% of the time, everytime. Honda has a proven track record. If this works for you, great.. but there is a reason why Honda is expensive. You buy it once, and that's it.
What no one seems to talk about are the components in these generators/inverters. Honda uses premium parts, the equipment outlasts all other equipment, therefore they cost so much more. Buy the best you can afford, hope it lasts.
Premium parts, so also own a Honda EU2200i. The fuel valves were all recalled due to starting fires, they recalled them all. They ran out of new parts and took a month to get repaired. This was a fuel valve. Not good.
Don't be stupid everything which costs more is not always premium. New companies offer their products at lower price because they don't have a lot of costomers at beginning and try to make their product famous. But old famous companies use their brand value to charge more from customers though their product may be inferior to the new commer's.
I have a small Honda generator that runs absolutely great! BUT and I mean it with a BIG BUT I needed a small part and was told it was on "permanent" backorder....I ending up sourcing a generic replacement but what good is anything if parts are hard to get or small parts cost half the cost of a new unit?
“Inexpensive ” or “economical” better describes the value of the GP2200i than “cheap”.... all in all really great video covering the features and benefits! Super helpful.
The Honda 7000 watt, fuel injection induction generator secured to the 5th wheel factory install in the middle of the bed on my Titan XD Turbo Cummins is perfect. Still have 200 watts of portable solar. Carrying 15 gallons of gasoline in gerry cans is worth it. My Lance 2375 will always have power. It was a personal priority regardless of price.
Bought a predator 3500 for 650 3.5 years ago and 5000 hrs later hasnt missed a beat. I did have to replace the battery. Do the maintenance your generator takes care of you.
my Honda is 40 years old and the only maintenance it needed are a few oil changes and some carburetor cleaner and it still starts first pull so you are getting the reliability for the price you pay. If you get the generac it is about $400 cheaper but I’ve hear reviews of them not lasting long or never working. Basically you will get the reliability that you pay for.
I worked in the telecommunications industry. We had many generators at remote sites around the county to power up microwave and telecommunications equipment. The generator maintenance guy advised not to buy Generac for one reason: They are made by cobbling together parts from other manufacturers, and as for the big-generator, industrial uses, like I was in, it's hard to get parts for them. I can't speak of reliability of any Generac, but the comments here are worth noting.
I have 2 Powermate 2001's, exactly like this one, I have over 2500 hours on them (I alternate the generators every 12 hours at my remote cabin, used to power my wife's O2 concentrator plus lights and a water pump) these will last IF you follow the service recommendations, i use 5W30 synthetic oil and change every 50 hours, new plugs every 100-150 hours. Good generators yes, same as the Honda 200i, no. But it works for us. After powering up on full power I use the eco mode and get 13 hours per tank (1.3 gallon). Good review and and thanks
I just bought a predator 3500 watt inverted generator. I live it and it was only $690. It’s extremely quiet and powers everything in my motorhome. Even the ac, microwave lights and a few things in the outlet at the same time
Sorry in advance for the long winded post but I have some things to say about this generator and generators in this price range. It is a complex topic. I own 3 generators all 240v so you might have to extrapolate my numbers for 110v but the concepts are sound. A single cylinder Diesel 7kva, and 2x V twin portable gas generators one of which is 3 phase. I live off grid so I know a thing or two about generators. I weld from home. On top of that I'm a qualified mechanic. Also, *I don't own a Honda generator* The thing with Honda generators is this: they have amazingly long lives. Also in favor of Honda is that they're incredibly durable. I have a creek at the back of my place. My neighbor pumps water into his concrete tanks for fire fighting purposes over summer before the creek stops flowing. Twice now, he's forgotten his Honda generator was down at the creek as he has solar and during the longer days doesn't need the generator to charge his batteries. After a few days of constant rain it has become completely submerged for days when the creek floods a bit. One time it washed downstream for some distance. Both times I've drained the fuel tank and crankcase, removed and cleaned the carb, blown it all out and replaced the filters. It has started right up and is probably running as I'm writing this to you. I don't know how many hours are on it but I would say between 7500 and 15,000hrs. It is about 9-10 years old and it runs many days for 9 months of the year. Not bad for an inverter generator! If this generator in your review could do 5000hrs (I assert highly unlikely) then it would equal the Honda considering the price if the Honda is 3 times more expensive, however, the trump card as I see for the Honda is it's still supported after all this time. Additionally, the Honda generator section is far higher quality than this will ever be and it is doubtful any part of this generator could ever be repaired economically. As I see it, the generator in your review has a really excellent feature and that is it can be coupled to the same generator. The Honda can also be coupled but 2x Honda generators is very expensive proposition and dare I say one might be better off with a 'portable' V twin type of 12-13kva (wheels and wheel barrow type handles) that consumes ~ 3 - 3.2liters per hour at full load. I think your review is quite good and I'm amazed this generator has the capacity to be coupled. Buying two and coupling them is versatile but if you make them perform Work in this mode, then the fuel consumption will be quite high for what they are. By comparison a 7kva Diesel generator with a load of ~ say 3kw will consume about 0.8liters per hour as compared to ~ 4 - 5liters per hour with a similar load on our coupled Generacs. So the point is, buying two of these may be a good idea for short term use during a blackout when you can couple them and still watch TV or continue gaming, or they might be a good idea if you want redundancy of having two and the versatility of having two generators instead of one. For home use a Diesel generator in the price range of 2x Generacs is a better proposition in my view (if you or your neighbors can stand the noise and you don't mind some frequency variation). One extra point: Laptops don't require ultra clean power. 'Dirty' power (+/- 5% frequency and voltage regulation) is fine since they go through a multi voltage power adaptor. The old Toshiba laptop I'm writing this on is powered by my single cylinder Diesel generator and when the 2000w heater cycles the generator rpm and therefore the frequency swings up and down like a yoyo and it runs fine - as does my desktop computer with a 1080ti and a 6 core cpu and powered with a Corsair HX1000 psu. One thing I have noticed is I can't overclock my CPU to 4.5ghz anymore and can only run standard clock speeds which is a bit of a bummer as it really helps make better use of the graphics card at high res. An inverter could be a better proposition here but it isn't cheap or easy finding a high output inverter Diesel genset. Being small makes inverters very handy. Being able to be coupled is a great feature in this price range. Unfortunately they never output double what they can in single mode, but this is acedemic because most cheap generators can't output anything like what their spec sheet says. I always subtract 35% from their BS claims. In essence 2x 3000w generators in parallel *might* output a genuine 3500 and possibly 4000w at sea level on a day of high barometric pressure and 0 degrees lol. A genuine 3000w is still quite useful esp at high altitude for example + esp at less than $1500. Hondas on the otherhand will in all likelihood output what they say they will which is part of why the price is so high. Finally (whew lol) I must say that I disagree that it is a replacement for a Honda - however - I wouldn't pay Honda prices either for my use.
I have a Generac 6500W model. Twice my garage flooded and submerged it about 2/3 of the way up. I too drained the oil, blew out the carburetor and cleaned it up and it started up like your Honda. I don't have nearly the hours on mine but my purpose is for power outages. I have one of those subpanels set up too and with my bigger model, I can run 5 circuits in my house. Anyway, that's my experience with Generac, got nothing bad to say about anything built by Honda.
ThePaulv12... You make a few good points in your thoughtful and reasonable reply. My guess is that this unit (Generac) or another one like it that was suggested in another comment (Westinghouse) is more for someone that needs a generator for light occasional use. Someone like me for example... I live in the suburbs and we don't lose power much or for long, but when we do a unit like this would be perfect for being able to charge phones, laptops/PC's, periodically cycling the refrigerator and for being able to run the pumps for circulating hot water for the heating system (city gas, water and sewer, so don't need power to have water and use the gas stove/hot water heater). I'm sure that the Honda gens are fantastic (we've owned Honda products and have had nearly 0% issues with any of them), I just can't justify the extra cost when something less expensive, though probably not as long lasting will easily do what I need it to. Also... Being in the "burbs" noise is a strong consideration, so a more powerful gas or diesel generator is out. I find your comments about your off grid neighbor using a generator so much, pretty interesting. More power to anyone living this life, but I couldn't imagine having to listen to the drone of a gas/diesel generator for hours on end! The idea of living off grid sounds great, but if that's what you have to do (or live in the dark all the time) to make it possible, I'd opt for a different option. Great review... Interesting and useful product. Will likely be buying one of these in the near future!
@@WHJeffB like living next to a railroad, you get used to it lol. The go for off grid is 48v. I'm thinking I'll go Edison nickel-iron. Inverter, panels and batteries about $25k but here's the thing, for that you get power cleaner than mains and my Diesel generator has 2 wire autostart so the inverter will auto start it. 10 short years ago a system as i describe would be $100k!
I've owned both and done the same job with both. The Honda starts at -10 degrees. The generac would not. The Honda will put out way more power than it's rated for although I don't recommend doing it. Most importantly, the generac was junk at 400 hours. The Honda has over 3000 on it and starts on the first pull.
Second Nature Lawn Care I was surprise that the Honda can run a fridge ,microwave, lights and a window ac unit while I was camping at my cousins cabin. We ran it 24/7 non stop for 3 weeks straight and all we did was just had to refill gas. I was amazed...
@@jeffgrey1566 generac is not a cheap branded generator. Honda is just way over prices. Generac is at nearly 95% of every home on demand generator you will see. Even if it's a seamens generator it's made by generac. This is just a budget generator for someone who dosent want to waste money on a honda. You can buy a 8000w generator cheaper then a shitty little honda like that
@@wyattsmith9791 Lol Generac generators really are junk. Yes it is true they are used in thousands of homes for emergency back up power and they start up once a week for a test. However If you need them for more than a few hours they self destruct. Many youtube videos of people buying Generac Generators and use them for off grid power to run a tool shop once a month or so in almost every time the crankshaft breaks after only a week or two of running off of propane and oil being checked regularly. The factory told them these cannot handle being run for extended periods of time. 3600 RPM generators don't seem to last especially Generac. (Except Honda has done a fine job) Diesel's running at 1800 RPM is the only way to go. The good reviews on Generac generators are from those that have not had to rely on them actually running for any significant period of time. (less than 10 minutes or perhaps two hours here and there)
@@jimthvac100 that's funny because I do electrical work and we have installed hundreds of them around here with only a few call back issues and we loose power all the time for days. None of the generators are made for running more then a day to 3 days at a time u less it's a specialty one like diesel etc. Most we install are generac propane and some diesel models. Once in a while we get issues with transfers and shit but not very often motor issues. Indont believe shit I see on TH-cam because the only people that post videos about products are the ones that had issues. No one ever post reviews then they didnt have any issues except for a few channels that a designated to reviews but they arent running out buying a 6 to $10k generator to review I garentee it. You get what you pay for. I have a 10kw generac for the last 8 years and we loose power for 4 to 6 days multiple times a year due to living way put of town. No issues with mine except the weekly startup needed adjusting when it didnt want to kick on but it was a simply fix.
Get back to us in 2 years. My honda was used and abused for 10 years, didnt even change the oil. Still running and I sold it for half of the original purchase price...
Mine I got in 2005. Never changed the oil and just keeps running. The carb is a pain but the gen is great in general. All the cheap CHinese knockoffs are a waste of money. I just found out the hard way. At least Harbor Freight refunded all my money.
This portable unit is amazing for the price . I'm a generac technician and work on all generators but hands down these are good units and there hsb units are incredibly reliable.
Adam Larson I also work on generators for a living. You don’t have issues with the portables breaking under warranty and since generac sources everything out for the cheapest bidder they can’t always get parts. We have replaced complete units under warranty for the dumbest things. IMO that’s not the way to do business. Spend the extra money and get a kohler or Cummins.
@@justinjohnson5653 That doesn't sound bad to me if they swap out a whole unit, might be not good for their business but as a customer I would be thrilled to get the thing swapped out.
Silver Cymbal I agree until the unit is just out of warranty and one of the rubber bushings breaks and generac can’t get them and they say nothing we can do. Have had that happen numerous times. We sell all makes and models but try to steer customers away from the generac portables
@@jeffeeeeeee I have 2 Honda EU2000's, the only unit I might consider would be the Harbor Freight ones that seem to be a direct knockoff to have for a disposable unit/s they even copied the parallel kit that looks like the Honda's and if you could get them on sale and use one of the 20-25% coupons they offer, then at that price the HF units would be quite the "deal". I would not want to trust my life to them, where I know I can trust my life to the Honda's.
antonwearsakilt I bought the harbor freight generator and after about 6 tanks of gas it started overreving and they wouldn't even look at it. They told me it was cheaper to replace it ( at my cost) so I still use my hondas
I agree with you. I’ve been very impressed with not only the strength of the Generac systems, but how quiet they are. I just purchased the GP3000i model. Runs my RV air conditioner, and that’s saying something.
Spectacular video, I would just like to add 1 thing..... With any new generator, after filling with oil, leave it in the off position and pull the cord 4-5 times. This will cycle the oil out of the bottom and "Coat" the motor with oil to avoid ba "dry" start at initial start up.
I have a 200$ 2200w non-inverter generator, using it for 6 years, only 35 hours of actual use on it, because it's the only time a had need to use it. I think it will work for many years more, coz I don't use it at maximum power, and do oil changes every 10 hours of use.
Customers have brought these Generac, Ryobi and Harbor Freight Predators into me many times. They are NOT worth the money. They literally rattle themselves to pieces, they're louder, and just cheaply made. Buy a second hand Honda eu2000i if money is an issue. I see the Hondas used for $400-600 all the time and they will never die.
to compare Harbor Freight generator to Generac just tells me you do not know what you are taking about. for the money the generac is all the average guy needs, it will last long time, and is not worth paying 3x the price for Honda. I agree with used ones though, find one that the weekend project guy is selling because he is cleaning out the garage and realized he never used it much other than around the house, campaing or motocross etc.
@@Yoursoul101 I repaired four of these Generacs this summer. They sound like crap. They were all literally rattling themselves to pieces. Missing bolts, missing rubber isolators on the bottom, loose carburetor linkages, rotted evap/fuel lines, and one rattled all of the electronic switches and plugs right out of the front. They are a Honda clone. They are using a cloned GX 100 Honda engine made in the third world country to undercut the price of the Honda. Corners are cut everywhere to make them cheaper. Don't believe me, waste your money and I'll just keep making money off people that buy these and pay me to fix them.
I gave one of my pulsar 2000 watt inverter model no longer needed to a friend of mine with over 500hrs on it, yes I added a hour meter. And I never had any issues with it, it always started with ease and ran quietly no it wasn't yamaha quiet but so minimal difference is not even worth taking about. I replaced it with the pulsar 2300 inverter generator forget the model but got it from home depot and I have 73 hrs on it, it's a little louder than the 2k unit I gave away but it handles my skill saw better.
Thanks for the review, my house was without power for 2 weeks due to a Tornado that heavily damaged our power grid. I had a Honda and it got us by but last month I purchased a Generac 22KW NG Standby. I really like their products and their support was and is awesome. I will be purchasing this one for my Camper and to take with me when out on the farm. The features are awesome
This is too hard to believe. I'm amazed at what this generator does. It got some practical stuff that got my attention. What a neat model. Time to update Thankyou. Hope I can buy this Model in NZ
I go to Canada and Alaska and Mexico, I like to off-road a lot. Trust me when I tell you buy a Honda spend the extra dollars but you will have a peace of mind when you go to the outdoors with family. The Honda’s can take a lot of stress I even take them scuba diving with me they are waterproof up too 100 feet.
Doesn't matter if it's a Honda or RIGGED UP Generator... As long you maintain it, YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS... My Gram-pa gave me a Coleman Generator he got in the 80's and it's till running today.
Great video. This model wouldn't work for me, though. I have a similar powered Honda generator for use on my sailboat. It has a three prong plug that fits my shore power cord. This makes it powerful enough to make it unnecessary to keep the boat in a slip, saving hundreds of dollars each month.😊
It would be helpful if you took voltage readings from all power ports at various RPM. Some generators don't have voltage regulation done well on the 12V or USB ports. They are sketchy for safe power for your gear.
Agree with this review, 15 years so far with my Generac, no issues, use it a lot in in yard work (chain saw, shop vac, whole house backup in power outages) and it is exactly what you want for the price, Honda philosophy is put a lot of money into it, however usually more than a guy needs, example is when Honda tried this strategy on lawn mowers, I fell for it and paid 4 times more than a Toro self propelled push mower, in late 1980's, and yes still have honda mower no engine issues, however, it has outrun its design now, it is a very heavy mower, too hard to push unless you do use self propelled feature, where wheels just tear up grass when mowing small places like in between beds and around trees etc. and, the drive gears are nylon, and have become brittle and worn and failed, very easy to change, except the mower has lasted so long, Honda no longer makes the gears, and they cannot be found on internet nationally, so I am stuck with a heavy push mower that may not wear out engine wise, but is a pain to use with out the drive, My only resort now I guess would be throw it out, but you know that you paid 4 times the price, or have some one scan and then redraw the worn parts of the gears, and get them 3D printed and hope the redesign and gear material lasts. Also, mower is so old they missed the mark on ergonomics on the push handle, it is uncomfortable to use, and some stainless steel parts on handle are rusting. the drive wheels are also worn, but can;t find them on line either as Honda stopped supporting parts for this mower years ago. It always starts first or second pull, but as I have grown older with the mower, I realize the pull to start is very high effort, and at an uncomfortable angle to pull with the push handle in the way. I would be cautious about buying something that might outlive the technology it was intended for.
hondas are easy to service, how is the generac for servicing? I bought a clarke generator & to change the fuel lines I had to take the who thing to bits
Traditional generators are fine for running more basic equipment that isn't sensitive to how "clean" the power is... think power tools, fans, appliances (although newer appliances are definitely more "electronic" and sensitive than older ones). Inverter generators create a cleaner electric output that more closely emulates what you get from utility power so they're safer to run electronics off of. Also, another huge benefit is traditional generators pretty much run at just one speed all the time regardless of load. Inverter generators can throttle the speed up or down based on demand which can help extend runtime.
I've got a China sportsman 80cc inverter generator 2200 that I burned up the inverter board after 6 months of hard use off-grid. Non inverter generators will last a very long time. Inverter generators using them here and there and just sometimes on the weekend you may be okay. But for off-grid people the Chinese inverter generators will not last. My non inverter generator I sold about a year ago I had for over 25 years still ran fine when I sold it. That non inverter generator was bulletproof and relatively quiet not as fuel efficient though as an inverter generator. But the big thing is it was bulletproof indestructible. I've got a 2200 watt Honda but I'm a little skeptical of using it like I did that other inverter generator. I don't want to burn it up. Luckily they replaced the sportsman China 80cc inverter generator that died.too bad they didn't have a switch to cut off the inverter on these inverter style generators. Don't get caught up in all the clean power terminology because my old non inverter generator from 1995 never burned up anything and I ran everything on it over the years.
Not sure why no one is pointing out the obvious, a inverter won’t run 240. So any central air, oven, dryer, etc will not be able to run on an inverter.
We have a Honda 2000i clone from Aldi's. Great little generator, esp for the $210 it cost new. Then at auction, i got a used Honda eu2000i for $300. All it needed was a carb rebuild. That was less than $40 for the parts and some of my time. It starts easy and runs like a Honda should! Love these little gennys. During recent summer 9hr power outage, we ran the Aldi generator to power a 12k btu window ac, our tv, sound bar and Starlink. Starlink was great because we could wifi call, since the telco fiber feeding the area cell towers was broken in the accident that also broke 4 power poles and took out the power.
Nice, Honda is mighty proud of their generators. And I want a small one that doesn't take up a lot of space, I'll definitely be looking into this one! Thanks for the video.
So many Honda fan boys. My 12+ year old (portable) KIPOR (now defunct co.) SINEMASTER 3000TI DIGITAL INVERTER GENERATOR still works fine. Just keep up the maintenance.
I bought this same generator from Costco. First time out using it camping, it failed. Glad Costco took it back. It was not as quiet as the Honda we had, but seemed like a good value. Just disappointed it stopped working on the 1st voyage out
@@skye1212 So obviously you are using a 110v window unit, like I said. The square footage of the house has no influence over what the generator will run. Split system air conditioners need 220v and more watts than this generator can provide to run the outside compressor/condenser coil.
You can hook two together for a total of 3400 watts, which is enough for the typical 120v air conditioning system. However, this small unit really isn't designed to power a home. A larger generator is best for that. This is a portable unit, designed for RV's, campers, or temporary power for a few household appliances (fridge, portable heater, etc).
@@dwightstewart7181 A single 1700 watt unit will run a 120v window air conditioner and pretty much nothing else. The point I was trying to refute was his statement at 0:48 that it will "actually" run your home including heat, air conditioner which to me would imply a whole house air conditioner, and other appliances. So we are in agreement as far as this unit not being suitable for anything other than running one thing at a time other than lights, such as your furnace blower motor assuming it is gas, a refrigerator but possibly not at the same time as the furnace or in the case of "your air conditioner" only that. If this unit is all you have you can make it work so you don't lose all the food in your freezer and have some lights until the power comes back on. I'm glad I'm not the only one saying this. It's better than no generator but for a home power outage, if your going to prepare for the loss of electricity, do it right and size based on more than one appliance at a time. And he did mention you could connect two together but that's not how it was presented in the opening. And at that point, why not just get a larger unit? I have a 5k (5,000 watts) generator and can pretty much run my whole house, still making sure your not running hair dryer, curling iron, microwave, instant hot, toaster oven at the same time. Ask me how I know, the wife and daughter were doing just that one morning the power went out getting ready for work. 5,000 watts would run my whole house air conditioner but not at full amperage so it was straining, and nothing else. To take the load off a bit I used a smaller 2500 watt unit to run the air handler. I'm looking now at replacing my 5k with a 10k so it will run the ac and everything else. As you said, it is designed as a portable unit for camping or a tailgate party etc.
It would be nice to be able to run an exhaust line outside while it is secure is closed garage so nobody would run off with it in the middle of the night.
Your absolutely right. I live in Detroit, Michigan and if you left this outside for 5 minutes, it would be stolen in broad daylight. I've lived here for 15 years and have driven Taxi Cab for 7. I'm not exaggerating any of what I just said.
One thing that I learned after hurricanes Maria & Irma is that once you go into full survival mode, these smaller generators are the best option. We were lucky and spent 41 days without power and after it came back the service was constantly on and off. My average gas bill was $90.00 a month, folks with bigger gens were paying in average $1200-$1500 a month in either LP, diesel or gas. Survived with a Yamaha EU200 and a Honda EU3000, they provided enough juice to move everything minus the 220 stuff. This machine looks like an awesome option.
Need a generator to take to the races with me, currently running an early 80s Honda and it’s SO heavy, a great generator, don’t get me wrong. But so heavy, And honestly more than I need, think I may snag this little unit up. Thanks for the review!
Been using a Duromax 2000w for a few years. Same as that Generac. Yamaha clone engines, made in china... Great machines. Live on 5 acres and just used it to power an electric pole saw at the bottom of the driveway. It powered our 25 cu ft fridge, large screen tv, dvr, computer and led lamp all at the same time using very little gas, without a lot of noise, for several days during one of the PGE California power outages. Paid $250 with free shipping.
Can you use a Generac with a parrell where two are used for twice the power? I need to have enough power for a slider RV to move the slide feature of the camper back and fourth? Tks.
Lol that honda is expensive in us cus it's imported. Here i can buy the eu30is (230v version of eu3000is) for 1000$ and 70is for 2500$. And it outlasts that generac shit by years. I got mine used for 400$ and it had only 19hrs on the meter , it was not running cus the owner left the fuel on and it flooded the system. I just cleaned the carburettor, changed oil and replaced all fuel delivery components. Runs like new and powers 3kw on propane. I even run non inverter 24000btu air conditioner with no softstart and it starts the compressor like nothing happened.
Like the video! I will consider to buy the generator. I also noticed the gas can spout tubing hack that you use to fill generator gas. Do you have a tutorial for make one of those?? Look very practical but I can't identify all the parts.
That is BS, honda uses their name to pump up the price because they know fools will pay it. I doesn't cost them any more to put together than other brands, so pay for a name you lambs!
Generac is well known around here, the company headquarters is about 10 minutes up the road from where I work! They have 5 plants in the state. Mostly known for industrial. These little inverter generators are great. As much of a Honda fan as I am, you are right these are way cheaper. Hoping the long term reliability is good with these. With a Honda you know it will start up every time you need it to. And wow are these things quiet!
Very interesting info, they have come a long way and caught up a lot in the inverter space. The good reviews are very promising for the longevity too. Thanks for this.
Great video, and good thing you mentioned "heavy duty" extension cord. Most videos omit this part. Yet, "heavy duty" is relative. I don't use anything less than 10 gauge extension cords for this purpose, and 75 feet max. Some I bought, others I got the cord and made the extension myself. Most people take this for granted, and I'm glad home improvement stores now sell extension cords with notations about wire gauge and length. This looks like a great genset to replace my old Honda 2000EU, but does it have built in parallel capabilities? Best to check online, though I've built paralleling buses before and safely. Great features. Never understood Honda's pricing mindset.
Hey buddy, u know more then me. Was wondering why a 10 gauge cord was needed instead. I bought one because of ur comment but what is better about a 10 gauge??
@@paulpersons799 10 gauge wiring may be overkill over 50 ft., but carrying a high load longer can heat the wire to the point of a fire hazard. Besides, there's a bit of margin on the load. For example, I could run a setback and a window A/C on 12 gauge 50 foot extension, but you can feel the extension, getting warm, not hot, just warm. If there's an issue with resistance getting low, now the current gets higher, so having the extra thicker gauge is good insurance. One for of low resistance is, if the plugs separate some, exposing the blades. Eventually the socket and plug would burn, regardless of the wire gauge. It's the cause of a lot house fires. Sure, bigger gauge adds cost, but nice to know there's some buffer. Wire length and gauge is the key. Have a nice day.
@@moriver3857 ok cool, thank god i only bought a 25 footer. Makes sense buddy , thsnks for the help. I just bought a generac 2500 start and 2200 running , i know not the best generator, just in case the power goes out from time to time. I only live in a small apartment. Do u think thst will be enough to power different things ?
I have two of each types, the generac and Hondas. I can tell you that the Hondas are a better product. Easier to start even after sitting for an extended period of time, more reliable, and significantly quieter. The Hondas are my go-to over the generac every time.
This generator is an amazing value. Cheapest price anywhere & free shipping:amzn.to/3TEoIrE + my favorite extension cord: amzn.to/316TEmV
Can you Run your AC on it?
@@slicksteve22 Yes you can run room air conditioners, portable air conditioners and even many split ductless that are 120s.
Hondas are very reliable. Wonder how long a Generac would last vs a Honda

Silver Cymbal I think you’re a lied about it and generac paid you.....nothing beats Honda...
I've had a Honda since 1902. It starts first pull every time. It powers my house, my wife, my kids, my dog, my truck and the nuclear plant down the road. Amazing unit.
That units pretty old. I got a new honda today that powers the sun.
@@rofltube i was getting ready to make a G-D joke, but i had a weird feeling and i saw a few bolts and it's not even raining.

1902?
I inherited my generator from my great grandfather. He bought his after the Civil War.
I work construction, used Honda 3500 for years and years 8 to 12 hours a day. Still use it but for camping now. Still runs perfect was worth the money
And can probably still sell it for 1/2 the original price
Just don’t see why people feel the need to be so negative.
called criticism
Maybe don't put on the thumb nail
Better generator than Honda without (?)
He's copping it because he is claiming they are better than Honda, as his thumbnail clearly says, but they are not even close.
I'm a 100% Honda user, but I appreciate your un-biased, not sponsored reviews on other brands. Thank you for providing these excellent videos.
Comes down to it. Honda has decades of engine expertise. And they don’t skip on quality parts. No thanks. I’ll go with Honda.
@@itsme6026 Honda quality is going down lately unfortunatly due to more and more chinese parts 8( Old is gold
Have one these the first month of having the recoil broke. I fixed it and sure enough it broke again after about the fifth time ended up getting a honda recoil and had to do some mods to get it to fit. Works great now bit if you cant fix it yourself don't get one
Keep the empty oil container for a handy measuring device when it's time to change the oil, too.
Interested abt your generator. But I want to study more abt all your deff models Sir/Madam
When you add oil because it's low, you're not going to be putting a full container. Also when you do an oil change there's always some left so a full container will over fill the generator.
How many ounces of oil does this Genetaron needs ?
Great Idea 💡 Thank You
Good idear
We recently had a nine hour outage, .. my little "quiet" GP2200i performed like a dream. Fridge w freezer, room fan, floor lamps, electronics including TV and a tiny 600 watt microwave and 900 watt induction hotplate. We actually had a movie night using generator .. cozy, not bad!
Great video very informative.
For those mentioning that they’ve never had any problems with their Hondas, this video isn’t knocking Honda. He’s simply giving a review of the generac for people who want something more affordable.
$700 right now... Great at $399 not so great at $700
This generator is sold under several importer band names including Westinghouse, Pulsar, and Workforce. I have had mine for two years and have been very pleased.
Thats great t hear, that helps a lot with people wondering aboiut longevity. I was very impressed with this one.
Yeah I have the Westinghouse variation. I think they are all exactly the same other than a few stupid features like outlet covers or USB plugs. Mine will power my gas furnace, fridge and all my lights. Year old, I take great care of it and run it at least once a month because I know it isn't a Honda.
@@athroop1321 Yes they're. The same engine but Just covered in different coverings.
You guys have been lucky, for the moment. Change your oil often, & cross your fingers. I recommend getting a new generator & keep it handy. I would never feel comfortable running a Generac.
Yes, I have the dual fuel Pulsar version and the engine, air filter, and inverter frame look identical to the Generac.
Nice option- you can do a lot with 2kW of power. I've owned a large generator for years as a standby for my entire house. This product will work for a lot of people who only want to run a few circuits for a fraction of the money required for the full systems. Good vid and thanks!
We have been using Honda generator for 16 years, no major issues works just fine and very reliable.
Just sayin'
damnnnn 😳
This is very true . But with the extra money I have saved , I can get three or four more hookers for the summer . See you over at my place !
Your good friend Vinny in good old Fla.

@@RS-uo2nd Hell, use a personal fan with 8 hookers.
(Obvious sarcasm)
Cool story.
I’ve had a Honda since 1998 , still starts first pull .
How many hours you got on it
Yeah I’ve seen other videos and there are thousands of people that have had major reliability issues.
We have a Honda eg1400x from the 80’s and it has over 700 hours on it and recently a reletive lost power and it powered their fridge and basement freezer for 5 days straight with no issues. Starts first pull, 12 hours on a tank of gas and is 3 decibels quieter than this one.

Great to hear and so true about the maintenance
First of all, good job on the video man. Like most comments, I read I to am a Hona man. When it comes to emergency power Honda is a name I trust. You can run their gens for mega hours and they just keep running like the day you bought it. Generac is a good name in household gens I guess only time will tell how they last as portable units.
I appreciate that and own several Hondas myself. They are very good.
Dude...i hooked up a companion tank to my generac, it leaked gas out the overflow! I cant believe it didnt catch fire
I have had a generac for 11 years. Changed the carburetor twice. Easy to do and cost $25.00. Will give it to my son one day then he will have two!
Thank you for you buying all of these awesome but expensive things to give us videos
I appreciate, I do get some things for free but this was not one of them. This was a good one for the money.
Silver Cymbal I am planning on getting one of these
Wow one of the most informative videos I've seen on TH-cam good job man
Please provide total run times for the generators as a comparison. Idle, medium, and full power load times would be great!
Wow, I was looking for a gen set for mine and my fiance's wedding because we need to run power for 6 crockpots and this sold me. Great review!
Thank you very much, glad it was helpful
How did you make out running 6 crockpot on this small generator ?
A guy on another channel had one of these for a year. He was having trouble starting it low on oil. The oil hadn't been changed for over 300 hrs and was placed on a tilted platform towards the oil fill port. He never did put it on a level surface to fill it properly but at least changed the oil in this poor thing. If you do tilt it, tilt it the other way if you are so busy you can't be bothered to change the oil. All this speaks well for this unit.
I brought a honda 2200i Bluetooth i love it honda all the way so reliable
You have a knack for these kind of reviews. No awkward pauses or rambling on about nothing for minutes. Good job.
I have a Honda 650ex that's at least 30 years old. It runs like new. It will run like new in 30 more years. That generac might be around in 10.
You my friend are full of bs Generac is in my back yard and as for myself and all the surrounding farmers ALL use them and love them Honda’s is foreign garbage that’s over priced. Honda’s are cheap junk now they are not like they were ten years ago +. Please do some research
TheHotandshot91 where is generac made?
Excellent and well done video, straight to the point and very informative.

Not a truer statement. Honda is built to last! And starts every time.
A Honda may last 3 times longer than other brands but it also costs 3 times more. Which makes it a wash from my point of view.
@@nodak81 unless that cheap one dies when you really are counting on it.

100% right, the maintenance is so key to any of these lasting. Great point
my Honda is 40 years old and the only maintenance it needed are a few oil changes and some carburetor cleaner and it still starts first pull so you are getting the reliability for the price you pay. If you get the generac it is about $400 cheaper but I’ve hear reviews of them not lasting long or never working. Basically you will get the reliability that you pay for.
I used to own one of this generator, great machine!
Can you use on a good truck? I have to have at least 6000 watts
Hell, telco isn't even bothering to do maintenance on the cell tower generators any more, let alone their towable units!
You were given bad info
Even the ac, microwave lights and a few things in the outlet at the same time
I have heard some good things about that one, hoping to get a chance to try one soon
Thank you for taking time and giving some review
I appreciate that, thank you.
Also, *I don't own a Honda generator*
The thing with Honda generators is this: they have amazingly long lives.
So Honda is best and best value but I won't buy one.
Passive aggressive right there.
Second Nature Lawn Care
I was surprise that the Honda can run a fridge ,microwave, lights and a window ac unit while I was camping at my cousins cabin. We ran it 24/7 non stop for 3 weeks straight and all we did was just had to refill gas. I was amazed...
Cheap generators like produce dirty power!
Went through a couple of these and had issues. Figured I try the Honda since everyone talked about them. So far no issues . Quite happy
Westinghouse offers the same gen. It's blue. $470 on Amazon. I've ran it 15 hrs a day for 2 months. Zero issues. Starts first pull. Very quiet.
I have heard that westinghouse is good but it's not the same unit. It is siilar but if you look closer there are many differences.
Awesome and very important video for the future, I wanna have one and be ready to use in case of emergency
Get back to us in 2 years. My honda was used and abused for 10 years, didnt even change the oil. Still running and I sold it for half of the original purchase price...
Cant beat a honda no matter what it is
damnnnn 😳
Nice of you to screw the guy you sold it too. buyer beware. thanks for sharing your ignorance.
Mine I got in 2005. Never changed the oil and just keeps running. The carb is a pain but the gen is great in general. All the cheap CHinese knockoffs are a waste of money. I just found out the hard way. At least Harbor Freight refunded all my money.
@@sst6555 it worked perfectly when I sold it. And I bought a brand new Honda EU2000. Just saying.
This portable unit is amazing for the price . I'm a generac technician and work on all generators but hands down these are good units and there hsb units are incredibly reliable.
I was very impressed with it myself. Thanks for the info and feedback
Just grabbed the generac 1200 for $279 at costco. Thanks for your review.
Wow that is a great deal! Gad the video helped.
I agree with everything you say but working on it. To clean the carb on a Honda 15mins, Generac you have to split the case to work on it.
You make great review videos. Keep up the great work dude!
Very nice of you. Thank you
Just replaced my Honda 2000 with another Honda. It was 35 years old.
Proofs in the pudding!!👍

Very col, they have definitely stepped up their game a lot
Spectacular video, I would just like to add 1 thing.....
With any new generator, after filling with oil, leave it in the off position and pull the cord 4-5 times. This will cycle the oil out of the bottom and
"Coat" the motor with oil to avoid ba "dry" start at initial start up.
A lot of people may be having problems with their generators because they weren't broken in properly.
I have a 200$ 2200w non-inverter generator, using it for 6 years, only 35 hours of actual use on it, because it's the only time a had need to use it. I think it will work for many years more, coz I don't use it at maximum power, and do oil changes every 10 hours of use.
Thanks for making this video and where did you get that extension cord that roles up?
Your thorough review got you a subscriber. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
@MaxxHuey1 I second this motion

That;s great to hear. It seems that Generac owns the standby market by a landslide. I see them all over.
Thanks for the video! Just bought this one and ditched my 20 years old Honda. I love this Generac machine!!! No more Honda foreign parts...
looking at the comments i can see im not the only one who believes the Honda is a LOT better than a 1/3 the price chinese generator

This is too hard to believe.
I'm amazed at what this generator does.
It got some practical stuff that got my attention.
What a neat model.

Check back in a few years and let us know how it turned out. My bet is that the Honda will outlast three of the Generac.
Doesn't matter if it's a Honda or RIGGED UP Generator... As long you maintain it, YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS... My Gram-pa gave me a Coleman Generator he got in the 80's and it's till running today.

As cheap and nasty as a Coleman was it is 10 times better made than a Chinese Genecrap.
I would be cautious about buying something that might outlive the technology it was intended for.
next time try before ou bie it
7 yr old Honda here still running 💪. Waited abt a yr an 1/2 4 pulls started right up
hondas are easy to service, how is the generac for servicing? I bought a clarke generator & to change the fuel lines I had to take the who thing to bits
what is the difference between "inverter" and the non-kind? prepper newbie here
Traditional generators are fine for running more basic equipment that isn't sensitive to how "clean" the power is... think power tools, fans, appliances (although newer appliances are definitely more "electronic" and sensitive than older ones).
1:07 it's explained well in the video as well. The answer above is spot on tho.
The Tide generator
The Honda will last 5 times longer so cheaper in the long run and also more environmentally friendly since less wastage from broken ones from China.
I don’t disagree that the Honda is a well built machine. But the Honda is no longer made in Japan. They make generators in China and Thailand.
Honda generators is made in Wuhan China
Been looking into these, thanks for the great video, perfectly timed find on my end.

Welcome!
I bought one of these. I've put about 70 hours on it now and have had no issues at all. It's ridiculously quiet.
I bought this same generator from Costco. First time out using it camping, it failed. Glad Costco took it back. It was not as quiet as the Honda we had, but seemed like a good value. Just disappointed it stopped working on the 1st voyage out
Power your air conditioner? Not with 1700 watts. Maybe a small window unit but not a central system.
He only mentioned heat

It would be nice to be able to run an exhaust line outside while it is secure is closed garage so nobody would run off with it in the middle of the night.

Thank you for this, very good information here!
My Honda powered me through both of those hurricanes.
Yeah definitely. Minimum needed to survive is best.

Been using a Duromax 2000w for a few years. Same as that Generac. Yamaha clone engines, made in china... Great machines. Live on 5 acres and just used it to power an electric pole saw at the bottom of the driveway.
@@paulpersons799 Yes.
I have two of each types, the generac and Hondas. I can tell you that the Hondas are a better product. Easier to start even after sitting for an extended period of time, more reliable, and significantly quieter. The Hondas are my go-to over the generac every time.
