I live in USA, Georgia, and i ride year 'round. Our winters are more wet, than cold, at least, to me. We do have the threat of black ice if it rains and is super cold. I wear heated gloves and wear base layers with snowboard pants over my jeans, and im good. I ride a naked 2001 Softail Deuce, so, no fairing or windshield. It's doable. Not optimum conditions, high 30s/40s, at 80-85 mph can be uncomfortable. But, i would rather ride my bike than drive the car.
I'm in the UK and it's fkn MISERABLE mate. It's rained almost every single day of April so far. Last summer it rained for 3 months straight over June July August. This winter has been crap, super cold, icy, all the roads are fked now with potholes as well so the roads are full of gravel.
I live in Ohio US. Winter riding is hit or miss with the weather. I personally don't ride below 5C. I have a Meteor 350 and use those handlebar mittens. They do work if you don't mind remembering the switches. Today is a rainy day and I just stick to the car. It does snow in April and can into early May. 1987 there was almost a meter around now. And the next week it can be in the 30Cs.😎
Living in South Australia there is no such thing as a "riding season" as we never get cold enough to have to worry about it unlike people do in some parts of NSW, VIC, or Tas. We may miss a day or two every now and then because it's to hot , over 40c, or to wet but that's about it.
I live in MIchigan. We get five months a year. The rest of the year it sits in the garage collecting dust. If I lived in the south western US or somewhere like Straya sure I'd probably ride 80% of the time.
Where I live theres usually -30C and a meter or two of snow in the winter, so riding isnt really for me. There are people who do it, I just dont think its a good experience. Anyway, ive come to appreciate the seasons. Just noticing that im super excited at the start of the season, but at the end of it im nowhere near as enthusiastic. I think it overall makes me appreciate riding more than if I had access to it all year. Also, since I cant ride in the winter I usually spend that time doing work on them, which is a hobby in itself imo. Knowing that when spring comes, they are in pristine condition is also a good thing imo. Idk its a matter of perspective I guess?
what's a "riding season"? I'm in England and the only thing that stops me riding is ice on the road. Thankfully I've yet to encounter that on my motorbike.
heated gloves are a gamer changer in the wet and cold
Shits expensive tho
