  • With a 90 grand investment in the 2024 RAM 3500 HD 6.7 Cummins Diesel Laramie, you'd expect a better return or at leat no issues for a moment, Right? Well after about 690 miles, climbed under it to look at things and found a problem, yes, less than 1k and a problem already. Honestly, I've owned over 20 RAM trucks some with low mileage and some with 297k and zero issues. Well we'll monitor this and see after we work the truck hard this weekend.
If I'm being 100%, I miss the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD I had. Worked that truck hard all summer, zero issues, zero drips, and was a fun truck to drive at a fraction of the costs.

My 23 3500 did the same thing. Started at 2300 miles. Dealer replaced under warranty. I noticed the drips on my garage floor like you. Mechanic said he's done several of them. The problem is in the seal design with a faulty retention spring not keeping the seal tight against the yoke.

Right on, after they replaced it, did it stop the leak for good?

It’s probably the slip yoke. There’s a nick or burr on the shaft. Where it inserts into the t-case. It’s cut that rubber seal and is leaking.
I experienced this firsthand, when I had to have a transfer case replaced a few years ago. After I had the transfer case replaced, the slip yoke seal continuously dripped. I had the seal replaced multiple times, to no avail. So a friend of mine, who has a lift at his house, told me to bring the truck over. we pulled the driveshaft, pull the slip yoke out, and under inspection, we found a little gouge in the yolk. As if it had been dropped on a table or rolled onto a floor and was damaged. In my case, I was able to find a salvage slip yoke that was not marred, replaced it, with a new seal. And it was perfectly fine for many thousand miles after that.
The slip yoke itself is probably damaged in some manner. And the dealership will continuously replace the seal and not inspect the yoke. It’s been my experience anyway. Hope this helps.

If this is happening on multiple trucks, I’d say it’s very feasible, that it’s a manufacturing defect on the yoke. Probably in the machining process most likely.

I do the same thing I randomly go under my trucks and check everything out. I bought a 2024 GMC 2500 Ultimate back in May. After about 1100 miles I finally went under it (it had already had other issues) and I saw hmm oil on the exterior of the pan interesting, so I checked some more come to find out massive oil leak from the oil cooler adapter and those wax frames man bumping into it sucked. This was my first GM truck I've always had Rams, my GMC had a multitude of issues they found and ended up buying it back so I went back and bought another a 2024 Ram 3500. I'll have to check my Ram when I get home and take a look but from ym others I've never had an issue like this, so i'm interested to take a look

I had a front pinion seal leak in pretty much that same location on my 2013 Ram 2500 diesel. Had it fixed under warranty, then exactly a year later had it leak again. They repaired it again. Almost a year later, same issue, so they finally replaced the yoke and the seal. I told them that the issue had to be more than just what the kept fixing for those first couple of times. It has been about 5 years since the last repair, and no issues since.

This time use a seal sleeve, seals are to large or the area between the lip and the rest of the seal wasn't packed lightly with grease and seal just ran dry.

My truck has 177 kilometers...yes, 109 miles on it. I parked it the first night i owned it with the battery light on and voltage reading 11.3 volts on offroad page. Next morning, same issue, drove it and improved to 11.8 volts. Parked it and then off to dealership. Spiked to 13.6 volts with a 'Service electronic control module' dealer took it in and discovered the Alternator was screwed. They have overnighted one and is currently being installed. Its not a dealer issue, its a manufacturere issue. Frustrsting but the dealership is trying to make it right.

Ram is known for factory overfill in their transfer cases, check fluid level before towing!!

That's not right. I'm under my 21 F350 dually once a week. It's what I do. A chronic tinkerer. I would have that back to the dealer immediately.

@@automotiveinquiries9673 I wiped it clean to verify if it was a leak or residual from manufacturing. The leak came back after a few days so I took it in. Pretty simple and straight forward repair.

Is your truck comes with the Aisin transmission? I have a 2023 3500 dually with the Aisin and I'm trying to take precaution if in fact your truck is the high output diesel. Thanks in advance.

@@j.l.salayao8055 Yes, mine has the Aisin. I always inspect the underside anytime I purchase a new vehicle and while I’m under there changing fluids.

@j.l.salayao8055 mine is the standard output with 68rfe. If you didn't get the PTO option on your Aisin, the transfer case should be the same...that's where mine is leaking from.

I just got the 2024 ram 3500 crew cab duly . And when i first crank it in the mornings when i back out of the drive the transmission feels like its slipping then catches and moves . Then i shift in to foward and it slips again as i try and pull foward. I have just over 1200 miles on it brand new . But only does that on the first attempt to back out and go forward. But i dont think that its supposed to do that . Goung to bring it back to the daeler next week. Have anyone else had this happen

Been under my 2024 GMC Sierra like several times since I got it a month ago just to see whatzgoinzOn and haven’t seen anything drip..seep….or drain out of any areas so far. I’m like you, I hate leakage…..shouldn’t happen on a new truck at all. Fit and finish on these GM trucks are outstanding.

Things definitely happen. They are man made and also designed to fail. So it’s bound to happen. I understand the frustration though.
Definitely 100% correct on not using a pressure washer on a GM frame. I don’t have a real problem with them insisting on using the wax but for the simple reason of being able to spray it off good I wish they would just go to an e coat like Ford and Ram.

Just sold our 23 2500 Cummins. We loved it but, it started to have multiple problems with less than 12k miles on it. In the first 5k miles, it had a DPF replaced, PM sensor, and the steering control module. In the latter 7k miles, it developed a rough idle especially when cold at high idle. Also, the brake pedal squeaked like a door in a haunted house. Then it started regenerating every 300 miles regardless of filter status. I saw what was coming… selling our fifth wheel soon so we won’t need a diesel or, even a 3/4 ton truck. Bought a 10 year old Tundra with a 5.7 last week and couldn’t be happier.

I'd suggest taking it to the dealer as soon as you could and request them give you a new battery. They are covered under the new vehicle warranty. They shouldn't lose charge or over heat. There may be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed which they should be able to check for. There may a parasitic draw on the battery causing it to overheat and be dead.
