My wife and I are long time musicians. We were at the 2015 CMA awards when nobody knew who Chris Stapleton was outside of Nashville. He sang one line and we looked at each other and said wow, who is this guy? Him, his wife Morgane and Justin Timberlake (and the band) proceeded to light that place up! It was an unforgettable performance and put him on the national map and he hasn't let up since. So glad we got to see him receive the spotlight he deserves!
Chris didn't think he sang all that well, he regarded himself as a songwriter and a guitar player, but his wife, Morgane singing with him there on stage encouraged him to sing and he also suffered from stage fright and her singing with him on stage actually helps him with that. Morgane has a beautiful voice of her own. You can see the love in their eyes when they sing on stage together and make eye contact and their 5 kids are proof, it's a strong love!
Chris always sounds better live! If you're going to go down this rabbit hole, look for live performances. His awards show performances are always 🔥. I could give you a huge list but here are three to start with ... 1) "Cold", live at the 2021 CMAs; 2 & 3) "Tennessee Whiskey" and "I Was Wrong" live at Austin City Limits. Just a jumping off place! The only one I recommend the video for is "Fire Away," which is his only 'produced' video. It shines a light on mental health and you'll need tissues to watch it. Chris is amazing! And, as others have mentioned, the female singer is his wife, Morgane. She is a knockout singer in her own right!

Have you heard him sing James Brown's Man's World? It's live and not even his band. You really should hear it. I think Mr. James Brown would have approved. Also Death Row. It's short but fire! Also live is Tennessee Whiskey at Austin City Limits.

You just realized a major thing with country and rock/metal music: There are studio bands, they sound great in the studio, but sound like crap live, then there are people/bands like Chris. 'd" when Chris say either way.. lol The other is his (2018) LIVE AT FARM AID PERFORMANCE of Tennessee Whiskey ( There many performance @farm aid but (2018) DOPE Absolutely showcases his raw talent! The coolest thing about Country singers is that they sound the same live. They do not depend on studio BS. You can sing or you don't have a career. Pop, Rap, Hip Hop stuff is about effects, flash & costumes & skin. Not much depth to the lyrics & not a lot of actual good voices. I love that his wife Morgane is his back up singer & inspiration for his music.
