    Closest thing I can think of is the “Star Wars Art: Ralph McQuarrie” which is all of the early Star Wars concept art for the original trilogy, it is 200$ - 800 large pages and really 2 books

    • @MatthewFabb
      @MatthewFabb 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      There's also the two volumes of The Star Wars Archives by Paul Duncan that are $200 each. They are huge oversized books that are both over 600 pages each the first one covering the original triology and the 2nd one covering the prequels. The book publisher also offers a much smaller cheaper version with a decreased page count of both the books for just $40.

    • @forsafemode
      @forsafemode 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@MatthewFabbYes two trilogy books from Taschen. I hold both copies and they are massive books. 600+ pages and weighing around 8-9kg (20 pounds) each. A gigantic book that throws an impression and filled with in depth, behind the scene information. If that one costs 200 dollars, this book should certainly be less than 100 dollars

    I'm so glad we got people like you reviewing LEGO sets, or a book in this case, to let some of us have a better idea as to what we may be buying. Personally, I really find this book interesting but I think on it's own, it would be more appealing at a $50 price. I'm not really sure what LEGO were thinking when they put $150 as a price tag on this to be honest, even with this "deluxe edition". Let's hope they do a "peasant version" for a sane price. And congrats for getting your Geonosis MOC published in an official LEGO book David, that really is something else!

    Regardless of what anyone says, I don’t think this whole package is worth more than $80. It’s a damn book. Yeah there’s cool stuff but even hardcore Lego Star Wars fans are having a hard time justifying this purchase. They should’ve had at least 3 exclusive figures for $150 but that still wouldn’t have justified that price. I’ll get it if it goes on a deep clearance sale which I feel will happen. Just shows Lego’s greed once again.

I just focus on those hard cover books that focus on building techniques for LEGO. As a newer AFOL, I find the investment in those (via discounts on Amazon) more worth the value. So like with most Lego Star Wars sets, you put a black rectangle around it and then magically jack up the price by 40%.

    Lego had to send it so early just so M&R didn’t beat them to the review 😂😂

    I would've been SOLD if the Timeline did have a picture for each set released, not just text. Its already $150, just add a couple more pages for pictures. I feel like they fumbled it there.

    It's a collectors book which is why is costs that much, its a lot but not uncommon for books. If you go to Easton Press or Folio Society they have books that sell for that much and more. It's not for everyone and is aimed towards the "hardcore" collectors

    The price isn't nuts compared to other high end art of Star Wars books (examples the Ralph McQuarrie and large format Archives books). I do wish you could buy this without the time capsule though. That's stuff I have no need for. Would have rather they added extra pages with photos and descriptions/history covering those items. Hope they do release it separately (and cheaper), but keep the quality and slimmed down slipcase

    Books are very expensive. Especially collectible ones. I collect leather bound books and have spent over $1000 on a single book. $150 isn’t too bad when you consider who it’s targeted towards. Maybe they could have dropped it to $100 but I’ll still be picking it up. Great review!

    I'd really like high quality scans of the game stuff. Storyboards for an entire cutscene that didn't make it into the first game? That's notable.

    In all honesty, $150 for something of that quality isn’t crazy. Just a hardcover copy of my 70 page thesis cost like $110 and it didn’t have nearly the detail/color/quality this book has. I’m excited for it!

    Will the book be a one time pre-order only exclusive run? Or will this be available for the rest of the year or beyond? Do you have any insight on that, because if they do just decide to release the book only later. I can see that time capsule stuff being worth quite the penny on the aftermarket.

    This book looks awesome but I just... cant see $150 in this. I've purchased my fair share of concept art books for video games and not one has ever been remotely close to this... which is basically a glorified art book with some extra goodies.
    For a comparison, the most expensive one I have is the Legend of Zelda BOTW Creating a Champion (Hero's Edition) which includes a BEEFY 420-page book full of concept art and notes as well as a handful of other goodies including a big cloth-paper map of Hyrule that I have framed and hanging in my home. That retailed for $100, though now you can get it for like $60.
    With what you showed off in this video, I dont see how this Lego SW book can cost 50% more than the Zelda book I have. I suppose that this is an even more niche item thats only for the most diehard fans and collectors of Lego AND Star Wars, but it still just seems grossly overpriced to me. But then again, Lego usually is pretty overpriced anyways...
