No parking sensors on the top trim Mazda hybrid, no 360 camera, tiny little rear only camera, no heated steering wheel??? Great review, bummed the Mazda hybrid left so many things out.
Glad I found these videos! I was calling some dealerships last week asking if there are any to come look/test drive, no one had any yet. Long story short Iv been trying to get a new car since the start of 2023. I was going to get a Mazda 3 hatch tubro, but I saw the CX-50 and I drove the turbo and it was on par with my current car. I was looking at other options in between but here I am back at the CX-50. I decided to wait because I heard of the hybrid. Im not so sure about the hybrid, I might just get slightly used CX-50 Turbo. I wanted the hybrid thinking it would be the same trim packages as the standard CX-50s just more fuel efficient which is a plus. But in my head, if I am going to pay $35k+ for a vehicle (in the upper trims) It should have certain features. Im either going to wait some more in hopes of Mazda adding/upgrading the hybrid after a year or so (slight update) OR I will go out and just purchase a Toyota Hybrid of sorts (for the hybrid) or Ill get a CX-50 Turbo.
This was super helpful! I drove the non-hybrid, non-turbo premium plus yesterday and said that I wanted to try the hybrid. Dealer said one may be in this afternoon. The tech is very important to me, and the 360 camera is a must-have. Thanks for helping me narrow down my choices.
Watched your initial video and the one thing that stood out, and is also missing compared to the CX50 Turbo Premium Plus is the heated back seats. So many misses on this hybrid when I was pumped for the release. Was holding out for the hybrid but going Turbo at this point.
That steering wheel button is called Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) in 2024 CX-50's and Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS) in 2025 models. Its on Turbo Premium and Premium Plus. TJA only works up to 40 mph and CTS works up to 90 mph.
I actually like this car for a number of reasons. Non car factors: rav4 hybrids are still on long wait times, it’s impossible to negotiate the price on a rav4 hybrids whereas Mazda usually discounts vehicles over time, and Mazda usually offers better financing offers than Toyota does. Car factors: the interior on this car is nicer than the rav, I’m assuming it drives like a Mazda so driving dynamics should be better, and it shares the same drivetrain as the rav so reliability should be equal.
I reckon Mazda will lose a lot of sales by not including 360, parking sensors, etc.. It's a shame because the engine is so reliable with a beautiful Mazda style. Yet I can't justify the price while missing all these features I already use in my own vehicle, can't go backwards!
There is 3 CX50 hybrid trims in Canada. The top one is called GT. Looking at specs and features from Mazda Canada's website, front and rear parking sensors are included with that trim.
I'm just gonna be honest, the less features on a car, the better. I had to lemon law and get the dealer to buy back the last two cars we had because of constant issues with dumb features one just doesn't need. I kid you not, we were having a issue with our second to last car where the power seat was causing the car not to start (what the dealer said) and they couldn't get a new one. I'm sure most people want all the gadgets but i just want the most simple car you can get and honestly this is why i'm kinda liking this CX-50 Hybrid, i don't need lines in the back up camera, i don't need sensors beeping at me, heated seats and steering wheel, IDK i'm just a simple person wanting a modern simple car, i just want good fuel economy, reliability and just go. I like what i see from this vid and will be checking out one of these soon as i get all the paper work done with the last car we had. Good on you Mazda for keeping it simple, whether that pays in the long run, IDK.
I have a deposit on a Rav4 XSE hybrid with some added options. With some port installed options that I'm forced to pay for the price is $44,672. Of course the out the door price will be above $51,000. I'm not sure I really want to pay so much for an SUV, so I'll consider the CX-50 hybrid. What the Rav4 XSE hybrid has over the CX-50 hybrid is...slightly better mpg, panoramic 360 monitor, digital rear view mirror, larger cargo space, 12.3" digital gauge cluster (provides a ton of information). Also the 10.5" display has a more square form factor which I like better than the rectangular one on the Mazda. Both hybrids have benefits and drawback. I have much to think about.
All of the features you mentioned are available in the higher trim levels, I’m looking at the premium plus, so non of these are deal breakers. Appreciate taking the time to review this.
You are correct! Here in Canada we only get 3 trims but the 360 camera and parking assist are on the highest level, whereas heated steering comes standard all trims. I find the differences bizarre but imagine it is decisions made by Mazda Canada vs Mazda USA
I find it odd as well! Just like how a few years ago (I believe the last gen as well as current) Honda Canada gave their CR-V’s a pano sunroof as well as a heated steering wheel whereas Honda USA did not???? So weird especially how “similar” we are haha!
Canadian version of the CX-50 Hybrid GT has surround view 360 camera, heating steering and front & rear parking sensors. Idk why the american version got so much of it taken out...
I was interested until I heard that there’s not even rear parking sensors or a 360 camera available. On a 2025 car those should be included on any higher trim level model. What the heck are they thinking here?
I thought the same. If they care so much to include all these features only for the Canadians, I will pass and let them have it all :) I was considering a CX-50 and I was waiting for the hybrid but I'm disappointed. If I wanted a Toyota engine I would buy a Toyota.
Synthetic leather is easy to maintain and clean if you have children. Could you imagine dirty cheetos, chocolate, and juice stains on cloth seats from the little rugrats? It's a disgusting site.
@Mrmajellan123 Seat covers are not going to stop any liquids from soiling through the seats. And besides, it takes away the look of the car. Just get synthetic leather. Get a windshield sun protector and tint the windows to reduce heat for those who live in warmer climates.
Living in Tampa, Florida, I have never had any issue with the leather seats in my cars due to the heat! I rarely used the ventilated seats in my Lexus RX 350 that I used to have or in my CX 50! The top trim, non-aspirated CX 50 and now the hybrid do not have quite as many features as the top trim level in the turbo. I was hoping they would add a few more things in the 2025 models for the premium plus trim
@@fr3ddy1461 the RDX and the RX 350 are a little larger. The CX 50 is considered a compact SUV. But I was looking to go a little bit smaller. The length of the CX 50 is a little longer for a compact SUV and you don’t get extra space because of it, but it is a little bit more roomier than the CX5. I got the premium plus trim so I have the 20 inch wheels which, although I love the look out of them, they probably contribute to a little bit more rougher ride and more road noise. Mine is a 2023, so the steering may be a little heavier than the updated 2024’s. I was hoping that for 2025 that Mazda would add a few of those missing amenities that are on the premium plus trim on the current non-turbo CX 50. I think the only upgrade that the premium plus trim has on the non-turbo premium plus trim over mine is the wireless charging. But, hey, at least you get rain sensing wipers on almost every trim but possibly the base trim on all of the Mazdas. Everyone else makes you get the top trim to get rain sensing wipers!😎
I agree with the comment that Mazda has too many trim levels. The packaging needs to be cleaned up and it needs to be consistent. I have some of the same gripes with how the CX 90 is packaged. I have a PHEV CX 90, premium plus, which is supposed to be the *top* trim, yet it’s missing features that the in-line turbo or even a CX 30 has.
Thank you so much for bring up the sensors and 360 camera that I mentioned in your last video of the cx50 hybrid!!! You’re legit my most favorite journalist on yt and it makes me so happy that you mentioned it! Stay awesome!! 😁
Not everything is better in Canada. The 2024 PP CX5 trim in the USA got 360 and parking sensors. Here in Canada I had to buy a top trim CX5 signature to get that feature. OTOH, the CX50 mid grade GT (similar to PP) in Canada does get the 360 without having to get the top turbo trim. All except maybe base models of all Mazdas in Canada get heated steering. But only on the left and right quarters of the steering wheel. Which is fine for highway driving, but in the city, in the winter, while your car is still arctic cold inside, you have to make plenty of turns as you drive through the city. So you have to regularly touch the cold parts of the steering wheel as you turn the wheel around corners. Ironically once you get to the highway, and can finally leave your hands on the heated parts of the wheel, you longer need the heated steering as the car has then warmed up. 😂
Thanks for the review! You called out a couple of things that don't exist that I'd have wanted/expected so I'll just wait another year or two and hope NA gets some of the Canadian features 🤷🏽♀️
Mazda gives the top naturally-aspirated and turbo trims the same Premium Plus name, but if you want things like parking sensors, heated steering wheel, 360 view monitor, the NA (or hybrid) model isn't really premium or plus. You're forced into the turbo or else into another brand. Of course you can get all these things in Canada without a turbo, and for thousands less at today's exchange rate. Pretty frustrating for US buyers.
Kurt, do we know if the CX-50 hybrid has the *full* functionality of the Toyota climate control system? Specifically: the ability to automatically turn the engine on/off for heat and the AC (powered by the battery) for cooling to maintain a selected temperature, while the car is in "on" or "ready" mode without the engine running? This is huge for folks who car camp in Toyota Priuses, hybrid RAV-4s, Siennas, etc.
I'm looking forward to your driving impressions, especially the front seat comfort. Other reviewers have mentioned that they found the seats on the firm/hard side.
I mean I don't want for backup sensors in my mazda3. In this day and age it seems unnecessary unless a vehicle is massive with huge blind spots. Rear view camera, cross traffic alerts, and auto tilting side view mirrors (great feature) are a far more useful combination of features.
@@billetherington8849 I still have mine. Yes it does have a blind spot when the driver just turns their head driving around. But the blind spots in all of the scenarios that a backup alert would be used are eliminated between mirrors and all of the other standard safety features. It makes backup alerts redundant, the camera alone eliminates the majority of the need, and the cross traffic alerts are far more useful because they go outside of the field of vision.
One possible reason for the lack of cloth seats is that cloth is associated with cheaper brands like Honda and Toyota, not premium brands like Acura and Lexus, which Mazda is positioning themselves against
One of the reasons I’ve crossed Mazda off my list is how high up the trims you have to go to get parking sensors. I can get that in an XLE premium rav4 package. Crazy
I agree with these shortcomings. One big thing I really wanted to geek out on is in depth fuel efficiency. If its using the Toyota powertrain, it should have that data available to the user. You know what else is sorely missing here? The digital gauge cluster in the CX-70/90 isn't even on the top trim of the CX-50 Hybrid. If they added that to the top trim it would really look sharp and then you have all the screen real estate to show power train statistics (battery, regen, gas engine, etc...)
Thanks for your videos on the CX-50 Hybrid's features! I just picked up a 2024 CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus to replace a non-turbo 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring w/ Premium Package (now called Premium Plus). Mazda packages things strangely. With both the CX-5 and CX-50, you only get active trajectory lines for the back up camera on the very top trim, so only the Turbo Premium Plus gets it on CX-50 (and Signature on CX-5). It is a nice addition having them now as my CX-5 didn't, but I don't know why Mazda only reserves it for the top trim since it's just software and most competitors include it on all trim levels. The active trajectory lines also work in the forward and side views with the 360 camera that only comes on the Turbo Premium Plus. I'm not sure what to think of the 360 camera. It's so small that it's hard to see details other than big bright parking lines. The front camera is nice to have though and can be displayed as large as the backup camera. The CX-50 does get Traffic Jam Assist that is activated by that blank button on the steering wheel you pointed out, but again it's only on the Turbo Premium Plus and only works up to 35 mph. It supposedly works with the adaptive cruise control to control speed based on traffic conditions and also follow the lane or the vehicle ahead if it can't detect the lane for attended hands free driving in slow moving traffic. I haven't tried it yet. I thought about waiting for the hybrid, but I was disappointed to see what features couldn't be had on it, and I also wanted to take advantage of the lease-to-lease incentives they were offering me that likely wouldn't be made available on the hybrid before my CX-5's lease was up. Maybe they'll add features in following model years if the hybrid proves popular.
@@CarsandTechInfo I think you're right. I just looked at the specs for the 2025 CX-5. For 2024 and earlier, the 360 camera and front/rear parking sensors were exclusive to the Signature. But for 2025, the non-turbo Premium Plus, Carbon Turbo, and Turbo Premium now get those as well.
In Canada we get the 360 camera, heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and the lane centring (called Cruise and traffic support). Not sure why they don’t include these in the USA. If they didn’t have these in Canada I wouldn’t have ordered it.
Canadian GT version also has heated rear seats. I’m in Buffalo. Canadian dealers are not permitted to sell me a vehicle. I will not pay $42,000 for a vehicle that omits features that are available just over the border.
I went from wanting either a 2024 Honda Accord hybrid to the 2025 Toyota Camry hybrid, to this Mazda but idk what to even get at this point. It’s pretty sad how Mazda missed the mark but having a small suv that is AWD with Toyotas proven hybrid system we’re the reasons I wanted this Mazda vs the Toyota Camry. 😭
totally agree on the parking sensors. i have the 2023 n.a. premium plus and u are exactly correct u don’t get 360 or parking sensors unless u get the turbo pp. like wtf these car companies gatekeeping basic features that have been around for decades. my beater baby 2003 ford escape has parking sensors.. but my 2023 highest level trim without the turbo doesn’t ? i’m outraged and i don’t understand how we’ve gotten to this point w these stingy car companies. i’d take parking sensors over the stupid lane keeping assist that sucks butt.
I'm interested in a Mazda CX-50, so I subscribed your channel. FYI: On the Mazda's Trims & Specs page it specifies "Half leatherette-trimmed seats" on the Preferred model, so I believe the center section of the seats are cloth. Since Mazda released their build information for the hybrid, I've been comparing the features of the Rav4 at the same price point, like the Mazda includes heated seats and power liftgate. Do not want a sunroof... not with a bald head... I'll be interested on your driving feedback and MPG figures. It will be replacing my 2019 Ford Fusion.
I was just looking through the manuals for my newly acquired 2024 CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus. What's interesting and relevant to your video is the energy flow monitor that is shown in the Mazda Connect Owner's Manual. This manual is very general and covers Mazda's entire line for the 2024 model year. It specifically states that this monitor is available on models with the M-Hybrid Boost system. So the monitor exists, but maybe Mazda decided not to include it in the CX-50 Hybrid, or maybe you have a pre-production model that just doesn't have it yet. It would be strange if they didn't include it since Toyota's hybrid system already supports it and Mazda already has the display developed for other models.
After watching this video, I’m so glad I didn’t wait for this new CX-50 hybrid but instead just got a 2025 Tucson Hybrid Limited. The only missing features of the Tucson are power folding mirrors and a digital rear view mirror. The car is packed with every other feature you can imagine and has such a smooth, quiet ride (& no CVT drone!)
@@mikej238 , all the Toyota hybrids have eCVTs and almost every review I have seen about them mentions the drone they tend to make when the engine is stressed. Even the Lexus hybrids have this issue. I just traded in an almost new 23 Highlander with the Turbo 4 because of excessive wind and road noise. I was extremely disappointed in the Toyota so I’m rolling the dice and trying the Hyundai.
Adding all those extra features would potentially put this car in Lexus or Lincoln territory. Nowadays finding a spacious, reliable, fun-to-drive, stylish hybrid crossover that starts in the mid-$30's is a minor miracle. And if it means giving up some bells and whistles to keep the price down is a deal many inflation-weary Americans already locked out of most new cars would gladly take.
Thank you Kirk! Another underrated feature that is a big deal for me that is missing is the individual tire pressure display. I think think this feature is absent in almost all Mazdas. Its annoying especially if you have a slow leak and the light comes on, you then have to figure out which tire it is and waste more time.
It does have individual tire pressure display. it is buried so deep in the menu levels of counterintuitive selections. I have seen it a couple times, but getting there is so convoluted I still can’t remember how to on demand. Worse if I get in the car with my wife and both our phones, switching wireless CarPlay between the two requires diving down about 7 menu levels. Then another 20 second wait on average to actually switch. Twenty percent of the time this witch fails, connecting only Bluetooth, so you have to repeat the process. Mazda is a brand of polar opposites. Fantastic driving dynamics and ergonomics, but the worst electronics in the industry. Trim levels are illogical even in Canada. the GT, similar to PP trim in the USA gets more features on a lowly Mazda 3, than the same GT trim on CX5, 70, 90 models. Spend more, move up, and get less in the same trim. .
It shows individual tire pressures on the shitty little app on my mazda 3, but i have not delved deep enough into the infotainment settings to find it in the car itself cause if it's not one click away it's too deep
I love Mazdas and I'm in the third one, however I hate the huge and messy trim options and also the weird differences they make between Canadian and US market. For instance, when I had the CX5 I wanted something with the Kuro design appearance but fully loaded but no, you only can get the great red-ish interior in the middle trim level, but not in the highest. Now I have a fully loaded CX90 PHEV and even being the most expensive trim I can't get traffic assist and lance centering, a thing that was present in my CX5 even not being the top trim option. I also can't get touchscreen enabled because I'm in Canada, but US models have touchscreen.. Another difference between US and Canadian market... The top trim CX90 PHEV gets the simpler version of the tail lights( the bar in the trunk does not illuminate) but here in Canada they're lit.. We also can't get any top trim CX90 with 8 seats! WHYY MAzdaaa?
I doubt it. I think that they're just trying to keep the price a certain way, and with all of those extra features, it'll probably be a little more than they were hoping for
It can’t even be said to be rushed because as he says, a number of these features that are “missing” is available on the same trim in Canada. The bizarre thing being that both the hybrid and non hybrid CX-50s are made in the same factory for both US and Canada (the one in Alabama) So it’s not even that Mazda rushed the car into production, they just decided nah screw you for the US market. This applies to North America as a whole too, because for whatever reason there’s a been a couple models that they’ve had or currently have available elsewhere that just isn’t available in North America, despite the fact that those model’s segments are more popular in North American compared to the places where they’re actually available. It seems to me like Mazda’s market analyst for North America are either incompetent or being ignored, of which the latter is more likely as Mazda has a history of ignoring their North American Market specialists.
Yall complaining too much. It’s not a luxury car. No Audi or Mercedes or bmw. Tight budget trying to cut cost. It’s doesn’t have everything but it gives you everything you need to get to point A to point B as long as it has ac/back up camera and apple car play you’re good. Coming old cars you don’t need parking sensors or else you’re bad at driving period. I have a model 3 Peformance and a fully loaded ford f150 tremor and I don’t even use sensors.. use your back up and your side mirrors. The cx50 is a good economy has saver car.
Great comments Kirk. No turbos for me. That leaves the 2025 Murano off my list (my wife has a 2008 Murano with 160,000 miles. Love the design of that model. And the future CX-5 Hybrid will not be using the Toyota Hybrid system. Why? That keeps me from making a decision on that vehicle for an additional year or two. Humm...
By far the biggest feature missing is a right hand drive version for the Australian market. Aussies love their Mazdas (2nd best selling brand) and hybrids are super popular and are boat racing EVs and PHEVs - a CX50 or CX5 hybrid would destroy the competition.
I wish you could get the top trims without being forced into bigger wheels. Aside from the added cost, you lose fuel economy and feel more of the road due to less tire volume.
Such weird features to omit, hopefully they come in future model years. I would never consider dropping this much on a new car if it didn't have a 360 cam, and rear sensors at the very least, but both front and rear would be nice.
I see a lot of complaints there’s no 360 camera…the heck you need that for? If you can see, and turn your head/neck…what’s the point other than adding more to the MSRP?
Once you have the 360 cameras plus all the safety sensors you will not ever want to go back. These features help assist you in driving safely. I know of instances when backing up, running over bikes, even tapping pedestrians. Sensors help alert you of things you might not be aware of. IMHO
Thanks for the video. Question that nobody seems to mention: Toyota hybrids can do climate control when the car is off. They can run the AC or the heater and then turn the engine on briefly to recharge the hybrid battery if needed. Can the CX-50 Hybrid do this?
That's kind of the unfortunate lack of display customizations kinda sucks. They are good have but have simplification in mind and easy of use with higher quality materials. Like all the tech is pretty good and displays but I feel mazda limits soooo much so we as the consumer have to do the 5 tabs down to lower the dash brightness.
Kirk, I know that You didn't Want to be a Bearer of Bad News BUT Unfortunately I Need Cloth Seats for the Base Trim 😢 Summertime 😮. Guess I will wait for the Next New RAV4 Hybrid 🇺🇸🇨🇦. 2026😊
@Kirk Kreifels: Nice ride but $42k for top trim and no heated steering wheel... I'm out. And why force a moonroof on me at mid-level trim? I agree on the 19 inch wheels, no bueno! I guess I have to get a Honda CR-V, did not want to have to do that.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video I am just about to take possession of the 2025 hyundai tucson hybrid but your insight is of interest 😊
Well, Kirk ... your diligence has convinced me to cross the CX50 Hybrid off my list, unless they come around and include some of the features you note as omitted. As it stands, with the same power train, one gets a better deal with the Toyota Crown Signia (which for other reasons is also a disappointment). The Toyota '25 Camry Hybrid XSE beats them both if one can get over the 'wagon' form factor.
I was interested in the Crown Signia until I saw one driving off the lot and didn’t the wow factor I thought I would! The new 25’ Camry is a NICE looking car though!
The PHEV CX70 and CX90 has an energy reading screen. Even the regular gasoline mazda vehicles have a menu for Energy reading (showing that I-stop is ready). How the hell did they forget this feature on a hybrid cx50?
My Mazda3 Turbo is the same way. I have rear parking sensors, but if I went Turbo PP, then I'd have front sensors as well. Odd decision from Mazda. Either way, love these cars.
All the features the hybrid PP has are the same with NA PP, they will definitely not going to put TPP features on it, it will plummet they turbo sales big time.
I would prefer cloth seats as well but not for the same reason. Cloth is cheaper and usually lasts longer. I don't really care what the seats are made of because I use seat covers. They're expensive but Neoprene seat coves fit like a glove and are soft, cool and verry durable. I've had a set on my F150 for years now and there are no signs of wear. The lines that don't move on the backup camera is strange. Cheap base model cars have them but Mazda wants people to spend thousands more for the top trim level. They still have trouble understanding what's important to consumers. It's not like adaptive rearview cameras are expensive. Mazda's their own worst enemy. If they wanted to sell more cars they would offer basic things like the camera across the line. This is why the RAV4 will continue to kill the competition. It's not rocket science.
Thank you for pointing out these misses. I had a fully loaded 23 CX50 TPP, it had all the things this is missing. It’s a big miss from Mazda. Needs 360cam, full lane keep, parking sensor, heated seats and upgraded head and taillights It’s almost like Mazda is punishing us for getting a hybrid. Too trim should be available on a standard hybrid. I currently have a CX90 PP PHEV and that too is missing the lane keep and the upgraded taillights. Get with it Mazda!
I own a 2024 CX-50 Premium with cloth seats. Owned less than 6 months and they are fraying. Probably a good thing. They snag really easy. Frusterating situation. My major dislike is that you have to turn car off to raise the lift gate. If car is on, the dashboard button just beeps. Annoying when wife wants something out of the back end and car is on.
Thanks for showing me :). I got more options when I click on menu. Mazda should had included the EV scene. Weird. I got the Meridian PP Canada. Included all options here. Love it. Can’t wait to see the whole driving review.
Toyota does not want the CX-50 to compete with the RAV4 until the new one comes out with the fifth gen hybrid. The Mazda 4th gen will be left flapping in the wind.
So since it's basically A Rav4 hybrid drive train in a Mazda CX5, does it still use the same high voltage cable setup being used in the '24 RAV4hybrids? In Other words, has Toyota introduced CableGate to the Mazda lineup? Toyota needs to pull their heads from a dark place & change this mistake.
Could you just give us an idea of the real fuel economy of this vehicle? Is it anywhere close to the claimed 38 mpg? I need to make a decision about buying this vehicle tomorrow.
No parking sensors on the top trim Mazda hybrid, no 360 camera, tiny little rear only camera, no heated steering wheel??? Great review, bummed the Mazda hybrid left so many things out.
Those are coming in the Canadian top trim I believe. Interesting 🤔
Head up display?
Very disappointing indeed. I love everything else.

So many misses on this hybrid when I was pumped for the release. Was holding out for the hybrid but going Turbo at this point.
The battery is under the rear seat in the hybrid. Imagine if they put the heated rear seats on top of the battery under the seat.... wouldn't be good.
@@gailenrique2804 heated rear seats in Canada on top trim
@@srobertson2502 exactly so it’s not an excuse Lol. They excluded so many things on the US model
Agreed! This is such a disappointment. Can’t comprehend why they excluded so many features yet included them on the Canada version. 😢
The preferred trim has both cloth and pleather, not 100% pleather.
Still using that rotary/dial infotainment system? If yes, it's a quick pass ......
Yes, it’s a cloth in the middle, surrounded by PU leather.
Personally, I don’t need extra technology, and Mazda kind of just does simple really well
I reckon Mazda will lose a lot of sales by not including 360, parking sensors, etc..

What trims??? Turbo Premium Plus???? but I value mpg, not the turbo.
Having 10 plus trims for the same model, yet customers don't get what they want. Brilliant business minds.
Canadian version of the CX-50 Hybrid GT has surround view 360 camera, heating steering and front & rear parking sensors. Idk why the american version got so much of it taken out...
Wow this just went from a top pick to no thanks
I was interested until I heard that there’s not even rear parking sensors or a 360 camera available. On a 2025 car those should be included on any higher trim level model. What the heck are they thinking here?
Thanks, kirk. What's upsetting is that mazda is giving those features to Canadian models. Well, mazda is not getting my business.
Common for Japanese makes to give other markets the good models / features. It makes no sense to me why they do this.
@AD-lf9ck Honda doing the same thing, and some of their factory plant is in the USA..Go figure!
If you can’t get a 360 camera or parking sensors, I’m not interested. It’s ridiculous for a car at this price point not to offer those things.
I thought the same. If they care so much to include all these features only for the Canadians, I will pass and let them have it all :) I was considering a CX-50 and I was waiting for the hybrid but I'm disappointed. If I wanted a Toyota engine I would buy a Toyota.
Road Keep Assist is listed in the last bullet point of the safety features. See the 9:54 point of the video.
The Canadian version also has rear/front parking sensors in the GT Hybrid model.
Synthetic leather is easy to maintain and clean if you have children. Could you imagine dirty cheetos, chocolate, and juice stains on cloth seats from the little rugrats? It's a disgusting site.
There are seat covers
@Mrmajellan123 Seat covers are not going to stop any liquids from soiling through the seats. And besides, it takes away the look of the car. Just get synthetic leather. Get a windshield sun protector and tint the windows to reduce heat for those who live in warmer climates.
@@Mrmajellan123seat covers cannot cover 100% of the seats because of side airbags built into the seats … be careful with them
Just clean your car. I have shampooed out 10 your old stains when I buy a used car. Really easy
@thebeddoctor4273 Why does anyone need to do all of that work when it's less maintenance for cleaning with synthetic leather?
Living in Tampa, Florida, I have never had any issue with the leather seats in my cars due to the heat! I rarely used the ventilated seats in my Lexus RX 350 that I used to have or in my CX 50!
The top trim, non-aspirated CX 50 and now the hybrid do not have quite as many features as the top trim level in the turbo. I was hoping they would add a few more things in the 2025 models for the premium plus trim
I’m cross shopping this with the Acura RDX and the Lexus RX 350, how would you compare the 3 in your experience?
The CX-50 hybrid has 3 trim levels. Compare to the Rav4 hybrid that has 8.
Thank you so much for bring up the sensors and 360 camera that I mentioned in your last video of the cx50 hybrid!!! You’re legit my most favorite journalist on yt and it makes me so happy that you mentioned it! Stay awesome!! 😁
Thanks for chiming in mate!
After watching this and seeing these missing features I will not be buying one. Mazda, get your act together.
Same, I'll be keeping my 2019 CX-5
Very excellent review Kirk
Kurt, do we know if the CX-50 hybrid has the *full* functionality of the Toyota climate control system? Specifically: the ability to automatically turn the engine on/off for heat and the AC (powered by the battery) for cooling to maintain a selected temperature, while the car is in "on" or "ready" mode without the engine running? This is huge for folks who car camp in Toyota Priuses, hybrid RAV-4s, Siennas, etc.
Not adding parking sensors or a 360 camera at this price point is so bizarre. How hard is it to add after market…
It's generally reserved for the top trim turbo premium plus in the mazda lineup here in the USA.
@@RespectTheScrubs aftermarket ones are not connected to the car's infotainment display
In Canada we get 360 camera, heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and the lane centring. Not sure why they don’t include these in the USA
I'm looking forward to your driving impressions, especially the front seat comfort. Other reviewers have mentioned that they found the seats on the firm/hard side.
i hope all mazdas get looks like this model here
I mean I don't want for backup sensors in my mazda3. In this day and age it seems unnecessary unless a vehicle is massive with huge blind spots.
Rear view camera, cross traffic alerts, and auto tilting side view mirrors (great feature) are a far more useful combination of features.
The Mazda 3 has huge blind spots! I've had one for about 3 years.
Especially the hatch@@billetherington8849
Parking sensors are a MUST HAVE.
Well the 2025 CX-5 Premium Plus & up & have the 360° camera system, so I think they give you trajectory only when you get the 360° camera system
I'm in the same boat. Going to test a Crown Signia next.
@@funnyfarm299 those are expensive
Kirk, The biggest mystery about the CX-50 relates to the fact it probably has the least rear seat headroom in this class of vehicle. 🤨
@@rightlanehog3151 why is it the biggest mystery?

@@andreaaedwards7490 It is another case of style over substance.
totally agree on the parking sensors. i have the 2023 n.a. premium plus and u are exactly correct u don’t get 360 or parking sensors unless u get the turbo pp. like wtf these car companies gatekeeping basic features that have been around for decades. my beater baby 2003 ford escape has parking sensors.. but my 2023 highest level trim without the turbo doesn’t ? i’m outraged and i don’t understand how we’ve gotten to this point w these stingy car companies. i’d take parking sensors over the stupid lane keeping assist that sucks butt.
No CVt on this Mazda or any Toyota.
@@rodneybatterman1846 drone? nope 75 miles an hour uphill no such noise. Good luck with the Hyundai Get rid of it when it's out of warranty
This is disappointing. All these missing features show Mazda rushed the car into market.
Think of this as the 1st generation cx-50 hybrid. With the feedback mazda gets, next year's model may get some updates.
I doubt it. I think that they're just trying to keep the price a certain way, and with all of those extra features, it'll probably be a little more than they were hoping for
It can’t even be said to be rushed because as he says, a number of these features that are “missing” is available on the same trim in Canada. The bizarre thing being that both the hybrid and non hybrid CX-50s are made in the same factory for both US and Canada (the one in Alabama)
So it’s not even that Mazda rushed the car into production, they just decided nah screw you for the US market.
Humm...
Canadian version has these missing features and with lower price. The top trim GT starting at CAD $48,350 = USD $34,928!! What is going on??
It’s a good day to be Canadian 🎉
By far the biggest feature missing is a right hand drive version for the Australian market. Aussies love their Mazdas (2nd best selling brand) and hybrids are super popular and are boat racing EVs and PHEVs - a CX50 or CX5 hybrid would destroy the competition.
Toyotas hybrid system is tried and true! Definitely not mad at it!
In Canada you need to get GT trim, you will then get 360 camera and parking sensors
No heated steering wheel???
your in FL. no heated steering wheel for you. Dont need that in AZ either
Wow!! Those are some really huge misses from Mazda.
The bass Canadian model gets a lot more equipment than we get here in the United States
Does it have remote start from the key fob or have they done away with that?
Are the seats uncomfortable? Is there enough leg room in the rear seating?
This's the cleanest engine swap i seen...😅
The lack of parking sensors and the 360 camera with predictive lines is mind boggling. We have a Mazda3 also missing those.
I wish you could get the top trims without being forced into bigger wheels. Aside from the added cost, you lose fuel economy and feel more of the road due to less tire volume.
KIRK PLEASE ASK MAZDA REPS FOR US THAT WHY THEY DIDN'T INCLUDE THOSE FEATURES TO US TRIMS. THANK YOU
Such weird features to omit, hopefully they come in future model years. I would never consider dropping this much on a new car if it didn't have a 360 cam, and rear sensors at the very least, but both front and rear would be nice.
Personally Mazda first Hybrid is CX-90 PHEV this is there second hybrid and I am curious to see if it sells well or not
I see a lot of complaints there’s no 360 camera…the heck you need that for? If you can see, and turn your head/neck…what’s the point other than adding more to the MSRP?
Once you have the 360 cameras plus all the safety sensors you will not ever want to go back. These features help assist you in driving safely. I know of instances when backing up, running over bikes, even tapping pedestrians. Sensors help alert you of things you might not be aware of. IMHO
Haha confirmed the back up noise is the CX90’s as well. My mom has a 90
Thanks for the video. Question that nobody seems to mention: Toyota hybrids can do climate control when the car is off. They can run the AC or the heater and then turn the engine on briefly to recharge the hybrid battery if needed. Can the CX-50 Hybrid do this?
I don't recall the first generation Ford Escape (and siblings) having a hybrid system.
All three-trim line in the CX50 do have heated steering wheel in Canada
What is the 0-60 time for cx 50 hybrid?
About 3 minutes.
Does it have Mazda signature rear light?
Does this have a spare tire?
@Kirk Kreifels: Nice ride but $42k for top trim and no heated steering wheel... I'm out. And why force a moonroof on me at mid-level trim? I agree on the 19 inch wheels, no bueno! I guess I have to get a Honda CR-V, did not want to have to do that.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video I am just about to take possession of the 2025 hyundai tucson hybrid but your insight is of interest 😊
Before you take that car, read reviews of the brand as we speak, you may be making the biggest mistake of your life stephenwinter8892
This is so good. Mazda >Honda
Those futures are included in the gt trim. There are only 3 trims
Yes the Canadian version of the cx50 hybrid has more features.
How truthful is the hybrid reliability issues, according to Garage Heads channel!?
Thank you for pointing out these misses. I had a fully loaded 23 CX50 TPP, it had all the things this is missing. It’s a big miss from Mazda. Needs 360cam, full lane keep, parking sensor, heated seats and upgraded head and taillights It’s almost like Mazda is punishing us for getting a hybrid. Too trim should be available on a standard hybrid.
I currently have a CX90 PP PHEV and that too is missing the lane keep and the upgraded taillights.
Get with it Mazda!
Toyota must of charged them an arm n leg for the drive train. Had to skip on features
Love it. Can’t wait to see the whole driving review.
gonna wait for the subaru forester hybrid before I make my decision.
