Mellow them out on one side or maybe even put a little kicker thingy on the right hand side of the first one. That way it gets easier to double while still being mellow enough on the left side to roll with speed
@@lorin5294 yeah good thinking. When I was building it I was looking for big flat rocks for exactly that reason. I wanted to have a rock lip on one side. But all I found was small round ones.
Yeah what Lorin said. If you have a nice flat rock, they make decent lips that can also be snuck past. Pump tracks have steep rollers but they are on flat where yours have so much more speed. You could also fill in the left edge of the lips from the bottom to be less steep. I think moto whoops are fine in any trail at high speeds they just happen in lots of trails. But some might complain about flow.
I think you should mellow it a little bit but then add more dirt to the downside making them more built up in the middle so when your going faster the roll will be more gradual still being about to go fast through them or gap them or manual

Here's an idea. Maybe once you finish making all these trails, you should get a couple mates to test ride them, and open the trails to the public. I too am an aussie and enjoy mountain biking, and just looking at these trails makes me want to send them so bad!!!! Keep up the good work!! also your vids are very good :)

Yeah it was a busy couple of weeks out there thats for sure. I think the next episode will be a bit shorter so I can get it out sooner and not leave you guys waiting too long. I can't wait for top to bottom laps of the trail. I have some exciting changes to be made near the bottom that should be unreal.

I actually planned for this one to be longer it just sortta happened haha. Originally it was just going to be the s-bend but I realised I had some interesting content with the lower section near the boner log. It will be interesting to see how TH-cam picks it up.
Hey Luke, love the channel and current build. Have a much greater appreciation of trails I ride knowing what goes in to making and maintaining them! Mellow the inside of the rollers for better flow into the berm.
Thanks Matthew. There are a lot of absolute legengs out there building and maintaining trails. The true heroes of mountainbiking. Thats a good idea for the rollers. Good to roll threw them at top speed but also be able to gap them.

Ahhh thanks mate! Yup as you know it's a lot of work! It would be nice if I could monetize my channel and earn a bit of cash but I'm still not at that level. But I do have a great time building and filming. I checked out your channel today. Some fun trails over there! You look like you are having a great time riding. So good Luke. So much time put into not only the building but the filming and edits. Can’t wait to see what future Luke does next. Also a nice touch leaving in the real elements like casing the jump riding off the track and the live commentary, it does add more relatability.
Thanks Andrew. Glad you like that I include stuff like casing the jump. I was a bit self-conscious at first sharing my riding because I was so used to watching redbull riders on TH-cam. But I have realised that people love to watch others progress and enjoy relatable content.
Great video! Your right drainage and connecting all the dots are the most important things, sometimes it’s too exciting to build the biggest features but the little things keep the stoke going and drainage keeps the trail open. (and a new video dropping on my birthday can’t get better than that!) Those S berms look like a thrill! Kudos to you for including that the double doesn’t work for you but having the goal to reach that level and leaving the pumps in for others.
Happy birthday legend!!! It's easy to get carried away building features (especially with a youtube audience) and forget about the rest of the trail. But the last month of work fixing up the trail inbetween has been so much fun. It really improves the trail a hell of a lot. No boring bits. The roller gap is pretty gnarly for me at the moment. It's harder than it looks on camera because it's actually pretty tight to the corner and you are still leaned over a little. Then there is a tree at the end of the corner that blocks your view of the roller until last second. And then the landing has a bunch of trees really close just waiting for you to make a mistake haha. I'll get it one day, but think I need to work on my pop a little bit first. Cheers

Another great video. Good advice about the drainage. We had to dig up 6 or 7 berms to add the drainage. Not much fun when they were full of logs and rocks!

Looks the goods! Definitely use the camber on the rollers to offer a shallower mellow line for mates not as skilled and to build speed, and then the bigger side to clear the gap if you already have the speed. Love the series!
As an aspiring biking TH-camr I was just doing research on how to be successful and I see so many of those things you do/did well. Excellent production from start to finish! For your rollers I think it would be fun to put some lip on the far right side to get the extra height/distance as the speed seems pretty set. Always tricky when things are fresh and not rolling as fast as they will worn in

Thanks mate. I wish they were more frequent as well. But it just takes such a long time to produce them. I would love to spend more time at the trail but need to focus on my regular job and paying the bills as well. Wtf, how is it possible that you have 2k subs? Based on the quality of episodes, the voice overs, filming, editing, having merch stores etc, seems like you are doing everything perfectly. I expected to see 100k subs. Anyways, great job, greetings from Finland from a fellow mtb youtuber.

@@cutlaps I got injured playing soccer. The trail I'm building is made just by hand so it is taking a long time. I still love building things and then trying them out.
@@AlpineRR26 sounds painful. Yeah trails by hand have a great feeling about them. Most of my trail is the same but I use the mini digger to fill the wheel barrow to save time. I probably would only have half the trail without it.
Another great quality video. One word of advice on drainage though, don’t use pipes, they block quickly with leaves and sticks. Better to either plan the corner a bit better to avoid the berm catching water or break it into 2 corners with a drain in between. Make the drains as wide as possible 600-1000mm to keep water flow as wide and as slow as possible across the trail to reduce erosion
@@cutlaps water control is the most part of building a trail system that doesn’t need much maintenance. Diversion banks ie Rollers strategically placed will keep water from channeling down the track. Your alignment is pretty set now but on future trails look for features first then look at how the water flows down the slope and work with that to link your features. You’re doing awesome 👏
@@gregditchburn9786 for sure. I also have the IMBAs guide to building sweet singletrack book. Lots of useful information on building sustainable trails in there. The downhill section after the stump drop will need a bit of work as well. It's a lot steeper in real life than it looks on video. Heat breaking and rain will cause it to rut out. I'm going to have to work out a fix there.
Yeah Luke!! Another cracking video. Your commitment to the series is so good considering you're doing a majority on your own and it's a brand new TH-cam channel trying to grow! As always, loved Aggie hanging out while you built the rollers. ❤️ The speed out of the two new berms is brilliant. Would love to see the next left hand berm scoop up a bit higher on its exit to allow a gap to landing, I think you've got the speed required. Also FYI - I love the length of these videos and the way you piece then together. But I also found myself super eager for this one to drop, checking your channel and Insta a couple of times a week! Considering this was two separate parts of the track, you could probably have done 2 X 5 minute videos 2 weeks apart to keep everyone coming to the channel and help the algorithm. Keep doing what you do man, I'll be here watching and loving it! 😁
Thanks mate! Sadly there are trees in the way of the next berm making it hard to get enough scoop for a jump. But I had semi planned something like that on the first left hander that I just built. When the next corner is built I may go back and see if I can create a gap from berm to berm which cuts out the tight right hander. And I agree with you about the 2 x 5 minute videos. But the first part of the video (berms and rollers) wasn't even going to be a video. It was supposed to be a quick and easy build just to fix up the trail. But half way through I realised how cool the section would be and started filming. So there wasn't enough footage for a video on it's own. Lesson learned... film everything and decide what is interesting enough for a video later. Thanks again for watching along!

Thats so cool you are building your own trail as well. It's so much fun. I started my trail without the excavator and fell in love with trail building. So eventually I thought it would be cool to buy a second hand digger to speed up my digging. It was such a good purchase. I figured that if I stopped using the digger I could just sell it again because they hold their value well. But I can't imagine selling it now. It's just perfect.

Spider went for a ride. So awesome to see you build a track cut into a mountain side. Your water runoff you could have used some rocks for the water to flow down more away from your bike track. FYI
One time I took my bike in for a service and they found a few spiders and a wasp nest 🤣🤣. Oh the joys of living out in the bush. With the rocks idea, you mean try and divert the water before it gets to my trail?

Haha I like that! I think if I were to make changes, I could fill in the middle bit a little. That way it doesn't dip down as much between them. It should smooth out the ride a bit more but still allow for max flight time off the first roller. But they are good fun at the moment, so maybe I won't make changes.

Hahah that's a poor man's bike wrap. It protects my frame from my bike rack. Usually it wouldn't be an issue but on the constant dirt roads and bumping around I found that it was wearing down my frame. I'm surprised this hadn't been asked earlier. Looks like my bike is held together with tape 😂
In this video I was riding my Norco Optic. It's a fun bike and I still ride it. But I also have a Marin Alpine Trail Ebike. It's the cheapest enduro ebike that Marin make but its been getting the job done for me. Great value for money. I wouldn't mind having a bit better suspension but at that price I can't complain.
@@cutlaps BikesOnline have some good bikes but I wished they sold more giants and treks as I have had a trek Roscoe 6 which was nice but recently the frame cracked so I am looking for norcos as my friend has a norco sight and it’s very nice I have road it a few times. I don't know too much about trees, it could be Jarrah but from what I read thats mostly Western Australia. We do have a few red bloodwood trees on the property. Could have been one of them.
It depends, this was a while ago and we had plenty of rain so the dirt had a great moisture content in it. I don't think I neede much extra water. But now we haven't had any proper rain in months and months so it is really dry. I need to bring in all my own water. I probably wont be doing much dirt work for a while.

Great video! Your right drainage and connecting all the dots are the most important things, sometimes it’s too exciting to build the biggest features but the little things keep the stoke going and drainage keeps the trail open. (and a new video dropping on my birthday can’t get better than that!) Those S berms look like a thrill! Kudos to you for including that the double doesn’t work for you but having the goal to reach that level and leaving the pumps in for others.

It's easy to get carried away building features (especially with a youtube audience) and forget about the rest of the trail. But the last month of work fixing up the trail inbetween has been so much fun. It really improves the trail a hell of a lot. No boring bits.
The roller gap is pretty gnarly for me at the moment. It's harder than it looks on camera because it's actually pretty tight to the corner and you are still leaned over a little. Then there is a tree at the end of the corner that blocks your view of the roller until last second. And then the landing has a bunch of trees really close just waiting for you to make a mistake haha. I'll get it one day, but think I need to work on my pop a little bit first.

Another great video. Good advice about the drainage. We had to dig up 6 or 7 berms to add the drainage. Not much fun when they were full of logs and rocks!

Looks the goods! Definitely use the camber on the rollers to offer a shallower mellow line for mates not as skilled and to build speed, and then the bigger side to clear the gap if you already have the speed. Love the series!

As an aspiring biking TH-camr I was just doing research on how to be successful and I see so many of those things you do/did well. Excellent production from start to finish! For your rollers I think it would be fun to put some lip on the far right side to get the extra height/distance as the speed seems pretty set. Always tricky when things are fresh and not rolling as fast as they will worn in

Roller Ideas: 1. Move them apart 2. Bring them together and fill the gap with a table. 3.Combine them into one long roll.

Thanks mate. I wish they were more frequent as well. But it just takes such a long time to produce them. I would love to spend more time at the trail but need to focus on my regular job and paying the bills as well. Hopefully one day as the channel grows I can earn some money from it and become a full time TH-camr.

@@cutlaps I got injured playing soccer. The trail I'm building is made just by hand so it is taking a long time. I still love building things and then trying them out.
@@AlpineRR26 sounds painful. Yeah trails by hand have a great feeling about them. Most of my trail is the same but I use the mini digger to fill the wheel barrow to save time. I probably would only have half the trail without it.
Another great quality video. One word of advice on drainage though, don’t use pipes, they block quickly with leaves and sticks.
Better to either plan the corner a bit better to avoid the berm catching water or break it into 2 corners with a drain in between.
Make the drains as wide as possible 600-1000mm to keep water flow as wide and as slow as possible across the trail to reduce erosion
Good advice Greg. I was wondering how often I would have to unclog the drain.
@@cutlaps water control is the most part of building a trail system that doesn’t need much maintenance. Diversion banks ie Rollers strategically placed will keep water from channeling down the track.
Your alignment is pretty set now but on future trails look for features first then look at how the water flows down the slope and work with that to link your features.

The downhill section after the stump drop will need a bit of work as well. It's a lot steeper in real life than it looks on video. Heat breaking and rain will cause it to rut out. I'm going to have to work out a fix there.

The speed out of the two new berms is brilliant. Would love to see the next left hand berm scoop up a bit higher on its exit to allow a gap to landing, I think you've got the speed required.
Also FYI - I love the length of these videos and the way you piece then together. But I also found myself super eager for this one to drop, checking your channel and Insta a couple of times a week!
Considering this was two separate parts of the track, you could probably have done 2 X 5 minute videos 2 weeks apart to keep everyone coming to the channel and help the algorithm.

Thanks mate! Sadly there are trees in the way of the next berm making it hard to get enough scoop for a jump. But I had semi planned something like that on the first left hander that I just built. When the next corner is built I may go back and see if I can create a gap from berm to berm which cuts out the tight right hander.
And I agree with you about the 2 x 5 minute videos. But the first part of the video (berms and rollers) wasn't even going to be a video. It was supposed to be a quick and easy build just to fix up the trail. But half way through I realised how cool the section would be and started filming. So there wasn't enough footage for a video on it's own. Lesson learned... film everything and decide what is interesting enough for a video later.

Thats so cool you are building your own trail as well. It's so much fun. I started my trail without the excavator and fell in love with trail building. So eventually I thought it would be cool to buy a second hand digger to speed up my digging. It was such a good purchase. I figured that if I stopped using the digger I could just sell it again because they hold their value well. But I can't imagine selling it now. It's just perfect.

One time I took my bike in for a service and they found a few spiders and a wasp nest 🤣🤣. Oh the joys of living out in the bush. With the rocks idea, you mean try and divert the water before it gets to my trail?

I think if I were to make changes, I could fill in the middle bit a little. That way it doesn't dip down as much between them. It should smooth out the ride a bit more but still allow for max flight time off the first roller. But they are good fun at the moment, so maybe I won't make changes.

Hahah that's a poor man's bike wrap. It protects my frame from my bike rack. Usually it wouldn't be an issue but on the constant dirt roads and bumping around I found that it was wearing down my frame. I'm surprised this hadn't been asked earlier. Looks like my bike is held together with tape 😂

In this video I was riding my Norco Optic. It's a fun bike and I still ride it. But I also have a Marin Alpine Trail Ebike. It's the cheapest enduro ebike that Marin make but its been getting the job done for me. Great value for money. I wouldn't mind having a bit better suspension but at that price I can't complain.

I don't know too much about trees, it could be Jarrah but from what I read thats mostly Western Australia. We do have a few red bloodwood trees on the property. Could have been one of them.

Yeah I do. But I try to mix in as much of the good dirt underneath as much as possible. And a good solid layer on top.

It depends, this was a while ago and we had plenty of rain so the dirt had a great moisture content in it. I don't think I neede much extra water. But now we haven't had any proper rain in months and months so it is really dry. I need to bring in all my own water. I probably wont be doing much dirt work for a while.
