The tweeter needs to be mounted on the front of the left cabinet to project straight forward like the cabinet on the right for a better comparison. You also need to figure out a way to better indicate which speaker is being played. Be it writing on the screen stating left, right speaker or a light on the speaker that's playing. You need something more definative. It was a nice test otherwise.
Im late to this party, but I had to comment on the kappa vs prime. That was absolutely ridiculous. I loved these videos at first but honestly, and this coming from someone running all gto series jbl (not because these videos) his bias towards jbl is hard to watch. Like the, claim them, but be clear, people come to help decide where they are going to spend a good amount of money
Honestly that JBL is fantastic for being a 60watt, very well rounded & not pushing even close to the skar. let alone when you start pricing together the components/amps/time vs a drop in speaker.
I'm running jbl in my Durango and get all kinds of compliments. Super clear. Gonna bump it up to 4 sets of components in the front and 2 coaxials in the back soon
You are running JBL what in your Durango? I've got the JBL 6x9 GTO's in the back deck and they sound really good and can get quite loud before distorting. I see you said you are going to do 4 sets of components in the front. Four sets of components and 2 coaxials in the back? That's 18 speakers total? I have a set of components in my front doors. By set I mean (a left and right mid, and a left and right tweeter) and 6 x 9"s in the rear meaning a pair. That would sound pretty good and take up a lot of real estate in your Durango but sounds like a pretty good setup. What sub(s) do you use?
The freaking skar tweeter was facing the ceiling... while the other is facing the user. Tweeters are extremely sensitive to off-axis placement. The JBL sounds much clearer and brighter because of this. Face the tweeter the same way and then throw 250W at both of these and then see which one is better.
@@Random-ed2xf At 5:00 the tweeter laying on the table in front of the box, it's pointed straight up at the ceiling. This isn't debatable. That's what it is. If you set it against the front of the box aimed at the one filming (where the mic is) it would sound much different and brighter.
and having one tweeter face up completely ruins the potential for accurately judging anything from a video. high frequencies are very directional. a coaxial will almost always sound "better" (or louder) on a mic recording as it's directing the most musical information directly into the mic. there are other videos where he compares 4ohm speakers with 8ohm speakers without adjusting the volume. shockingly, the 8ohm speaker wasn't as loud, making it seem dull. these are nice unboxing tests but some common sense would go a long way to making the comparison aspect more useful.
Jbl has a wideband it can go as low, high and mid-range skar has a band pass type of slope so to me it is way louder to go with a mid and tweeter separate but the coaxial jbl can do almost the same but smaller. Jbl is a reliable all in one and skar is a pro pa system that takes math to crossover, position and equalize honestly 1 skar 8, 1 skar 6.5 and a good skar tweeter connected to a audiopipe 3 way crossover and at least a 7 band eq sounds awesome for one door can't wait untill the other doors are done
I have the GTO629 in my car. I'm not a huge fan of the highs, as they are a bit piercing and not very crisp and smooth (headache inducing). But they are REALLY clear and you can hear all the instruments even on low volume. I really like that for listening to all genre's in my car. In some cars, you cant put on softer music because you either can't hear the singer or an instrument. With these speakers, you can hear everything, even over a subwoofer. If you want bass, get a subwoofer imo.
I want to get the GTO 629 but are discontinued plus the new price on amazon is $110.00. Would JBL 6.5 Stage series or Club series be better and cheaper?
Mike, I have watched many of your videos and quite often I am not able to tell which speaker is playing. difficult to tell when your thumb is on or off the speaker playing.. Possibly point directly to the speaker playing when it is. thanks

Bad comparison Tweeter still playing from the left when the jbl is playing on the right... just saying And that jbl can not handle no where as many watts as the skar. Skar with ds18 tweeter sounds excellent

If your running a high amp a good high amp. That skar won't give you that clear without all that extra cutting for the tweeters. So yes the skar basically will match your subs with extra bass and the tweeter gives the good sound. So it depends on what you want. If you want bass in your doors right along with the back go for but if not I'd go jbl for that clean sound
As for the music selection, it all depends on what do you want to test from the speaker itself isn't it? Since you says that the Skar speaker has great bass then I think EDM is where it shines. Please don't roast me guys it's just some honest opinion.

Hey man. Thanks for what you've been doing here. I really appreciate it. I am a first time car owner and first time messing around with audio components and stuff.
