@@EuropeInDetail At 0:25 you read first "A" in Zakopane correctly but then you misread the second "A" and then you forgot to read "E". Why? Vowel letters in Polish always have the same phonetic value regardless of positon in a word (except nasalisation which might be lighter to non-existent in word endings) and there is no silent vowel. "W" in Polish words is always read like "V" in English. (“Weekend” is NOT Polish word and we read it almost like in English). “CZ” is similar (though not identical) to English “CH” in “church”, but “CH” is like Scottish “ch” in “loch”. “C” followed by "i” is very palatalized. In all other cases "c” is read like combined "t+s”, never "K". If you master how to read Polish letters and digraphs, your Polish pronunciation would be good enough, as Polish writing system is very phonetic. Only mastering of consonant devoicing and voicing could be tricky but anyone would understand your speech without them anyway.

As an American, I admire Poland and the Polish . Those people did a great deal to save all of Europe from Islamic Conquest. they fought off the Ottoman Empire's powerful forces, with help from the Holy League, their Euro allies, about 450 years ago. That was nothing but heroic and God was with them. They had cavalry units called the " Winged Hussars" who actually wore feathered wings on horseback while fighting. Cool vids and feature films about that on youtube and amazon too.

That's why Poles are happy if someone says anything in polish. There is nothing to be ashamed of If you can't. You can speak English with ease. A lot of people in Poland speak English. • @saintsone7877
      @saintsone7877 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@tonyherdina9142 The Polish/Lithuanian Commonwealth(once the largest country in all of Europe) was partitioned(invaded and occupied) by the Prussian, Russian and Austro-Hungarian Empires in the years 1792 - 1795 until the end of WW1 in 1918. The Prussians(later to form Germany in the 1870's) and the Russians embarked on a strategy of Germanification and Russification by moving people out of Poland/Lithuanian Commonwealth (mainly done by Russia). In the areas they controlled usage of Polish Language was frowned upon, schools had to teach Prussian and Russian only, Polish books were banned, music etc was also banned yet people maintained the language and culture and when freed in 1918 Poland arose again. Everything East of Poland remained heavily influenced by Russia and some could say, ideologically at least, totally Russified as Russia sent lots of local people to Russia and replaced them with Russians. But that is another story history buffs should acquaint themselves with to understand the geopolitics of Central and Eastern Europe and why Russia believes so many countries even today are really Russian(such as Ukraine). Many people in the West sadly know very little of the history of Central and eastern Europe as the iron curtain Russia built several years after ww2 turned Europe into East/West whilst most Central/Eastern European countries that were linked with Russia did not have much choice about their ties with Russia as they were governed mainly by puppet governments until the collapse of the USSR in 1989-1993.

@@teek.1059 Correct form is German concentration camps. Many people don't know that the Nazis were Germans. The term is intentionally used interchangeably to forget about German crimes and to whitewash the nation, which is why the 'Nazi alien' was invented. Meanwhile, Germany still hasn't paid reparations to Poland. Every other country received compensation except Poland, the nation most wronged in this war, practically leveled to the ground, received nothing. Everything had to be rebuilt from scratch with our own labor and money, and on top of that, the Russians from the other side... Germany built its economic power on the plundered Poland. To this day, they still hold Polish works of art, not to mention the gold. Poland has been constantly invaded by various powers and had to start over repeatedly. And now, Poles are being portrayed as oppressors and thieves. There is no justice in this world.

It was very nice to watch and pleasant to listen to. Personally, next to the name of Nicolaus Copernicus, who was mentioned, for which, as a Pole, I would like to thank you in advance, I would add one more significant name and there would probably be more: Stefan Banach. One of the greatest mathematicians of the last century. Luminaries of world science like W.G. Mathews and D.O. Hirsch wrote almost 20 years ago that "mathematics is the science to which Polish scientists have contributed the most in the present century." There are many anecdotes associated with Stefan Banach. Let me quote one of them: In the 1920s, John von Neumann, the creator of the world's first electronic computer and the creator of the famous game theory, came to Lviv three times, trying to convince Banach to go overseas. During his last visit in 1937, von Neuman showed Banach a check on which he had written a one and offered to add as many zeros as he wanted if Banach agreed to emigrate. The mathematician laconically stated "this sum is too small to leave Poland ... too small"; It is also worth adding that Banach was the creator and architect of the so-called Lviv school of mathematics, which included the Polish-American mathematician, co-creator of the American thermonuclear bomb - Stanisław Ulam. In addition, at the Technological Museum in Chicago, Banach's name was placed next to Copernicus among the greatest mathematicians of all time. To sum up: I liked it.

Fun fact - the Błędowska Desert was originally a vast concentration of medieval iron forges. The constant heat and disposal of slag into the surrounding grounds eroded the earth to the point of irreversible desertification. Quite a feat given our climate. These days, the desert is split into two parts - one is closed off to civilians, as it is used by our military (mostly stress testing of heavy equipment and desert simulations), and the second one is mostly frequented by dirt bikers, atv riders and offroaders ;)

both the largest monuments of Jesus Christ are the merit of Poles. More or less . Paul Maximilien Landowski (1 June 1875 - 31 March 1961) was a French monument sculptor of Polish descent. His best-known work is Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Landowski was born in Paris, France, of a Polish refugee father of the January Uprising, and a French mother Julie Vieuxtemps, daughter of Henri Vieuxtemps.

Fat Thursday is a polish tradition and donuts originates from Poland. The creator of donuts went to the US and popularized them there. Thats the origin of Fat Thursday and donuts in general.

It's not true, fat Thursday is in Greece too, the call it tsikno pempti, which means fat Thursday, they eat then a lot of meat

I'm guessing it's a universal Christian tradition, because it relates to the Lenten season that follows Fat Thursday shortly after.

‘Mardi Gras’ in French. Hence the name of the carnival. Pretty sure it’s a Christian tradition linked to fasting over Easter.

Auschwitz Birkenau is a German extermination camp located on Polish territory
the oldest salt mine in poland is located in bochnia, not in wieliczka. By the way, Bochnia is a city older than Krakow, not to mention Wieliczka. Wieliczka is popular only because of its proximity to Krakow.
Kiełbasa is the general name for all types of sausage.
    Greetings from Poland

In the famous people group, I would definitely include the famous composer Fryderyk Chopin. Many people think he is French, but he was born in Poland in Zelazowa Wola near Warsaw. He only had a French father, but his mother was Polish. Also his music includes lots of influences from the Polish culture and folklore.

Hi, I live in Poland since birth. Please don't talk about Auschwitz like it's a Polish camp. It's a camp in Poland but built by nazis and we don't take responsibility for the horrors that happened there. Thanks.
PS. I love your pronounciation, it's always so funny when a foreigner attempts Polish ☺️

In my opinion an interesting fact, 1000 years ago Poland was not in 30% forest but 90-96%. So you could enter to one side and walk from left to right in straight line for over 400km and still be in forest.

2:07 kiełbasa = sausage (not just one of its types).
In Poland there are several hundreds of regional types of kiełbasa/sausage.
So does the bread - Poland is the land of kiełbasa and bread (not to mention pierogi, pączki and cakes) - of hundreds kinds of them.

Strange, but my first time I ever ate pierogi was in Vietnam during the Vietnam War at the Advisor Team in Tam Ky, Vietnam! Our Army SSgt cook was a ethnic Pole, who looked horrible in uniform, but was a great cook, especially when cooking ethnic Polish foods in an Army mess hall!
