As Slovak, I appreciate the effort and detail that went into this video. More attention could be put towards correct pronunciation, because if a foreigner will ask about any of these places or foods, locals will have no idea what they are talking about. It all sounds like a computer generated VoiceOver. Also, the UFO on the bridge is also a high class restaurant that slowly spins around offering panoramic view of Bratislava.

At that time, when your grandparents were born, Czechoslovakia did not exist yet and no one had any idea of its future existence. It was the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
@@jackblack8748yes, maybe it didn't exist as an independent country because people were under occupation, but the distinct identity, the language, the habits, folk clothes and folk songs existed. People didn't consider themselves to be Hungarian or Austrian, they didn't speak German or Hungarian unless they were forced to, they preferred our recipes to Hungarian ones etc. etc.
don't know about you, but I find having a tradition about harassing women pretty crazy, and if you are traditional woman in Slovakia and you enjoy it, it's fine, whatever floats your boat, but if you're not, I imagine being held by two dudes while two other dudes whip you with braided branches and another one is throwing a bucket of cold water on you (as demonstrated in the video) year after year, really annoying and degrading and let's not forget it's Easter, most of the time it's not warm enough to be wet outside and also in that day it won't happen once, it's done from morning to noon and every dude you know is gonna do it and they are supposed to be rewarded when they do so, like again that sounds pretty fuckin crazy to me.
@@nopenope1608 this tradition is always portrayed so horribly in all these videos, where I live people are usually decent human beings and usually just use a little sprinkles of water or some perfume instead of buckets of water also whipping was usually done softly just for the tradition to wish the girl health and beauty but ofc drunk fks and people that think they can use this tradition to satisfy their violent nature and low ego and not be "responsible" bc "It Is JuSt A tRaDiTiOn" are pretty much ruining it and making a bad name for it (also on monday it was the boys doing this and on tuesday it was the girls but it might be only in the part where I live)

The best on Slovakia is that You can eat there the poppy seeds with "sulance" or a poppy seed cake. Poppy seed is the stuff from which the opium is made and is forbidden in most countries in the world, but in Slovakia You can buy it in grocery stores.
Immature poppy seed is from which the opium as you know it as drugs is made. Mature poppy seed can be normally eaten cause it doesn´t contain any hallucinogenic substance and is safe even if you would eat a lot of it. That´s why it can be used in food industry. But I know it´s not so common in the west countries or in Asia where people mostly know only the opium related to immature poppy seeds.
Thank you for your outside view and promotion of Slovakia. It was very interesting :). Please don't mind notes regarding slovak pronunciation. I know its tough for foreigners and you handled it well.
Right told, pronunciation is quite dire for outsiders, but there was lot of mistakes in whole video, while it seems like promotion of only west part, if he would promote Slovakia as it is this video would have more than hour.

To the speaker: Please, before speaking about Slovakia, inform yourself about correct slovak pronunciation! Otherwise listening to you, how you spoil slovak words, is horrible. Do not ignore 13:28 letters č, š, ž, ť, ď, ň, the small sign above is not an ornament, but a softener, making them a soft variant of the given letter. C is never K in slovak, but as ts in English. J is never dž or ž but always J as in German or Scandinavian languages, like Y in Youth. And CH is not š, but it is pronounced like kh in English.

49. bizarre thing you forgot is that there are a lot of Hungarians living within 50 km of the border and bilingual communication is everywhere.Slovakia is beautiful✌️
Such minorities are in every country close to borders. It is not special to Slovakia, and it would just trigger some Slovaks, as Hungarian did a lot of harm to Slovak ancestors. So why poke an almost healed wound. Because you are Hungarian? My great-grandfather was tortured by Hungarians, even had to change his Slovak surname to a Hungarian one to be able to keep his job... and earn money for his family. Also this bilingual minority canNOT speak nor correct Slovak neither correct Hungarian language. They speak a local language mixture. I have friends from the area, and they told me that. Even my boss had to speak English to Hungarian business partners, because they could not understand his "Hungarian" language. So they are not really fully bilingual. Which is sad and lost opportunity. They cannot work in Slovak language as they don't speak or write it well enough, as their parents never pressed them to learn the correct version. Nor the correct version of Hungarian language. Again, this is what my friends told me. I blame the parents. Yeah, you are right. It is bizzare that you mention it... You apparently have no respect or love to Slovaks to do that.
Modrý kostolik - Blue church in Bratislava is nice - but you missed a few meters away from it - most important church in Bratislava - Dóm svätého Martina - St. Martin's Cathedral. An amazing Gothic cathedral, in which the Austrian monarchs, including Maria Theresa, were crowned for more than a century, and the Klariska temple. The beautiful church of St. Elizabeth in Košice and, among other things, the wooden altar of Master Paul from Levoča, which is located nearby, are definitely worth mentioning. These monuments, like many others, for example, unique wooden churches in eastern Slovakia, are included in the UNESCO list. In short - you missed a lot... Next time you need to spend more time in Slovakia and consult with the locals...
Bratislava was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary and its kings and royal wives were crowned here. It was at the time when Buda was occupied by the Ottoman Empire, i.e. the Turks.
Love Kofola, Tatra tea, Mountains and more other stuff. There's a town called Trnava with many churches, so that's why we call it Little Rome. Of course, there is the breathtaking Slovak nature all around.
Thank you for the video👌🤗❤️! Slovakia is a beautiful country, I have visited it as a tourist many times abd I love it there. But sorry, Slivovice is produced in Vizovice, Czech Republic. Also Kofola was invented by Dr. Blazek in Opava in 1958 and is produced now in Krnov. Both are cities in Czech Rep.. As Czechia and Slovakia were one country for a long period, it's often difficult to tell the origin of various products😊. The same is with many other products from Central Europe...are they of German, Austrian or Czech origin? Borders are changing, people and traditional products stay😉.

Actually, the original Kofola is a Czech product. It was invented by a brilliant engineer, I think from Galena - which was primarily a pharmaceutical company. They were looking for a way to use the soot from roasting coffee, which contained a high amount of caffeine. The original kofola tastes fantastic - better than cola... We used to enjoy it during summers of the seventies and eighties and we had regrets because we thought that if it tasted so fantastic it must be full of sugar and unhealthy... In fact, it is a drink with caffeine, a third of which is fresh cherry juice, and instead of white sugar, it contains molasses... So enjoy when you have the opportunity..

don't know about you, but I find having a tradition about harassing women pretty crazy, and if you are traditional woman in Slovakia and you enjoy it, it's fine, whatever floats your boat, but if you're not, I imagine being held by two dudes while two other dudes whip you with braided branches and another one is throwing a bucket of cold water on you (as demonstrated in the video) year after year, really annoying and degrading and let's not forget it's Easter, most of the time it's not warm enough to be wet outside and also in that day it won't happen once, it's done from morning to noon and every dude you know is gonna do it and they are supposed to be rewarded when they do so, like again that sounds pretty fuckin crazy to me.

Imagine someone finally cares about your country, this time ''not thanks'' to corruption and being couple of tens years behind modern civilization ( I am not talking about houses and how it looks here but about law, rules and mentality here). 49. bizarre thing you forgot is that there are a lot of Hungarians living within 50 km of the border and bilingual communication is everywhere.Slovakia is beautiful✌️

Applause to Slovakia, the another country in EU that still has its own identity and its own brain and perspective (second being Hungary). Great country.
The “craziest” thing about this video is the mispronunciation and butchering of the language 😅
The woman of my heart was from Western Slovakia, Holic. I love the melodic language, the longs stories, the polite and mild manners of the people I've met there. I hope the new generation is the same.
Lots of sympathy from Romania too!
my biggest love, my homeland, my heritage, my identity. Our Slovakia❤
Milujem Slovensko je prekrásne a má veľa Hrádov
Milujem Slovensko
I’d love to visit 🇨🇦
Unbelievable facts about Slovakia number:
49: There are 180 castles and over 400 of smth like small personal castles called Kaštieľ
50: in a village named Jablonec there is an organ (musical instrument used in churches) that still uses the original way of pumping air in through big bags and that organ is one of two in the europe that are still fully functional and are used daily
51: there is that one cave called Ochtinská Aragonitová and its one of the only THREE IN THE WHOLE WORLD aragonit caves that are accesable by public. The other two are in Mexico and Argentina.
52: as someone stated in the comments there are the oldest opal mines in the world but are nit accesible by public however people still enters them for urbex.
53: the bighest Opal in the world was mined in those opal mines. Sadly its not to see in Slovakia but in Austria.

Kapustnica - thick cabbage soup with bacon or sausage and mushrooms - and other ingredients - for example dried prunes - recipes differ in different regions... Cabbage soup is traditionally served on the first Christmas holiday, December 25, on St. Stephen's Day, therefore it is called Štefánska kapustnica served with sour cream and fresh bread. must be tasted. BUT the national dish is Bryndzové halušky Bryndz dumplings. Bryndz dumplings were mainly the food of sheep herders. they are gnocchi made from potato dough with fried onions and bacon and with bryndza. Bryndza - Liptauer cheese is a traditional product. It is a soft sheep's cheese with a protected origin, like Parmesan, Roquefort or Emmental, similar to cottage cheese... Bryndza may only be produced in Slovakia and was patented during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy... Unpasteurized - "summer bryndza" is probiotic atomic bomb. Despite the fat content of 56 percent, you will lose weight with its regular consumption. It tastes great with fresh milk.
Kapustnica is served on Christmas Eve dinner which is the most important meal of Slovak Christmas connected with special customs and traditions
@@MikytovaRenata Kapustnica sa podáva na svätého Štefana - tam odkiaľ som ja je to vždy na Štefana 26.12. Hlavým štedrovečerným jedlom na Slovensku je od nepamäti ryba. Predtým nesmú chýbať vianočné oblátky s orechmi a medom a jablko...
Awesome ❤
People from Slovakia are Slovaks not Slovakian. There's no such word Slovakian. Slovak people, Slovak mountains, Slovak castles etc.
You are wrong! Slovak is a noun whereas Slovakian is an adjective noun. It is a very common word used in English language. I hope they don't teach what you propose in school in Slovakia... I have never heard in any English speaking countries anyone say he is a Slovak instead he is Slovakian...
You are both mistaken. In English, a person from Slovakia is a Slovak, or is of Slovakian origin. It's a function of usage.
@@anthonykaiser974 I know that but Nobody has ever said are you Slovak?? 99.99% of people use the word Slovakian. That's just reality.
thanks for making video on country where i am from! si super! :D
