Hi Miss Linda. I'm 24 and my "Freddie" is an artist named xxxtentacion. When my grandmom saw me crying over the news of his death, she cried with me even though I don't think she likes xxxtentacion very much. She told me she had Freddie. She passed away a few months after xxxtentacion. I listen to queen and it's me in her embrace all over again.
Empty without Freddie, Xxxtentacion, and my grandma.

The main difference between live and recording.. with Queen.. is that on the recordings they multi-track A LOT.. and Freddie does a lot of the multiple voices.. vs live - we get to hear Roger’s incredible voice even more.. and them, as a band, being so in-sync with each other!! They’re amazing. NO BODY better live..

Freddie rightfully gets most of the praise when people talk about queen. And Brian May is pretty widely known as one of the best guitarists ever. But Roger Taylor and Brian May don't get nearly the recognition they deserve for their overall contributions. Between the two of them they wrote the vast majority of Queen's songs as well as many others they wrote for other bands. And they both make huge contributions with vocals on a lot of them.

This is by far - hands down - the best live band of all time. There were a lot of great bands from this era, but nobody else could deliver this kind of live performance and nobody else had Freddie. The band is great - period. Please listen to The March of the Black Queen from the Queen II album 1974. This is, in my opinion the best song they ever did, although they only ever played a small section of the song live, as part of a medley. You'll see the talent level at it's finest in this song.

I love how you stop when Freddie hits those first notes. Yes, that's when you realize that his voice is not the result of autotune or studio tinkering, it really was that good. It's said of his voice that he could reach the furthest seats in Wembley stadium because his voice was so powerful. As for the rest of the band and how it worked, well it was just magic. They really came together as one thing to make music even when live. It's like these very different personalities gelled for this magical time period to produce something wonderful and we were around to hear it.

I admire studio recordings (tinker, create your best at the moment - your historical record launching that song). But once you start playing it live, it takes on new life. Queen thrived playing live. It wasn't 4 guys up there lost in their own world of music...it was 4 bandmates working to deliver and entertain....they wanted their music to make people happy. Simply a kind of magic. (Yes, there's a song & album named that too.)

    Great reaction!
Answering your question: On stages, Freddie always drank a lot of water, and a mix of lemon and honey for his voice. When backstage, he would take strepsis pills and would do some inalations as well. He had tons of problems with his throat, so, he had to take absolute care of it.
Even if Freddie used a lot of drugs and alchool, ironically, he was very careful, profissional, and never used anything before or during the shows. After an unforgetable first and only time, when he basically forgot his own name, what to say about the lyrics, they NEVER let him drink anything alchoolical on stages, ever again. Let's just say, he learned his lesson. After the shows, however, he was a free man.
Brian and Roger would sip on beer once or twice, but they never were drunk on the shows. And they both stopped drinking (and smoking, in Roger's case) just a few years after this.
John, however, was another completelly different matter: He's absolutelly too shy to enter a stage as anything but totally smashed, so, he had his own bar behind his amp. But unlike Freddie, it never stopped him from being the best in anything he did. He never had any problem playing his bass or dancing like there was no tomorrow, and never lost a beat, even when he couldn't even walk in a straight line.
For your next reactions, I strongly suggest Queen in Live Aid, 1985. If you liked them on live, you'll LOVE that. It was a 20 mins beneficent show. It had a mixed crowd, no one there had a fanbase, so, great artists were booed if not giving a good enough show, and everyone who was someone was there (Paul McCartney, David Bowie, The Who, Status Quo, just for you to imagine...). Queen basically leveled everyone (they even were attacked backstage because of it).
Then, the next reaction I'll reccomend for you is "I Want To Break Free". You will... laugh... A LOT. The song was writen by John Deacon (yeah, the super shy bassist... Everyone thought it was Freddie's creation, but nope) and the video is simply hilarious.

I'd rather hear Queen live than listen to the studio version. The only thing they couldn't do live was the operatic part of Bohemian Rhapsody. If you look at Paul McCartney and Wings you can see that their live shows were how do we make it sound as much like the album as possible. They did a very good job of that. Queen's strategy was how can we make it better than the studio version. They do an amazing job of that.

He’s sipping on honey and water for his vocal cords . One of Queens trademarks was the cups on the piano. What you will notice when Freddie takes a sip it is always the cup you cannot see through. Honey and water ❤️‍🩹

Great reaction! I've seen this many times but I still get goosebumps watching someone else enjoy it for the first time.
As for the cups, I heard in a documentary that it wasn't beer, it was tea with honey in it for his voice.

With show time approaching, towels and drinks for the band’s refreshment on stage would now be strategically placed: water and beer for Fred, beer for Brian and Roger and the Backstage Bar for John, comprising water, beer, soft drinks, wine and whatever spirit or cocktail he fancied at the time: Southern Comfort, vodka or tequila.
    - Peter Hince (aka Ratty), Fred’s and John’s roadie and head of Queen’s crew.

We all tend to fall in love with a version of a song that we hear first. I love the studio version the best. However this is such a great performance that I see why people like this over the studio version :)

Thanks for your reaction! Queen is fun because their 'studio' recordings/official videos" are perfect YET are different from their live concerts. Queen is a dish you can serve any way you want to. If you hear them perform a studio song that you like, I almost guarantee that you will find you LOVE the live concert version more. No two are the same. All of them are amazing. Have fun! Lots of great rock bands out there to explore.

Freddie always kept tea with honey on the piano during long concerts to keep his throat from drying out. He liked beer but said he would never drink it during a performance and risk burping into the mic, it would be disrespectful to the audience.

From what I've heard, Freddy always had water, tea and beer at hand when performing. Useful depending on what the throat needs at the moment.
Also, Even though there were four giants up there, I have to give some love to the fifth most important person on stage for that song; the stagehand that gave Freddy his mic when he needed it and took it back when he was done. Perfectly timed!

The drink he had was a honey and lemon concoction. Freddie protected his vouce at all costs. This is the blueprint for todays so called musicians. You have a lot to learn. Miss you Freddie and Queen. 🧡🧡🧡

I love Freddie, but he did not protect his voice at all costs. He smoked all his life and did cocaine on occasion. Both of these are bad for the throat. The night before they were on SNL, he got into a loud argument with his boyfriend and had to perform on live TV with laryngitis. Sorry, but your message sounded a little condescending to me.
