@@italymadeeasy ohh...tbh i have a few, for example where should I use " si ", i always hear that in many situations and actually i already got used to but still don't know exactly rules for this.( There's a few videos on this topic on TH-cam but argh...).
Another... maybe it'd be helpful to have...like a list with words which we would be able to use when we're not sayin anything and when it's like uncomfortable silence, y'know 😂it doesn't have to be something hard or anything like that but maybe such words as " cioè/allora etc "(and which we had better use and which would be more natural for Italian native speakers).
(Or maybe even such English phrase that we use aalll the time kinda " i mean, like " and others)

This is fantastic, Manu (and yes, I took copious notes and will add it to the folder I started with "prego"!). Your content and methods are unparalleled. What a pleasure to listen to a fellow lover of language tease out the shades of meaning for such a common but complex term with absolute clarity and stellar examples! The differentiation in intonation and even in facial expression and gesture is crucial and so beautifully executed. Lessons like this elevate your students to the next level in comprehension and comfort with the subtleties of spoken Italian. Le ringrazio, professore! Stammi bene.

@@italymadeeasy Thank you for asking, Manu. There's too much, really, most of it too technical for these types of videos. I always enjoy listening to conversations between native speakers -- just in navigating everyday stuff, or an exchange of ideas on a specific topic -- but that's much harder to manage in these days of social distancing! Mostly I don't know what I don't know -- e.g., about the many shades of meaning of "magari"! -- and you are adept at finding important and interesting things to teach that we didn't know we should know! I listen gratefully to everything you offer. Grazie ancora!

"Μακάρι" (macari, toned in the second syllable as italian "magari") has a similar meaning in modern greek. Also, I found out that both words share a common etymology from ancient greek word "μακάριον" (macarion, blessed). Also, "μακάρι" and magari are etymologically related to italian pasta "macaroni", greek chistmas honey-biscuits "μελομακάρονα" (melomacarona).

Manu, your explanations are incredible. What would we do without you?!! It would take us many years to work out these things for ourselves (if we ever managed to work them out at all!) Only a couple of days ago I was thinking to myself that the longer I learn Italian the more I realise you can rarely translate directly from English to Italian (...like you often can with other languages - for example it's much easier to translate directly from English to French). I really believe that's part of the charm of the Italian language (and part of the challenge for us learners - 'challenge' in a good way). Thank you so much for being the best teacher!! It makes my day every time I watch one of your videos.

Manu this is great. I didn't know there were so many uses for "magari". Many are similar and have a positive, "wishful, " meaning while others have an opposite connotation. There is a word in Spanish that sort of matches many, but not all, of the meanings of magari, which is "ojalá ". Ojala derives from the Arabic "law shah allah," which means "if God should want," which seems to apply to some of the examples you showed us.

Questo si usa per qualcosa vicino a te. This in English. Esto en español.
Quello si usa per qualcosa che si trova più lontano di te. That in English. Aquello en español.
(Non so qual'è la tua lingua madre)

Questo is being used to indicate towards something near you
It is like english equivalent of " this"
Quello on the other hand is used to indicate towards something far away from you
      Like english "that"
      So
      This girl is so beautiful
      Questa ragazza è bellissima
(This can work if the girl i am refering to is near me)
      That girl is so beautiful
      Quella ragazza è bellissima
(say if i am talking to someone and i indicate towards a girl standing few feet away, cannot use " questa in that case")
      Keep in mind
Ragazza is feminine so it is
      Questa and quella
Libro for example is il libro
      Therefore
      Questo and quel libro
      It can be refered to
      These and those
If we are talking about plural
      Than it would be
      Queste and questi
      Quelle and quelli
I am first year student of italian so someone please verify my info i have just given

This seems to require context and physical presence for proper interpretation. How do you use magari when writing?
If someone sends an email that they hope to see you soon, it seems to me that if you write back "magari!" it would be hard to interpret. If they use a translation program most likely they will think you said "maybe".

As a linguist and a person who has learned 5 languages, I decided to adopt the pedagogical method which, based on my experience, works better and is more useful: learning (teaching) the theory of a foreign language (grammar, strategies etc) in student's mother tongue (therefore English for the audience of Italy Made Easy), and listen to many interesting materials in the language that you are studing. Learning the grammar and theory of the Italian language in Italian would be a waste of time for the student (who would understand only a small portion of the concepts taught and necessary) and for me, since in that way my students would not learn Italian, or at least they would learn it much more slowly.
We at Italy Made Easy produce a lot of 100% Italian content, but only interesting and fun things that students can use to improve their listening and understanding skills in Italian (and the pronunciation!!). In short, I hope you can use our materials to help you with learning Italian! 😊
