Yea! Finally someone is saying it! SUGA reminds me of Michael Jackson in how they chose these mini films as their music videos. His arm and wrist bands remind me of MJ too.

Unlike the US that was raised on live music, then radio; S Korea went straight to videos in the late 80’s. So as they gained freedom, they learned from Mtv videos what the rest of the world was listening to. So the Michael influence makes perfect sense

I'm so happy y'all got the meaning of 'haegeum' so quickly! Some Armys actually had a theory that the version of him that was poorer and more humble was trying to get rid of his bad side by "killing" the king off, but in haeguem it seems that he's the same one from Daechwita with the healed scar. And is now acting as the "bad" one now. But finally the Yoongi that is not tormented by his past and traumas doesn't hold a scar of any kind and does as he pleases within the mv. He's meant to be seen as the better version of himself, and doesn't care about the money and burns it. In the end he finally gets rid of that version of himself.
Yoongi often talks about burning up his past in a lot of his music to become a new person. Although, with the last ending screen in Haegeum, where he looks at us, it's almost giving off the vibe that it's never really over. A bad side of yourself can always rise to the top if you lose your true self, which in turn, creates scars and almost haunts you as you try to move on. I swear my brain has been mush piecing together these mvs, BTS are truly geniuses when it comes to story-telling in their music.

My suggestions for your next reaction, depending on what you want to do:
    * Stay on Suga's path: "Agust D" - his first solo single, a must
    * Explore the other two rappers:
    - RM: "Joke" (if you want insane flows) or "Wildflower" (if you want deep lyrics)
    - J-hope: "More" or "Arson"
    * See how explosive the three rappers are when together: "Outro: Tear" (Wembley version) or "Ugh" (Busan version)
    * Explore the vocalists:
    - Jin: "Epiphany" or "The Astronaut
    - Jimin: "Like Crazy" or "Serendipity" (stage mix version)
    - V: "Singularity" or "Stigma" (live version)
    - Jungkook: "Euphoria" (live version) or "Stay with You
    * See how the vocalist's unique voices blend to touch your heart: "Truth Untold" or "House of Cards"
    * A look at the whole group BTS: "Mic Drop" or "Black Swan" or "Born Singer" (stage compilation version, a remake of J. Cole's "Born Sinner")
Their MVs have subtitles, but for live performances, add "Eng Sub" in your search box.

You got the meaning on point. Haegeum means to lift a ban/get rid of something forbidden. Even him smoking in the video was a personification of this because idols are severely criticised for every little thing and it's dangerous.

    • @Pauline601
      @Pauline601 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I just learned that smoking is not allowed on screen, you might see it in their hand, but they are not allowed to light it and most definitely not allowed to smoke it on screen, so this MV is a Haegeum- banned / forbidden.

Yoongi is the most savage of the Rap Line... This is the sequel to Daechwita.. This is why this man is my bias🤍💜💜💜💜 love this man's deep lyrics.. Haegeum is a play on words.. It's a traditional 2 strong Korean instrument and it means "to free that which is forbidden, banned or restricted".. You can hear the Haegeum playing in the background... I'm really glad you guys picked up on all of that💜💜

    Explainer:
Ok so it’s a trilogy for Min Yoongi’s (Suga of BTS) persona Agust D. It’s about who Agust D is and also in a way who yoongi is and is and what he has to say
    daechwita haegeum and amygdala.
Amygdala is technically a prequel to both this songs but needs to be watched last.
So a lil background. Suga created Agust D to talk about things he couldn’t talk as part of BTS this isn’t because he felt trapped in BTS or anything but because as a group the 7 guys have to talk as a group and not really just individuals alone. They let their personalities shine but at the same time they are respectful and mindful that it’s not imposing on one another.
So Agust D was born prior to his official solo album D-Day that haegeum is the title track to be released D1 and D2 albums as mixtapes free for Army. Daechwita is part of D2.
Part 1 Daechwita: Here both the characters the king and the other one has a scar on their face and both are angry. But one’s anger is corrupt and violent AKA the king and the other uses words but not violence directed towards anything and everything. The hero character kills the king in the end who was wasting a valuable emotion - anger.
The hero is against the corrupt and the wrong that leads to mass destruction in the aim of influence.
Part 2 Haegeum: we see here again two more characters but this time only one has the Scar the other one doesn’t. This may mean either the corrupt king could not be really killed as it’s a cycle and the wrong keeps repeating like in matrix Mr. Smith or alternatively it can mean the hero who fought corruption in Daechwita ultimately got corrupted as well because that’s how the world rolls. In the Haegeum the anger in lyrics is not towards haters but towards the system and how that has affected the people to do things that they do. He kills with the chopstick and eats with it. So to speak that everything he just spoke in the lyrics ultimately to survive we have to partake in the system to survive. Kill to survive. Kill to eat. In this the scar face corrupt detective who was actually behind the money laughs before he dies probably knowing well that just like last time in daechwita he can’t ever really die and will come back.
Part 3 Amygdala: it’s a super personal song for suga and he has spoken in his documentary that it was the most difficult to write as it brings back his traumas.
But the song also shows us the origin of Agust D will explain that shortly but first some background for the music video scenes.
Suga when he was still a trainee with big hit and BTS hadn’t debuted, to make ends meet he used to work as a food delivery person. Big Hit was almost hitting bankruptcy anyway as they were very small. So suga one day met with a car accident that lead to his shoulder getting severely injured. But he hid that from everyone for years actually he lied at the time that he had just fallen off the stairs. He lied because he thought if the company got to know they will take him out as surely to fix his shoulder it would not just require money but also puts him in a spot where he probably won’t be able to dance or perform as well as others. And suga needed to make it in the group. Only after many years did he actually get a surgery done so for years he suffered with the pain from that accident.
Amygdala is a part of the brain that’s in charge of storing experiences and kind of learning how to respond to similar situations basis them. So our trauma is stored there and fear stems from those traumas for similar situations.
In the video the person stuck in the void is his merories and trauma and that’s the person that gives himself a scar on the face. The scar is the symbolism to feeling broken hurt and ultimately angry. Basically that’s Agust D from all the traumas and self doubted a creation that was filled with anger anger towArds a lot of things and around people.
Amygdala is the prequel but also it’s the end of Agust D as the last song for now as Suga mentioned that he is not angry towards things anymore he is a calmer happier person. And this comes from the fact that he worked on his trauma and has moved on the song therefore is his catharsis and hence it’s the story of the beginning but it’s the song of the end.
Hope this helps you get to know our meow meow suga min yongi better.
He is a wonderful human being who endured a lot suffered from social anxiety and even ADHD atleast from what I have heard the other Army say. He is a person who has opened up a lot in his mix tapes and he has least to say saved a lot of people with his music.
For every member of BTS the lyrics are the most important it would be a wonderful journey for you if you read and understand what they say through their music.
They say you never find BTS. BTS finds you. That means they find you at a life stage where you really needed to be found. Their music their personality helps you feel better know yourself better and love yourself better.
As one of the members had said once. Out of 7 remember that atleast one of us will understand you. And you will feel that as you keep listening and seeing them.
We Welcome you in their universe and hopefully you will be true and authentic.
    Thank you

The thing is almost every single member of BTS have been compared to MJ at this point. Its crazy how you can have 7 different people in the same group and every single one remind the gp of MJ.
Jhope has been compared to mj for his stage presence, jimin for his dance moves, jk for his personality and performance at the world cup, Tae for his looks and charisma, and now Suga for the music videos...
    It's crazy.
The thing is bts has everything. Deep lyrics, beats. They make bangers and have amazing music videos. Crazy performances.
Their music sends a strong message of rebellion and self betterment... which in turn changes the world.
    Incredible.

If you're curious about who makes their music videos just scroll down in the description. The majority of BTS' music videos are done by a directorial team known as Lumpens. The majority of their videos do have a cinematic flare, and they use practical effects whenever possible.

Yes! I love that you really notice how much American rap has spread and gained worldwide fans and influence, and that those global fans are mixing it with their own traditions and cultures and likewise spreading those new mixes around the world and back to the place and people it all began with - especially how you embrace those new forms of rap... This is how different cultures can come together and find similarities while also learning about and appreciating the differences

    Great reaction
Good to hear thought and opinion not just praise
There’s so much to recommend from BTS catalogue of over 300 tracks but … I always suggest hip hop lover there are several good live performances but look for one with subs… it describes their history and love for hip hop
    And second born singer
    A remake of j Cole’s born sinner
There’s a live stage mix of performances from 2015 and 2017 in Japan and another live on their proof live video from Las Vegas in 2022.

I absolutely agree with what you said about these themes being worldwide. I love listening to music from around the world, and it really can unite us all when we see how many shared struggles and desires we ALL have. Thank goodness we have broken the language barrier 💜
Also THIS is why you heard so many ARMYs screaming for him on Fallon. It wasn’t just for his skills and good lucks; it’s also WHAT he is saying that we feel passionately about. Also going on an American show and performing a song with no English lyrics (especially when that song is about lifting a ban) is just such a badass, powerful thing to do. He is breaking barriers while performing a song about breaking barriers and not holding each other back. 🔥🔥

Idk if you noticed he was smoking in the music video the inspiration behind that is one of his band members jungkook was caught smoking in a couple lives and stuff and the destructive cancel culture really crucified him and he was just sick of them not letting them be human and acting like they are puppets to the industry💜

In Daechwita “lower class” Agust D takes out the bad king Agust D and that now in turn rose up but became corrupt as well now as the corrupt cop, and is taken out again by a “lesser” August D. Fighting the corruption that’s at the top. This time we have a dead body which in Daechwita, they didn’t show. This kind of wraps up that story line. All three Agust D had the scar except this last one standing.
The scar you’ll see started in the Amygdala mv, kind of explains the birth of Agust D. Angry at the world from all he had been through.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the music and mv. Their work is truly great, real lyrics and real production.

    Daechwita
The street Agust D kills the mad king who is his younger self from when he was bleaching his hair. The era of his first mixtape (titled Agust D.)
The scar is the sign of the emotional and mental wounds he is carrying. On the king the scar is still more fresh, because his wounds are less healed. Also a visible scar would have disqualified him to be king (visible imperfection) in that time, so it shows he must be a tyrant who has killed everyone who objected, as we can see around him all the bodies and heads. The king is greedy and paranoid and angry, but also isolated and alone, everyone bowing in fear.
The other Agust D has an older, more healed scar showing he is healing his internal hurts. He is also no longer alone. The 6 men and a woman behind him represent his brothers in BTS and his fans (ARMY.) He is confident rather than paranoid, and he has achieved his dreams and goals and wants to come back down to earth and let go of greed, paranoia and pain. So he kills the mad king with a Colt ARMY model gun, showing fans gave him the strength to heal.
    ~
    Heageum
The street Agust D has now become a corrupt police detective. He seems like a good guy on the outside but his motives are still not good, and he is still greedy.
Here the most current version of himself kills the detective (with his BTS brothers backing him up, symbolized by his gang) after declaring he wants to be rid of the shackles of capitalism, greed, expectation, even labels. He just wants to be himself and explore wherever that takes him. This message is very similar to the one RM (his bandmate) delivers in his single Wildflower from his album Indigo. Here Agust D no longer has the scar. He has healed enough that it is gone.
    ~
    AMYGDALA
The amygdala is the part of the brain that stores emotions. Here Agust D/Suga/Yoongi is going back to the beginning, to the origin of the mad king and the wounding. He has said that in the past, when bad things happened, he was not emotionally healthy and so he didn’t deal with them well and that this caused a lot of his trauma and mental struggles. So he says that much of his trauma was self inflicted, hence the self inflicted wound on his face. He mentions multiple things he struggled with, illnesses of his parents, his accident and all the pain for years afterwards, etc.
In this song he is cracking open his Amygdala because he is finally healed enough to face these first traumas in a real, raw and honest way and he has also accepted that these memories will always be a part of him.

Now that you’ve gotten a few songs by Suga aka August D, and even a song by Jimin, suggest checking out the other two rappers of BTS.
“Joke” by RM for starters. It’s old old, like when they were new, but it’s definitely a great intro to him. His latest album is “Indigo” and he has a lot to collabs on it.
J-Hope latest album “Jack in the Box” has two mv “More” and “Arson” and he headlined Lollapalooza where her met his idol J-Cole for the first time. You can watch his performance, it’s definitely lit, broke records for Lollapalooza, it’s worth a watch. Before his military enlistment, he released a song for his fans featuring J-Cole “On the street”.
And of course there’s the Cyphers. I suggest a live video with the medley of all 4 Cyphers. But newest performance was their kind of farewell concert Yet To Come in Busan and rap line performed n “Ugh” and “Cypher Killer” back to back, there’s a video of an excerpt of those two songs you can react to. The entire concert is over two hours.

Another Suga song: "The Last" has no mv (its lyrics are very personal)
From the BTS album related to Carl Jung's psychological theories there is a trilogy that is:Suga: "Shadow", RM: "Person", Jhope: " Ego".
BTS Cyphers They are for the Haters from the beginning of his career there are 4. Another song from the Rap line: it's "UGH" and "Ddang" hehehe to understand the meaning I had to watch the explanatory mv of the Dkdktv channel They are Koreans who explain cultural references in English. I recommend them either in private or to react, they whenever they are mentioned They allow reactions.
From Jhope I love "MORE" and "arson"
RM:"do You" Or any of his indigo album.
    Vocal line:
Jin: mv "The astronaut" (dedicated to ARMY, because he was the first to go to Korea's mandatory military service) mv "Epiphany", "Aweke", "Yours" (It's an OST of a Korean drama, I don't remember the link of the mv because it's from the drama page.)
From Jimin You already reacted to some song but I like nueva "like crasy" and old: "Lie" and "serendipity"
V : mv "singularity", "stigma" sweet night", "Christmas tree"
Jk: "Still with You", "Dremers" (la canción del mundial) "Euphoria".
There are live online performances of the songs "your eyes tell", "Film out" are very beautiful songs.
From their latest album I recommend "RUN BTS" although it must be taken into account that there is a much earlier song called "Run". Busan live concert and dance practices.
There are so many that I like.
I don't know what genres of music they like apart from rap, i like a variety of them.
Sorry for the use of the translator.

Something interesting about what you said about the beat change in Daechwita. What's most impressive is that the beat doesn't actually change at all, it stays the same through the whole song, it's just his flow and tone that makes it seem different- true artistry

Yea in Amygdala mv he cuts himself in the eye, they fully show it but there was a shadow of it happening. Basically representing him hurting himself because of past decisions & then he begs his amygdala to save him, since the amygdala keeps data of when something bad happens to you, that way you dont do that same thing. You automatically run from anything that puts you in that state of fear.
So yeah lmao thats why he already has the cut. And in daechwita his past/blonde him had the scar & he kills him in the end
So in this mv he is just killing his old self so many times 😅 also when he drowned himself here it turns out it wasnt him but it technically was because he put himself in that situation. Its some insidious shit but not dreaming because it happens all the time in our minds. We go do something we knew wasnt correct and when we get caught in the current we find out we cannot blame the other person and we end up blaming ourselves.
(I feel like you would say, yeah that part😂 cause its a lot i wrote, but you know)

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Did u spot that there is 6 gang members with Suga. o.0 Suga always has BTS represented in his MVs. He so sweet. Jimin ult bias, Suga wrecker, OT7.
He looks so hot. Love the souvenir jacket his wearing. I have one too but mine is black and has cranes on it. I love dragons though and my fav color is blue & black. I kind of thought we would not have a song like Daechwita on this album. Well guess i was wrong, huh. 0.0 I was really surprised on 1st watch. I never thought he would connect 3 MVs together. 0.0 That is brilliant. Suga is such a genius. I love it. Suga during the premier said to listen to Daechwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala. So that's what i am going to do. Powerful song. I like that we continue the story from Daechwita. But this song is more violent. Geez. He is such a savage! I liked it. Good rhythm. Suga is a visual. Excited to rewatch the MVs in order like he suggested. Did u spot the Joker reference i missed that. Ur reaction was many of us. He is such a boss! Here's a list of solo projects. D-Day is not there yet so u can check genius site until doolset updates her's. doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/solo-projects/

So Haegeum means allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden. His whole album is overflowing with his emotions, and not only does he talk to himself in his album, he talks directly to the listener (especially with one particular song, where it almost feels like he breaks the 'fourth wall'. I've experienced it via a movie before, but never by song, until now) there are ARMY translator accounts on Twitter, so if you want to listen to his album on Spotify or Apple music etc, you can have the lyrics pulled up to help you understand what he is expressing 💜
    ScreamCheeese said on 4/21/23
Haegeum also means “to liberate” or “to release” from bans, restraints, or something forbidden. You also really need to see Daechwita!! You’ll understand a lot more of this MV and it’s just as amazing! Just a movie-like. Min Yoongi is a genius for a reason 😩
    Plants healing said on 4/21/23
Haegeum has two meanings. The first is a traditional Korean stringed instrument used in this music "this song's a haegeum", and the second, as the lyrics say, "a new kind of haegeum" means "unlock".
Yoongi uses both haegeum in his lyrics.
    Addison McDorman said on 4/22/23
Haegeum: the English lyrics & the meaning.
Haegeum is a song about unlocking our new potentials, freeing something previously forbidden. The word “Haegeum” has a double meaning. On one side, it’s a traditional Korean string instrument that has a very peculiar sound, but this is not the authentic meaning Agust D/Suga intended originally.
Haegeum” means “allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden.” Here is how he explained it in an interview:
The word “Haegeum” came to me when I was young. I played rhythm games, I loved rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you’d unlock a forbidden song, then you could play a new rhythm. It was a “freedom from the forbidden.” Why don’t I try and break free from those things?
This is explicitly confirmed by the English translation of the lyrics in Haegeum:
This song’s simply about freeing what’s forbidden but you must remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence
    This song’s a haegeum
    Get on board now
    This lively rhythm
    A new kind of haegeum
    Marissa McWhiter said on 4/22/23
The second meaning of haegeum is the lifting of the ban of something forbidden.
Adding what I think the story is based on things I’ve heard from other reactors...commentaries and what he said in the d-day documentary.
First of all he did say in his intro of the video during the premiere that this video is the second of a trilogy. He said the three videos meant to be seen together is Daechwita, haegeum and amygdala ...which is coming up!
So I believe the king in Daechwita, the first form of august D, was killed by black haired scar face agust D. But then black hair becomes the boss in Haegeum. He seems to be a police detective or officer that is corrupt. He runs his operation from above the Asian noodle restaurant. New Agust d wants to kill him too! Maybe like in Daechwita it’s because of his corruption. So he invades the headquarters and gets his money. On his way out we see a guy making a phone call to the boss...but new agust d gives him a nod. So I think just like in Daechwita new agust d has a deal with this insider to help him kill the boss. So this new guy didn’t really want the money it was just a bait to get him close to the boss. So like in Daechwita, as he was about to be killed he switches the story and kills the Boss instead. Before the boss gets shot we see the boss smirk. I saw a comment that this could be because he knows that this New guy will also meet his fate! So in the end new guy was accepted by the boss’ men and he was delivered to their headquarters the restaurant where he takes over. The final Shot of him eating with the tool he used to kill a man suggests that the violence will sustain him. So now we will wait for amygdala to see how the story ends!
So the song itself was explained by Suga in the documentary. He explains that as idols there are a lot of things they seem to be restricted from doing, acts that are normal for some will become controversies for idols. Like if his smoking at the age of 31 will be seen as wrong then he wants this song to be the start of liberating or lifting some of the restrictions put on them. He also talked about the effect on too much information and how easy to get them also starts to restrict thinking. It’s a very deep song!
The funny thing is...this song has triggered a bit of hate from kpop on social media! Fans of other groups are thinking Yoongi was targeting them...or even saying he shouldn’t be against capitalism since he is from Hybe! Lol totally missing the point of the song...or maybe just proving Yoongi’s observations!
He’s a genius! The rest of the album is genius! I hope you do an album reaction!
Mic mic bungee said on 4/22/23
what's amazing is that in the MV, hanja 解禁 was on the screen which = haegeum, in terms of "to lift a ban" not 奚琴 = haegeum the instrument. WHICH MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE because the lyrics talk a lot about judgement, prejudice, and being free from all that. something about it is so raw, and honestly, i feel like it's a big fu to those who try to "cancel" grown idols for doing something normal humans do, like him "smoking" in the MV or just dating, or any issues some fans can't accept. "This song is a haegeum" meaning this song is targeting kpop "fans" who always make a big deal out of things that are not even supposed to be controversial HE'S SO ICONIC FOR THIS.
    Steve Blevins said on 4/25/23
Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 13:36. This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychologic condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list.

Notice both characters he plays 'Smoke' that is a dig at Kpop Culture/rules. The mass population smokes in Korea however Kpop artists(Idol's) caught smoking will come under a lot of hate and can be dropped by their Kpop Company. He said 'I'm 31years old and they say I'm not allowed to smoke?' Well not his KPop company but the Kpop fans and other kpop companies. BTS did get a bit finger pointing by other fandoms because they opening drink alcohol but not from their own company.

The passage isn’t that money is the root of all evil, it’s THE LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil.
How I think of it is that money is like an amplifier. It makes who you are MORE. If you’re a selfish bad person who uses others, you’ll still do that, but on a bigger scale. If you’re a good person who thinks of others and tries to elicit change for the good, you’ll do that, but on a bigger scale.

MV with story telling yep I Asia isn't after to do that. (British arts did that a lot in the late 70's early 80's we in fact started it) If would also like to recommend if you like this type of MV story telling Jeff Satur 'Dum, Dum, Dum' He also use's a traditional instrument writes, composes, produces his own. It's in Thai but his other songs all have a Thai version and an English Version. He's also an actor so the quality of acting in the MV's are not quality just like Agust D(Suga's) acting ability in his MV's.

*AGUST D is SUGA spelled backwards and D T is short for DAEGU TOWN or D-TOWN which is his hometown in South Korea.* With that said, I’ve always looked at AGUST D as MIN YOONGI’s real self. Like our man as come for our souls with this modern take of DAECHWITA. *HAEGEUM means to lift a ban but its also the name of an traditional Korean instrument.* In my opinion, a unspoken fact as a Kpop stan for 15 years Ive only known BTS as the artists who are bold enough in talking bout forbidden truths within and outside of their music which I’m sure there were other artists before them that attempted to bring light into dark side of their culture to try to break free of the old ways that are outrageously wrong in todays present world while in a new decade. *From what I remember the plot shows good vs evil personas of himself (the mad king vs new blood - Old AGUST D vs Present AGUST D) as he continues battles and heal from greed & temptation then goes to end it giving JOKER vibes 😂 #HAEGEUM #AGUSTD
