Nalanda university was founded by kumaragupta 1 and it is in Rajagriha (Bihar) .
It was patronised by the successors of kumaragupta and Harshavardhan who is also known as siladitya.
And Nalanda university became prominent in those days.
Nalanda university was also known as Mahayana university.
Even though it was Mahayana university, regardless of religious they used to teach.
    Example:-Vedas, harayana doctrine etc.
To join in Nalanda university, students should appear an entrance which was tough.
Along with these subjects, they used to teach general subjects too.
Such as logic, grammar, astronomy etc.
As Nalanda university is residential , it used to provide free education including boarding and lodging.

-The Nalanda University was known to be an epitome of knowledge and discipline. It was founded by Kumaragupta I during the Gupta period and then was supported by his successors and later by King Harshavardhan.
    - The word 'Nalanda' means 'giver of knowledge'. The university followed Mahayana Buddhism but the students were unbiasedly taught about other existing religions too. Inspite of being a follower of Mahayana Buddhism , it was quite liberal in its approach towards other religions.
    - Nalanda University was one of the renowned universities around the world. It was a residential University with free education and lodging and boarding.
    - The archeological excavations also provide information about the numerous classrooms and hostel facility at the university. The infrastructure also included an observatory and advanced library.
    - The professors of the university were called 'pandits'. They belonged to various cultural and regional backgrounds.
    - Subjects like logic, grammar, astronomy, medicine amd art were included in syllabus. But the most important highlight of the Nalanda University was that ,more emphasis was given to practical learning and discussions rather than classroom lectures. Such advanced teaching concepts was the reason for tremendous demand and popularity of this university all across the globe.
    - In order to maintain its quality of education and discipline, there were entrance tests conducted for admission ,and , only 30% candidates were successful in it.
    - Through all these points we get an insight about the rich educational quality and the objectives of Nalanda University, which set it apart from other institutions of that time.
Hence, there's no doubt that Nalanda University had a huge demand during Harsha's reign.

established in the times of guptas and patronized under the rule of harshvardhana ,"nalanda university" was one of the most eminent centres of education in india .
many chinese pilgrims in their works have provided us with sound evidences of the glory of this university.
it was originally a mahayana university which provided knowledge on some subjects like logic, sankhya, vedic literature and hinayana philosophy.
-in the kannoj assembly called upon by harshvardhana in honour of heung tsang there were many scholars invited from nalanda university. according to heung tsang there were 3000 students studying in the campus of nalanda, which shows the extent of popularity among people to study in nalanda.heung tsang himself has been in nalanda for some time .
nalanda was an masterpiece of knowledge and architecture.there was an observatory and library in three large buildings due to which also it was an subject of interest among people who were not aquatinted with such institutional education at the time.
Moreover the education was free of cost and financed by the taxes from some small villages. it is also a dominant reason why it attracted students from world over.
conclusion-- nalanda was a great step in educating people to make society a better place .free and fair education was the most notable thing of this university. that's why it caught attention of people from the distant parts of the world.

Nalanda University is located in the historical place of Rajgir in Bihar. Started by Kumaragupta I of Gupta dynasty during 5th century. Later it was patronized by successors, followed by Harsha, during whose reign it gained popularity.
Many Chinese travelers mentioned about several educational institutions. Most famous among them were Hinayana University at Valabhiband Mahayana University at Nalanda. Hieun Tsang have given valuable information about the latter.

Nalanda was a residential university and free for the students. Even though free, the disciples were very strict and admissions were through entrance exams from which only less than 30% students got admitted. All kinds of subjects including Vedas, Hinayana doctrine, Sankhya, Yoga etc were taught which shows that they followed a liberal way of teaching. Apart from this, grammar, astronomy, logic, medicine and art also were given due importance. Discussion was an important aspect of learning and Sanskrit was their medium of language.
Itsing, a Chinese pilgrim mentioned about the presence of 3000 students. The building was vast and wide with numerous classrooms, hostel facilities, observatories and a great library in three buildings.
