I bought a set of these components from Robot Underground last year and they are very impressive. I have them on a recoil red600.4 amp. I paid Patrick about $42 for them and that along with the amps he sold me was one of the best deals I've got in my 39 year history in car audio. Yes since 1985. Don't hesitate to buy them.

They make money because making subwoofers is really cheap. The bigger companies have a markup because of their names. Like kicker the low end subs are trash even tho they cost more than most beginner subs.

The key for any component is to do the right tweaks for the Xover, I've got a set of Cerwin Vega components years ago for about the same price, tbh they sounded great and never blown, so yeah cheap components exist and are good if you take the time to explore its limits, always keep them at reasonable levels and don't over boost them, also also to me I always rather leave the tweeters in a separate channel but takes more time

I have this exact set of Recoil speakers in my 2013 Impala, my son's 2004 Grand Prix, and just bought some to install in my nephews car next weekend. I love all of the Recoil products I have so far. Their amps are nearly the best watt/dollar available right now and all of them will meet or exceed manufacturers rated RMS numbers. I have a Recoil DI600.1, a RED1200.1, and am picking the DI1200.1 very soon. I really think if you're on a budget like me, Recoil has very nice products for a great price and they deserve a quick look if nothing else.

    Good review Big D!
I agree with you about the soft dome tweeter. Maybe it is just because we are getting older(I’m about the same age as you are) but a soft dome just sounds better, and my ears don’t get fatigued after listening for a long time.
As far as the A.I. guy, I’m kinda on the fence. For small parts of the video talking about specifications, I’m ok with it. For the product specific highlights, to me it comes off as the manufacturer pushing their product.
Through my iPhone 8 speaker, I could tell that they did not put out much midbass. However, those speakers are designed for all of the airspace that is typically in a car door, which is going to be more than what those boxes have. So, in theory, midbass should be a little better in a car.
Either way, I like you occasionally changing things up and reviewing something different. Thanks!

Looks like a decent cost effective upgrade over stock speakers. The xover components looked pretty cheap but that's to be expected at this price range. gotta lower production cost somewhere and it looks like that's partly how they did it. Nice touch with the air core inductor though. Variable tweeter settings built in is also nice for the price point. overall, One of the better sets for the money I've seen lately.

Thanks for the demo BIG D I have had bad experiences with component sets in this price range, specifically with the long term durability of the mid. First set I had was rated down to 50 hz, I hi passed at 120hz and a clean 50w rms per channel (rated 60). They lasted less than a year at moderate volume. One day the right one just went quiet and the left one went a few weeks later. Next set was around the same price but appeared higher quality (similar to these you're showing here) and I highpassed those at 160. They failed even sooner. Moral of the story- the mids provided with these cheapO components are midRANGE not midBASS!! The specs may say frequency response down to 60hz or whatever but they really aren't capable of reproducing anything below 300-400hz. You just confirmed this when you said they didn't have much bass! Anyone who buys these take it from me- set your highpass as high as possible and work your way down. I'd bet you stop hearing any fuller sound below 500hz with these. You'll need some actual woofers in your rear fill or something to cover the midbass

I high pass filter these at 120hz also, giving them 60 watts off the Recoil DI550.4 amp, and on a 100hz and 80hz test tones they producing good mid bass in my suv. Not subwoofer volume bass but good enough to reproduce these frequencies without over excursion of the driver...My Stinger 12 inch subwoofer rated at 700 watts RMS/ 1200 watts max, in the Stinger ported enclosure tuned to 35 hz, and subsonic filter at 30hz handles all my bass needs on the Stinger MT1000.1 mono block amp...The mid bass (500hz) you talk about I have absolutely no issue with it playing loudly and cleanly.

If you really want be blown away the rd65 echo pro 6.5 component are the best I have ever heard under $400 and some insane mid bass output !! All for about $100-$120 .

One thing I'd be curious to see is how well various speakers perform when really damn cold. The 6.5in skar subwoofers I have hidden in my car's back hatch really suck when it's -25C outside, but the stodk door speakers are unaffected

Recently a bunch of recoil products on their website doubled in price. Amazon inventory of subs/speakers/amps is minimal but still at budget pricing. If this "new pricing" makes it's way to Amazon, I anticipate a monumental drop in sales for recoil. 😢

i've been favoring the mb quart fsb216's. you can get some for sub $50 most of the time, and they're decent enough quality, with a 70w rms/speaker rating that seems to hold up under running.
the coaxial variants are rated to 60w rms/speaker.
    downsides;
its an alu dome tweeter, so its a touch brighter, and needs to be accounted for, but thats easy enough to mitigate.
the crossover pack is on the cheaper side, a sealed unit with lead wires coming out of it.
its bigger siblings (rs1-216) have the screw terminal style. and tend to average around $100ish, with a 55w rns/speaker, a titanium dome tweeter.
they're not the absolute best in the world, but they're decent enough quality, they sound pretty good, and they matched close enough to the rating of the front/rear channels of the 5 channel pioneer i was hooking them to, so it was gravy.

MB Quart tweeters suck now with the aluminum tweeter. Back about a decade ago they have reverse dome tweeters " M Dome design " in their ONYX line like FOCAL Audio uses and were absolutely awesome. Maxxsonic bought out MB Quart years ago and now they suck. MB Quart was made in Germany back in the day...

That’s a good and reasonable price since other companies market other sets at a higher price for profit. It doesn’t costs that much to make. They use to have a show on tv the costs of making speakers and set and you wouldn’t believe the actual cost and the retail

I feel like the xmax linearity is too low. Bass could be a lot cleaner but maybe my years of collecting spilled me. But I expect the mids to break up from it when bass notes play. I'm thinking the Pyle gear 6.5 component would give this a run for the money but the mylar tweeters popped on my set in short order. One thing on the crossover on that recoil set, it sounded like it could use the high pass caps replaced with smaller values because those tweeters were a little sharp on 8k, that would help clean up the sound a bit.
