He actually played a pretty major role in Season 3 of GX. While the school was stuck in the other dimension, he found the jewel tablet and was able to create the Rainbow Dragon card, which allows them to get back to the real world.

Just a little extra bit of trivia. Pegasus is the only character in the manga to have their english dub name. When the english version of the manga was released, Pegasus was the only character who didn't keep their original Japanese name. Everyone else like Jonouchi, Honda etc. had their original names. Interestingly enough, Zexal was the first Yugioh manga since the original to not use the dub names when printed in english.

You're right in that it's not really noticeable, because he's simply referred to as Pegasus mainly in both versions. But in the original, it's Pegasus J. Crawford whereas in the dub it's Maximilian Pegasus. The change always stood out to me though because in Volume 1 of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist on the character bio page, it directly mentions how his name is Pegasus J. Crawford in the original Japanese manga.
seeing all this brutality from the manga and hearing all the differences makes me really want to start reading the yu gi oh manga and see how much different it is.

Nice analysis. One thing I would like to point out that I think you may have misunderstood is Pegasus' intention for taking over KaibaCorp in the manga. Pegasus didn't want KC just for pure greed or power. He wanted the company because of its high powered hologram technology. Pegasus' wish was that once he obtained control of the company, he could use that hologram technology to create a life-like projection of Cyndia. This is important because it differs from his anime counterpart's intentions. In the anime he was under the impression he could bring her back to life; in the manga he realizes that's impossible but he still wants to create the feeling of her physical presence which is why the hologram tech would be useful. Pegasus realizes he's chasing an empty dream since the hologram is clearly nothing like a real person but he's blinded by this illusion. Part of it is also caused by the Millennium Eye which has driven him insane ever since he first obtained it, eventually leading to his death. He's a very tragic villain and his death is quite poignant because it makes us ask if he really deserved to die. After all he was just a person with his own desires and he tried to fulfill them even if it was through dishonorable means. This puts him in a moral gray area which I feel really gives his character some depth to it. I feel these aspects of his character were not captured that well in the anime which is why I prefer the manga version but the anime version was nice too.
Well said, yeah maybe I didn't grasp the full analysis of Pegasus's manga character as well as I could of. Its also been a while since I read the DM manga! Very well said, that was interesting to read!
I do not think that there is a "gray moral" about Pegasus' story. That is the reason why Takahashi Kazuki developed the idea of penalty game (it is more noticeable in season 0) and also it is present in YGO DM. That is because he was bullied in school and it was appealing to him the idea of someone who punishes the ones who acted wrong (even If they thought that they had valid reasons about it).
Pegasus has been a character I liked for a very long time. It was awesome that Toons popped up again in recent Packs! (Red-Eyes, DM, Barrel Dragon, Buster Blader) I still think there's potential for more such as Celtic Guardian, Jinzo, BLS, Flame Swordsman, Gaia, or cards from later series.
With the English dub, I always liked the actor they got for Pegasus, I mean the stuff he was given to say wasn't great, his voice suited the characters design and persona and it's awesome seeing the voice actor doing live performances at Yugioh events.
I like Pegasus more in the Anime better but i honestly didn't like how he lost to Mai in the waking the dragons arc i personally thought his soul should've been taken by Raphael or Dartz himself also am i the only one who thinks that the way Pegasus died in the manga was savage and brutal as fuck? I mean GOD DAMN Yami Bakura, this is Yu-Gi-Oh! not Mortal Kombat....glad i didn't read that part of the manga as a child.......but yeah Pegasus is also one of my favorite yugioh antagonists and characters i kinda wish he made an appearance and met with Yusei in 5d's like he met Jaden in GX.
Jaden Omega Yeah, he shouldn't have lost to fucking Mai. Mai is on the same Tier as Duelists like Joey, Rex, Weevil etc, which is a Tier FAR below the likes of Pegasus, Yugi, Kaiba, Marik, Dartz etc. He should've been taken down by Dartz only imo. Raphael would've been a better choice than Mai but still, Raphael doesn't deserve to even take on, let alone beat, someone like Pegasus.
I'm honestly kind of torn between Pegasus in the manga and Pegasus in the anime. I mean, Pegasus was a great character in the anime, and he was just so amazingly camp. However, in the manga, Pegasus's death led to Yu-Gi-Oh! R, which was a great series.
I liked it when they kept him alive, he fought against loss and grief and played a major role to help out Yugi, Seto, Joey and Jaden. In my opinion they chose right to keep him because in the end he redeemed himself.
Man people were really all about the Millennium Ring in the manga. A guy stole it, Pegasus wanted to buy it, Bakura's dad wanted to buy it, and it ends up in the hands of a child who was just listening to his father.
Pegasus is one of my favorite redeemable villains, the only one that can make you laugh and terrify you at the same time! I think killing him off was one of the worst mistakes that the manga made, and I'm so glad the anime continued to use him for the following seasons because he's just such an enjoyable character to watch! ❤ I honestly wish he had been used more. Especially with his English voice actor, that guy is amazing!

You could have based his deck profile on the duels from the Movie and when Alister used his deck. These are more Toon focused than Relinquised though. I always felt that Relinquished represented the Millennium Eye, thus why we don't see it in any of Pegasus' later decks, since he lost the eyes. Also, you forgot to mention his appearance in the Bonds Beyond Time movie where he gets killed again for a short time.
I could've mentioned that! But I felt BBT is kind of an alternate timeline so thats why I chose not to mention it, through Pegasus's eyes, none of that ever occured

I like his motivations in the manga a bit more, because his motivations aren't just to take over KaibaCorp out of greed, that's what you're supposed to think at the beginning, but then it's revealed that Pegasus was planning on using Kaiba's Solid Vision technology and the power of the Millennium Items in order to "revive" Cyndia. It adds this really tragic element to his story because despite having this all-seeing Eye, he's blind to the truth: that Cyndia is gone, and even creating her image with Solid Vision couldn't bring her back. But he never figures that out, because he's killed before he can realize it.
The ring is only OP when not actually dueling lol. What happens if the millennium eye reads the mind of the one (ishizu in this case) wielding the millennium necklace
Pegasus is okay and generally stops being a villain after Duelist Kingdom, but my favorite baddie is probably Dartz. The way he pushes Atem's buttons, one ancient ruler to another, making him doubt himself to the point of almost surrendering the duel, is enthralling. Besides, they sort of bring in a Pegasus wannabe in the form of Zigfried von Schroeder.
IMO excluding those minor S5 villains Dartz was the worst. Rafael was wayyyy better as he defeated Atem and made him doubt himself. Dark Malik was the best imo. He killed off his father, Mai and I guess you can count Jonouchi for like 5 minutes. He almost beat Atem too if the Malik didn’t beat him. The Duel was basically lost but Malik ended up surrendering.
It's kind of funny how Kaiba effectively is broken mentally not once, but twice by similar tactics: Pegasus and then Ishizu. Also, his deck can be summarized by "Childhood wonder and Childhood nightmares".
“He’s the first ever villain in all of Yugioh” Well... didn’t Shadi try and kill Anzu/Tea? Bakura tried to enslave their minds. Kaiba tried to kill them. Also, and I could be mistaken, I don’t think they actually used laser beams. I think it was a mind struggle (like Bakura stated in the English Dub) and the lasers were a way to actually show it. It’s the same with Yugi’s height and voice. Yugi doesn’t actually grow or get a deeper voice when Atem takes over. Those are just ways to show the viewer that Atem is in control.
The DM manga isn't the only manga that predates its anime. The Zexal manga also does but only for the first bit of it. Eventually, they start running at the same time which leads their stories to diverge. However, the first part of the anime is directly based on the manga with only a few differences such as one of the duels being split into two duels.

The first antagonist in all of yugioh would actually be Ushio, the bully with the big eyebrows from chapter 1. And if your just talking about the anime, I think Kaiba kidnapping Grandpa in episode 1 qualifies him as an antagonist.
It's funny that in both Japanese and English, Pegasus showed why English honorifics are different from Japanese ones. Interestingly enough, Atem would have won that Shadow Game if it wasn't for his pride getting in the way. All he needed to do was kill the damn Jar Djinn. Was Pegasus supposed to have died in the anime like his manga counterpart, originally? 7:41 How amusing, Silver Fang is Level 3 in the actual card game (and anime) but Level 5 in the manga. I'm surprised you didn't mention that Pegasus is so messed up that he wanted Kaiba Corp. in order to create a hologram of Cyndia.
I always felt that the ahem 'disappearances' of Pegasus' team that discovered the Pharaoh's stone and worked to create the Egyptian God cards was a not so subtle reference to Howard Carter and his discovery of King Tut's tomb with the supposed curse.
Pegasus also appears in season 3 when yubel moves the academy to a different dimmesion yeah for a weird reason the writers wanted Pegasus to appear there when the Academy disappeared and not seto kaiba who owns the Academy
I haven't watched the video yet, but I hope you bring up how his duel against Yugi is the only legitimate duel between people with millennium items. I don't quite count Atem's duels against Yami Marik and Yami Bakura because, while separate personalities are dueling, that could just be replaced by...well, two other people dueling. But against Pegasus, Pegasus uses his mind-reading eye to have an obvious edge in a card game. Yami and Yugi have to swap constantly to prevent Pegasus from guessing his strategies. This puts him above Marik, who cheated in every game except his final match, and not like exaggerating card effects, but by legit harming the other players. I wish the other millennium items had powers that gave advantages to card games, as opposed to "I control people" or "I take souls".
I love Pegasus in both the Duel Monsters anime and in the manga. I think he is more redeemable/understandable in the anime, where as in the manga he is just more villainous. I love both.
You should really do Bakura or Zane/Ryo Marufuji? If that’s how you say it. They’re both really good characters and I really enjoyed Jun something/Chazz and I think those two would be really cool.
Pegasus still played a not so unimportant role in the third season of GX when he used the stone tablet for the Rainbow Dragon and made it into a card so that it could be send to Johan in the other dimension.

He's definitely one of my Top 10 favourite YuGiOh characters of all time. Not on likes of Aki, Zane, Kaito or Reiji for me. But he will always be one of my TOP antagonists.

Yeah people really liked Pegasus. That was why he was spared in the Duel Monsters anime, the anime creators figured they'd keep a popular character alive so they could use him down the road.

You forgot to mention Yugioh R. There is revealed Keith wasn't killed by Pegasus, that Pegasus create the Wicked Gods as a counter to the Egyptian Gods, and Yako actually was able to revive Pegasus for a brief amount of time. Also, fun fact. When Bakura is leaving after get the ME, you can see cards on the table so is strongly implied they dueled and Bakura win, despite the advantages of the mind scan. Gotta give credit for this!

I liked it when they kept him alive, he fought against loss and grief and played a major role to help out Yugi, Seto, Joey and Jaden.
In my opinion they chose right to keep him because in the end he redeemed himself.
Doesn’t he want to be able to revive his lover in the manga too? I read it pretty recently.

I think the ending for Pegasus in the manga is more fitting, even if it was tragic and brutal.
Man people were really all about the Millennium Ring in the manga. A guy stole it, Pegasus wanted to buy it, Bakura's dad wanted to buy it, and it ends up in the hands of a child who was just listening to his father.
Pegasus is one of my favorite redeemable villains, the only one that can make you laugh and terrify you at the same time! I think killing him off was one of the worst mistakes that the manga made, and I'm so glad the anime continued to use him for the following seasons because he's just such an enjoyable character to watch! ❤ I honestly wish he had been used more. Especially with his English voice actor, that guy is amazing!

You could have based his deck profile on the duels from the Movie and when Alister used his deck. These are more Toon focused than Relinquised though. I always felt that Relinquished represented the Millennium Eye, thus why we don't see it in any of Pegasus' later decks, since he lost the eyes.
Also, you forgot to mention his appearance in the Bonds Beyond Time movie where he gets killed again for a short time.
I could've mentioned that! But I felt BBT is kind of an alternate timeline so thats why I chose not to mention it, through Pegasus's eyes, none of that ever occured

I like his motivations in the manga a bit more, because his motivations aren't just to take over KaibaCorp out of greed, that's what you're supposed to think at the beginning, but then it's revealed that Pegasus was planning on using Kaiba's Solid Vision technology and the power of the Millennium Items in order to "revive" Cyndia. It adds this really tragic element to his story because despite having this all-seeing Eye, he's blind to the truth: that Cyndia is gone, and even creating her image with Solid Vision couldn't bring her back. But he never figures that out, because he's killed before he can realize it.

I remember watching the Doma Arc Subbed and hearing Pegasus's voice for the first time in Japanese. He sounded like a ghost.

Pegasus is okay and generally stops being a villain after Duelist Kingdom, but my favorite baddie is probably Dartz. The way he pushes Atem's buttons, one ancient ruler to another, making him doubt himself to the point of almost surrendering the duel, is enthralling.
Besides, they sort of bring in a Pegasus wannabe in the form of Zigfried von Schroeder.
IMO excluding those minor S5 villains Dartz was the worst. Rafael was wayyyy better as he defeated Atem and made him doubt himself. Dark Malik was the best imo. He killed off his father, Mai and I guess you can count Jonouchi for like 5 minutes. He almost beat Atem too if the Malik didn’t beat him. The Duel was basically lost but Malik ended up surrendering.
It's kind of funny how Kaiba effectively is broken mentally not once, but twice by similar tactics: Pegasus and then Ishizu.
Also, his deck can be summarized by "Childhood wonder and Childhood nightmares".

Also, and I could be mistaken, I don’t think they actually used laser beams. I think it was a mind struggle (like Bakura stated in the English Dub) and the lasers were a way to actually show it. It’s the same with Yugi’s height and voice. Yugi doesn’t actually grow or get a deeper voice when Atem takes over. Those are just ways to show the viewer that Atem is in control.

Technically he didn’t beat Yugi in the tape, the time ran out before Yugi could finish his attack with Summoned Skull
The DM manga isn't the only manga that predates its anime. The Zexal manga also does but only for the first bit of it. Eventually, they start running at the same time which leads their stories to diverge. However, the first part of the anime is directly based on the manga with only a few differences such as one of the duels being split into two duels.

The first antagonist in all of yugioh would actually be Ushio, the bully with the big eyebrows from chapter 1. And if your just talking about the anime, I think Kaiba kidnapping Grandpa in episode 1 qualifies him as an antagonist.

It's funny that in both Japanese and English, Pegasus showed why English honorifics are different from Japanese ones. Interestingly enough, Atem would have won that Shadow Game if it wasn't for his pride getting in the way. All he needed to do was kill the damn Jar Djinn. Was Pegasus supposed to have died in the anime like his manga counterpart, originally? 7:41 How amusing, Silver Fang is Level 3 in the actual card game (and anime) but Level 5 in the manga. I'm surprised you didn't mention that Pegasus is so messed up that he wanted Kaiba Corp. in order to create a hologram of Cyndia.

I always felt that the ahem 'disappearances' of Pegasus' team that discovered the Pharaoh's stone and worked to create the Egyptian God cards was a not so subtle reference to Howard Carter and his discovery of King Tut's tomb with the supposed curse.

Pegasus also appears in season 3 when yubel moves the academy to a different dimmesion yeah for a weird reason the writers wanted Pegasus to appear there when the Academy disappeared and not seto kaiba who owns the Academy
I haven't watched the video yet, but I hope you bring up how his duel against Yugi is the only legitimate duel between people with millennium items. I don't quite count Atem's duels against Yami Marik and Yami Bakura because, while separate personalities are dueling, that could just be replaced by...well, two other people dueling. But against Pegasus, Pegasus uses his mind-reading eye to have an obvious edge in a card game. Yami and Yugi have to swap constantly to prevent Pegasus from guessing his strategies. This puts him above Marik, who cheated in every game except his final match, and not like exaggerating card effects, but by legit harming the other players. I wish the other millennium items had powers that gave advantages to card games, as opposed to "I control people" or "I take souls".
I love Pegasus in both the Duel Monsters anime and in the manga. I think he is more redeemable/understandable in the anime, where as in the manga he is just more villainous. I love both.

Pegasus still played a not so unimportant role in the third season of GX when he used the stone tablet for the Rainbow Dragon and made it into a card so that it could be send to Johan in the other dimension.

you forgot that in the manga of gx he gave the light and darkness dragon to Koyo Hibiki the champion which ended up playing a large role.

You forgot to mention Yugioh R. There is revealed Keith wasn't killed by Pegasus, that Pegasus create the Wicked Gods as a counter to the Egyptian Gods, and Yako actually was able to revive Pegasus for a brief amount of time.
Also, fun fact. When Bakura is leaving after get the ME, you can see cards on the table so is strongly implied they dueled and Bakura win, despite the advantages of the mind scan. Gotta give credit for this!
