      Thanks for the review. My first Hasselblad. I just unboxed it, first firmware upgrade 2.0 to 3.1, colours awesome, face detect accurate, 38 XCD V lens sitting firm, non of that reported wobble, lens super sharp, image stabilisation awesome, 0.3 sec hand held no problem, … but about 5000, well, looks more like 10000 hot pixels at least 🙈🙈🙈. Will be returned right tomorrow. Honestly, I’m asking myself if they have any kind of quality control in Sweden. Sensors like that NEVER my leave the company built into a camera, only by the trash bin. I never saw a sensor with that many hot pixels. Not 5, 10 or 50. It’s 10k.

    Just got mine several weeks ago...Every time I shoot with this camera I find myself mesmerized by the images it produces, "Holy $#!+" is what I find myself uttering to my inner dialogue...This camera system took a while for my decision to pull the trigger and commit to buying into even though I was a Hasselblad shooter in the days of film; nevertheless, I'm beyond ecstatic with the results and completely satisfied with my choice...Gajan...your video review is spot-on!

    This is the X2D review I can relate to and agree with the most and I’ve watched so many. Really glad you touched on the user experience the way you did.
    I’m a day one owner and was a follower of the release rumors from nearly a year prior to that. I waited and saved for a long time in anticipation of this camera and it still surpassed my expectations. Already gone through many thousands of actuations and it blows me away every time. Truly what I dreamt cameras being capable of back when I was a child.

    Thanks for your review. I had the Leica M11 and SL2 before I bought the X2D. Wow, once I got the X2D on my hands and took some photos, I decisively sold all my Leica gears, including accessories such as filters. This camera is the best I have used. 3D pops are the key. Skin tones, which other cameras cannot get it even through Lightroom adjustments, are the most accurate. Basically, I don’t need to process too much after shooting. I recommend your readers to try it once, they will surely know what I mean. For me, Leica gears are much more inferior than this one, no matter in image quality, enjoyment and user experience. X2D is a value buy at all. Thanks.

    I’ll be in the market for a medium format camera in 2024/2025 for my fine Art photography work.
    Hasselblad x2d has been on my radar for a while now but with the current rumors that Leica is working to release their medium format camera (SL?) possibly in 2025 has me excited for this. Especially when I’m planning to invest so much into a new camera. 📷

    Yes, you are right. This is a very good solution to the "take a picture problem." It is the camera I have dreamed of for years as I worked my way through other brands. One error in your review, the LCD screen swings up another notch to nearly horizontal, to the best position as very few folks will be looking down from exactly above the camera. Flip it up to stop #2. ;o) I love the IQ, lenses, color and the wonderful using of this camera.
    A tip of the hat for your graciously showing your street subjects how they photographed. That's class, Gajan, that's class.

    Great review! Funny how people are reacting to the cost of this Medium Format camera. The old Hasselblad was what $47k? I saw a head-to-head with that $47k Hasselblad and the X2D came out on top for 25% OF THE COST. Imagine the new type of work you can jump into!! And the new Phase One is $67k? Does everyone forget that the Nikon D3X circa 2008 was launched at $7999.99!!
    This is the deal of the century for what this is. And you didn’t even talk about the control of light you can get with a sync speed of 1/4000. I’d say try that on a Sony, but you cannot until the Alpha 9iii ($6,000 and no memory cards + only CF-A) comes out and I’ve already seen head-to-head and the X2D came out ahead by a large margin!!

  • @doogieham
    @doogieham 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice review, Gajan. I’d like to see a three-way flip screen incorporated into the body. I think it would be very helpful especially because the touch interface is so responsive and there is no joystick. BTW, the multi-profile upgrade you mention @14:08 is interesting-would that be similar to the Film Simulation Bracketing function on GFX cameras?

  • @TeteRecinos
    @TeteRecinos 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Excellent video per usual. The constant improvement of the X2D fills me with hope for Hasselblad. I thought the S4 (if it ever comes out) was almost guaranteed to take the x2d's place as the high-end rival to the GFX but now I'm not so sure. Competition in this camera segment will be fantastic for all of us.

    Gajan: this is where I want to go , to do my dedicated imaging for stills , I have Sony A7s2 right now , my A7r2 is not operating well , and my Medium Format camera's are Rollei Wide E model 55mm F4 , and Rollei D 75mm 3.5 ... the Rollei Wide takes scintillating images , still learning her , she isa true gem ... but for digital , the X-100 Hasselblad is amazing.
    Yes adding 2 organic , filmic presets into the system would be killer too. You cannot replace the glow , the verve of Film ...and the DISTAGON 55mm F4 , that is an incredible Zeiss lens. Good video , top - notch Gajan 💪🏻

    I wish I had the budget for the X2D, however I’m still super fortunate I was able to sell my Beloved 500CM and put the proceeds towards the X1Dii and the 45p lens. WOW just wow. 100% agree on all points. I think HB has to step up their marketing. They use all the cheap cheesy lines like "sharp", "bokeh" etc aiming to ppl who cant even afford to buy an iPhone. this superb camera has so much (all of that you already mentioned) it deserves better presentation. I use Leica M10R for streets to get grungy photos. but the HB is superb for clean, natural, airy 3D looking images. Absolutely love it. I use it for landscape mainly. thank you very much

    • @ericleeker8252
      @ericleeker8252 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why would they step up their marketing? The old saying "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" applies to Hasselblad. They aren't going to convince someone to buy it with marketing.

    • @tjmanou6422
      @tjmanou6422 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ericleeker8252 what I mean is, when one makes a Bentley and uses the marketing approach of the Nissan they miss their audience. Of course it’s an extreme example but to illustrate my view. I have been in HB for 10+ years and they use too many bad photographers, TH-camrs bad prints not properly highlighting the actual strengths and what this machine can accomplish. using words like “it’s sharp” etc just like any homeless TH-camrs do “reviewing” a gear. If youtube charges $5 per video upload all of these bedroom experts who complain about the price would disappear. I think they need to focus on the unique quality that this camera has. Anyway it’s a big topic but hopefully makes sense what I’m saying.

      I used GFX for many years. now own X2D. if money is not an issue X2D hands down. dont even think about it. GFX is muddy when it comes to colors and 3D contrast. they also now are cutting corners to make cheaper lenses to appeal to larger market, which effects the image quality. The GFX is a faster camera. The X2D gives me a better file to start with and a more enjoyable user experience. It really comes down to what matters more to your work.
      For me, the files coming out of the X2D felt noticeably better than the GFX100s and the in-hand experience was nicer (even without the d-pad).

    • @GajanBalan
      @GajanBalan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MedicalAppraisals I found that I had a higher hit rate handheld with the X2D. The IBIS performed better and when it said that a face was in focus, it was actually in focus.
      That being said, I could fire off way more shots in succession with the GFX and end up with a larger absolute of in focus shots, so it really depends on how and what you capture often.
      Last, the new lenses are just great. I loved the fact I could hit the clutch and go into manual focus with hard stops. I know this may not be for everyone, but it made my experience so much better in challenging light. Hope this helps!

    • @gordoncahill1170
      @gordoncahill1170 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have both and the GFX100II. I’d also pick the X2D for street and travel. I don’t think the files are better and in general the camera is a bit slower. The GFX cameras have a tri flip screen and better eye detect focus. But the X2D is much smaller in the hand. It feels more agile. It’s an ergonomic masterpiece. The manual focus experience with the V lenses is brilliant. The IBIS is better. The new face detect does work and it has transformed the camera. Hopefully they’ll keep developing this further.
      I like the X2D enough that it has essentially replaced my M11 for travel photography.

    I saw that you have your Leica M-11 slung over your other shoulder, while using the X2D. Did you find yourself using the Leica in certain situations and the Hasselblad in others? Would love to see a comparison between the two, besides the obvious (full-frame vs. medium format, etc.).

    Hello Gajan! What type of strap do you use with the camera? On minute 7:17 it seems that you have sometype of connector to attach to the strap , and then to the camera, or that comes with the camera? Because even on the offcial Hasselblad website it does not shoe how to attach a better strap by a safer method, instead of the “pin” type of connector that the camera comes from factory. Thanks for the very nice video!

      I don’t think there’s a reason to switch over if you’re gonna put megapixels aside. In a situation like yours, I’d be hard-pressed to tell you to add or switch to an X2D.
      The reality is that most people that are looking for a camera like this already have a bit of an idea. If your priority is resolution, colour accuracy, and you have the time to stage a shot, the X2D results are sublime.

For me, I’m trying to avoid payments unless is a staged/editorial type of shot. A couple of things.
    1. The LCD tilts up to 80 degrees. A second position. There’s resistance. But the issue is it’s blocked by the EVF cover. It needs to move away from the body. Also there’s no switch to disable the EVF?LCD switch when the LCD is up so if it’s close to your body it can auto switch to the EVF.
    2. I’d prefer a joystick than a Dpad. Take the one from the SL2 and be done with it. Put it where the AFD button is and move that to the LCD (have 5 buttons. there’s plenty of room).
    3. Auto ISO in manual mode. How is this not there already.
    4. B&W live view. Don’t actually care about the file. Just the EVF view for composition.
    5. Zoom lenses. A super wide and medium tele zoom lens. This is why I still use the GFX system as well. Also wouldn’t say no to a compact 180mm and a 120mm f2.5.
    I just got back from 2 weeks in India with the X2D. Camera was brilliant. IQ was sublime. Wish the new firmware dropped before this trip but so far it works really well and good for the next trip. I’m still running a GFX100II as well for the zooms and although it has vastly more features and is faster I still prefer the ‘blad where ever possible. It’s just a fun camera to use. Like a porky M11 with AF.
