    I love that you let your kids walk and play in the dirt. Makes for healthy kids. Of course a warm bath at the end of the day is a blessing.

    I remember your first video I watched was your old chicken coop...you've come a long way in TH-cam and life since then!! You guys always do quality work, such a great coop! Your hard work definitely paid off. Keep it up!!

    @arberhayes9925 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great job! Well thought out! I like that it is so sturdy. Your chickens will be safe and warm. Front doors are attractive and functional. Like the chicken door set up in the outside wall too. You will have chickens sending in applications to you asking to be allowed to live at your farm!!! ;-) XX

    My favorite part of the cube is that you used hardware cloth instead of chicken wire. I learned the hard way that chicken wire will keep chickens in, but not predators out. You guys did a great job. Love it.

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Predator protection is something that we were really trying to keep in mind. If the wire were lower to the ground or closer to the chickens we would have done a 1/2" mesh. Thank you :)

      Coop. I meant coop. I hate auto correct. LOL. Yeah, I actually went through the thought process about the size of the hardware cloth, but then I saw where your roosts were and how you had the boards under the nesting boxes and realized it made sense for your application.

    Your chicken coop came out fantastic! Your ideas on the built was so good. Love the double doors on an angle, that was great, plus using hardware cloth is so much smarter! Very, very nice! 👍👍👍👍
    We like all of your design. Have a blessed day!

    Amazing Job. My coop has a sand floor also, and it works great for me. I rigged a broken pitch fork with some hardware cloth and use it like a Giant kitty litter scoop. I think it is easy to clean and dump into the compost. Love the pop door, that was genius. The pickets on your metal walls really look cool and repurposing or reusing what you have is always a winning idea. But think my absolute favorite part was Ashley’s hiccups :). Great Job you two, you always do fantastic work together.

    Favorite thing would be the dual doors. Clever design, since you changed the placement of the dividing wall. Really liked the whole project; notched joinery, great use of recycled materials, individual sliding doors, wide roosting bars, community nesting boxes. I have long considered that a coop within a barn would provide better protection for the birds, and now you've gone and built it. Thanks for showing me what that would look like! Great skills and imagination!

    Nice carpentry skills! Will you have chicken runs attached to each section? I would recommend hardware cloth along that bottom crack area to keep out snakes and other critters. The 2x4's are not ideal for roosting. The birds like to be able to wrap their feet around the roost. If you ripped them in half and made a 1x2 it would be lovely. Remember 1 nesting box to 3 or 4 hens although even at that spacing they will mostly lay in the same boxes. I love the mulitple rooms. It will be ideal for broody mamas or baby chicks to get to know the big birds while being safe at the same time. Also having the option of keeping meat birds separate from the egg flock is handy as well.

    Change the roost from flat to on edge think of how u would like to feel a 2x4 in your hand and they do not have to be all tat high. Put dividers in your nests and a rail out in front of them about 3 to 4 in made of a a 2 or 3 in piece board or something for them to walk o we used to raise 100 s of laying hens should also keep the manure user the roost protected from the ckickens for sanitation

    Lovely! ❤️. Best features: 1. That the Hen House is in the barn. 2. Designed for people to easily observe and manage flock up close with people doors. 3. Sliding open hen doors! Sweet. Suggestions. Adding a washable solid floor. Was the best decision I ever made for ensuring that dust didn’t hinder the health and development of chicks. Adding a removable roost tray. Using pine shavings instead of straw makes cleaning easy and effectively absorbs water, poop and broken eggs. And skylight panels on the top to control dust and button up for winter. Happy Hens! 🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐓❤️🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚

    Do you guys have snakes up there? I noticed quite a bit of light around the base on the outside wall and then the wire was the larger rectangle type instead of the smaller chicken wire I've seen before. Are snakes a concern to be able to get through those openings at the bottom and/or the wire? Or do you have plans/ways for snake proofing it?
    As for best feature, definitely the doors. Your creativeness and ability to change on the fly is amazing and those turned out great.

    May I make a suggestion on your coop? If chickens just "disappear" (no blood, no feathers around, etc) then you need to place Hardware cloth in the lower 2 feet of the coop. You have a weasel or snake getting though (or a raccoon reaching through), and getting your chickens. Best wishes.
